A field experiment was carried out at the experimental field of Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Salna, Gazipur during November 2008 through April 2009 to find out the performance of different pea varieties at different harvesting time. The treatments consisted of two factors, which were four harvesting times (70, 80, 90 and 100 days after sowing) and six varieties of garden pea (IPSA Motor shuti-1, IPSA Motor shuti-2, IPSA Motor shuti-3, BARI Motor shuti-1, BARI Motor shuti-3 and Local white). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The maximum pod yield (11.42 t ha-1) was obtained from BARI Motor shuti-1 harvesting at 80 days after sowing which was statistically similar to IPSA Motor shuti-2  harvesting at 80 days after sowing and Local white at same harvesting date and superior to the rest of the treatment combination. The lowest pod yield (5.25 t ha-1) was produced by BARI Motor shuti-1 harvesting at 70 days after sowing.Bangladesh Agron. J. 2014, 17(2): 21-28

The experiment was conducted in the Horticultural Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh with aim to find out the suitable variety, optimum nutrients and suitable combination variety and optimum nutrients for maximum growth, yield of French bean in Bangladesh. The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor A: different varieties as V1 = BARI French bean-1, V2= BARI French bean-2, V3= BARI French bean-3 and Factor B: different level of nutrients as N1= cowdung (5 t/ha) + vermicompost (2 t/ha), N2= cowdung (5 t/ha) + N90 P30 K45 kg/ha, N3= cowdung (5 t/ha) + vermicompost (2 t/ha) + N90 P30 K45 kg/ha. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. In case of different varieties of French bean the maximum number of flowers (27.83), the highest number of pod harvested per plant (22.14) and the highest pod yield (15.95 t/ha) were found from V2, whereas the lowest was from V3. For the different levels of nutrients1 the highest number of flowers (25.58), the highest number of pod per plant (20.60) and the highest pod yield (14.10 t/ha) were recorded from N2 treatment, while the lowest was from N1 treatment. Due to the combined effect, the maximum number of flowers (32.02), the maximum number of pod harvested per plant (26.50), the highest pod yield (18.92 t/ha) were observed from V2N2 treatment combination, while the lowest were from V3N1 treatment combination. Therefore, the V2N2 treatment combination appeared to be the best for achieving the higher growth and yield of French bean.

The pepper is very important horticultural commodities. The purpose of this research was to study the advantagesof Anies IPB varieties and develop the description. Anies IPB was the result of the selection of segregating populations from the crosses of IPB C120 (as the female parent) and IPB C5 (as the male parent). The experiments were performed in four locations namely Boyolali (Central Java), Sumedang (West Java), and Bogor (West Java). The experimental used the randomized complete block design (RCBD) two factors with three replications. The replications nested within the locations. The first factor was 9 lines and 2 open pollinated varieties, and the second factor was the three locations. Each lines on each replicate in each location were planted 24 plants. The results showed that the superiority of Anies IPB varieties were (1) The productivity of Anies IPB was higher than the check varieties. Productivity can reach 18.6 tons ha-1. (2) Anies IPB has fruit that was longer than the Tit Super and Trisula. (3) Anies IPB has early-harvesting time, ranged between 76.67 - 84.67 days after planting. (4) Anies IPB has a high level of stability and classified into the dynamic stability, which means that veryadaptive to the optimum environment.Keyword: non hybrid, pepper productivity superiority, variety

