Four botanicals viz., mahogany oil, mahogany seed extract, tobacco leaf extract, neem seed kernel extract along with one synthetic chemical, cypermethrin were tested for their efficacies against H. armigera. The lowest fruit infestation, both by number and weight, was observed in neem seed kernel extract (27.15%, 22.29%) treated plot which was statistically similar to tobacco leaf extract (27.71%, 23.31%) treated plot and cypermethrin (28.87%, 25.44%) treated fruits. While no significant difference was found among mahogany oil, mahogany seed extract and control treatments. Percent infestation reduction over control was the highest in neem seed kernel extract (30.08%) followed by tobacco leaf extract (28.68%). The highest yield (18.14 t/ha) and the highest MBCR (2.99) were also obtained from neem seed kernel extract treated fruits. A laboratory study was conducted at the JAU, Junagadh (Gujarat) during 2013-14 on the deterrent effect of different aqueous plant extracts against pulse beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) in stored seeds of cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.). Among different aqueous extracts of plants materials, maximum percentage of oviposition deterrence was observed in custard apple seed extract (67.19%), custard apple leaf extract (65.95%), neem seed extract (65.44%), mustard seed extract (64.65%) and jatropha leaf extract (64.16%) at 5 per cent concentration. The maximum adult emergence reduction was seen in custard apple seed extract (78.45%), custard apple leaf extract (77.14%) and neem seed kernel extract (NSKE) (77.09%) at 5 per cent dose level. Minimum weight loss percentage was observed in the cowpea seeds treated with custard apple seed extract at 5% dose level, which recorded 79.20%. The results revealed that all of the tested materials with some variations had deterrent and toxic effects against the pest.

Introduction: Ocimum basilicum (OB), a herb known for its antihypertensive, anticholinesterase and antioxidant properties was investigated for possible intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effects in rabbits with ocular hypertension (OHT). Methods: The IOP lowering effect of a single drop of OB extract (OBE) was evaluated in oculonormotensive rabbits using three concentrations (0.25, 0.5 and 1% w/v). The concentration showing maximum IOP reduction was further evaluated in rabbits with water-loading and steroid-induced OHT. Results: IOP lowering effect of OBE 0.5% in oculonormotensive rabbit eyes was significantly greater compared to OBE 0.25% (p<0.05) but was comparable (p>0.05) to OBE 1%. Therefore, 0.5% concentration was selected for further evaluation. Pretreatment with OBE (0.5%) caused significantly lower increase in IOP after water loading amounting to 23.39% above baseline as compared to 54.00% in control eye, 15 minutes post water loading. At 60 minutes, post water loading, mean IOP rise was 95.12% and 63.58% in control and test eyes, respectively. Significant difference between the mean IOP of two eyes persisted during the 2nd hr. In rabbits with steroid induced OHT, OBE 0.5% produced a mean IOP reduction of 24.73% at the end of first hr and the mean peak IOP reduction of 31.63% was observed at the end of 2 hr. A significant difference between the IOP of test and control eyes persisted from 1 to 6 hr. Conclusions: Ocimum basilicum seed extract showed significant IOP lowering effect in rabbits with water loading and steroid induced OHT, however, its utility as an effective antiglaucoma medication needs further investigations.

Environmental and infection variables may affect the genetic diversity of baculovirus populations. In this study, Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV) was used as a model system for studying the effects of a key infection variable, inoculum dose, on the genetic diversity within nucleopolyhedrovirus populations. Diversity and equitability indices were calculated from DNA polymerase-specific denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis profiles obtained from individual H. armigera neonate larvae inoculated with either an LD5 or LD95 of HearNPV. Although the genetic diversity detected in larvae treated with an LD95 was not statistically different from the diversity detected in the HearNPV inoculum samples, there was a statistically significant difference in the genetic diversity detected in the LD5-inoculated larvae compared with the genetic diversity detected in the HearNPV samples used for the inoculations. The study suggests that inoculum dose needs to be considered carefully in experiments that evaluate HearNPV genetic diversity or in studies where differences in genetic diversity may have phenotypic consequences.

