K-MEANS CLUSTERING ALGORITHM BASED CLASSIFICATION OF SOIL FERTILITY IN NORTH WEST NIGERIA

Soil fertility determines a plant's development process that guarantees food sufficiency and the security of lives and properties through bumper harvests. The fertility of soil varies according to regions, thereby determining the type of crops to be planted. However, there is no repository or any source of information about the fertility of the soil in any region in Nigeria especially the Northwest of the country. The only available information is soil samples with their attributes which gives little or no information to the average farmer. This has affected crop yield in all the regions, more particularly the Northwest region, thus resulting in lower food production.  Therefore, this study is aimed at classifying soil data based on their fertility in the Northwest region of Nigeria using R programming. Data were obtained from the department of soil science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The data contain 400 soil samples containing 13 attributes. The relationship between soil attributes was observed based on the data. K-means clustering algorithm was employed in analyzing soil fertility clusters. Four clusters were identified with cluster 1 having the highest fertility, followed by 2 and the fertility decreases with an increasing number of clusters. The identification of the most fertile clusters will guide farmers on where best to concentrate on when planting their crops in order to improve productivity and crop yield.

The Valencia orange orchards established on soils of low fertility in the Northwest region of Paraná State, Brazil, have showed symptoms of Mg deficiency and reduced fruit yields. The objective of this study was to verify the relationship between yield with soil and leaf nutrients during 1996/97 growing season. Two sites of low and high productivity were selected in seven orchards. Leaf and soil samples (fertilized rows and interrows) were collected in 1996. The results showed that the citrus yields were negatively related with soil Mg/K and Ca+Mg/K ratios in the fertilized rows, and fruit weight positively correlated with leaf Zn in the low productivity orchards. The fruit weight was positively related with leaf Ca and soil Ca in the fertilized rows of the high productivity orchards. The results suggested an adequate lime and K fertilization managements in the fertilized rows, as well as an adequate Zn supply.

It is very difficult to generalize the relationship between MFL signal and the defect geometric parameters of the pipeline because the relationship is nonlinear. Many applications of wavelet neural network on this field show that the defect geometric parameters can be obtained with this method to some extent. However, the initial centers have great influence on performance of the network. Hierarchical clustering algorithm is proposed in this paper and applied to classification of defect samples, centers selection and calculation of basis function width. With this algorithm, clusters similarity is computed to create tree structure and the perfect clustering is obtained. The sample set created from finite element defect simulation are used to train and validate the efficiency and reliability of the network based on hierarchical clustering algorithm. The experiment shows that the training speed and the prediction precision of the network can be improved simulataneously.

Lunar volcanic domes are essential windows into the local magmatic activities on the Moon. Classification of domes is a useful way to figure out the relationship between dome appearances and formation processes. Previous studies of dome classification were manually or semi-automatically carried out either qualitatively or quantitively. We applied an unsupervised machine-learning method to domes that are annularly or radially distributed around Gardner, a unique central-vent volcano located in the northern part of the Mare Tranquillitatis. High-resolution lunar imaging and spectral data were used to extract morphometric and spectral properties of domes in both the Gardner volcano and its surrounding region in the Mare Tranquillitatis. An integrated robust Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm was performed on 120 combinations of five morphometric (diameter, area, height, surface volume, and slope) and two elemental features (FeO and TiO2 contents) to find the optimum combination. Rheological features of domes and their dike formation parameters were calculated for dome-forming lava explanations. Results show that diameter, area, surface volume, and slope are the selected optimum features for dome clustering. 54 studied domes can be grouped into four dome clusters (DC1 to DC4). DC1 domes are relatively small, steep, and close to the Gardner volcano, with forming lavas of high viscosities and low effusion rates, representing the latest Eratosthenian dome formation stage of the Gardner volcano. Domes of DC2 to DC4 are relatively large, smooth, and widely distributed, with forming lavas of low viscosities and high effusion rates, representing magmatic activities varying from Imbrian to Eratosthenian in the northern Mare Tranquillitatis. The integrated algorithm provides a new and independent way to figure out the representative properties of lunar domes and helps us further clarify the relationship between dome clusters and local magma activities of the Moon.

It is suggested that cations present in extracts of water-saturated soil samples can be used to complement and substantiate the field classification of soils into the Solonetzic and Chernozemic Orders by the Canadian system, and that an evaluation of these cations together with pH can be used as substantiating criteria at the sub-group level.Two hundred and ninety-one profiles, sampled by the Saskatchewan Soil Survey during the 1959–61 seasons, have been separated into high, medium and low sodium profiles and on this basis correlated with the field classification. Most of the high sodium soils were in the Solonetzic Order, and the medium and low sodium in the Chernozemic Order.The proposed laboratory criteria gave over 80 per cent agreement with the field classification at the order level. This percentage was obtained from a range of 97 per cent for the Orthic Chernozem to 63 per cent for the Solonetz profile. The agreement at the lower level varied from 95 per cent for the Rego Chernozem to 38 for the Solonetz.