A field research was conducted at the Horticultural Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period from October 2017 to March 2018 to study the effect of vermicompost and earthing upon growth and yield of onion. The experiment consists of two factors. Factor-A Vermicompost V0 (control), V1 (6 t ha-1 vermicompost), V2 (10 t ha-1 vermicompost) and V3 (14 t ha-1 vermicompost) and Factor-B Earthing up E0 (control), E1 (Two times earthing up) and E2 (Three times earthing up). The experiment was laid out in RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with three replications. The collected data were statistically analyzed. Results revealed that in terms of vermicompost application The highest fresh weight bulb-1 (40.07 g), yield plot-1 (527.89 g) and yield ha-1 (5.39 t) were found from the treatment V3 compared to V0 (control) treatment. Again, in terms of different earthing up treatments, the highest fresh weight bulb-1 (32.48 g), yield plot-1 (431.67 g) and yield ha-1 (4.41 t) were found from the treatment E2 (Three times earthing up) compared to E0 (control) treatment. Both vermicompost and earthing up and their combination showed a considerable variation on different growth and yield parameters of onion. The highest fresh weight bulb-1 (42.73 g), yield plot-1 (567.33 g) and yield ha-1 (5.79 t) were found from the treatment combination of V3E2 compared to control V0E0 (control) treatment combination. And it may be summarized that 14 t/ha vermicompost with three times earthing up performed the maximum yield compared to other treatments.

An experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from October, 2018 to March, 2019 to study the influence of sulphur and boron on growth and yield of garden pea. The experiment comprised of two factors. Factor A: Levels of Sulphur (4 levels); S0: 0 kg S/ha (Control), S1: 10 kg S/ha, S2: 20 kg S/ha, S3: 30 kg S/ha and Factor B: Levels of Boron (4 levels); B0: 0 kg B/ha (Control), B1: 1 kg B/ha, B2: 2 kg B/ha, B3: 3 kg B/ha. This experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Blocked Design (RCBD) with three replications. Sulphur and Boron application influenced significantly on most of the parameters. In case of sulphur, maximum plant height (50.84 cm), number of pods per plant (14.00), pod length (8.95 cm), number of seeds per pod (5.56) and green pod yield (10.76 t/ha) were recorded from S3 treatment. In case of boron application, maximum plant height (49.17 cm), number of pods per plant (13.48), pod length (8.66 cm), number of seeds per pod (5.41) and green pod yield (10.14 t/ha) were found in B2 treatment. Among the treatment combination, S3B2 treatment gave the highest green pod yield (12.19 t/ha) and the lowest (5.38 t/ha) was obtained from S0B0 treatment. So, garden pea sown at 30 kg S/ha with 2 kg B/ha for suitable green pea production in Dhaka region.

In the present investigation, fifteen hybrids were developed during 2014-15 by utilizing five lines (Line 12, Line 13, Line 14, Line 15 and Line 17) and three testers (Matar Ageta, Palam Triloki and Arkel) and, were evaluated along with their parents for heterosis and combining ability studies following randomized complete block design during 2015-16. Same material was evaluatedin F2 during 2016-17 to ascertain the inbreeding depression. A wide range of residual heterosis over better parent and standard checks was observed in F2 generation for pod yield and related traits. Significant values of inbreeding depression and inbreeding vigour were found for almost all the traits in different crosses. Cross L13 x T2 exhibited maximum significant and negative residual heterosis over better parent (22.59%) and SC1 (17.39%) for days to 50% flowering and for days to first picking (9.50%), also exhibited maximum significant and negative residual heterosis (12.83%) over better parent for days to first picking. Studies on GCA effects revealed that line 17 was best general combiner for number of pods per plant, pod yield per plant and amongst testers, Palam Triloki for days to 50% flowering and days to first picking.On the basis of per se performance, extent of heterosis and specific combining ability effects, hybrid 17 x Palam Triloki and L13 × Palam Triloki were identified as the best crosses for earliness in F1 and F2 respectively. L17 x Arkel and L17 x Palam Triloki were observed as best hybrid for high green pod yield per plant, pods per plant and number of pods per plant in F1 and F2 respectively.

