Bengkulu city Pantai panjang Nature park area (TWA) includes the National Tourism Development Zone (KPPN). The existence of Pantai panjang TWA in the middle of Bengkulu City is a special attraction for tourists.  This study aims to achieve the main function of the Pantai panjang TWA area that is as a public space that should provide convenience for every tourist who is visiting. This research is focused on physical elements such as road signs and information. It was realized that the Pantai Panjang TWA area did not yet provide much convenience for tourists to get appropriate directions and information. Signage and information in the Pantai Panjang TWA area are expected to be a participatory communication medium based on the location of the arrangement and the suitability of the information The research method used is descriptive qualitative, quantitative and spatial (photo mapping) methods (Creswell, 2008), and in the form of literature studies, field observations, and interviews. The proper arrangement related to the placement of the points of the location of the road signs and information (signage system), it is expected that the information provided will be conveyed to tourists visiting the Pantai Panjang TWA area.

Oblique photogrammetry-based three-dimensional (3D) urban models are widely used for smart cities. In 3D urban models, road signs are small but provide valuable information for navigation. However, due to the problems of sliced shape features, blurred texture and high incline angles, road signs cannot be fully reconstructed in oblique photogrammetry, even with state-of-the-art algorithms. The poor reconstruction of road signs commonly leads to less informative guidance and unsatisfactory visual appearance. In this paper, we present a pipeline for embedding road sign models based on deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs). First, we present an end-to-end balanced-learning framework for small object detection that takes advantage of the region-based CNN and a data synthesis strategy. Second, under the geometric constraints placed by the bounding boxes, we use the scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) to extract the corresponding points on the road signs. Third, we obtain the coarse location of a single road sign by triangulating the corresponding points and refine the location via outlier removal. Least-squares fitting is then applied to the refined point cloud to fit a plane for orientation prediction. Finally, we replace the road signs with computer-aided design models in the 3D urban scene with the predicted location and orientation. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a high mAP in road sign detection and produces visually plausible embedded results, which demonstrates its effectiveness for road sign modeling in oblique photogrammetry-based 3D scene reconstruction.

Abstract Traffic accidents on highways are attributed mostly to the "invisibility" of oncoming traffic and road signs. "Speeding" also causes drivers to reduce the effective radius of the vehicle path in the curve, thus trespassing into the lane of the oncoming traffic. The main aim of this paper was to develop a multisensory obstacle-detection device that is affordable, easy to implement and easy to maintain to reduce the risk of road accidents at blind corners. An ultrasonic sensor module with a maximum measuring angle of 15° was used to ensure that a significant portion of the lane was detected at the blind corner. The sensor covered a minimum effective area of 0.5 m2 of the road for obstacle detection. Yellow light was employed to signify caution while negotiating the blind corner. Two photoresistors (PRs) were used as sensors because of the limited number of pins on the microcontroller (Arduino Uno). However, the device developed for this project achieved obstacle detection at blind corners at relatively low cost and can be accessed by all road users. In real-world applications, the use of piezoelectric accelerometers (vibration sensors) instead of PR sensors would be more desirable in order to detect not only cars but also two-wheelers.

With the growth with the citys population of elderly people, the symptoms of aging are becoming more and more significant. Older people are faced with complex circumstances when they are outdoors, a correct and efficient system of road signs should help them reach their destinations safely. Therefore, a well designed system for the elderly is vital. The following research is concentrated on the design of the road sign system focusing upon the aspects of placement positions, height of the text and symbols, and the amount of information included on the sign. This will assist in the design of the most useful and efficient sign board system for the elderly. This will be determined through the experimental method.

Image segmentation is the most important process in road sign detection and classification systems. In road sign systems, the spatial information of road signs are very important for safety issues. Road sign segmentation is a complex segmentation task because of the different road sign colors and shapes that make it difficult to use specific threshold. Most road sign segmentation studies do good in ideal situations, but many problems need to be solved when the road signs are in poor lighting and noisy conditions. This paper proposes a hybrid dynamic threshold color segmentation technique for road sign images. In a pre-processing step, the authors use the histogram analysis, noise reduction with a Gaussian filter, adaptive histogram equalization, and conversion from RGB space to YCbCr or HSV color spaces. Next, a segmentation threshold is selected dynamically and used to segment the pre-processed image. The method was tested on outdoor images under noisy conditions and was able to accurately segment road signs with different colors (red, blue, and yellow) and shapes.

