An experiment was conducted with cabbage during October 2012 to February 2013 at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Four levels of nitrogen: viz. 0, 150, 250 and 350 kg ha-1 and three plant spacings: 50 x 30, 50 x 40 and 50 x 50 cm were applied in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Nitrogen @ 250 kg ha-1 with the spacing of 50 x 50 cm was more effective and produced the highest fresh weight of head(2.17 kg), marketable head yield (86.93 t ha-1). This treatment was also more profitable than the rest of the treatments, while the lowest profit was in N0S1.The Agriculturists 2015; 13(1) 35-45

A field experiment was conducted in Wolkite University, Horticulture department practical demonstration site, from February to June 2019 with the objective of determining the optimum level of N and intrarow spacing for better growth of lettuce. The experiment consisted of four levels of N (N0 (0 kg/ha), N1 (50 kg/ha), N2 (100 kg/ha), and N3 (150 kg/ha)) and three levels of intrarow spacing (S1 (15 × 30 cm), S2 (20 × 30 cm), and S3 (25 × 30 cm)). The interrow spacing was maintained as 30 cm. The experiment was laid out in 3 × 4 factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replicated three times. The main effect of nitrogen resulted maximum yield (9.45 ton/ha), dry weight per plant (28.75 g), and fresh weight per plant (57.57 g) which were recorded by the application of 150 kg/ha nitrogen. Likewise, the main effect of intrarow spacing gave maximum yield (8.01 ton/ha), dry weight per plant (21.31 g), and fresh weight per plant (59.15 g) from 25 × 30 cm plant spacing. For interaction effect, the highest yield (10.38 ton/ha), dry weight per plant (50.96 g), and fresh weight per plant (77.88 g) was found from N3S3 (150 kg/ha N and 25 × 30 cm plant spacing). Therefore, in the study, area using 150 kg/ha urea with 25 × 30 cm plant spacing could be advisable for optimum lettuce production.

Diversification of plant species is needed to anticipate price fluctuation of vegetables. Intercropping system compared to monoculture can give more benefits to farmers. The arrangement of plant spacings of sweet corn and cabbage variety is expected to result in higher yields and benefits in intercropping. The field experiment, which had the objective to study the effects of plant spacing of sweet corn and cabbage variety on yields of sweet corn and cabbage in the intercropping system, had been conducted from March to July 2008. The experiment was carried out at the dryland farming area at Candikuning Village, district of Baturiti, Tabanan regency, 1.200 m asl. In the experiment, a randomized complete block design with two factors namely plant spacing of sweet corn (120 cm x40 cm, 180 cm x 40 cm and 240 cm x 40 cm) and variety of cabbage (Green Nova and Summer-Autumn) were used. Plant spacing of cabbage was 60 cm x 40 cm. All treatments were replicated four times. The results of the experiment showed that the effect of interaction between plant spacing of sweet corn and cabbage variety in intercropping was not significant on yields of sweet corn and cabbage. Individually, sweet corn plant spacing of 120 cm x40 cm gave the highest fresh weight of cob without husk (10,91 t ha"'), which was 44.50% and 80.93% respectively higher than the spacing of ! 80 cm x 40 cm and 240 cm x 40 cm. The spacing of 180 cm x 40 cm resulted in not the significantly different fresh weight of cob with husk but gave the highest fresh weight of cabbage heads (56.101 ha'1), which was 27.36% higher than that at sweet corn spacing of 120 cm x 40 cm and was not significantly different from that at 240 cm x 40 cm. Cabbage variety Green Nova gave the highest head (56.101 ha1), which was 14.48% higher than variety Summer-Autumn. Intercropping between cabbage variety Green Nova and Sweet corn at 180 cm x 40 cm spacing resulted in the highest benefit (Rp. 20,488125 t ha'1), which was Rp. 3,335500 higher than the average benefit of cabbage monoculture. The efficiency of land use in intercropping was higher (LER: 1.69) than in monoculture (LER: 1). It is suggested to use cabbage variety Green Nova intercropped with sweet corn at I 80 cm x 40 cm spacing. An experiment studying the effect of cabbage intercropped with sweet corn and other short season vegetables planted after harvesting cabbages is also suggested.

