Inflammatory odontogenic cysts are benign osteolytic asymptomatic lesions, but that, depending on the size, they can destroy the surrounding bone and let it infected. The term residual cyst is used most often for retained radicular cyst from teeth that has been removed. Residual cysts are among most common cysts of the jaws. This article aims to report characteristics and main aspects and highlighting the importance of the differential diagnosis for the treatment of these lesions. It can be concluded that early detection and accurate diagnosis are essential for the proper treatment of the residual cysts. Key Words- Residual cyst, radicular cyst, enucleation

Kabuki Syndrome is rare and poorly documented, initially mentioned by Niikawa and Kuroki in 1981. The prevalence of the syndrome among live births is 1:32,000. Case reports are now available, which correlates to improved techniques for accurate diagnosis. This study focused on a systematic comparative review of the phenotypes of individuals with Kabuki Syndrome, with the purpose to facilitate diagnosis. The systematic review was done with a bibliographic survey of case studies using the following databases: Pubmed, Science Direct and Google Scholar, in conjunction with the following key-words: Kabuki syndrome, phenotype, KMT2D and case report. The literature shows that patients with this syndrome present five main characteristics, besides several types of secondary phenotypes. These characteristics present variations in permeability as well as expressivity of some genes in individuals, therefore, a characterization through phenotype alone becomes limited, making it necessary to perform genetic analysis for differential diagnosis. In order to increase the knowledge and elucidate mechanisms of Kabuki syndrome, we suggest further studies that utilize animal models.

Aim The purpose of this report is to present a case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) arising from a mandibular residual cyst. Background Although rare, SCC may arise in the epithelial lining of odontogenic cysts. The diagnosis of the development of carcinoma from the cyst lining can only be established by histopatologic examination. Report A case of SCC arising from a mandibular residual cyst in a 55-year-old man is presented along with a discussion of the critical elements needed for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Summary The development of SCC from residual cysts is rare but should always be considered in the differential diagnosis. This case report clearly demonstrates the importance of clinician awareness of the malignant potential of apparently innocuous cystic lesions. It also underscores the importance of a careful histological examination and the necessity of obtaining biopsy materials from various areas to prevent a misdiagnosis of large-sized cysts. Imerslund-Grasbeck syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disorder due to selective malabsorption of Vitamin B12 at the level of cobalamin-intrinsic factor receptor mutation in the terminal ileum resulting in megaloblastic anaemia with proteinuria. Early detection of this rare disorder would enable screening and genetic counselling for asymptomatic family members. ABSTRACT Asymmetrical swelling of the mandible in adolescence may pose a significant diagnostic dilemma. The differential diagnosis ranges from traumatic, infectious, and metabolic processes to benign and malignant tumors. Also may present with similar clinical and radiological features, making an accurate diagnosis quite difficult. This is an illustrative case involving a 30-year-old female who initially presented with complaint of pain and swelling in the lower left side of the face for 2 months. Multiple investigations and several biopsies were required to arrive at a diagnosis. This paper deals with a case report of a fibrosarcoma involving the mandible highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment planning. SummaryBackground/Aim:Residual cysts comprise approximately 10% of all odontogenic cysts. They are more commonly seen in 4th-6th decades of life, and occur due to incomplete previous surgical removal of a radicular cyst; or due to left epithelial remnants stimulated by tooth extraction. These lesions are often treated with enucleation. However, this procedure is not always the ideal treatment solution for elderly people due to the presence of physical and mental disorders, and risk of jaw fracture.Case Report: In this case report, the successful treatment of a large residual cyst in the symphysis of a 93 year-old female patient by performing decompression alone is presented. A plastic drain was placed on the wall of the cyst to allow irrigation. Regeneration was observed in the cyst cavity 3 months after surgery. The 1-year follow up showed that the majority of the cyst cavity was filled with new bone. Conclusions: In elderly patients, large inflammatory cysts can be successfully treated with decompression considering the limited regeneration capacity and difficulties in follow-up.

Twelfth rib syndrome is a rare condition that causes severe pain in the loin. The diagnosis of this phenomenon is based on the patient’s medical history and physical examination findings. However, many clinicians still lack an understanding of the disease; this delays an accurate diagnosis, causing patients to experience prolonged pain without proper treatment. We herein describe a 72-year-old woman and a 47-year-old woman with loin pain. They had undergone various imaging tests, but the cause of the pain remained unknown. Their pain was reproduced by the hooking maneuver, and twelfth rib syndrome was diagnosed. Both patients were immediately relieved of pain after a twelfth intercostal nerve block. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are needed for pain relief in patients with twelfth rib syndrome.

Its excision, when properly indicated, is necessary due to the possibility of reaching large proportions destroying the surrounding bone tissue, besides being a focus for the development of infectious processes. The cystic enucleation technique with retrograde endodontic treatment allows the lesion to be removed while preserving the involved dental elements. This paper aims to report and to discuss the case report conducted at the Clinics of Minor Oral Surgery and Endodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Fluminense Federal University (UFF). The histopathological examination, performed at the Associated Laboratory of Clinical Research in Dentistry of UFF, confirmed the initial diagnostic suspicion of root cyst. We conclude that the treatment of the inflammatory root cyst is quite predictable when preceded by a thorough preoperative clinical approach. The therapeutic approach adopted for this case was correct and led the patient to cure and was discharged after two years of follow-up.Keywords: Paraendodontic Surgery. Radicular Cyst. Apicoectomy. Primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis, defined as an isolated tuberculosis infection of the nasopharynx without systemic or pulmonary disease, is rare, even in areas endemic for tuberculosis. It is challenging for ENT specialists to diagnose primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis at an early stage. In this report, we describe a new case of primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis, focusing on its nasopharyngoscopic features and radiological findings that can help the understanding and aid in accurate diagnosis of this unusual disease entity. Our experience suggests that although primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is a relatively rare disease, it must be included in the differential diagnosis of various nasopharyngeal lesions, particularly in patients with unusual nasopharyngoscopic and computed tomography findings.

Childhood sarcoidosis is an uncommon disease and recognition of this disease in children is often delayed because of the lack of awareness and unfamiliarity with its clinical features. With the aim of providing clues for diagnosis and treatment of disease, we reported a a 23-month-old boy hospitalized for multiple pinkish papules  and painless cystic swellings in ankles and wrists, diagnosed with sarcoidosis, treated with corticosteroid and well recovered. This case reminds us to include childhood sarcoidosis in the differential diagnosis in pediatric patients who present with multiple papular eruptions along with systemic manifestations. It is characterized by arthritis, uveitis, and cutaneous involvement. The prognosis of early-onset childhood sarcoidosis varies in different studies due to the rarity of the disease. The treatment of choice in systemic involvement of childhood sarcoidosis is corticosteroids. Key words: sarcoidosis in children, childhood sarcoidosis, granulomatous disorder, arthritis, uveitis.