The effects of potassium fertilization on potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) grown on 40 experimental sites were related to tuber yields and soil test values. The data used in this work were gathered by seven research groups over a 25-yr period. Concentrations of exchangeable potassium (1 N NH4OAc, pH 7.0) in soils ranged from 28 to 462 kg K/ha. About 68% of the soils were classed as having a poor supply of available potassium, according to the criteria used until now in Quebec, because they contained less than 200 kg K/ha. A Mitscherlich exponential equation was fitted to the relationship between the percent of maximum yield and the concentration of available K in soils (R2 = 35.9%). The Cate-Nelson procedure was also used for ranking soils in three potassium fertility classes as indicated by their relative yields without K fertilization. The following classification of soil K levels was obtained: poor, soils containing less than 140 kg K/ha; intermediate, those containing between 141 and 300 kg K/ha; and sufficient, those containing more than 300 kg K/ha. The percent of maximum yield ranges obtained without K fertilization by these different soil fertility classes were: poor, from 34 to 98% with an average of 74%; intermediate, from 88 to 100% with an average of 95: and sufficient, from 93 to 100% with an average of 98%. The fertilization rates required to obtain or maintain maximum yields by these respective classes were 175, 130 and 80 kg K/ha. Potassium fertilization increased yields significantly on the soils that had a poor K supply only. Nonetheless, the average tuber yield indicated that a 5% increase in yield might be obtained with K fertilization on the intermediate soils and this increase would easily be profitable. Potassium fertilization of the soils classed sufficient would, however, only maintain soil fertility by supplying part of the K requirement of this crop.

In determining the tribal identity of the drum, the classification of drum is the key stage, the relationship between the objective of the classification and classification criteria is the relation as shape and shadow, if there is no right criteria then the result of division will be difficult to reach the desired goal. Likewise, the criterion of the pattern on the bronze drum brought to the affirmation is the Dong Son bronze drum of the Lac Viet people. And the parallel is the affirmation of the culture, way of life, residence of the nation created the drum.

<p><em>This article explores the concept of a religious state proposed by two Muslim leaders: Hasyim Asyari (1871-1947), an Indonesian Muslim leader and Muhammad Iqbal (1873-1938), an Indian Muslim leader. Both of them represented the early generation when the emerging revolution for the independence of Indonesia (1945) from the Dutch colonialism and India-Pakistan (1947) from the British Imperialism. In doing so, they argued that the religious state is compatible with the plural nation that has diverse cultures, faiths, and ethnicities. They also argued that Islam as religion should involve the establishment of a nation-state. But under certain circumstances, they changed their thinking. Hasyim changed his thought that Islam in Indonesia should not be dominated by a single religion and state ideology. Hasyim regarded religiosity in Indonesia as vital in nation-building within a multi-religious society. While Iqbal changed from Indian loyalist to Islamist loyalist after he studied and lived in the West. The desire of Iqbal to establish the own state for the Indian Muslims separated from Hindus was first promulgated in 1930 when he was a President of the Muslim League. Iqbal expressed the hope of seeing Punjab, the North West province, Sind and Balukhistan being one in a single state, having self-government outside the British empire. In particular, the two Muslim leaders used religious legitimacy to establish political identity. By using historical approach (intellectual history), the relationship between religion, state, and nationalism based on the thinking of the two Muslim leaders can be concluded that Hasyim Asyari more prioritizes Islam as the ethical value to build state ideology and nationalism otherwise Muhammad Iqbal tends to make Islam as the main principle in establishment of state ideology and nationalism.</em></p><em>Keywords: Hasyim Asyari, Muhammad Iqbal, religion, state, nationalism.</em>

