Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of preoperative pelvic sonography in predicting the weight of a non-gravid uterus at the time of hysterectomy. Additionally, the study seeks to examine the effect of varying uterine pathologies on the accuracy of these predictions. Methods: This was a retrospective comparative study in a tertiary care hospital with a total of 318 patients who underwent pelvic ultrasound, with reported uterine volumes, prior to undergoing hysterectomy in 2018. Estimated uterine weights from preoperative pelvic ultrasounds were compared to actual uterine weights from post-hysterectomy pathology reports. A Bland-Altman plot was constructed to determine intermethod agreement with 95% limits of agreement. Simple linear regression analysis was used to correlate estimated and actual uterine weights. Multivariable linear regression was performed, allowing for subgrouping by uterine pathology. Results: While a strong positive correlation was identified between the two measurements (r = .93, p <.01), the Bland-Altman analysis showed that actual uterine weight ranged from 0.51 to 1.99 times the magnitude predicted by preoperative ultrasound. These wide deviations in intermethod agreement were similar amongst the various uterine pathologies. Multivariable linear regression analysis demonstrated the difference in estimated and actual uterine weight was 2 to 3.5 times larger for patients with endometrial pathology, adenomyosis, and leiomyomata as compared to normal uteri (p < .03). Conclusion: This study shows that in 95% of cases, actual uterine weight ranged from half to twice as large as estimated by preoperative pelvic ultrasound. Uterine pathology had a significant impact on the reliability of ultrasound for estimation of uterine weight. In gynecologic practices where preoperative estimations of uterine weight are instrumental in choosing a surgical approach for hysterectomy, reliance on pelvic ultrasound as a means of predicting uterine weight should be carefully considered.

When body pressures are concentrated, sense of fatigue is increased. To confirm this, correlation analysis between the difference in stiffness of seat and comfort using multiple linear regression analysis has been conducted. For the selected three types of seats which are small-, mid-, and large-size seats, respectively, static tests were con-ducted to measure the distribution of the subject's body pressure on the cushion, through which local stiffness distribution were derived. Also, a subjective comfort evaluation was conducted, and analyzed. According to the present analysis results, the correlation coefficients between stiff-ness of hip area and comfort of hip area were observed to be 0.713 and 0.789, respectively, indicating a strong positive correlation. Thus, the comfort of seat perceived by the driver could be seen to have the largest linear correlation with the stiffness of hip area. Selection of variables for the multiple linear regression analysis was implemented by a backward removal method. Differences of stiffness by areas were selected as independent variables, and subjective comfort evaluation results were selected as dependent variables. According to multiple regression analysis, the comfort of the cushion increased when the left and right balance of the stiffness distribution was maintained even if the body pressure distribution of the hip area was concentrated on one side. According to the analysis results, the stiffness of hip area could be seen to have the greatest linear relationship with the overall satisfaction of comfort, in which comfort is planned to be confirmed by actual production of seats

Purpose: This retrospective study measured correlation of student performance between 2 objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and an introductory integrated clinical skills course that preceded the OSCEs. The hypothesis was that there would be a strong, positive correlation between the earlier level examinations and the upper level OSCE, high enough that earlier examinations could be viewed as predictors of upper level OSCE performance. Methods: Using student scores for 5 academic terms of upper level OSCEs for 2008–2009 (n = 208) and respective earlier scores, correlation coefficients were calculated for the upper level OSCE and Clinical Skills course, and upper and lower level OSCEs. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to evaluate how well the lower level OSCE and clinical skills scores, both as lone and combined independent variables, predicted the upper level OSCE scores. Results: There was at least a moderate correlation between both sets of scores: r = .51 (p < .001) between upper level OSCE and clinical skills course, r = .54 (p < .001) between the upper and lower level OSCEs. A combination of clinical skills and lower level OSCE scores suggested a moderate prediction of upper level OSCE scores (R2 = .38.) Conclusions: Correlations were found to be of at least a moderate level. According to linear regression analysis, a combination of the earlier scores was moderately predictive for the upper level OSCE. More research could be done to determine additional components of student performance.

