Adolescence is a stage characterized by many biological and psychosocial changes, all of which may result in a decrease in subjective well-being. It is therefore necessary to identify those factors that contribute to increased life satisfaction, in order to promote positive development among young people. The aim of this study is to examine the dynamics of a set of variables that contribute to life satisfaction. A total of 1,188 adolescents (aged between 12 and 16 years) completed the Perceived Social Support from Family and Friends and Perception of the School Environment Questionnaires, the Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10 (CD-RISC), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) for social support, emotion regulation, resilience, and life satisfaction. By applying structural equation modeling (SEM), the results reveal a direct prediction of family support, emotion regulation, and resilience on life satisfaction. Support from friends and emotion regulation was also found to explain resilience, and support from family and teachers was found to predict emotion regulation. In conclusion, emotion regulation and social support were found to indirectly affect life satisfaction among adolescents through resilience. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.

This study explored a model of prediction of life satisfaction by individual future orientation (FO) and demographic factors. Individual views of the future and goals are closely associated with well-being. Theories of FO represent different approaches to its conceptualization. Following Seginer (2009), this study presents a combination of motivational, cognitive, and behavioral components of FO. Participants were 130 females and 75 males from 18 to 49. A new measure of individual FO (the Individual Future Orientation Scale, IFOS) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985) were used for the assessment. The results of structural equation modeling demonstrate that relatively higher life satisfaction is predicted by higher individual FO and higher income assessed as an income range and subjective satisfaction with it. Therefore, subjective involvement in a pursuit of future goals and financial background add to understanding of individual satisfaction with life.

This study explores the subjective well-being, overall life satisfaction and perceived social support of Brazilian adolescents by analysing different models that explain the relationships among these three constructs. The sample is comprised of 1,588 adolescents (aged 12–16, 65.5% female), who answered the Personal Well-Being Index (PWI), a measure of Perceived Social Support of Family and Friends, and also an Overall Life Satisfaction single-item scale (OLS). MANOVA and ANOVA were used to assess the differences between groups, with respect to gender, it is observed that girls present lower means than boys for the OLS. Considering age, there was a significant decrease in the mean of the PWI with age. Boys present lower means of friends’ social support. Structural Equation Modelling was used to test theoretical frameworks on data. After analysing different models, the best fit model is presented using the PWI as a mediating factor between social support and satisfaction with life. The perception of social support from family and friends results to be a significant dimension of well-being among Brazilian adolescents. The importance of social support for the subjective well-being is explained by identifying how it contributes to the overall life satisfaction of adolescents.

Objectives Do support and coping strategies moderate the link between stress and life satisfaction among grandparent caregivers? Background Grandparents raising grandchildren often experience stress, which may compromise their subjective well-being. Thus, it is important to understand the role of support and coping as protective or promotive factors in relation to grandparent caregivers’ resilience (i.e., life satisfaction). Methods Grandparent caregivers ( N = 74) reported their daily hassles, life satisfaction, social support, and coping. Results These grandparent caregivers are a vulnerable population in terms of stress and limited social support and coping. Structural equation modeling supported direct, promotive effects of social support and coping on life satisfaction, but not moderation. Conclusion Despite high levels of stress, half of the grandparent caregivers were satisfied with their lives, which was explained by their social support and coping skills. Some grandparents who assume this role likely would benefit from interventions that promote social support and coping skills.

Abstract China is experiencing a large increase in elderly population. In 2019, China’s population aged 60 and above had reached 253 million, accounting for 18.1% of the total population (National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2020). By 2050, the number of adults aged 60+ would be up to 430 million, reaching one third of the total population (Du, Zhai & Chen, 2005). Considering such a rapid aging process and the existing large number of older adults in China, it becomes imperative to investigate how psychosocial factors affect this group’s subjective well-being. This study proposed that, among older adults, higher support received from each of the three relational sources (adult children, family and friends) were associated with reduced loneliness and improved well-being. Structural equation modeling was conducted using a sample of rural adults aged 60 and older (N= 1142) from the 2018 wave of data from the Longitudinal Study of Older Adults in Anhui Province, China. Findings indicated that support from adult children directly and indirectly decreased older adults’ depression and improved their life satisfaction through loneliness; while support from family members directly decreased depression but did not directly improve life satisfaction or indirectly improve well-being through loneliness. Although support from friends did not have a significant impact on older adults’ well-being, it indirectly improved well-being through reduced loneliness. Findings have implications for programs or interventions targeting both parent -adult-child support and friends support and reducing rural older adults’ loneliness.