An experiment was carried out at the Horticulture Farm of the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during  the period from November 2010 to January 2011 to study the effects of cowdung and potassium on growth and yield  of Kohlrabi. The experiment consisted of three levels of cowdung (0, 20 and 40 t/ha) and four levels of potassium (0,  20, 50, 80 kg /ha). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. All the  parameters were significantly influenced by application of cowdung and potassium. The highest plant height (44.65  cm), number of leaves per plant (12.11), length of largest leaf (37.54 cm), and breadth of largest leaf (18.66 cm) were  obtained from the highest dose of cowdung and potassium applied (40 t cowdung + 80 kg K/ha) while the lowest  plant height (33.64 cm), number of leaves (9.01), length of largest leaf (27.94 cm), and breadth of largest leaf (11.00  cm) were obtained from control treatment combination. The highest fresh weight of leaves (49.33 g), fresh weight of  knob (328.66 g) and fresh weight of roots (66.55 g) per plant were also recorded under the treatment combination of  40 t cowdung + 80 kg K/ha, while the lowest fresh weight of leaves (22.11 g), fresh weight of knob (136.00 g) and  fresh weight of roots (23.33 g) were obtained from control treatment combination. Similarly, the dry weight of leaves  (19.34%), knob (15.19%) and roots (32.75%) were highest under the same treatment combination of 40 t cowdung +  80 kg K/ha and the lowest dry weight of leaves (11.71%), dry weight of knob (7.38%) and dry weight of roots  (15.29%) were obtained from control treatment combination C0K0. The marketable yields of knob per plot (7.86 kg)  and per hectare (39.58 tons) were also the highest under the treatment combination 40 t cowdung/ha and 80 kg  potassium per hectare.   DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v10i1.12035   J. A field experimental was conducted at Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar during rabi 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 in randomized complete block design with sixteen treatment combinations consisting four levels of sulphur (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg S ha-1) and boron (0, 1, 2 and 3 kg B ha-1) replicated three times. Application of 30 kg S ha-1 showed marked improvement in growth and nodulation parameters in pea. Increasing dose of boron in the absence of sulphur up to 3kg ha-1 resulted marked improvement in growth and nodulation in garden pea. Higher values of plant height, number of branches plant-1, fresh weight plant-1 , dry weight plant-1, number of nodules plant-1, fresh weight of nodules plant-1ha- and dry weight of nodules plant -1 were noticed with combined application of 30 kg S + 2 kg B ha-1.

An experiment was carried out at farmer’s field in Debigonj, Panchagorh during November 2009 to February 2010 to evaluate the effect of four levels of applied nitrogen on the growth and yield of carrot. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The maximum plant height (47.36 cm), root length (16.17 cm), fresh weight of leaves (145.1 g), dry matter content (11.66 g) of leaves, fresh weight of root (68.33 g), dry matter content of root (15.90%), gross yield (22.55 t/ha) and marketable yield (20.67 t/ha) were found in 100 kg N/ha. In this research, in order to study the effect of different concentrations of IBA and time of taking cutting on rooting, growth and survival of F. binnendijkii ‘Amstel Queen’ cuttings, a test was conducted in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Treatments were consisted of four levels of hormones: 0 (control), 2000, 4000 and 6000 mg/l, with two intervals of time for taking cuttings (late June and early September). Results showed that highest root percentage, root number and fresh weight of root were for IBA concentrations of 4000 and 6000 mg/l and cuttings taken early in September. The maximum of mean length of root and longest root were achieved in concentration of 6000 mg/l IBA, taking cutting in early September. The highest survival percentage of plants was recorded in concentrations of 4000 and 6000 mg/l IBA, early September being the appropriate time of taking the cutting. The greatest length of new shoots was obtained in concentration of 4000 mg/l IBA, cutting in late June, while the maximum number of new leaf was in IBA concentration of 2000 and 4000 mg/l, with cuttings taken also in late June.

