A new construct, termed music receptivity, is introduced and discussed in this work. Music receptivity can be defined as a measure of the extent of internalization that an individual has, to a given piece of music, as measured at the point of listening. Through three studies, we demonstrate the psychometric properties of the construct—the Music Receptivity Scale (MRS). Exploratory factor analysis on a sample of 313 revealed good psychometric validity, with a four-factor solution (emotional experience, interest, attention, and hurdles), with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89, and a two-factor solution (emotion experience and attention), with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.87. The tool also had a good test–retest reliability (r = 0.87 for a 15 day interval and r = 0.91 for 1 month interval). Overall, the tool had 20 items in the long form and 12 items in the short version. The MRS could distinguish musicians and non-musicians supporting its discriminant validity. We have also discussed the implication of the MRS in the field of music psychology.

Abstract Background Given the importance of the childbirth experience, its effects on women’s life and society, and the need for its assessment by accurate instruments, this study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the Questionnaire for Assessing the Childbirth Experience (QACE) in an Iranian women population. Methods The validity of the Farsi edition of the questionnaire was assessed using the opinions of eight experts. Its construct validity was assessed by studying 530 mothers, at 1–4-month postpartum, who delivered in health centers of Tabriz, Iran. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed to identify its factors. Then, the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed for the structural assessment of the extracted factors. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to investigate the correlation between factors. Cronbach’s alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used to obtain the internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Results In total, four factors were extracted from the EFA: “relationship with staff” (4 questions), “first moments with the newborn” (3 questions), “feelings at one-month postpartum” (3 questions), and “emotional status” (3 questions). According to the CFA, the model achieved desired fit level (RMSEA < 0.08, GFI, CFI, IFI > 0.90, and x2/df < 5.0). Cronbach’s alpha (0.77–0.82) and intraclass correlation coefficient index (0.83–0.98) were desirable for all factors. Conclusion The short edition of the QACE, as a standard tool, can be used by future studies to measure the experience of Iranian women.

OBJECTIVES Translate and culturally adapt the short version of Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire II (COPSOQ II) into Brazilian Portuguese (COPSOQ II-Br) and evaluate its psychometric properties. METHODS Translation and cultural adaptation followed the standardized guidelines. Structural validity was assessed using exploratory factorial analysis. Test-retest reliability was evaluated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC3,1) and internal consistency by Cronbach’s alpha. Floor and ceiling effect was considered acceptable if less than 15% of participants reported the lowest or highest scores. Measurement error was assessed by standard error of measurement (SEM), while construct validity was tested by correlating the COPSOQ II-Br, the Job Content Questionnaire and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. RESULTS The study evaluated a total of 211 civil servants and service providers in the test and 157 in the retest. After cross-cultural adaptation, the COPSOQ II-Br structure comprised seven domains and 11 dimensions. Most dimensions showed acceptable floor and ceiling effects, excepting “Work family conflicts” (floor effect of 26.1%), and “Meaning and commitment” and “Job satisfaction,” with ceiling floor of 27.5% and 22.3%, respectively. Cronbach’s alpha values reached the recommended levels (varied between 0.70 and 0.87). Test-retest reliability indicated that all dimensions had ICC between 0.71 and 0.81. SEM ranged from 0.6 to 2.2 and the construct validity showed good results with the tested instruments (significant positive and negative correlations). CONCLUSIONS All psychometric properties of the short version COPSOQ II-Br are suitable for use in Brazil. The instrument is thus validated and can be used by occupational health and human resources professionals to evaluate psychosocial working conditions.

