IntroductionSafewards is an organisational approach to delivering inpatient mental health services. The aim of Safewards is to minimise the number of situations in which conflict arises between healthcare workers and patients that lead to the use of coercive interventions (restriction and/or containment).The Safewards Model has been developed, implemented and evaluated for its impact on all forms of containment. Safewards has been adopted as the recommended approach to preventing patient agitation and clinical aggression in some jurisdictions. Notwithstanding these recommendations, the outcomes of Safewards for staff and patients have not been comprehensively described.The aim of the scoping review is to describe (1) Safewards interventions; (2) how Safewards interventions have been implemented in healthcare settings; (3) outcome measures used to evaluate the effectiveness of Safewards; (4) barriers and enablers to the uptake and sustainability of Safewards. This review will provide a foundation for further research and/or systematic review of the effectiveness of Safewards.Methods and analysisPeer-reviewed manuscripts of quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method research in English with be included for the period 01 January 2013– December 31st 2020. Electronic databases including Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane, Embase, Emcare, Joanna Briggs Institute, Medline, Global Health, PsycINFO and Scopus will be searched. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews checklist and explanation and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Protocol will be followed. Publications will be excluded if they do not include the required participants, concept or context. Two reviewers will independently screen all titles and abstracts and full-text studies for inclusion.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval for this review is not required as the information to be collected is publicly available. There are no participants or safety considerations in this review of published literature. Key findings for future research and clinical practice will be disseminated though peer-reviewed publication, stakeholder reporting and conference presentations.

Trata-se de um protocolo de revisão de escopo sobre os cuidados de enfermagem em transplante de células-tronco hematopoiética. Tem como objetivo formalizar o estudo primário. O protocolo define os caminhos que serão adotados no estudo secundário de Revisão de Escopo e foi elaborado baseado no Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) e no PRISMA Extension  Scoping Reviews (PRISMA -ScR). Espera-se com a revisão mapear a evidência disponível na literatura sobre o cuidado de enfermagem em TCTH no ambiente hospitalar.

Part 2 of this narrative review outlines the theoretical and practical bases for assessing the efficacy and effectiveness of conventional medicines and homeopathic products. Known and postulated mechanisms of action are critically reviewed. The evidence for clinical efficacy of products in both categories, in the form of practitioner experience, meta-analysis and systematic reviews of clinical trial results, is discussed. The review also addresses problems and pitfalls in assessing data, and the ethical and negative aspects of pharmacology and homeopathy in veterinary medicine.

Global literature is ever-growing and physicians rely on it for evidence-based decision making. Review articles summarize available literature and provide the current state of knowledge on a given topic. Various review types exist, the main ones being narrative and systematic reviews. The former are based on studies selected in an undefined manner. They express the authors’ opinions of a given topic, lack a systematic search, and are prone to bias. By contrast, the latter represent an unbiased synthesis of knowledge on a particular topic and attempt to offer all relevant evidence. A systematic review may include a meta-analysis, which combines the results of quantitative studies using statistical techniques to provide a more precise summary of the evidence. With a dramatic increase in literature complexity, new “next-generation” types of reviews emerged to improve the quality of evidence synthesis: network meta-analysis, umbrella review, and meta-analysis of individual patient data, among others. Finally, scoping reviews are a special type, conducted as precursors to systematic reviews aiming to reveal specific knowledge gaps in a given subject.

Systematic reviews play an important role in healthcare decision-making. When conducted correctly, they provide up-to-date, comprehensive, and replicable summaries of evidence. Authors of systematic reviews are expected to develop a protocol that outlines the research question and key methodological features of their review. A comprehensive and exhaustive search should be conducted, followed by screening to capture studies that meet the prespecified inclusion criteria. Once the relevant studies have been identified, data will be extracted, using a dedicated tool that permits the review authors to confirm the eligibility of the study and collect information on its design, risk of bias, and results. Sufficiently similar data may be pooled using meta-analytic techniques or synthesized narratively. A summary of the overall quality of evidence for each outcome is an essential component of a systematic review. The main concerns with systematic reviews are (1) selection bias: systematic exclusion of relevant studies due to publication status or language; (2) indexing bias: failure to identify relevant studies because they are not indexed accurately; and (3) information bias: missing or inaccurate information in the included studies. Other approaches to evidence synthesis include mapping the evidence with scoping reviews; conducting overviews of systematic reviews; using individual patient data; conducting network meta-analyses for multiple comparisons; conducting rapid reviews when evidence is needed urgently; synthesis of diagnostic accuracy data; and synthesis of qualitative data. Systematic reviews often inform clinical guidelines and require careful planning and execution by teams with content and methodological expertise.

