Fecundity estimation has obvious significance in aquaculture, since the size of brood stock, amount of rearing facilities and necessity of other equipment’s are dependent on fecundity. The study has been conducted on fecundity estimation of Indian potasi, Neotropius atherinoides, based on 202 females collected from the Kangsha River flowing through Netrokona district during the period from January to June 2013. The standard length (SL) range of female were 47-66, 50-64, 57-68, 50-66, 56-66 and 60-76 mm and range of body weight were 1.07-3.56, 1.23-3.35, 2.36-3.81, 1.69-4.31, 2.33-5.59 and 3.18-5.14 g in January, February, March, April, May and June, respectively. The mean Gonado somatic indices (GSI) were very low from January to March but these were abruptly high during subsequent three months. Based on mean GSI the spawning season of this species was assumed from April to June over the study period. Scatter plot of standard length with corresponding GSI revealed that the minimum length of mature female was 50 mm SL. Egg diameter frequency distribution of a mature ovary showed almost only one major mode of egg size suggested that the fish is a single spawner, and summation of eggs in that mode was regarded as the fecundity of a female Indian potasi. The regression equation of the relationship between standard length and fecundity was as, Fecundity = 0.0017 SL 3.55. The relative fecundity and the absolute fecundity of a fish having SL of 62 mm was 1477 per g and 3921, respectively based on F-SL relationship. The relationship between body weight and fecundity was as, Fecundity = 1371.3 BW-650.8. The absolute fecundity of a fish having BW of 3.51 g was 4162 respectively based F-BW relationship. The relationship between ovary weight and fecundity was as, Fecundity = 6244.3 OW + 967.52. The absolute fecundity of a fish having ovary weight of 3.51 g was 7211 based F-OW relationship. The correlation coefficient of all above analyses were very high (>0.755) attributing that standard length, body weight and gonad weight were highly positively correlated with fecundity of Indian Potasi, Neotropius atherinoides. A total of 1183 Botia Dario (Hamilton) samples were collected from Rajshahi (Shaheb Bazar, Binodpur Bazar, Talaimari Bazar, Kazla Bazar and Godagari) during the period from January, 2002 to August, 2003 to study the fecundity, sex-ratio, relationship between fecundity and total length, standard length, body weight, ovary length as well as ovary weight. The mean fecundity was calculated as 31833.50±10313.42 with a range of 5245 to 53754 in fishes ranging in total length from 96 mm to 135 mm (mean 115.50±12.11 mm) and in body weight from 14.51 g to 43.29 g (mean 29.71±6.91 g). The relationship between the fecundity (F) and total length (TL), standard length (SL), body weight (BW), ovary length (OL) and ovary weight (OW) were found to be linear with the ‘r’ values 0.94, 0.94, 0.95, 0.92 and 0.98, respectively. The ovum diameter ranged from 0.3 to 0.72 mm and the mean diameter was calculated as 0.518±0.06 mm. The male to female ratio was 1:0.61. Key words: Botia dario, fecundity, sex-ratio. Univ. j. zool. An experiment was carried out on the spawning and mortality of eggs and larvae of Magur, Clarias batrachus collected from brood-stock pond during the study period.The lowest spawn production (3774 eggs) was recorded in the fish having 23 cm total length and 115 g total body weight and the highest spawn production (10102 eggs) was recorded in the fish having 26.4 cm total length and 230 g total body weight. The spawn production was found to increase with the increase of total length,standard length and total body weight following the equations, Y= –13921+833.7X, r= 0.685, Y= 13965+909.8X, r= 0.667 and Y= 1326+33.02X, r= 0.810, respectively. The relationships between spawn production with total length, standard length and total body weight of the fish were found to be linear and significant (p<0.01). The lowest mortality rate (30.41%) was recorded in the fish having 26.4 cm total length and 224 g total body weight and the highest mortality rate (42.76%) was recorded in the fish having 23 cm total length and 125 g total body weight. The mortality rate of eggs and larvae was found to decrease with the increase of total length, standard length and total body weight of female brood following the equations, Y= 108.6–2.878X, r= –0.865, Y= 110.4–3.214X, r= –0.862 and Y= 54.99–0.108X, r= –0.970, respectively.The relationships between mortality rate of eggs and larvae with total length, standard length and total body weight of the fish were found to be linear and significant (p<0.01).

