The main problem of this study is the lack of ability to think kriis Elementary School fifth grade students in the learning of Social Sciences. This study uses a quantitative approach with quasi-experimental methods. The study population was the fifth-grade elementary school students in District Ciparay Bandung regency. The sample consisted of 51 students divided into 25 students in the class IV-A as an experimental group and 26 students in the class IV-B as the control group. Instruments used comprises a written test regarding social issues. Quantitative analysis is performed against the average pretest and post test critical thinking skills by using the t-test and Mann Whitney test. The results showed that the differences are critical thinking skills in students using problem-based learning model at initial measurement (pre-test) and the final measurement (post-test). encourage the student can solve his problems with critical thinking, there are no differences in the ability of critical thinking in students who use conventional learning model at initial measurement (pre-test) and the final measurement (post-test), there is an increased critical thinking skill in students whose learning using model-based the problem is higher than students whose learning using conventional learning.

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of project-based learning in improving students' critical thinking skills. The research design used was the matching only pretest and posttest control group. The population in this study were all students of class XI MIPA, one of the high schools in Bandarlampung. The research sample was students of class XI MIPA 6 and XI MIPA 4. The data analysis technique used is the non parametric statistical test using U Man Whitney. The results of the study showed that the average posttest of critical thinking skills in the experimental class was greater than in the control class. the average n-gain in the experimental class is medium and low in the control class, indicating that project-based learning is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. Keywords: critical thinking skills, waste cooking oil, project-based learning

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of an approach to improve elementary school students’ critical thinking skills. The approach is called MIKIR that stands for mengalami (experiencing), interaksi (interaction), komunikasi (Communication), internalisasi (internalization), and refleksi (reflection). This research was conducted at a public elementary school in Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Indonesia. The subject of this research was 23 fourth grade students. The method used in this research was quasi-experimental method. The experimental design used in this study was pre-test and post-test one group design. The results of the study obtained an average pretest score of 22.13 and an average posttest score of 27.70 from a maximum score of 36. Based on these results, the score increased by 5.57 points or 20.10%. The overall average N-gain value of 0.41 with moderate criteria, so that the MIKIR approach can improve fourth grade students’ critical thinking skills. This result was supported by the results of student learning activities and student responses to learning with the MIKIR approach obtaining an average of 84.6% with a very good category.

The study aims at developing a scientific-based pictorial storybook with PjBL method for improving the critical thinking skills of the elementary school students. The research and development initiative refer to the design of Borg & Gall with 10 stages of test. Then, during the conduct of the study the data were gathered by means of product assessment sheet, teacher response questionnaire, student response questionnaire and critical thinking skills test. For the data analysis, the data were analysed by means of paired t-test with significance rate 5%. The results of the study show that the scientific-based pictorial storybook with PjBL method has been feasible for improving the critical thinking skills of the elementary school students. Based on the paired t-test results with the significance rate 5% (sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < α = 0.05), after the implementation the critical thinking skills of the students increase significantly.

The purpose of this study is to find out the critical thinking skills indicators and aspects of prospective elementary school teachers in mathematics-science integration lectures on electrical circuits and mathematical logic lesson. This research uses random sampling technique in which 30 first semester students were chosen randomly from one of university in Padang region West Sumatera Indonesia. This research uses Research and Development (R & D). The critical thinking skills are seen from processes, observations, and tests. The process of critical thinking skills of prospective elementary school teachers on the average of critical thinking skills indicator is 84% in strategies and tactics, 80% in advanced clarification and 83% in elementary clarification, basic support, and inference. The result of observing the critical thinking skills of prospective elementary school teachers on the average of each lectures is significantly increased to be 81.9%. The results of pre-test and post-test were increased significantly. It is shown from N-gain of 0.7 to be medium category.

This study aims to determine the application of PjBL model based on simple props and critical thinking skills of students in the School Laboratory course. This research uses research type Pre-Experimental Design with sample of all students of semester II which programmed Laboratory School on even semester 2016/2017 in Program Studi Pendidikan Fisika Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Papua. The results showed that the props designed by students 74.0% ± SD 4.2 or are in a good category. Assessment of practical worksheet covers the aspect of format, content, language/writing, and benefits/functions obtained 80.3% ± SD 7.4 or are in the very good category. Critical thinking skills of the students during the learning that is 66.7% ± SD 4.9 or are in a good category. Therefore the application of PjBL learning based on simple props can be used to develop critical thinking skills.

The development of experiential learning methodologies is gaining attention, due to its contributions to enhancing education quality. It focuses on developing competencies, and build-up added values, such as creative and critical thinking skills, with the aim of improving the quality of learning. The interdisciplinary mechatronics field accommodates a coherent interactive concurrent design process that facilitates innovation and develops the desired skills by adopting experiential learning approaches. This educational learning process is motivated by implementation, assessment, and reflections. This requires synergizing cognition, perception, and behavior with experience sharing and evaluation. Furthermore, it is supported by knowledge accumulation. The learning process with active student’s engagement (participation and investigation) is integrated with experimental systems that are developed to facilitate experiential learning supported by properly designed lectures, laboratory experiments, and integrated with course projects. This paper aims to enhance education, learning quality, and contribute to the learning process, while stimulating creative and critical thinking skills. The paper has adopted a student-centered learning approach and focuses on developing training tools to improve the hands-on experience and integrate it with project-based learning. The developed experimental systems have their learning indicators where students acquire knowledge and learn the target skills through involvement in the process. This is inspired by collaborative knowledge sharing, brainstorming, and interactive discussions. The learning outcomes from lectures and laboratory experiments are synergized with the project-based learning approach to yield the desired promising results and exhibit the value of learning. The effectiveness of the developed experimental systems along with the adopted project-based learning approach is demonstrated and evaluated during laboratory sessions supporting different courses at Sanyo-Onoda City University, Yamaguchi, Japan, and at the American University in Cairo.
