The main problem of this study was “What are students of the Vocational School of Computer Networks need in learning English?” and “How is the development of supplementary English materials for reading skill?” The objective aimed at describing the development of supplementary reading materials for the tenth-grade vocational school based on the 2013 curriculum. The subject was the computer networks students in grade tenth in the 2015/2016 academic year consisting of twenty-two students (five males and 17 females). This research used R & D (Research and Development) method. The data were gathered from a number of sources, including students’ need analysis of English reading materials in grade X in the students’ book of 2013 curriculum, supplementary development of the English reading materials for computer networks students, and expert validation of supplementary English reading materials and students’ response after used the supplementary English materials. The findings showed that more than 30% of students were difficult to read the computer networks text and to understand the meaning of the text. The result of students’ book analysis was none of the reading materials appropriate for computer networks department, mostly provided General English. In developing the supplementary English reading materials for computer networks students, there were four stands, in which the current research only applied three out of the four stands, including define, design and developed. This supplementary English reading material helped the computer networks students to learn English based on their need.

This study concern on how reading text materials are developed for fashion design vocational school. The objectives of this research were: (1) to design English reading material for students in Fashion Design Program, (2) to develop English reading material for students in Fashion Design Program. This study was conducted by using developmental research (R & D). The subject of the research was grade twelve in SMK N 10 Medan consisting of 33 students. Instrumentation for collecting data was document, questionnaire, and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ need learning English based on their program in school. Based on the students’ need analysis, it was got some reading materials from the students’ book are not appropriate with the syllabus. Then, there is reading material that should develop based on their syllabus and their need. After the materials had been designed, the reading materials were done. The results show of the 84.1% from the Expert – lecturer and 92.1% from the Expert – English teacher, for the new reading material and the categorized is “relevant” as the reading material criteria. The developed teaching materials were related to the vocation that the students had; it was fashion design program. The development of materials followed six stages; those were gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new reading material, validating expert, revising new reading material from experts’ suggestion and developing reading material (final product). Keywords: Develop, Reading Text Materials, Fashion Design, Vocational School, Developmental Research

This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of vocational school, Al-WashliyahTeladan Medan, majoring Software Engineering. The objectives of this study were to: 1) find out language skill and materials are needed by the students of Software Engineering, 2) develop the English materials for the majoring in software engineering students at the vocational high school grade XII. This study was conducted by Educational Research and Development R&D (Borg & Gall, 1989). The data of this research were from existing documents and the result of interview with teacher and student. The results of the research conveyed that the existing reading materials were mostly irrelevant because the title and content of the material was not appropriate and was not required for the students majoring in software engineering. The new English reading materials and syllabus were developed based on the students need related to the workplace. The materials and syllabus were developed from the existing materials from teacher. The developing materials were validated by two experts.

The Subject

This study is aimed to develop English reading text materials about describing people, food and culinary spot based on students’ needs of Culinary Art. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D). The subject of this research was class X SMKN 10 Medan consisting of 32 students. The language skill was concerned on reading comprehension, particularly in descriptive text. Qualitative data consist of syllabus, lesson plan, and existing teaching materials. Instrumentation for collecting data were questionnaire, interview and existing materials. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ need in learning English in term of vocation that they have through questionnaire and interview. After the students’ need had been analyzed, the new reading materials was developed. The developed teaching materials were related to the vocation that the students had; it was culinary art. The development of materials followed six stages; those were gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new reading material, validating new reading material, revising new reading material, and final product revision. Based on the result of experts’ validation, the developing English reading text materials was equipped with adding one example in each exercise, adding the representative picture in each chapter and adding the generic structure of descriptive text on the reading text. Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that developing English reading text materials is appropriate (4.32 = 86.55%) to use by the students of Culinary Art.

This study concerns on how reading text are developed for vocational school. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) design. It was started from collecting the data, analyzing data, designing course grid, designing new reading material by using Scientific Approach, validating by experts, and revising for final product. The new reading material contained of five stages namely; observing, questioning, exploring, associating, and communicating. The source of data of this study was the grade X students of Computer Engineering and Networking Program at SMKS Taman Siswa Medan consisting 24 students. Instrument of collecting data were observation, questionnaire, and interview. After analyzing data, the researcher got the students’ need in learning English in term of vocation that they have. The interview and questionnaire result proved that the students need English reading materials which contain English for Computer Engineering and Networking program. The materials which were developed were focused on descriptive text. The product had been validated by the experts. The average scores are 3,4 both from English teacher and English lecturer. The Objective of this research were: (1) To develop ERM to meet the needs of second grade of dressmaking students at SMKN 10 Medan, (2) To Design ERM which is suitable to the needs of second grade of dressmaking students at SMKN 10 Medan. The subjects were the eleventh year students of dressmaking department at SMKN 10 Medan. The study was a Research and Development (R & D) study which is adapted from Borg and Gall (1983). This research were conducted by six phases, they are, Gathering information and data, Analyzing data, Designing new reading materials, Validating new reading materials, Revising new reading materials, Revised-developing reading materials. The Instruments for collecting the data were 30 questionarries need analysis and interview students, teacher and practitioner. The results from the data were the students need authentic material which related and appropriate to their need in order they can understand English well. The developed materials were validated by two experts, one is a lecture and the other is a teacher. The validator scored 4 creteria. The research findings showed that the developed materials were appropriate to be implemented. The average score of validation was 4,72 (lecture score) and 4,75 (teacher score). Based on the results of the study, conclusion and suggestions are directed to the teachers and institution who are teaching in SMKN 10 Medan generally to create and to develop the materials based on students need.Key words: English Reading Materials, Vocational High School Students,                  English for Specific Purpose

