Target leaf spot (TLS), caused by Corynespora cassiicola, is an emerging and high-incidence disease that has spread rapidly on the global scale. Aerospores released by infected plants play a significant role in the epidemiology of cucumber TLS disease; however, no data exist concerning the infectiousness and particle size of C. cassiicola aerospores, and the experimental evidence for the aerospores transmission was lacking. In the present study, highly effective approaches to collect and quantify aerospores were developed for exposure chamber and greenhouse studies. Quantifiable levels of C. cassiicola aerospores were detected in 27 air samples from nine naturally infested greenhouses, ranging from 198 to 5,969 spores/m3. The C. cassiicola strains isolated from air samples were infective to healthy cucumber plants. Exposure chambers were constructed to study the characteristics of C. cassiicola aerospores released by artificially infested cucumber plants. The particle size of C. cassiicola ranged predominately from 2.1 to 4.7 μm, accounting for 71.97% of the total amount. In addition, the transmission dynamics of C. cassiicola aerospores from donor cucumber plants to recipient cucumber plants were confirmed in exposure chambers and greenhouses. The concentration of C. cassiicola aerospores was positively associated with cucumber TLS disease severity. This study suggested that aerospore dispersal is an important route for the epidemiology of plant fungal disease, and these data will contribute to the development of new strategies for the effective alleviation and control of plant diseases.

An outpatient examination of 530 employees engaged in work with chemical weapons related to organophosphorus compounds at chemically hazardous facilities was carried out. Risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases of atherogenic etiology among personnel of the facilities were studied in relation to the type of work performed using statistical analysis methods. The UK’s COVID-19 epidemic during early 2020 was one of world’s largest and unusually well represented by virus genomic sampling. Here we reveal the fine-scale genetic lineage structure of this epidemic through analysis of 50,887 SARS-CoV-2 genomes, including 26,181 from the UK sampled throughout the country’s first wave of infection. Using large-scale phylogenetic analyses, combined with epidemiological and travel data, we quantify the size, spatio-temporal origins and persistence of genetically-distinct UK transmission lineages. Rapid fluctuations in virus importation rates resulted in >1000 lineages; those introduced prior to national lockdown tended to be larger and more dispersed. Lineage importation and regional lineage diversity declined after lockdown, while lineage elimination was size-dependent. We discuss the implications of our genetic perspective on transmission dynamics for COVID-19 epidemiology and control.

Abstract Thermodynamic analysis of the precipitation behavior, growth kinetic, and control mechanism of MnS inclusion in U75V heavy rail steel was conducted in this study. The results showed that solute element S had a much higher segregation ratio than that of Mn, and MnS would only precipitate in the solid–liquid (two-phase) regions at the late stage during the solidification process at the solid fraction of 0.9518. Increasing the cooling rate had no obvious influence on the precipitation time of MnS inclusion; however, its particle size would be decreased greatly. The results also suggested that increasing the concentration of Mn would lead to an earlier precipitation time of MnS, while it had little effect on the final particle size; as to S, it was found that increasing its concentration could not only make the precipitation time earlier but also make the particle size larger. Adding a certain amount of Ti additive could improve the mechanical properties of U75V heavy rail steel due to the formation of TiO x –MnS or MnS–TiS complex inclusions. The precipitation sequences of Ti3O5 → Ti2O3 → TiO2 → TiO → MnS → TiS for Ti treatment were determined based on the thermodynamic calculation.

Corona virus is a virus that attacks the respiratory system. The high incidence of Covid-19 is due to low public awareness of applying health protocols. So the need for prevention and control efforts by complying with health protocols to wear masks, keep your distance and wash your hands properly. Washing hands is an easy routine and is important in infection control, and is the best method to prevent the transmission of microorganisms. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nurse education on the accuracy of the patient's family through hand washing in preventing Covid-19 transmission at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. This research uses quantitative research with a quasi experimental design, with a population of 20 people. Data collection tools used observation sheets and data analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate with the Wilcoxson test. The results of this study show that the average value before being given education about hand washing is low compared to the average value after being given education about hand washing. So that hand washing education is effective in increasing hand washing to prevent Covid-19 transmission with a p-value of 0.000. The results of this study are expected to be a source of information and knowledge for the nursing profession regarding the effect of providing nurse education on the accuracy of the patient's family in washing hands.

Exchange, transport and import of crime policies takes place on a global scale. New strategies of crime prevention, models of institutions and interventions rapidly spread around the globe. Knowledge is increasingly shared among the `epistemic communities' of criminologists, and criminal justice and policing experts and practitioners. Notwithstanding the global scale of exchange, criminal justice systems and policies are definitely local, and embedded in traditions, culture and the particular institutional regimes of national states. This article explores how crime policies travel within a globalized world of nonetheless local legal and institutional cultures, and how we can conceptualize the routes of travelling they take. The article starts by analysing what exactly travels when crime policies are `en route'. Next, overarching concepts and convergence theories, which have played such a decisive role in analysing the globalization of crime policies are discussed. These are contrasted with loosely coupled concepts like actors, mechanisms and principles, following suggestions by Braithwaite and Drahos (2000). `Modelling' seems to be a mechanism that is most useful in describing present exchange and transport of crime polices.

Geographical mapping of infectious diseases is an important tool for detecting and characterising outbreaks. Two common mapping methods, dot maps and incidence maps, have important shortcomings. The former does not represent population density and can compromise case privacy, and the latter relies on pre-defined administrative boundaries. We propose a method that overcomes these limitations: dot map cartograms. These create a point pattern of cases while reshaping spatial units, such that spatial area becomes proportional to population size. We compared these dot map cartograms with standard dot maps and incidence maps on four criteria, using two example datasets. Dot map cartograms were able to illustrate both incidence and absolute numbers of cases (criterion 1): they revealed potential source locations (Q fever, the Netherlands) and clusters with high incidence (pertussis, Germany). Unlike incidence maps, they were insensitive to choices regarding spatial scale (criterion 2). Dot map cartograms ensured the privacy of cases (criterion 3) by spatial distortion; however, this occurred at the expense of recognition of locations (criterion 4). We demonstrate that dot map cartograms are a valuable method for detection and visualisation of infectious disease outbreaks, which facilitates informed and appropriate actions by public health professionals, to investigate and control outbreaks.

Agricultural productivity is an important factor in a country's economic development. Therefore, the diagnosis of plant diseases is a field of research of great importance for the agricultural sector since it allows us to help recommend strategies to prevent the spread of diseases, thus reducing economic losses. Currently, with the rise of computer systems, computer systems have been developed that allow computer assisted diagnosis in different fields of research, including the agricultural sector. Since late blight is one of the main diseases due to its high incidence and severity, this paper proposes a methodology to obtain late blight segmentation in tomato leaf images through image analysis and color analysis using the HSV color model. The proposed methodology was applied to a set of publicly available PlantVillage images, to which late blight segmentation was obtained.