Maize is the second most important crop of Nepal. The yield of the crop is low due to lack of appropriate plant density for the varieties. The field experiment was carried out to study the effect of different row spacings on different maize varieties at Deupur, Lamahi municipality of the dang district in province No. 5, Nepal during the rainy season from June to September, 2018. Four levels of spacings (boardcasting and three row spacings of 45, 60 and 75 cm) and two maize varieties (Rampur Composite and Arun-2) were evaluated using randomized complete block design with three replications. The highest grain yield was found in Rampur Composite and Arun-2 while they were planted with row spacing of 60 cm with plant to plant spacing of 25 cm. The highest grain yield, cob length, cob circumference, number of rows per cob, thousand grain weight  were reported when maize was planted in the  row spacing 60×25cm. Among the maize varieties, Rampur Composite produced the highest grain yield, cob length, cob circumference, number of rows per cob as compared to Arun-2. This study suggested that maize production can be maximized by cultivating maize varieties with row spacing of 60 cm with plant to plant spacing of 25 cm.

A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh from July 2016 to December 2016 to find out the effect of seedlings age and different nitrogen (N) levels on the yield performance of transplant Aman rice (cv. Binadhan-15). The experiment comprised four ages of seedlings  viz., 15 , 20 , 25, 30 day old and four levels of nitrogen viz., 0 ,55 , 75 and 95 kg N ha–1 following randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The effect of age of seedling, nitrogen levels and their interactions were significant on growth, yield and yield contributing characters of transplant Aman rice. The highest plant height at harvest (92.67 cm), number of effective tillers plant–1 (8.70), grain (4.55 t ha–1) and straw yields (5.49 t ha–1) were obtained from 75 kg N ha–1. By using optimum seedling age at 15 DAT the highest plant height (102.7cm at harvest), number of effective tillers plant–1 (8.29), grain (4.01 t ha–1) and straw (5.06 t ha–1) yields. In interaction, 75 kg N and 15 days old seedling produced highest plant height (106.3 cm at harvest), number of effective tillers plant–1 (9.42), grain (5.0 t ha–1) and straw yields (6.10 t ha–1). From the above results of the present study, it may be stated that Binadhan-15 is grown successfully for obtaining maximum yield with 75 kg N ha-1 and 15-day old seedling age individually or in combination.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of bacterial bio-fertilization A. chroococcum and P. putide and four levels of compost (0, 1, 2, 3) tons.h-1 on the leaves content of N.P.K elements. The experiment was carried out in one of the greenhouses of the College of Agriculture - University of Al-Qadisiyah during fall season 2018-2019. It designed in accordance with the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates in sandy loam soil. The means of treatments were compared with the least significant difference (LSD) at (5)% probability level. The results present that the treatments of A. chroococcum, P. putide and compost at (3) tons.kg-1 significantly increases the leaves content of K.P.K compared to all other treatments in the flowering stage (4.970, 0.5000, and 4.930) mg.kg-1, respectively. This treatment was followed by the effect of the treatment of A. chroococcum and compost at (3) tons.kg-1, which increases the values of all traits except the leaf content of (P). Bio-fertilizer with P. putide + A. chroococcum significantly increases the leaves' content of P.

Squash seeds yield and quality can be improved by proper population plant spacing and the pollen quantity, which influences the pollination quality and fertilization. Nine experiments were conducted as a factorial combination of three spacing between plants (0.8 x 0.3, 0.8 x 0.6 and 0.8 x 0.9 m), two quantities of pollen (50% of an anther and another entire one) and natural insect pollination. Seed and fruit production parameters, and seed quality were evaluated. A randomized complete block design, five replications, with ten plants per plot was adopted. Larger plant spacing increased the average number of mature fruits and seed yield per plant. Seed yield was directly proportional to the amount of pollen used during pollination. Higher amounts of pollen resulted in higher seed yield per area, but the plant spacing did not affect this characteristic. Manual pollination, using a whole anther, did not differ from natural pollination in relation to seed yield and quality.