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui signifikansi hubungan antara perkembangan moral dengan perilaku prososial. Teknik sampling didalam penelitian ini menggunakan Teknik total sampling. Pengambilan datanya dengan cara langsung membagikan skala kepada semua siswa. Subyek penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak SMK Negeri 1 Tengaran Tahun Pelajaran 2019/2020 yang berjumlah 129 siswa. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif korelasional dengan teknik korelasi kendall tau b. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara perkembangan moral dengan perilaku prososial siswa kelas X Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak SMK Negeri 1 Tengaran Tahun Pelajaran 2019/2020 dengan koefisien korelasir = 0.291 dan p = 0.001 < 0.01. Dengan demikian hipotesis yang diajukan diterima. Hal ini berarti bahwa perkembangan moral memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan perilaku prososial siswa SMK Negeri 1 Tengaran. _________________________________________________________This study aims to determine the significance of the relationship between moral development and prosocial behavior. The subjects of this study were all grade X students of Software Engineering at State Vocational School 1 Tengaran in the 2019/2020 Academic Year totaling 129 students. This type of research is correlational research with the Kendall tau correlation technique b. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between moral development and prosocial behavior of the tenth grade students of Software Engineering at State Vocational High School 1 in 2019/2020 Academic Year with correlation coefficient = 0.291 and p = 0.001 <0.01. That is, the higher the level of moral development, the higher the level of prosocial behavior, or conversely the lower the level of moral development, the lower the level of social behavior.

The purpose of this study are to describe how to develop English reading materials for the second grade of Vocational High School and to explain the advantages and disadvantages of developing English reading materials for the second grade of vocational high school. Using English reading material for developing the students’ ability of the second grade of vocational high school is one of the ways to make the students interested in learning English. In teaching English reading materials, this paper applies two phases (planning phase, implementing phase, evaluating phase) and PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, Test) method. The advantages of developing English reading material for the second grade of vocational high school are: It can develop their vocabulary and grammar mastery. It is described that using reading materials in developing the students’ proficiency of English is very beneficial. The students get the systematic, effective, and efficient learning method, and also they can enjoy the teaching learning process. Encourage the student to improve their previous background knowledge of fundamental concepts. It can motivate the Students to actively reflect upon the material being studied prior to its presentation in class and to search for explanations or solutions on their own. While, the disadvantages are: It cannot develop the listening skill directly; It may happen that the students did not understand clearly about the generic structure and language feature of the text if they just pay attention with the meaning of each word. The writer hopes that this paper can be used as a reference for the teachers who want to improve their students’ ability, especially in reading ability. Vocational High School (SMK) Negeri 4 Kota Jambi is one of the favorite vocational schools in Jambi City which is also the only pure tourism vocational school in Jambi Province. SMK Negeri 4 Kota Jambi has several vocational majors, namely culinary, beauty, fashion and hospitality. In general, students who choose to attend vocational schools have the hope of being able to work immediately after graduating from school, they do not need to continue to study to be able to work. In this study, researchers will predict the level of acceptance of students from SMK Negeri 4 Kota Jambi in the business and industrial world using the Monte Carlo method. Monte Carlo is a method that can find values ​​that are close to the actual value of events that will occur based on the distribution of sampling data. The technique of this method is to select random numbers from the probability distribution to perform the simulation. The data used in this study is the data of students from SMK Negeri 4 Kota Jambi who worked from the 2015/2016 Academic Year to the 2018/2019 Academic Year. Furthermore, the data will be processed using the Monte Carlo method. The simulation will be implemented using PHP programming. The result of this research is the level of prediction accuracy of students of SMK Negeri 4 Kota Jambi who are accepted in the business and industrial world using the Monte Carlo method is 84%.

Language is the most important aspect in human interaction. People communicate and interact with other using the language. In global community, English has become an international language that is used by many people around the world. Reading is one of English language skills and it is one of the ways to learn English. Reading activity should get more attention. It is because there are many students who get some difficulties in understanding a text. In this research inform the using of talking stick in teaching reading. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was any significant difference in improvement the reading ability of recount text of the tenth grade students of SMK Rosma Karawang in academic year 2018/2019 by using talking stick method. The method used was quantitative method. In this research the writer used pre-experimental design of one group pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed by using paired sample test and processed by using SPSS 23 for windows. The results of the research showed there was significant increase of student’s reading ability.Keywords: Teaching, Reading, Talking Stick

This research aimed to develop appropriate English reading materials for grade eleventh students in SMK Farmasi-YPFSU Medan. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design by adapting Borg and Gall’s research theory (2003) through six steps, such as: (1) Gathering data and information, (2) Analyzing data, (3) Designing new materials, (4) Validating new materials by experts, (5) Revising, and (6) Final product. The data of this research were the existing reading materials and the results of need analysis. The sources of the data were the textbook, students and teacher. The class consisted of 30 grade eleventh students. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaire, interview, and documents. The questionnaire was analyzed as quantitative data and the interview result was analyzed as qualitative data. The questionnaire and interview was done to get the students’ need. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which cointain English for pharmacy program. Thus, developing English reading materials were procedure text. The developed procedure texts were related to the pharmacy program. The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4,03 from English Lecturer and 4,57 from English Teacher. It means the developing reading materials categorized as appropriate or relevant for the grade eleventh students in SMK Farmasi-YPFSU Medan.
