Keywords: Gout - Diatesis urica, uric acid, purine bases. The problem of prevention and treatment of gout for middle- aged and elderly people is a life issue. The implementation of the disease development preventing strategy is possible with the timely and systematic use of preventive and therapeutic measures, gout acute attacks prevention and disability prevention. Rational measures are: systematic individual exercise therapy, the use of rhodonic, sulfuric, mineral alkaline- salt baths, paraffin and shungite applications, magnetotherapy with the “Vitma-1” apparatus according to a special technique, natural remedies in the form of phyto-assemblies, phyto- and homeopathic preparations, compresses with mummy and a specific diet. The use of these methods contributes to the restoration of bone tissue damaged cells, tendons, and internal organs.

Overweight and obesity are an increasingly common problem, not only among the healthy population, but also in adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). Excess body weight is related to many cardiometabolic complications as well as a high risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS). The purpose of this systematic review is to provide a concise and critical overview of the prevalence of MetS in children and adolescents with T1DM and, ultimately, to discuss prevention and treatment options. The study was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. This review shows that, apart from the growing percentage of overweight and obese children and adolescents with T1DM (on average 20.1% and 9.5%, respectively), the problem of the increasing incidence of MetS (range from 3.2 to 29.9%, depending on the criteria used) is one of the most important phenomena of our time. One of the methods of prevention and treatment is a combined approach: changing eating habits and lifestyle, but there are also reports about the beneficial effects of the gut microflora.

Systemic scleroderma is a chronic disease, the etiology of which is not fully understood. In systemic scleroderma, there is a diffuse change in the skin with the development of fibrosis, as well as with damage to internal organs (in particular, the esophagus, lower gastrointestinal tract, heart, liver and kidneys). The disease can proceed in a generalized and focal form; it is also possible to develop a variant of scleroderma without affecting the skin. A typical clinical picture of the disease is characterized by damage to the skin, the occurrence of multiple joint damage, the development of dysphagia, and the appearance of heartburn, general swelling and the formation of digital contractures. In women, the disease occurs 4 times more often than in men, while it is very rare in children. The onset of the disease is usually observed between the ages of 30 and 50. The diagnosis is established on the basis of the clinical picture, taking into account laboratory data. There is no specific treatment; therapeutic measures are usually aimed at combating complications.

Although the common cold, usually caused by human rhinoviruses, is responsible for enormous damage to the economy and health every year, there are hardly any treatment options or prophylaxis for rhinovirus infections. In this work, the potential of a hydrogel complex, based on polymers and an aqueous extract of Icelandic moss in isla® medic lozenges (Engelhard Arzneimittel, Niederdorfelden, Germany), and two other hydrogels (based on solely xanthan gum or sodium hyaluronate) are investigated for the first time in order to prevent and treat rhinovirus infections. By means of rheological investigations, we demonstrate that isla® medic and containing polymers cause artificial saliva to thicken. Additionally, we demonstrate that the thickening results in the formation of a physical diffusion barrier, which leads to a significant reduction in plaques in a preventive plaque assay with rhinovirus 14 (RV-14). Furthermore, it is shown in a curative plaque assay that the hydrogel complex also has a curative effect on rhinovirus infections in that it reduces the spread of the RV-14-infection on H1-HeLa cell monolayers. Overall, polymer-based hydrogels and related products, such as isla® medic, could contribute to the prevention and treatment of rhinovirus infections.

Micrococcus luteus is a representative of normal microflora of the human skin, which is commonly localized on open surfaces of the body. Dissemination of the agent with disease development is possible if intactness of the skin is impaired. Aim of the paper – to present a clinical case of septicemia caused by Micrococcus luteus.Results. A clinical case of septicemia, caused by Micrococcus luteus, in a 39-year-old patient treated in an inpatient department of Infectious Diseases Communal Clinical Hospital in Lviv. Conclusion. A presented clinical case demonstrates a severe course of septicemia caused by Micrococcus luteus with involvement of internal organs in the process, in particular, accompaniment of community-acquired left-sided pneumonia, exudative pleurisy, pericarditis, and meningitis. Although antibacterial therapy was prescribed to this patient on admission to an inpatient department, the result in treatment could be achieved only after thorough additional examination of the patient, conduction of proper bacteriological tests and determination of sensitivity of the agent to antibacterial medicines.

Systemic sclerosis is a collagen vascular disease which could lead to fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. It is characterized by a high disease burden and mortality. The 2013 classification criteria system helps to recognize the disease early, which allows prompt intervention and a better survival. In the past few year the recognition of the association between the presence of RNA polimerase III antibodies and malignancies was important. Treatment options of SSc have been improved. Early, intensive immunosuppressive treatment (cyclophosphamide, mycophenolate mofetil) of interstitial lung disease inhibits progression. There are several treatment modalities for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and digital ulcers (endothelin receptor antagonists, phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors, prostaglandin analogues). Antifibrotic drugs (nintedanib, riociguate) are also available among former immunosuppressive and vasoactive agents. Lenabasum is a new promising selective cannabinoid receptor 2 agonist, which inhibits inflammation and fibrosis. Localized scleroderma presents a diverse clinical picture. The disease leads to fibrosis of the skin but it is not accompanied with serious inner organ involvement typically seen in systemic sclerosis. Capillaroscopy abnormalities, sclerodactyly and SSc specific antibodies are absent in localized scleroderma . The 2017 EDF guideline formulates a very useful classification, checkup and treatment recommendations.