Catastrophising is a cognitive process that can be defined as predicting the worst possible outcome. It has been shown to be related to psychiatric diagnoses such as depression and anxiety, yet there are no self-report questionnaires specifically measuring it outside the context of pain research. Here, we therefore develop a novel, comprehensive self-report measure of general catastrophising. We performed five online studies (total n=734), in which we created and refined a Catastrophising Questionnaire, and used a factor analytic approach to understand its underlying structure. We also assessed convergent and discriminant validity, and analysed test-retest reliability. Furthermore, we tested the ability of Catastrophising Questionnaire scores to predict relevant clinical variables over and above other questionnaires. Finally, we also developed a four-item short version of this questionnaire. We found that our questionnaire is best fit by a single underlying factor, and shows convergent and discriminant validity. Exploratory factor analyses indicated that catastrophising is independent from other related constructs, including anxiety and worry. Moreover, we demonstrate incremental validity for this questionnaire in predicting diagnostic and medication status. Finally, we demonstrate that our Catastrophising Questionnaire has good test-retest reliability (Intra-Class-Correlation Coefficient=0.77, p&lt;.001). Critically, we can now, for the first time, obtain detailed self-report data on catastrophising.

The aim of this study was to carry out the adaption of the Latvian version of the Emotion Regulation Skills Questionnaire (ERSQ-27)(SEK-27, Berking Znoj, 2008) for adults witch evaluates nine dimensions of emotion regulation skills. The questionnaire was completed by 376 adults (82% women and 18% men), aged 18 – 69 years (M = 31.2, SD = 12.99). The calculations for the adapted questionnaire were made for the Cronbach’s alpha, test-retest reliability and determination of the convergent and factorial validity. The five-factor solution proposed by the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was tested and compared with the theoretically postulated nine-factor solution using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The nine-factor model results in the Latvian version questionnaire explain 72% of varienace, but five-factors – 59.76%. The results for EFA and CFA were both higher in the nine-factor model. The internal consistency coefficients (Cronbach’s alpha) of the scales varied from 0.64 to 0.82, test-retest correlations ranged between 0.82 – 0.94. Similar results of the factor analysis were found in other research studies. Findings from this study showed significant evidence for the reliability and validity of the ERSQ-27 and it would be advisable to continue using it in scientific research.

Abstract Background Clinical experience is a crucial activity for nursing students. The way students` perceive clinical placement exerts an immense influence on the learning process. This study aims to test the psychometric properties of a 19-item version of the Clinical Learning Environment Inventory under Polish clinical conditions. Method For this study, Discriminant validity and Cronbach’s alpha reliabilities were computed. In order to measure content validity, the criterion validity Generalized Self Efficacy Scale and the Life Orientation Test - Revised were used. Results Cronbach’s Alpha for the Clinical Facilitator Support of Learning Scale and the Satisfaction with Clinical Placement scale is 0.949 and 0.901, respectively. The Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient indicates the existence of a positive correlation between the students’ satisfaction with clinical placement and their [overall] life optimism. Age correlates negatively with perceived teacher support and positively with satisfaction with clinical placement. The sense of self-efficacy correlates negatively with their satisfaction with clinical placement. Clinical Learning Environment Inventory − 19 could be a useful tool to evaluate the quality of the clinical learning process in Polish conditions.

<b><i>Background:</i></b> The incidence of dementia is increasing dramatically worldwide. It is important to determine knowledge about the dementia for it’s prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and care. The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale (DKAS-T) were evaluated in this study. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> The psychometric study was conducted. A total of 1592 participants were recruited between November 2019 and March 2020. The data were collected using a sociodemographic form and DKAS-T. The language and content validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to assess the validity of the scale. The scale’s reliability was obtained using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, a paired sample <i>t</i>-test, item-total score correlation, and Hotelling’s <i>T</i>-squared test. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The mean age of the sample was 29.38 (±11.50) years; 66.8% (<i>n</i> = 1064) were female, and 54.1% (<i>n</i> = 861) reported their income status as income equal to expenditure. The DKAS-T demonstrated content validity and adequate sensitivity (Kendall <i>W</i> = 0.155, <i>p</i> = 0.093). The scale consisted of seventeen items and was unidimensional, which explained 28.705% of the variance. All the factor loadings were found to be &#x3e;0.30 in factor analysis. In CFA, all of the fit indexes were &#x3e;0.95 and root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) was 0.033. A Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.836 was obtained for the entire scale. It was determined that the scale has invariance according to time (<i>t</i> = −1.362, <i>p</i> = 0.181). Homogeneity of the scale was 3.26%, and there was no absence of reaction bias (Hotelling’s <i>T</i>-squared = 2573.681, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The results demonstrated that the instrument is reliable and generates valid data for the Turkish sample. This scale can be used to determine knowledge about dementia and planning educational interventions in the issue.