Ekspor merupakan salah satu faktor terjadinya peningkatan pertumbuhan ekonomi suatu negara, sejalan dengan hipotesis export-led growth (ELG). Penelitian ini menganalisis perkembangan ekspor dan pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia periode kuartal I 2001 sampai dengan kuartal IV 2015. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif dalam menggambarkan perkembangan pertumbuhan ekonomi serta ekspor dan analisis kuantitatif metode Error Correction Model (ECM) dalam menganalisis efek jangka panjang dan jangka pendek dari ekspor terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi. Pada periode penelitian, data yang ada menunjukkan bahwa ekspor dan pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia sama-sama mengalami peningkatan. Hasil regresi ECM menunjukkan bahwa ekspor memiliki pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan secara statistik terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia, yang mendukung hipotesis bahwa ELG berlaku untuk Indonesia. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, maka untuk mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia diperlukan peningkatan kinerja ekspor Indonesia. Peningkatan kinerja ekspor Indonesia dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara, salah satunya adalah dengan perbaikan sistem administrasi ekspor, peningkatan riset dan pengembangan produk Indonesia, peningkatan sarana dan prasarana infrastruktur, stabilitas nilai tukar dan perluasan pasar non tradisional, termasuk perbaikan struktur ekspor komoditas. Export is one of the factors behind the economic growth which is in line with the export-led growth hypotesis (ELG). This research analyzes the relationship between economic growth and export of Indonesia during first quarter of 2001 until fourth quarter of 2015. It employs descriptive analysis to describe export movement and economic growth during the study period and ECM model to analyze the long run and the short run effects of export on the economic growth. The available information indicated that, during the study period, both export and economic growth showed similar increasing trends. The result of the ECM model revealed that export had a positive and statistically significant relationship with the economic growth, supporting the hypotesis of ELG in Indonesia. Hence, to accelerate economic growth, efforts are required to boost the export performance in Indonesia. The Export performance can be increased by several way, such as improving the export administration system, increasing the research and development of Indonesian products, improving the facilities and infrastructure, exchange rate stability and the non-tradisional markets expansion, and including improvement of the export commodity structure.

Responses of GH-secreting adenomas to multimodal management of acromegaly vary widely between patients. Understanding the behavioral patterns of GH-secreting adenomas by identifying factors predictive of their evolution is a research priority. The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between the T2-weighted adenoma signal on diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in acromegaly and clinical and biological features at diagnosis. An international, multicenter, retrospective analysis was performed using a large population of 297 acromegalic patients recently diagnosed with available diagnostic MRI evaluations. The study was conducted at ten endocrine tertiary referral centers. Clinical and biochemical characteristics, and MRI signal findings were evaluated. T2-hypointense adenomas represented 52.9% of the series, were smaller than their T2-hyperintense and isointense counterparts (P<0.0001), were associated with higher IGF1 levels (P=0.0001), invaded the cavernous sinus less frequently (P=0.0002), and rarely caused optic chiasm compression (P<0.0001). Acromegalic men tended to be younger at diagnosis than women (P=0.067) and presented higher IGF1 values (P=0.01). Although in total, adenomas had a predominantly inferior extension in 45.8% of cases, in men this was more frequent (P<0.0001), whereas in women optic chiasm compression of macroadenomas occurred more often (P=0.0067). Most adenomas (45.1%) measured between 11 and 20 mm in maximal diameter and bigger adenomas were diagnosed at younger ages (P=0.0001). The T2-weighted signal differentiates GH-secreting adenomas into subgroups with particular behaviors. This raises the question of whether the T2-weighted signal could represent a factor in the classification of acromegalic patients in future studies.

Background:The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria, the first international criteria for diagnosis of malnutrition, was released in 2018 [1]. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are thought to be prone to malnutrition due to decreased food intake and increased muscle catabolism caused by chronic inflammation or pain. However, there has been no report to assess the nutritional status of RA patients in accordance with the GLIM criteria. In addition, commonly used blood nutrient indicators such as albumin might not be appropriate as nutritional indicators for RA because these values are affected by inflammation.Objectives:This study aims to examine the rates of malnutrition in RA patients according to GLIM criteria, and the relationship between blood nutrient indicators and the severity of malnutrition.Methods:In this study, we conducted a cross-sectional survey of 135 female RA patients in 2020. According to the GLIM criteria, patients were considered to be malnourished if patients had one of the following phenotypic: (1) low body mass index, (2) non-volitional weight loss, (3) reduced muscle mass, and one of the following etiologic: (1) reduced food intake or assimilation, (2) disease burden/inflammatory condition. Reduced muscle mass was evaluated by measuring calf circumference, and inflammatory condition was evaluated by Disease Activity Score (DAS) 28. In accordance with the GLIM criteria, the severity of malnutrition was judged as three levels: no problem, moderate, and severe malnutrition. Albumin, transthyretin, transferrin, retinol binding protein, zinc, iron, ceruloplasmin, and total cholesterol were assessed as blood nutrition indicators. Also grip strength was assessed. We compared each nutritional indicator among the three groups according to the severity of malnutrition using age-adjusted analysis of covariance, and examined the relationship between each nutritional indicator and the severity of malnutrition using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis.Results:In RA patients, 20% were classified as severe malnutrition, and 40% were moderate or more. Serum iron levels were significantly lower in the severe malnutrition group compared to the no problem group (p = 0.001). In ROC analysis, serum iron, zinc, albumin, and grip strength (area under curve; AUC; 0.680, 0.696, 0.636, 0.790, respectively) were significant parameters for classification of moderate and severe malnutrition. Serum iron and grip strength (AUC for respective parameters were 0.741, 0.747) were significant parameters for classification of severe malnutrition.Conclusion:Evaluation based on the GLIM criteria showed that about 40% of RA patients were under moderate or severe malnutrition.