Accident statistics and studies of driving behavior have shown repeatedly that curved roads are hazardous. It was hypothesized that the safety of curves could be improved by indicating in advance the course of the road in a more effective way than do traditional road signs. A code of sequences of stripes put on right edge of the pavement was developed to indicate to the driver the radius of the curve ahead. The main characteristic of this code was the frequency of transitions from code elements to gaps between elements. The effect of these markings was investigated on a driving simulator. Twelve subjects drove on simulated roads of different curvature and with different placement of the code in the approach zone. Some positive effects of the advance information could be observed. The subjects drove more steadily, more precisely, and with a more suitable speed profile.

RESUMENLas infraestructuras de transporte presentes sobre el territorio condicionan las relaciones sociales y de comunicación de muchos espacios. Grandes estaciones, puertos o aeropuertos se presentan como ejes de centralidad sobre los que se distribuyen flujos de mercancías y personas, configurando a su vez el diseño y la funcionalidad de las ciudades. Hoy en día, con el avance producido en sectores como el ferrocarril de alta velocidad, las estaciones han transformado su función principal de nudo de intercambio, proyectándose como nuevos espacios comerciales y de negocio. En este artículo se analiza este nuevo fenómeno de transformación espacial y social vinculado a la alta velocidad ferroviaria, focalizando su ámbito en España. Se desgrana a su vez el papel de las comunidades sociales, políticas y empresariales para la ciudad y el espacio público presentes en las nuevas estaciones de ferroviarias. Palabras clave: ferrocarril; espacio público; urbanismo. ABSTRACTThis work aims to discuss the transport infrastructures presents on the territory and the conditions to the social and communication relations of many spaces. Large stations, ports or airports are presented as axes of centrality on which flows of goods and people are distributed, configuring in turn the design and functionality of cities. Nowadays, with the advance produced in sectors such as high-speed rail, the stations have transformed their main function as an exchange hub, projecting themselves as new commercial and business spaces. This article analyzes this new phenomenon of spatial and social transformation linked to high-speed rail, focusing its scope in Spain. At the same time, the role of the social, political and business communities for the city and the public space present in the new railway stations.Keywords: railroad; public space; urbanism.

We examined incidental learning of road signs under divided attention in a simulated naturalistic environment. We tested whether word-based versus symbol-based road signs were differentially maintained in working memory by dividing attention during encoding and measuring the effect on long-term memory. Participants in a lab watched a video from the point of view of a car driving the streets of a small town. Participants were instructed to indicate whether passing road signs in the video were on the left or right side of the street while either singing the Star-Spangled Banner (phonological divided attention) or describing familiar locations (visuospatial divided attention). For purposes of analysis, road signs were categorized as word signs if they contained words (e.g., a STOP sign) or as symbol signs if they contained illustrations or symbols (e.g., a pedestrian crosswalk sign). A surprise free recall test of the road signs indicated greater recall for word signs than symbol signs, and greater recall of signs for the phonological divided attention group than the visuospatial divided attention group. Critically, the proportion of correct recall of symbol signs was significantly lower for the visuospatial divided attention group than the phonological divided attention group, p = .02, d = 0.63, but recall for word signs was not significantly different between phonological and visuospatial groups, p = .09, d = 0.44. Results supported the hypothesis that visuospatial information—but not phonological information—is stored in working memory in a simulated naturalistic environment that involved incidental learning.

Potential benefits of public transportation as a spatial element are going to be examined. This can relate to permanent infrastructure such as rail tracks, physically separated bus lanes, subway stations etc. These are visually noticeable or otherwise significant built spatial elements and are relatively permanent, which might increase the popularity and use of a public transit service in an area by reassuring potential users of the authorities’ strategic commitment to providing high quality transit as well as by becoming part of an areas’ identity. Other physical elements and their design – signage, vehicle appearance, public space redevelopment along corridors etc. – are important in this regard as well, and could either enhance the benefits of permanent infrastructure, or they could be used alone to attempt to achieve the same positive effects. The degree to which these elements can be successful depends also on how they are distributed through space, which in this paper is linked to network or line structure. The network should be clear and easy to understand, enabling users to orient themselves, while also making it easier to apply physical elements which represent the system in space. Thus, the degree to which a public transportation service is represented in space through described elements and their spatial distribution, determines its strength as a spatial marker.

