ABSTRACT In diabetics there is usually an increase in free fatty acids in the blood and increases the concentration of cholecerols and triglycerides, this condition is called diabetes dyshidemia. This study aimed to find out at the effect of bran milk treatment on the changes of the concetration of cholesterol and triglycerides in diabetetic white wistar rats. Conducted on May 15 until 15 August 2018. Experimental research pre-post test with control design. Subjects of twenty wistar white rats were made diabetic by injecting alloxan 140mg / kg. After being declared diabetic, the rats were divided into four groups, namely group 1 (negative control), group 2 (positive control), group 3 (bran milk 0.54g / 200 gr) and group 4 (bran milk 1.08g / 200gr). The intervention was given for fourteen days. The data analysis used the paired T-test to test the subject before and afterthe treatment and the One-Way ANOVA test was used to test the difference between the groups. The research results indicated that  the treatment with bran milk there were no significant differences in cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in the four groups. But when viewed from changes before and after the intervention showed that group 4 (bran milk 1.08g / 200gr) decreased cholesterol concentration and in group 3 (bran milk 0.54g / 200gr) a decrease in triglycerides was better than group 1 (control negative) and group 2 (positive control). It was concluded that the administration of bran milk can reduce the concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides in wistar diabetic white rats. Keywords : Bran milk, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Rats, Diabetic

Calcium silicate-based materials have been shown to be bioactive due to their ability to produce biologically compatible carbonated apatite. The objective of this study was to analyze the bioactivity of Biodentine ™ and MTA Repair HP® in contact with human dentine discs, which were sealed and divided randomly to form four groups: group 1 Biodentine™, group 2 MTA Repair HP®, positive control group MTA Angelus® and negative control group IRM®, which were incubated in PBS solution for 10 days, for a subsequent analysis by means of MEB-EDS and Raman spectroscopy. The three calcium-based materials analyzed in this study proved to be bioactive because upon contact with a phosphate-based solution they were triggered at the onset of amorphous calcium phosphate, as the precursor during the formation of carbonated apatite.

The leaf, stem and bark of Eucalyptus citriodora are combined for use in the treatment of malaria in Anyigba, North Central, Nigeria. However, no scientific investigations have been carried out to know the effect of this plant on biochemical parameters of experimental mice. Thus, this study evaluated the biochemical parameters of mice infected with Plasmodium berghei after the administration of ethanolic leaf extract of E citriodora. Twenty-four (24) mice of body weights between 18-25 g were grouped into six groups. Group 1, infected but not treated (negative control), group 2, infected and administered with 0.2 mg/kg of chloroquine (positive control), group 3, not infected, but administered with 0.2 ml of normal saline (normal control), while the remaining three (3) groups were infected and treated with 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight of the extract respectfully. The pack cell volume (PCV) was assessed before and after infection and treatment using standard procedure. The mice were sacrificed on the sixth day and blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis using standard methods. The PCV in mice of all groups decrease significantly (p<0.05), except group 3 (normal control) that increased. The alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), total bilirubin level was higher in negative control (group 1) than in all other groups studied, but it was higher in the group treated with 200 mg/kg bd wt of the extract than in the positive control and the groups treated with 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight of the extract. A similar trend was observed in the levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipolipid (HDL) and low density lipolipid (LDL). The level of creatinine, blood urea and nitrogen were observed to be low in groups 1 and 2, compared to other groups. This study revealed that E. citriodora ethanolic leaf extract does not exact toxic effect on the internal organs like liver, kidney and heart.

Apium graviolens L. is a medicinal plant that is useful for treating gout. Flavonoids are components of chemical compounds found in celery because they can work as antioxidants and inhibit the action of the xanthine oxidase enzyme to form uric acid. This study aims to determine the effect of giving celery herb powder on the blood serum uric acid levels of hyperuricemia male leghorn chickens. This study used twenty-five male leghorn chickens which were randomly divided into 5 groups. All groups were made hyperuricemia by being given 100% chicken liver juice 5 mL/l kg BW once a day orally during treatment. Group 1 was given 0.5% CMC suspension solution as a negative control group. Group 2 was treated with allopurinol 14 mg/1.5 kg BW in CMC 0.5% as a positive control. Groups 3, 4, 5 received infusion of celery herb powder in the order of doses (0.6 g/1.5 kg BW), (1.2 g/1.5 kg BW), (1.8 g/1.5 kg BW). Examination of uric acid levels was carried out on days 0, 4, 8, 12. The results showed that steeping celery could reduce uric acid levels in proportion to the dose. The greater the dose given, the greater the decrease in uric acid levels. The dose of celery herb group 3 (1.8 g/1.5 kg BW) was the most effective doses because it had the same value as the positive control.