Recognition of high yielding and nitrogen (N) fixing groundnut genotypes and desegregating them in the cereal-based cropping systems common in savannah regions will enhance food security and reduce the need for high N fertilizers hence, minimize the high cost and associated environmental consequences. Field trials were conducted during the 2015 growing season at the Research Farms of Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Samaru-Zaria to assess the yield potential and Biolog- ical N fixation in 15 groundnut genotypes (ICG 4729, ICGV-IS 07823, ICGV-IS 07893, ICGV-IS 07908, ICGV- SM 07539, ICGV- SM 07599, ICGV-IS 09926, ICGV-IS 09932, ICGV-IS 09992, ICGV-IS 09994, SAMNUT-21, SAMNUT-22, SAMNUT-25, KAMPALA and KWANKWAS). The groundnut genotypes and reference Maize crop (SAMMAZ 29) were planted in a randomized complete block design in three replications. N difference method was used to estimate the amount of N fixed. The parameters determined were the number of nodules, nod- ule dry weight, shoot and root dry weights, pod, and haulm yield as well as N fixation. The nodule dry weight, BNF, haulm, and pod yield were statistically significant (P<0.01) concerning genotype and location. Similarly, their interac- tion effect was also highly significant. ICGV-IS 09926 recorded the highest nod- ule dry weight of 2.07mg /plant across the locations while ICGV-IS 09932 had the highest BNF value of 140.27Kg/ha. Additionally, KAMPALA had the high- est haulm yield, while ICGV-IS 07893 had the highest pod yield across the loca- tions with a significant interaction effect. The result shows that ICGV-IS 07893 and ICGV-IS 09932, as well as ICGV-IS 09994 and SAMNUT – 22, were the best genotypes concerning BNF, haulm and pod yield in the Northern Guinea and Sudan Savannahs of Nigeria respectively with the potential for a corresponding beneficial effect.

New superior varieties (VUB) are a reliable technological innovation to increase rice productivity. This study aims to determine the yield potential of some lowland rice VUB. The assessment was carried out on land owned by a member of the Sumber Rejeki Farmer Group, Cintaratu Village, Lakbok District, Ciamis Regency at Dry Season II in June-September 2020. The study used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with six varieties of treatment and was repeated ten times. The varieties tested were Inpari 32, Inpari 42, Padjadjaran, Cakrabuana, Inpari IR Nutrizinc, and Siliwangi varieties. The variables observed included the growth component, yield component, and yield component. Data were analyzed using the F test followedby the Duncan Multiple Range Test at the Q=5% level. In addition, a correlation test was conducted between the growth components, yield components, and yields. The results of the study indicated that the new superior rice varieties studied had different performance in growth, number of tillers, yield, and yield components. Inpari 42 variety produced the highest productivity, namely 6.88 ton ha-1 which was supported by the number of grains per panicle, percentage of filled grains per panicle, and percentage of empty grain per panicle which were better than other varieties. Plant height and number of grains per panicle were positively correlated with yield.

Application of right dosage of fertilizer and concentration of plant growth regulator are supporting factor of clove growth. This study was aimed to obtain the best combination of organic-inorganic fertilizer, the best triacontanol concentration and both interactions for increasing clove growth. This study used a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor was the organic-inorganic fertilizer dosage package that consisted of 6 levels, i.e no fertilizer, 100% recommended dosage of inorganic fertilizer (r.d.i.f), 25% recommended dosage of organic fertilizer (r.d.o.f) + 75% r.d.i.f, 50% r.d.o.f + 50% r.d.i.f, 75% r.d.o.f + 25% r.d.i.f, 100% r.d.o.f. The second factor was the concentration of triacontanol that consisted of 3 levels, i.e no triacontanol, 2 mg L-1 and 4 mg L-1. The results showed that the application of 25% r.d.o.f + 75% r.d.i.f produced the best clove growth, but it was not significantly different from the combination treatment of the two other types of fertilizer as indicated by the greatest improvement on stem diameter, branches number, leaf area, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll and carotenoids. Clove plants did not respond to the application of triacontanol at a concentration of 2 mg L-1, but gave a negative response to the application of triacontanol 4 mg L-1 on the plant height and leaf area variables. The interaction of the two factors did not have significant effects on all variables. Keywords: chlorophyll, morphology, nutrient dynamics, physiology, vegetative growth