A Telessaúde tem o potencial de resolver diversos problemas na assistência e gestão da saúde, aumentando a qualidade, acessibilidade, utilização, eficácia e eficiência dos serviços e reduzindo custos. Este artigo apresenta um protocolo de revisão de escopo que visa caracterizar os modelos conceituais e frameworks relacionados à implementação e avaliação de Telessaúde/Telemedicina publicados em repositórios indexados entre os anos 2000 e 2020, evidenciando as teorias subjacentes, conceitos/dimensões chave utilizados e tipos de avaliação envolvidos. O protocolo objetiva documentar os processos envolvidos no planejamento metodológico e execução de uma revisão de escopo abrangente, orientada pelas diretrizes do Joanna Briggs Institute, tendo sido desenvolvido usando o PRISMA-Protocols (PRISMA-P) 2015 Checklist. A estratégia PCC (população, conceito e contexto) sistematizou a busca por estudos publicados nas bases bibliográficas Medline, Lilacs, Scopus, Embase e Web of Science, cobrindo o período de janeiro de 2000 até dezembro de 2020. A seleção dos artigos será realizada em duas etapas (títulos e resumos, seguida da avaliação do texto completo dos artigos), por dois avaliadores independentes, com resolução das divergências realizadas por um terceiro revisor. Os resultados serão analisados de forma qualiquantitativa e organizados por temas. O relatório final da revisão obedecerá ao checklist presente no Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). O protocolo foi registrado no Open Science Framework (doi: 10.17605/OSF.IO/9PWBQ).

Background: Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the main cause of visual impairment in diabetic retinopathy (DR). Current gold standard therapy of DME is macular laser photocoagulation (MPC). Growing evidences have shown benefits of intravitreal anti-VEGF agents (i.e bevacizumab) and intravitreal corticosteroids (i.e triamcinolone acetonide). Aim: To compare the visual acuity (VA) improvement of patients with DME, treated with intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB), a combination of IVB and intravitreal triamcinolone (IVB/IVT), and MPC. Method: A comprehensive PubMed® and Cochrane® databases search was conducted on May 4th, 2017 using appropriate keywords (diabetic macular edema, bevacizumab, triamcinolone, and laser photocoagulation using their MeSH terms). Studies were filtered using inclusion criterions (clinical trials, RCT, meta-analysis, systematic review, English, humans, and publication within 10 years) Results: Three studies (2 systematic reviews and 1 RCT) were found suitable. From these results, all studies showed favoring effects of IVB when compared to IVB/IVT combination and MPC in short term period (up to 6 months). However, there was no significant improvement of VA beyond this period in all groups. Conclusion: IVB appears to be superior to IVB/IVT and MPC in improving VA during 6 months follow- up period. Future systematic reviews and meta-analysis are required on the effect of IVB and MPC combination in cases of DME.

Spices such as cinnamon (Cinnamomum Spp.) have been of interest due to their phytochemical composition that exert hypoglycemic effects with potential for management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We summarize data from 27 manuscripts that include, one book chapter, 3 review articles, 10 randomized controlled trials, 4 systematic reviews with meta-analysis, and 9 preclinical studies. The most frequently used cinnamon variety was Cinnamomum cassia rather than the Cinnamomum zeylanicum, whereas outcomes were defined as fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and oral glucose tolerance test. A great variability in methodology such as different doses (from 120 mg to 6 g), duration of intervention, data retrieved and use of different concomitant medication, were found to be key aspects of most of trials and systematic reviews with meta-analysis available to date. Low quality studies have been made in most cases with a lot of heterogeneity clouding significance of results. More research needs to be done in order to yield accurate evidence for evidence-based recommendations. Its use is not currently a reliable nor advisable option for the treatment of T2DM.

A large number of research studies in structural health monitoring (SHM) have presented, extended, and used subspace system identification. However, there is a lack of research on systematic literature reviews and surveys of studies in this field. Therefore, the current study is undertaken to systematically review the literature published on the development and application of subspace system identification methods. In this regard, major databases in SHM, including Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, have been selected and preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) has been applied to ensure complete and transparent reporting of systematic reviews. Along this line, the presented review addresses the available studies that employed subspace-based techniques in the vibration-based damage detection (VDD) of civil structures. The selected papers in this review were categorized into authors, publication year, name of journal, applied techniques, research objectives, research gap, proposed solutions and models, and findings. This study can assist practitioners and academicians for better condition assessment of structures and to gain insight into the literature.