Fecundity, gonadosomatic index (GSI) and ova diameter of the cyprinid fish Kalibaush (Labeo calbasu,Ham.) were studied from a closed water hatchery pond, Faridpur district during April 2007 to March 2008. Fecundity of the fish ranged from 37454 to 427030 with an average 230242. The maximum fecundity was from a fish with total length of 51.3 cm and 1785 g in weight and minimum from a fish with a total length of 32.5 cm and 720 g in weight. The number of ova present per gram of body weight was 213.13 and the number of ova present per gram of ovary weight was 1359.17. It was observed that the fish spawned once in a year with one spawning peak in the month of July as indicated by the values of both ova diameter (1.3± 0.04) and gonadosomatic index (1.68± 0.11 and 18.58 ± 0.06) respectively. One female and 19 male Weddell seals, Leptonychotes weddellii, were injected with the emetic apomorphine hydrochloride. Fourteen of these were immobilised with combinations of ketamine hydrochloride and diazepam before the emetic was injected. One seal was administered the emetic tincture of ipecac while immobilised. The mean induction dose of ketamine hydrochloride was 7.99 � 1.99 mg kg-1 (mean�SD) and that of diazepam was 0.05 � 0.01 mg kg-1. The mean induction time was 23.07 � 17.63 min and the mean duration of immobilisation was 127.00 � 20.72 min. Six of the 22 seals apomorphine hydrochloride vomited and the seal given tincture of ipecac did not vomit. The mean dose of apomorphine hydrochloride that produced vomiting in immobilised animals was 0.18 � 0.10 mg kg-1 and the mean dose of apomorphine hydrochloride that produced vomiting in non-immobilised animals was 0.22 � 0.15 mg kg-1. Three seals died after drug administration during the study. Post-mortem examinations were conducted on these animals and nothing abnormal was found. Seals were weighed on 15 occasions (weight range, 137-402 kg) and the relationship between standard length (L, in centimetres) and body weight (W, in kilograms) was found to be: W=3.66L- 489.30. Food comprising five species of fish, two cephalopods and one gastropod were identified. Nematodes and gastroliths were present in most vomit samples. Centrally acting emetics and dissociative anaesthesia were both found to have limitations for use in Weddell seals.

Present paper attempts to describe length-weight (LW) and total length-standard length (TL and SL) total length and forkal length relationships of cold water fish Neolissochilus hexagonolepis. Fish of different length and weight were caught using cast net and scoop net at Mulghat vicinity, Dhankuta. The fish were kept in ice box in fresh condition and brought to fish laboratory, Department of Zoology, Post Graduate Campus, Biratnagar .The measurement of the fish samples was done with maximum accuracy. The data obtained from measurement were analysed using the formula W = aLb. The b values estimated for the total length and standard length in relation to body weight were 3.056 and 3.063, respectively. The values of b clearly indicate the isometric growth pattern.For total length, standard length and forkal length relationships, the linear values of b were 0.103 and -0.299. Investigation on the Reproductive Biology of Bagrus bayad in Jibiya Dam from Katsina State, Nigeria was carried out from July – December 2019 using standard procedures. One hundred and sixteen (116) samples of B. bayad were harvested and collected during the study period in order to determine sex ratio, fecundity and Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) of the fish species. Results indicated that the male:female sex ratio was 1.3:1 which was not significantly different from the hypothetical 1:1 (p>0.05). It was also found that the GSI of B. bayad was highest in July (0.23) and lowest in October (0.12). The relationship between fecundity and ovary weight was positively significant (p<0.05). Similarly, there was a significant positive relationship between fecundity and body weight as well as between ovary weight and age (p<0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between ovary weight and body weight, body weight and age and between fecundity and age (p>0.05). It is recommended that comparative study on the stages of maturity of male and female B. bayad in Jibiya Dam be investigated.