Introduction: Nutritional management becomes crucial for the infants of cholestatic jaundice as they suffer from impaired digestion and absorption of fatty acid and fat soluble vitamins. Thus evaluation of nutritional status was done to identify undergoing malnutrition. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional, prospective study done in the indoor patients department of paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, BSMMU; since April 2016 to September 2016 (6 months). Purposive sampling was done from the infants (2 weeks to 12 months age) with cholestatic jaundice or having neonatal jaundice persisting more than 2 weeks. Linear regression analysis was done for correlation between different anthropometric variables. Results: Total 47 patients were enrolled in this study although 93 patients were admitted with cholestatic jaundice in that time period in the department. Most of them were found biliary atresia (61.70%) Idiopathic Neonatal Hepatitis (31.91%). Among anthropometric indices, Weight for length Z(WLZ) Score mean was -1.6 (±1.6), Triceps skin fold thickness (TST) mean 5.48 (±2.75) mm, and Subscapular skin fold thickness(SST) mean was 4.13 (±2.39)mm. Linear regression analysis of each variables done with other and found positive correlation between TST with WLZ Score and SST with WLZ score and found highly significant (p=0.008 in ANOVA) and (p=0.011 in ANOVA) respectively. Conclusion: Cholestatic babies were found mild to moderately malnourished in our study. Skin fold thickness was found to be an important early clinical marker for diagnosis of malnutrition which was found positively correlated with the standard procedure of anthropometry in our study. This study evaluated the fluoride intake from dentifrices with different fluoride concentrations ([F]) by children aged 24-36 months, as well as the influence of the dentifrice flavor in the amount of fluoride ingested during toothbrushing. Thirty-three children were randomly divided into 3 groups, according to the [F] in the dentifrices: G-A (523 µgF/g), G-B (1,062 µgF/g) and G-C (1,373 µgF/g). Dentifrices A and B are marketed for children, while dentifrice C is a regular product. The amount of F ingested was indirectly obtained, subtracting the amount expelled and the amount left on the toothbrush from the amount initially loaded onto the brush. The results were analyzed by ANOVA, Tukey's test and linear regression analysis (p < 0.05). Children ingested around 60% of the dentifrice loaded onto the brush, but no significant differences were seen among the groups (p > 0.05). Mean daily fluoride intake from dentifrice for G-A, G-B and G-C was 0.022ª, 0.032ª and 0.061b mg F/kg body weight, respectively (p < 0.01). There was a strong positive correlation (r = 0.86, p < 0.0001) between the amount of dentifrice used and the amount of fluoride ingested during toothbrushing. The results indicate the need for instructing children's parents and care givers to use a small amount of dentifrice (< 0.3 g) to avoid excessive ingestion of fluoride. The use of low-[F] dentifrices by children younger than 6 years also seems to be a good alternative to minimize fluoride intake. Dentifrice flavor did not influence the percentage of fluoride intake.

Pre-eclampsia complicates approximately 5–7% of pregnancies and it may be deleterious to both maternal and fetal health. In a prospective study, we investigated plasma endothelin (ET)-1 concentration within the 24th and 36th gestational week in non-smoking pregnant women. Thirty women fulfilled the criteria for the diagnosis of pre-eclampsia according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists: de novo arterial hypertension after the 20th gestational week in at least two separate measurements and proteinuria of more than 300mg/l in a random specimen. For comparison, we analysed blood samples from 125 non-pre-eclamptic pregnant women. ET-1 concentrations were higher in pre-eclamptic pregnancies at both time points (mean±S.D.: 1.07±2.00 versus 0.54±0.56pg/ml, P = 0.045 at 24th week; 0.75±1.20 versus 0.44±0.45pg/ml, P = 0.023 at 36th week). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves revealed a significant interaction between ET-1 plasma concentrations at the 36th week and the diagnosis of pre-eclampsia [area under the curve (AUC)±S.E.M.: 0.657±0.049, P = 0.008] and a cut-off value at 0.30pg/ml. Multivariate analysis showed a 4.6-fold higher chance (95% confidence interval: 1.7–12.1, P = 0.002) for the diagnosis of pre-eclampsia in pregnant women with ET-1 plasma concentration higher than 0.30pg/ml at the 36th week. Interaction between ET-1 plasma concentration at the 24th week and diagnosis of pre-eclampsia was not significant in ROC curve analysis (AUC±S.E.M.: 0.594±0.071, P = 0.278). Interestingly, we found a strong positive correlation between ET-1 concentration in the 24th and 36th week in linear regression analysis in pre-eclamptic (r = 0.99, P<0.001) and non-pre-eclamptic pregnancies (r = 0.61, P<0.001) with a slightly, non-significant decrease from the 24th to 36th week (for group means see above), indicating individual plasma ET-1 levels even in non-pre-eclamptic pregnancies. Linear regression analysis showed no correlation between blood pressure or urine protein excretion and ET-1 plasma concentration in non-pre-eclamptic pregnant women. In conclusion, our prospective study indicates that the ET system is, in contrast to most other forms of human hypertension, activated in pre-eclamptic pregnant women.

Some students perceive lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) positively, even though LGBT is a sexual deviation that is not appropriate with values and norms. There are several factors that influence an individual's perception of LGBT, including sexual identity. This study aims at looking at the contribution of sexual identity to student perceptions about LGBT. This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive method and a simple linear regression analysis. The sample of this research was 385 taken from 15.752 undergraduate students of Universitas Negeri Padang which the sample was drawn by using the Slovin formula and continued with a Proportional Random Sampling technique. The instrument used was the Guttman model's sexual identity scale and the scale of students' perceptions of the LGBT Likert model. After analyzing the data with the descriptive technique and the simple linear regression analysis, the results showed that sexual identity significantly contributed to the students' perceptions of LGBT. This research has implications as a basis for counselors to help students avoid sexual identity mismatches and prevent the emergence of positive perceptions of LGBT.