ABSTRACT: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FORGIVENESS AND SUBJECTIVE WELL BEING AMONG ORPHANAGE ADOLESCENTSThis study aims to determine the relationship between forgiveness and subjective well-being in adolescents who are in the orphanage, through the three components contained in it, i.e. life satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect. The subjects of this study were 58 adolescents in the Budi Mulya Muhammadiyah Sukarame orphanage. Data collection method using three scales, those are Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and Possitive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). The data analysis technique used is the product moment correlation. The results of the analysis of this study explain that there is a positive relationship between forgiveness and subjective well-being through the three components in SWB. Abstract Purpose This study aimed to explore the relationship between social support, self-worth, self-reported health, and subjective well-being among the Chinese rural empty nest elderly, and whether self-worth and self-reported health affect these associations.Methods This cross-sectional study was performed from May 2017 to April 2018, the participants were 365 empty-nest elderly adults from rural areas of Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia. Data were collected with the General information questionnaire, Self-worth questionnaire for adults, Social Support Scale and Memorial University of New Found land Scale of Happiness. Structural equation modeling was used to test the mediation hypothesis. Bootstrapping was performed to confirm the mediation effect. Hayes’s SPSS-PROCESS was used for testing the moderating effects.Results Self-worth showed significant correlations with social support, self-reported health and subjective well-being (all P<0.01).Bootstrapping indicated that the mediating role of self-worth was statistically significant. And self-reported health moderated the social support and subjective well-being association.Conclusions Self-worth and self-reported health are important targets for prevention and intervention for improving the subjective well-being of the rural empty-nest elderly.

In this study, whether optimism has a mediating role in the relationship between self-compassion and subjective well-being was examined. The sample of the study consisted of 302 volunteer participants (117 [38.74%] males) between the ages of 18 and 47. Data were obtained using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS), and Optimism Scale (OS). The data obtained from the scales were analyzed with the Structural Equation Model using IBM SPSS Amos 22.00 statistical package program. According to the findings of the study, optimism plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between self-compassion and subjective well-being. Consequently, self- compassion affects optimism, and this effect may increase subjective well-being.

Background. Subjective well-being (SWB) can be partitioned into the components life satisfaction and affect. Research on factors influencing these components of well-being has mainly focused on environmental characteristics. The aim of this study was to investigate the relative contribution of genes and environment to individual differences in life satisfaction in a large sample of Dutch twins and their singleton siblings.Method. Life satisfaction of 5668 subjects registered with The Netherlands Twin Registry (NTR) was measured with a Dutch version of the self-reported Satisfaction with Life Scale. An extended twin design was used to obtain correlations in life satisfaction scores for monozygotic twins, dizygotic twins and sibling pairs and to estimate the contribution of genes and environment to the variation in life satisfaction.Results. No differences between males and females were found in the mean level of life satisfaction. Broad-sense heritability was 38%. Non-additive genetic factors explained all or most of the genetic influences. The remaining 62% of the variance in life satisfaction could be attributed to unique environmental factors, both persistent and transitory, plus measurement error.Conclusions. Individual differences in life satisfaction are determined in part by genetic factors that are largely or entirely non-additive in nature.