In comparison to other nations, the Nepalese information on the reproductive biology of hill-stream fish is limited. So, the purpose of the present study was to provide information related to reproductive biology of a hill-stream sucker throat catfish Pseudecheneis sulcata from the snow-fed Tamor River, Nepal. The study was carried out from June 2018 to May 2019.  A total of 57 female fish was collected. The fecundity of 22 females was assessed, while the gonadosomatic index was determined using all the collected samples. The absolute fecundity ranged from 2,316 to 7,597 eggs, with an average of 3,660 ± 210. This range of absolute fecundity indicates that Pseudecheneis sulcata is a moderately fecund fish when compared to certain low fecund species and some exceptionally fecund fish with tens of thousands of eggs. Relative fecundity ranged from 65.47 to 129.11 with a mean of 88.98 ± 4.35. The present study demonstrated that absolute fecundity was moderately correlated with total length (r = 0.45) and strongly linked with body weight (r = 0.78), and ovary weight (r = 0.80). Mean gonadosomatic index (GSI) was recorded the highest in January (15.7 ± 1.22%), and showed a decrease in the subsequent month of February (10.3 ± 0.75%), March (6.25 ± 0.28%) and April (1.66 ± 0.40%). The trends of GSI might have indicated that the sucker throat catfish was a batch spawner, with spawning season occuring between January and March.

Fecundity of guchibaim, Mastacembelus pancalus was described based on 100 samples collected from the experimental ponds of the Field Laboratory Complex, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from May to July 2007. The surveyed sample ranged from 115 to165mm in total length and 6.97±0.44 to 10.52±0.22g in average body weight. The ovary weight of the specimens varied from 0.77±2.61 to 5.19±0.29g. The fecundity was found to vary from 881.50±44.03 to 1182.30±27.33 eggs. The relationship between fecundity and total length was linear and it was expressed as: Y= 4.3927x+398.02 (R2=0.5336). The relationship between fecundity and body weight was linear and it was expressed as: Y= 67.319x+449.62 (R2=0.7446). The relationship between fecundity and ovary weight was also linear and it was expressed as: Y=72.36x+799.77 (R2=0.9189). The fecundity was highly correlated with the total length, body weight and ovary weight of fish and the Mastacembelus pancalus is a low fecund fish. SummaryThe absolute and relative growth of the liver, kidney, heart and lung-and-trachea were studied for 64 female, 64 castrated male and 64 intact male indigenous Nigerian pigs between birth and 672 days of age. Highly significant (P < 0·001) sex and age influences were obtained for the absolute and relative weights of the liver, kidney and heart. At 280 days of age, the four organs on average weighed 28 times their birth values; the terminal weights averaged 1·31 times their values at 280 days. Organ growth became stabilized after 280 days.The allometric equation: Y = aXb, transformed to its linear form log Y = log a + b log X, was employed to examine the relationship between organ weight and body weight. The growth coefficients 6 obtained ranged from 0·787 for kidney to 0·850 for lung-and-trachea and were similar to values reported in the literature. The accompanying highly significant R2 values strongly indicate that the functions of these organs are related to overall metabolism, which in turn is strongly dependent on body size.

Gonado-somatic index and fecundity are tools for measuring the sexual maturity and ability of animals to reproduce.  This study investigates the reproduction of Trichiurus lepturus. Specifically, this aimed to determine the sex ratio, the GSI, the relationship between fecundity and total length, fecundity and total weight, fecundity and ovary weight. The Descriptive Method of research was used.  Percentage and chi-square was utilized in determining the percentage of occurrence and sex ratio respectively.   Pearson r Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation was used to determine the relationships of the parameters. The study revealed that females outnumbered males and the sex ratio for different month showed significant difference.  Spawning season was observed to occur in November and December as revealed in its GSI values and it synchronized with the full and new moon phases.  Fecundity is positively correlated with body weight, body size, and ovary weight where ovary weight is observed to be the best index for fecundity.  The results of this study could be used further for formal stock assessment of cutlassfish fishery.