<p>Rekomendasi pengendalian hama terpadu (PUT) hama utama lanaman kapas, akan tetapi secara tcknis dan ekonomis masih sulit diterapkan oleh petani. Unluk memperbaiki rekomendasi itu maka dikaji efisiensi pemanfaatan parasitoid Trichogrammatoidea armigera N&amp;N. HeUcoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus (//oNPV). dan insektisida nabati serbuk biji mimba (SBM) terhadap // armigera. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada musim lanam 199899 di kebun Instalasi Penelitian Tanaman Tembakau dan Serat, Asembagus, Situbondo, Jawa Timur. Rancangan penelitian adalah acak kelompok dengan 6 perlakuan, dan 3 ulangan Ukuran plot adalah 50 m x 50 m Pada rekomendasi standar rakitan komponen PITT, perlakuan yang ditambahkan adalah (1) penyemprotan SBM. (2) pelepasan T. armigera ■ penyemprotan SBM, (3) pelepasan '/'. armigera ' penyemprotan insektisida kimia, (4) penyemprotan faNPV I penyemprotan insektisida kimia. (5) penyemprotan insektisida kimia, dan (6) lanpa perlakuan (kontrol). Penyemprotan SUM, //oNPV, dan insektisida kimia dilakukan apabila populasi ulat // armigera mencapai ambang pengendalian (4 tanaman lerinfestasi per 25 tanaman). dan pelepasan 7 armigera dilakukan apabila populasi telur //. armigera mencapai ambang pelepasan (25 telur per 25 tanaman) Penyemprotan SBM, pelepasan T. armigera dan penyemprotan //oNPV dapat ditambahkan pada rekomendasi standar rakitan komponen PHT. Penambahan penyemprotan SBM pada rekomendasi standar rakitan komponen PITT adalah paling cisien diantara tiga komponen PITT yang ditambahkan, memberikan eisiensi (Marginal Regional Rate of Return. (5) chemical; and (6) control (unlrcatment) were added lo the standar IPM recommendation package. Neem, /YoNPV, and chemical spray was done whenever population of H. armigera larvae reached action threshold (4 infected plants 25 plants) and release of T. armigera was done whenever population of H. armigera eggs reached "release threshold" (25 cggs/25 plants) Neem seed powder spray, T. armigera release, and //oNPV spray could be added to (he standar IPM recomendation package. Ihe most efficient among this three components was neem seed powder spray. We evaluated the effectiveness of using a blend of volatiles that attract Cotesia vestalis, a specialist parasitoid wasp of diamondback moth (DBM) larvae, to control DBM larvae on cabbage plants under open field conditions. We set three dispensers of the synthetic C. vestalis attractant together with one sugary-food feeder in a cabbage plot (10 m × 1 m; the treated plot) on one side of a pesticide-free open agricultural field (approximately 20 m × 20 m) from June to September in 2010 and July to August in 2011. On the other side of the field, we created a control cabbage plot of the same size in which neither dispensers nor a feeder was set. The incidences of DBM larvae and C. vestalis cocoons in the control and treated plots were compared. In 2010, the incidence of DBM larvae in the treated plot was significantly lower than that in the control plot. Poisson regression analyses in 2010 showed that the rate of increase in the number of C. vestalis cocoons along with an increase in the number of DBM larvae in the treated plot was significantly higher than that in the control plot. In 2011, the incidence in both the treated and control plots remained low (five larvae per plant or less) with no significant difference between the plots. Poisson regression analyses in 2011 showed that the number of C. vestalis cocoons in the treated plot was significantly higher than that in the control plot, irrespective of the number of DBM larvae. This 2-year field study suggested that the dispensers recruited native C. vestalis from the surrounding environment to the treated plot, and the dispensers controlled the number of DBM larvae in 2010 when the density of DBM larvae exceeded the economic injury levels for the cabbage crop. We also compared the incidences of other arthropods in the control and treated plots. The incidences of Pieris rapae larvae and Plusiinae spp. were not affected by the treatments. The number of aphids in the treated and control plots was inconsistent between the 2 years. Based on these 2-year results, the possible use of C. vestalis attractants in open agricultural fields is discussed.

The objective of this study was to determine leucocyte and offspring production of guinea pig (Cavia cobaya) giving Anredera cordifolia leaf extract. Materials used were female 16 heads of guinea pig with body weight of 425g. The treatments were an extract of A. cordifolia leaf at doses of 0, 10, 50 and 90 mg/head, designated as T0, T1, T2 and T3, respectively. A. cordifolia leaf extract was administered orally from 10 days prepartum to 10 days postpartum. Blood was taken at 10 days prepartum and 10 days postpartum. Total birth of the offspring was observed. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and if there was effect of treatment, then continued with Duncan multiple range test and Chi-Square test for fetal production between the given A. cordifolia leaf extract and control. The result showed that there was no significant difference for 10 days prepartum after addition of A cordifolia leaf extract treatment. The postpartum treated showed a total 50 mg/head level increaed for monocytes than that of level 0, 10 and 90 mg/head. Ten days postpartum treatment showed the total increase for leucocyte and monocytes total were 50 and 90 mg/head, respectively compared to 10 mg/head level. Total lymphocyte of 90 mg/head increased compared to level 10 and 50 mg/head. The highest total neutrophil as found at level of 50 mg/head which increased compared to the level of 0 and 10 mg/head. ProvisioningA. cordifolialeaf extract at doses level of 50 and 90 mg/head could increase litter size (P<0.05; χ2=9.267) and decreased offspring mortality (P<0.05; χ2=6.4). In conclusion, by giving 50 mg/head A. cordifolia leaf extract could increase leucocyte profile and offspring production of guinea pig.

Research the effect of andaliman leaf extract on mice ovaries, volume test material using oral gavage needles as much 0.1 ml / 10 g bb 4 days before and after estrus stage and using RAL non-factorial method consisting of control and treatment group. Treatment consisted of factor test material with dose 2500, 5000, 10000, 20000, 40000 ppm. Chemical content of andaliman leaf extract shown from results study are alkaloids, steroids and saponins. Giving treatment of andaliman leaf extract for 9 days on histological data in the number primary, secondary, De Graff, and atretic follicles experienced fluctuating changes, but statistically did not show a significant difference between treatment and control mice groups, while different results were significantly shown in the number of corpus luteum. Parameters diameter of primary follicles, De Graff, and corpus luteum tended to experience changes that fluctuated, but statistically did not show the difference between the treatment and control mice groups, while the diameter of secondary and atretic follicles showed significantly different results. From the results study, administration of andaliman leaf extract affects histological mice ovaries, because it affects oogenesis and ovulation, but fluctuates, possibly due to crude extract, which has not isolated chemical content.