The purpose of this study was to develop a mouse model of asthma (MMA) using house dust mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p) extract. Methods. BALB/c mice were i.p. immunized with different doses of Der p lyophilized extract three times in three week interval in the mixture with Al(OH)3. 8 weeks after the final immunization mice were challenged with Der p during five consecutive days by intranasal applications (INA) or aerosol administration (AA). All mice were divided into 5 experimental groups: group 1 was immunized with 50 ^g/mouse of Der p (in protein equivalent) in the mixture with 2 mg/mouse Al(OH)3 and challenged by INA; group 2 was immunized in the same way and challenged by AA; group 3 was immunized with 100 ^g/mouse Der p in the mixture with 2 mg/mouse of Al(OH)3 and challenged by INA; group was immunized in the same way and challenged by AA; group 5 (negative control) was immunized and challenged with saline. 24 hours after the last challenge airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) to different concentrations of metha-choline was evaluated in all groups by whole-body plethysmography. 48 hours after the last challenge in all groups blood was collected for differential cell count, brochoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was sampled for the determination of inflammatory cells and lungs were removed for histological analysis. Histopathological changes in lungs (allergic inflammation) were graded according to semi-quantitative scoring system. Anti-Der p IgE, IgG1 and IgG2a antibodies in individual sera samples were detected by ELISA seven days after the last immunization and 48 hours after the challenge. Results. The levels of anti-Der p IgE antibodies in groups 1-4 before as well as after the challenge were substantially higher than that of in the group 5 (negative control). The highest level of serum Der p-specific IgE antibodies was observed in the group 2. The levels of anti-Der p IgG1 and IgG2a antibodies in the groups 1-4 during all periods of observation were higher than that of group 5 (negative control). At the same time the maximal levels of anti-Der p IgG1 and IgG2a antibodies were observed in group 3 both after immunization and after challenge. The maximum of AHR was observed in the groups 1 and 3 challenged by INA. Analysis of cell composition in BALF demonstrated significant elevated number of eosinophils in group 3 in comparison with group 5 (negative control) and other experimental groups. Regarding peripheral blood leukocyte count we observed decreasing of band neutrophils in group 4 and increasing of segmented neutrophils in groups 1 and 3 in compare to group 5 (negative control). In group 1 we found statistically significant decreasing of lymphocytes and increasing of eosinophils in compare to negative control group 5. Histological picture of general allergic inflammation in lungs as well as peribronchial and perivascular infiltration with inflammatory cells were the most noticeable (according to score system) in group 3 in comparison with negative control group and other experimental groups. Conclusion. Data obtained indicate that immunization (sensitization) of mice with Der p in a dose 100 μg/mouse together with Al(OH)3 and challenge with Der p by mean of intranasal applications is a suitable approach for modeling of mouse allergic asthma.

Objectives: Evaluate the effects of "XGTQ" in the treatment of cirrhosis induced by Carbon tetrachloride (CCL4) in combination with alcohol and high-fat diet on Wistar rats. Materials and methods: Cirrhosis on white rats was induced by subcutaneously injecting CC14 at an initial dose of 5,0ml/kg, followed by 1,2ml/kg once a week in 10 weeks. Then, fed with synthetic food, added 20% fat, and 0.05% cholesterol and iron oxalate. Rats were administered every day with plain water and 1 day with water mixed with 30% ethanol. The rats were randomly divided into 5 groups and given distilled water (group 1 and 2 or control group), silymarin (group 3 or reference group) or the "XGTQ" drug extract (group 4, 5) for 4 weeks. Collected blood for biochemical test and liver were dissected to evaluate weight, morphology and quantified 4-hydroxyproline to evaluate fibrosis and collagen accumulation. Results: In cirrhotic wistar rats, "XGTQ" drug at 19.6 g/kg/24h and 58.8 g/kg/24h showed the ability of reducing the activity of enzymes AST, ALT in the blood (p<0.01), increasing plasma albumin and decreasing prothrobin time (p<.05); improving physical condition, macroscopic and microscopic images of H&E-stained liver; decreasing the concentration of hydroxyproline in the liver and reducing the level of cirrhosis on the masson-stained templates. The effects of "XGTQ" increased with the dose, and was equivalent to silymarin at the dose of 70 mg/kg/24h. Conclusion: The extract of "XGTQ" drug is effective in treating cirrhosis in Wistar rats.

The aim of this study was to compare the vertical fracture resistance of roots obturated with different root canal filling materials and sealers. Crowns of 55 extracted mandibular premolar teeth were removed to provide root lengths of 13 mm. Five roots were saved as negative control group (canals unprepared and unfilled). Fifty root canals were instrumented and then five roots were saved as positive control group (canals prepared but unfilled). The remaining 45 roots were randomly divided into three experimental groups (n=15root/group) and obturated with the following procedures: in group 1, glass ionomer-based sealer and cone (ActiV GP obturation system); in group 2, bioceramic sealer and cone (EndoSequence BC obturation system); and in group 3, roots were filled with bioceramic sealer and cone (Smartpaste bio obturation system). All specimens were tested in a universal testing machine for measuring fracture resistance. For each root, the force at the time of fracture was recorded in Newtons. The statistical analysis was performed by using Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc test. There were no significant differences between the three experimental groups. The fracture values of three experimental and negative control groups were significantly higher than the positive control group. Within the limitations of this study, all materials increased the fracture resistance of instrumented roots.

In medical sciences, toxicity is an area wherein extensive studies have been carried to improve the diseases as well as to prevent. So, there is a high requirement for novel and improved alternative therapeutic strategies to manage diseases. The liver is the largest gland in the body, which executes several important mechanisms; it stores minerals and vitamins and releases them in periods of need. The main aim of this study was to give a closer insight into potent non- toxic compounds that is capable of modifying the responses. Animals were divided into five equal groups viz control (Group 1), administered with food and water ad libitum, (Group 2) administered with olive oil, (Group 3) administered with zingerone, (Group 4) administered with concanavalin A, (Group 5) administered with cyclosporine A followed by zingerone. Our results revealed significant changes in liver marker enzymes and liver histology of zingerone treated rats when compared to control rats.  A corollary, zingerone has no toxic effect on hepatocytes and was found to be safe at a dose of 10mg/kg b wt and also ameliorates hepatotoxicity.
