The paper aims to single out critical success factors contributing to efficient implementation of distance learning practices and to explain the role of project-based learning in ensuring effective teaching of profession-oriented foreign language in a distance format. The authors argue in favor of distance learning as a beneficial educational tool providing for the training of large groups of people regardless of the place of residence and placing a priority on students’ individual capacities. Study design included a preliminary survey of 150 respondents specializing in the natural sciences and the humanities identifying the key analysis criteria, a complex of experimental online lessons incorporating project-based teaching principles, and a summarizing questionnaire verifying respondents’ post-experiment outlooks. The methodology of empirical research was based on a systematic approach and deployed the methods of pedagogical observation, project-based teaching, sociological research, and statistical analysis using Neural Designer software for calculating questionnaire results. Analyzing the obtained results, the authors conclude that: 1) Students specializing in the humanities have a higher motivation to study related minor subjects; 2) interdisciplinary integration using the English language allows to achieve a cumulative effect for major and related minor subjects; 3) interdisciplinary integration based on the project method is an effective means of improving academic performance in major subjects; 4) interdisciplinary integration based on the project method makes it possible to acquaint students with the best practices in their chosen specialty; 5) project method allows to achieve related didactic goals—self-expression, independent continuous learning and the formation of professional competencies.

Distance learning has evolved a lot since the moment students received materials by mail and as regular correspondence. At that time, students worked already at their own pace and concluded training according to their professional work and agenda. Today, although courses by correspondence still exist, they are being quickly replaced by distance learning. And the success of this format of education are at the basis of the emergence of different offers and new business models. The success of adoption of technology depends on several factors related with the organization where it is implemented and with the individuals involved. In this paper, the authors will present a case, the evolution of the solutions offered concerning distance learning in the school under study, the actual offers and the concerns for the future. The authors will identify the factors that enabled or constrained this evolution. They will also raise some questions that are still unanswered and will point out some clues for future research.

The adoption of technology may be a necessary condition, but it is not sufficient for the digital transformation, seen as the mobilizing challenge to do something new and different. Without a strategic vision, we take the risk of acquiring resources to do the same as before, essentially changing the format. This inability imprisons the school to inconsequential models, resources and strategies. Interdisciplinary, social and project-based learning that augmented and virtual reality, internet of things, robots, and artificial intelligence and digital assistants can bring to teaching, where are they? But also mobile, games, simulators and multimedia can influence the routine by inspiring collaborative creativity. On the other hand, the pandemic, in terms of the adoption of technology, constitutes a kind of insurrection against the fatalism that it is not possible to restart the system, that is, rethink the school. This study aims to investigate the degree of acceptance and use of technology by teachers in middle school and high school education and their approaches in the classroom. As a methodological support to this study, the model “Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology” (UTAUT)) was used and a questionnaire applied to teachers at our school, ob-taining 90 responses. The investigation revealed that the performance expectancy and the ICT compatibility have a greater significant positive influence on the motivation and involvement of teachers. The study also clarifies that teachers intend to use ICT and that they see in them a different di-dactic tool that allows different approaches, thus increasing the quality of teaching and learning.

Abstract: Critical Success Factors (CSF) identify key areas for a company to succeed. This study creates a model to analyze CSF in civil construction project management, using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). For that, a literature review was performed to identify CSF emphasizing project management. Once the CSF were identified, a questionnaire was sent to educational institutions to evaluate the effect of each factor. Response analysis was made by the Relative Importance Index, using ANN coupled with the resilient propagation algorithm to evaluate the CSF. A total of 37,822 articles were found in 2,328 journals. Of 874 e-mails sent, 191 were answered. The respondents were distributed in 26 Brazilian states, with 70% of them being professors/researchers, 26% coordinators, 2% Rector, and 1% Director/Manager. Weights were determined using the Garson algorithm. The most critical factor in project management was ‘Unrealistic inspection and test methods in the contract’. Artificial Neural Networks produce subsidies to know the relevance of the input variables adopted and constitute an effective means for modeling nonlinear variables.

Culture-led regeneration projects (CRPs) have been identified as an effective means for enhancing the sustainable development of cities. Related topics have been investigated; however, relatively little information is known about what factors are critical for achieving success in these kinds of regeneration projects. Based on a literature review and five case studies, this study contributes to the body of knowledge by identifying 25 critical success factors (CSFs) for managing CRPs in China. A questionnaire survey was designed to evaluate the relative importance of these factors from practitioners’ and researchers’ perspectives. In addition, a factor analysis was carried out to group these CSFs into five categories, namely government policies and culture-led regeneration strategies, stakeholder management and financing support, technical solutions for CRPs, social security, and industry development. The results demonstrated that cultural value management, integrating cultural development with urban planning, adopting sustainable development principles, reconstructing the city image and brand, and the availability of culture-led planning methods played the most important roles in the success of CRPs. The findings of this study can help practitioners enhance their regeneration project performance.

Knowledge management (KM), as a new field having many concepts and strong conceptualization, is a vital business process in organizations that, because of the nature of knowledge, is closely linked to individuals. Because sociological research is mainly qualitative and KM contains sociological components, KM can take advantage of methods such as grounded theory (GT) approach that are specific to qualitative research. Accordingly, the chapter provides an understanding of the use of GT in KM. For this purpose, the chapter focuses on understanding process of transforming knowledge into wisdom, presenting KM model, determining factors of knowledge sharing, and consequently, developing a framework of knowledge sharing and determining the critical success factors (CSFs) of KM and their relationships within a model.