Introduction. Theory and research support the idea that subjective well-being (positive / negative affect and life satisfaction) is a substantial construct in understanding psychological well-being and mental health. The relevance of life satisfaction in variables affecting psychological well-being has been studied. Life satisfaction in adolescents and its association with sex, age, parental educational styles, peer attachment and emotional intelligence was researched. Groups were compared according to degree of life satisfaction and its relationship with these variables. Method. The sample was composed of 285 secondary school students (49.8% male), average age 15.09 years (12 to 19), and self-report measures of variables were applied to be analyzed: Satisfaction with Life Scale-Child (SWLS-C), Parental Educational Style of Adolescents, Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) y Trait Meta-Mood-Scale-48 (TMMS-48). Results. Results showed a significant high level of satisfaction among adolescents. A significant higher score among boys compared to girls was confirmed, as in the younger compared to older. Correlations were statistically significant between life satisfaction and all dimensions from Parental Educational Style analyzed, except Behavioral Control; with Alienation and Confidence of Peer Attachment; and with Emotional Intelligence Clarity and Repair, as well as statistically significant differences among satisfaction groups in 12 of the 19 variables analyzed. Discussion and Conclusion. Promoting life satisfaction in adolescents is increasingly relevant, due to the role it may play in achieving good psychological adjustment, thus contributing to the promotion and prevention of mental health.

<p class="IABSTRAK"><strong>Abstract: </strong>Subjective well-being is people’s evaluation of they life. It includes evaluation about cognitive and affective. People have higher subjective well-being, they have a more positive affective or good feelings and satisfied with the life they have. Contrary, people who have lower subjective well-being tend to overcome negative feelings in him. Therefore, subjective well-being is very important in the life of every individual is no exception to the new students. There are many factors that influence the subjective well-being such as sex, religion, education, intelligence emotion regulation and self efficacy. This study focused on the influence of self efficacy and regulasi emosi toward subjective well-being. This study aims to look at the effects of self-efficacy and emotion regulation towards students’s subjective well-being. The study involved 107 new students majoring in engineering architecture that consists of 51 men and 56 women This study uses a quantitative approach which is measured using four scales that is Possitive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), General Self efficacy (GSE), and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to measure emotion regulation. The results show that there is the influence of self-efficacy and emotion regulation on subjective well-being. Simultanously, self-efficacy and regulation of emotions influence subjective well-being of 32.5% to the subjective well-being. But partialy, self efficacy more has contribute to subjective well-being, than emotion regulation.</p><div class="Section1"><p class="IABSTRAK"><strong>Abstrak:</strong> <em>Subjective well-being</em> merupakan evaluasi individu terhadap kehidupannya yang meliputi penilaian kognitif dan afeksi. Individu dikatakan memiliki <em>subjective well-being</em> tinggi jika mengalami lebih banyak afeksi positif atau perasaan menyenangkan dan puas atas kehidupan yang dimiliki. Sebaliknya, orang yang memiliki <em>subjective well-being</em> rendah cenderung diliputi perasaan-perasaan negatif dalam dirinya. Oleh sebab itu, <em>subjective well-being</em> sangat penting dalam kehidupan setiap individu tidak terkecuali pada mahasiswa baru. Ada banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi <em>subjective well-being</em> antara lain jenis kelamin, religiusitas, pendidikan, kecerdasan, regulasi emosi dan <em>self efficacy</em>. Penelitian ini mem­focus­kan tentang pengaruh efikasi diri dan regulasi emosi terhadap <em>subjective well-being. </em>Penelitian ini melibatkan 107 orang mahasiswa baru jurusan teknik arsitektur yang terdiri dari 51 orang laki-laki dan 56 orang perempuan Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif yang diukur menggunakan empat skala yaitu <em>Possitive and Negative Affect Schedule</em> (PANAS), <em>Satisfaction with Life Scale</em> (SWLS), General <em>Self efficacy</em> (GSE) dan <em>Emotion Regulation Questionnaire</em> (ERQ). Analisis yang dilakukan adalah analisis deskripsi dan regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh <em>self efficacy</em> dan regulasi emosi terhadap <em>subjective well-being</em>. Secara bersama-sama, <em>self efficacy</em> dan regulasi emosi mempengaruhi <em>subjective well-being</em> sebesar 32,5%terhadap <em>subjective well-being</em>. Secara terpisah, <em>self efficacy</em> memberikan sumbangan sebanyak 21,62% dan regulasi emosi sebanyak 3,53% terhadap <em>subjective well-being</em>.</p></div>