The aim of the current study was to analyze psychometric properties of the Short LOI-CV in Spanish community sample. Participants were 914 children and adolescents with mean age of 13.01 years (51.3% males). An EFA yielded a three-factor model representing Obsessions, Compulsions, and Cleanliness dimensions. Both, total score and subscales showed an adequate internal consistency. The Spanish version also exhibited good test-retest reliability and moderate convergent and discriminant validity. The younger participants (from 8 to 10 years) obtained higher means for total score and subscales than older participants (groups 11-13 and 14-18 years). Significant differences related to gender were also observed since males obtained higher means in Compulsions subscale. Despite more research is required, the Spanish version of the Short LOI-CV exhibited promising psychometric results to assess obsessive-compulsive symptoms in community population.

ObjectivesTo develop and validate a Patient-Centred Quality of Cancer Care Questionnaire in Spanish (PCQCCQ-S) appropriate to the Mexican context.DesignPsychometric validation of a questionnaire.SettingTwo public oncology hospitals in Mexico City.Participants1809 patients with cancer aged ≥18 years.Source of informationCross-sectional survey.MethodsThe validation procedures comprised (1) content validity through a group of experts and patients; (2) item reduction and evaluation of the factor structure, through an exploratory factor analysis based on the polychoric correlation matrix; (3) internal consistency using Cronbach’s alpha; (4) convergent validity between the PCQCCQ-S and supportive care needs scale; (5) correlation analysis between the PCQCCQ-S and quality of life scale by calculating Spearman’s rank-correlation coefficient; and (6) differentiation by ‘known groups’ through the Wilcoxon rank-sum test.ResultsThe PCQCCQ-S has 30 items with the following five factors accounting for 96.5% of the total variance: (1) timely care; (2) clarity of the information; (3) information for treatment decision-making; (4) activities to address biopsychosocial needs; and (5) respectful and coordinated care. Cronbach’s alpha values ranged from 0.73 to 0.90 among the factors. PCQCCQ-S has moderate convergent validity with supportive care needs scale, revealing that higher quality is correlated with lower patient needs. PCQCCQ-S has acceptable ability to differentiate by ‘known groups’, showing that older patients and those with low levels of education perceived lower total quality of care as compared with their counterparts.ConclusionPCQCCQ-S has acceptable psychometric properties and can be used to measure quality of patient-centred cancer care in Mexico and serve as a reference to develop PCQCCQ-S in other Spanish-speaking countries.

Abstract Background Coping strategies are essential in the cancer management/recovery process and show an integral part in patients with cancer globally. In Sri Lanka, validated scales to measure coping are scarce. This study was examined the Sinhalese version of the Brief COPE for its psychometric properties. Methods This scale is self-administered (28 items) and consists of adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies; divided into 14 subscales. Cancer patients were registered ‘first come - first serve’ basis using their appointment register at the Radiotherapy Unit, Oncology ward, Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya, Galle, Sri Lanka. They were requested to complete the Sinhalese version of the Brief COPE and demographic details. Test-retest reliability was checked using the same subjects two weeks later. Factorial validity was performed using exploratory factor and principal component analysis. Results were regarded as statistically significant if p < 0.05. Results The mean (±SD) age of the sample was 61(±12) years. The mean adaptive coping (±SD) and maladaptive coping were 37.50 (±8.14) and 17.10 (±2.44) respectively. The internal consistency of the overall scale was good (Cronbach’s alpha - 0.819). Adaptive and maladaptive coping showed a high Cronbach’s alpha (0.861 and 0.396). The test-retest reliability was found to be 0.66. The Sinhala version of BC was found to have a negative correlation with the CES-D scale but was positively correlated with the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Seven factors were extracted. Conclusion The Sinhala version of the Brief COPE is a valid and reliable tool to assess coping strategies among patients with cancer. The findings of this study would let the health authorities get an understanding of coping strategies among patients with cancer; and the impact on cancer victims and family members to relieve their suffering.