<p>Phenotypic Performance of Yield and Yield Component of Rice Promising Lines at Tidal Swamp Area in Karang Agung, South Sumatra. An experiment was conducted in Karang Agung, in April until September 2007. The experiment aimed at evaluating phenotypic performance of yield and yield components of promising lines in tidal swamp rice field. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design with 16 treatments and four replications. The promising lines tested were B9858-KA-55, B9833C-KA-14, B9852E-KA-66, B5524G-SM-61-2-1, B7003D-MR-24-3-1, KAL9414F-MR-2-KN-0, KAL9418F-MR-2-KN-0, B10214FTB- 7-2-3, IR70213-9-CPA-12-UBN-2-1-3-1, IR70215-2- CPA-2-1-B-1-2. The check varieties used were IR42, Batanghari and Lembu Sawah. The results of this experiment showed that IR61242-3B-B-2 had better performance among varieties and promising lines tested, as well as giving the highest yield potential. Meanwhile, the line B10214F-TB-7-2- 3 had better performance of number of filled grain, and 1.000 grain weight. It also showed higher yield potential compared to IR42 and Batanghari. The line KAL9418F-MR-2-KN-0 had better performance of plant height, 1.000 weight grain and harvest age, but showed lower yield potential compared to those other check varieties.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Percobaan dilaksanakan di KP Karang Agung, Sumatera Selatan pada bulan April sampai September 2007. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang penampilan fenotipik karakter hasil dan komponen hasil dari galur-galur harapan padi rawa di lahan pasang surut Karang Agung. Percobaan ditata dalam rancangan acak kelompok dengan 16 perlakuan dan empat ulangan. Galur-galur yang diuji di antaranya B9858-KA-55, B9833C-KA-14, B9852E-KA-66, B5524GSM- 61-2-1, B7003D-MR-24-3-1, KAL9414F-MR-2-KN-0, KAL9418F-MR-2-KN-0, B10214F-TB-7-2-3, IR70213-9- CPA-12-UBN-2-1-3-1, dan IR70215-2-CPA-2-1-B-1-2. Varietas pembanding digunakan IR42, Batanghari, dan Lembu Sawah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa galur IR61242- 3B-B-2 memiliki penampilan lebih baik dari varietas pembanding untuk karakter tinggi tanaman, jumlah gabah isi, bobot 1.000 butir gabah, dan potensi hasil. Galur B10214F-TB-7-2-3 memberikan penampilan lebih baik untuk karakter jumlah gabah isi, bobot 1.000 butir, dan potensi hasil lebih tinggi daripada pembanding IR42 dan Batanghari. Galur KAL9418F-MR- 2-KN-0 memiliki penampilan lebih baik untuk karakter bobot 1.000 butir, tinggi tanaman, dan umur panen, tetapi potensi hasilnya lebih rendah dari ketiga varietas pembanding.</p>

A field experiment is conducted to study the effect of different levels of peat (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 Mg ha-1 to uncropped and cropped soil to wheat. Soil samples are taken in different period of time (0, 3, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 180 days after cultivation to determine (NaHCO3-Exteractable P at 3 different depths (0-10, 10-20, and 20-30 cm). Field Experiment is conducted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replicates. Wheat, Al-Rasheed variety, is cultivated as a testing crop. The entire field is equally dived in two divisions. One of the two divisions is cultivated to wheat and the second is left uncropped. The effect of five levels of peat namely 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 Mg ha-1 is investigated. Soils are fully analyzed to determine its physical and chemical characteristics. The soil samples are collected after 3, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 180 days for determining essential parameters and indicators that reflect the effect of the level of peat applications. Sodium bicarbonate - extractable P in uncropped and cropped soils at all depths, markedly decreases with time after peat application which has been attributed to plant uptake and rapid reaction of P with soil constituents. Sodium bicarbonate - extractable P with time in soil receiving 50 Mg ha-1 in both uncropped and cropped soil linearly decreases with the time of cultivation