Jakarta was developed started from the coastline and gradually moved to the centre of the city which left the coastal area remain untouch. The development of Jakarta which only oriented on capitalism cause in a lack of public space for the community, which make public coping with the issues independently. The roads in the housing area and villages was used by local residents as a space to socialize with neighbors or a place to do activities. There are still lots of kampung remained in Muara Baru which located in North Jakarta, but not facilitated by public space and open space to accommodate the citizen’s need to socialize and do their activity, so they carried out those activities in the middle of the road or alley which can disturb the traffic and endangered other people’s lives.  This phenomenon indicates that the community's need for public space is very high and needs to be anticipated immediately in order to avoid environmental and social degradation. The purpose of this project is to become a linkage that connect people with the surrounding environment, as well as humans with other humans, while this project also help the economy and home industry businesses, which bring in money to help the economy of local citizens, and cause positive interactions, such as knowledge exchange and development in economic aspects. AbstrakPembangunan kota Jakarta awalnya dimulai dari area pinggir laut yang kemudian semakin berkembang ke pusat kota, seiring berlangsungnya pembangunan di pusat kota, daerah pinggir/pesisir mulai ditinggalkan dan tidak tersentuh. Pengembangan kota Jakarta yang hanya berorientasi pada kepentingan kapitalis juga mengakibatkan kurangnya ruang publik bagi masyarakat, sehingga  mengakibatkan masyarakat mengatasinya secara mandiri. Jalan-jalan di dalam perumahan hingga perkampungan yang difungsikan oleh warga setempat sebagai ruang untuk bersosialisasi dengan tetangga atau tempat melakukan aktivitas. Kawasan Muara Baru yang terletak di wilayah pesisir Jakarta bagian Utara, masih terdapat banyak area perkampungan, tetapi tidak difasilitasi oleh ruang publik atau ruang terbuka sehingga untuk melakukan kegiatan berinteraksi dan beraktivitas, dilakukan di jalan/lorong kecil didepan rumah, yang dapat mengganggu lalu lintas dan juga membahayakan keselamatan warga dan juga pengguna jalan. Fenomena ini menandakan bahwa kebutuhan masyarakat akan ruang publik sangat tinggi dan perlu segera diantisipasi agar tidak terjadi degradasi lingkungan dan sosial, sehingga tujuan dari proyek ini adalah sebagai linkage yang menggabungkan manusia dengan lingkungan di sekitarnya, serta manusia dengan manusia lainnya, selain itu juga untuk membantu perekonomian dan usaha industri rumahan, yang dapat dilakukan serta menghasilkan uang untuk membantu perekonomian warga, serta menimbulkan interaksi positif, seperti pertukaran ilmu dan pembangunan aspek ekonomi, yang ke depannya akan menghasilkan kemajuan pada kota Jakarta dengan aspek sosial dan ekonomi yang seimbang.

The periodic inspection of certain infrastructure features plays a key role for road network safety and preservation, and for developing optimal maintenance planning that minimize the life-cycle cost of the inspected features. Mobile Mapping Systems (MMS) use laser scanner technology in order to collect dense and precise three-dimensional point clouds that gather both geometric and radiometric information of the road network. Furthermore, time-stamped RGB imagery that is synchronized with the MMS trajectory is also available. In this paper a methodology for the automatic detection and classification of road signs from point cloud and imagery data provided by a LYNX Mobile Mapper System is presented. First, road signs are detected in the point cloud. Subsequently, the inventory is enriched with geometrical and contextual data such as orientation or distance to the trajectory. Finally, semantic content is given to the detected road signs. As point cloud resolution is insufficient, RGB imagery is used projecting the 3D points in the corresponding images and analysing the RGB data within the bounding box defined by the projected points. The methodology was tested in urban and road environments in Spain, obtaining global recall results greater than 95%, and F-score greater than 90%. In this way, inventory data is obtained in a fast, reliable manner, and it can be applied to improve the maintenance planning of the road network, or to feed a Spatial Information System (SIS), thus, road sign information can be available to be used in a Smart City context.
