Industry 4.0 has been creating new jobs for several years, and people are already being employed in work positions that did not exist ten years ago. Due to the speed and complexity of the changes brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it will be necessary to respond adequately and flexibly to this challenge. This research paper is devoted to the issue of Industry 4.0 outbreak into industrial enterprises, while the issue of job structure will become an increasingly urgent one. The main objective of this problem-oriented quantitative type of research is based on the analysis of the state and course of Industry 4.0 implementation process to estimate the impact of Industry 4.0 concept implementation on job creation in small and medium-sized enterprises and family businesses in Slovak Republic. A questionnaire survey in small and medium-sized enterprises in Slovak Republic was chosen as the fundamental research method. The results have shown that new technologies will increasingly displace physical labor in particular, and emerging jobs will put ever-increasing demands on human intellect. The conclusions from our findings can be the basis for the creation of educational programs not only within the workplace but also in the educational system in Slovak Republic.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution bears major technological, demographic, and socio-economic changes affecting nearly every area in business. Within the human resources area, both a surplus of labor and the creation of brand new professions are to be expected. Industry 4.0 concept significantly affects labor productivity in individual countries and does not miss the Slovak Republic either. All segments of the labor market, not just industrial enterprises, will be affected. The present study aims to analyze the possible development of labor productivity in Slovak companies and determine its development in the next period, considering the decreasing number of working-age populations in terms of the fallouts on creation and termination of jobs and occupations. The questionnaire carried out in 319 enterprises in the Slovak Republic with a received response of 228 was a key research tool used to analyze the results of the survey. The findings show that although the labor force within the Slovak labor market will not increase, the labor force will decrease due to unfavorable demographic development. The overall productivity in Slovak companies will increase due to the new technologies implementation. The results have proved that the Industry 4.0 concept will significantly affect labor productivity in the world economy and the Slovak Republic. In particular, the recommendations aim to draw attention to changes in job structure and the need to reform the education system because of Industry 4.0 requirements. Currently, Industry 4.0 (I4.0) is the most popular concept relating to changes in the functioning of industrial enterprises. Industry 4.0 has been discussed in the actual literature mainly from a technological perspective, overlooking social challenges regarding this fourth industrial revolution. The objective of this article is to diagnose the impact of I4.0 on employees. This aim will be achieved by (1) a literature review of existing research efforts, (2) conducting structured interviews, and (3) summarizing the current state of knowledge and providing a definition of further work. Scopus, Web of Science, and a set of specific keywords were used to select peer-reviewed articles showing evidence of the impact of I4.0 on employees/jobs in given countries or industries. After determining the current state of research in this area, it was decided to conduct structured interviews questionnaire in the country (Australia) and industry (horticulture), which had not been covered by the research in this topic so far. The main contribution of the article was the development and validation of a comprehensive research agenda on the impact of I4.0 on employees. The obtained results suggest that the impact of I4.0 on employees is significant, and the changes occur in many different categories related to human work. The impact of I4.0 was identified both at the macro (labor market) and micro (jobs) level.

Recent technological innovations in the means of production, product development and distribution materials are promoting big changes in the productive sector. This set of innovations is called Industry 4.0. The purpose of this article is to study the main aspects of Industry 4.0 and analyze their impact on the means of production of manufactured goods and the supply chain. Therefore, it uses bibliographic references relating to the fourth industrial revolution (SCHWAB, 2009), Industry 4.0 (KOCH, 2014) and production management (Slack, 2009). Considerations achieved in this study will form the basis for future research on the developments of new technologies in society.

New technologies are increasingly appearing to assist people in all areas. In the footwear industry it would not be different, where the industry 4.0 or fourth industrial revolution characterizes the current moment. This research examined how the managers of some sandal factories in the Cariri Region are realizing the changes and technological advances of industry 4.0 as a source of competitive advantage. A field research of a basic nature, with a qualitative and descriptive approach, where interviews were applied with the managers of sandal factories in the Region of Cariri, chosen for convenience and judgment of the researcher. The study is relevant due to the existence of great changes that have been taking place within the companies along with new technologies that are emerging, but it is not known how managers receive these changes and use them to benefit the company and in the search for a differential for competitive advantage in the market. At the end of the research it was possible to conclude that from the reality of each manager and company the way they receive and use the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution changes, and the lack of knowledge, structure, and money in the smaller companies makes the potential use competitive advantage is not so much taken advantage of.

The article is aimed at formulating the scientific-practical aspects of assessing the adaptive potential of industrial enterprises, taking into account the constant changes in the society’s needs. The publication defines that throughout the history of mankind industry advanced the development of civilization. Improvement of mechanisms, technologies, inventions that transformed the interaction and communication of people, irrevocably changed the development of civilization. Global industrial revolution significantly affected the lives and views of all nations. The modern era of risk and instability, globalization and new technologies all together transform the functioning conditions of the business environment and cause deep concern of many managers. On the basis of the carried out study, time ranges of the duration of crisis cycles are explored, an analysis of the cycles of crises (rise and depression) according to M. Kondratiev is carried out. The approach to overcoming the consequences of crises by industrial enterprises has been developed. Taking into account the impact of the crisis on the process of formation of an adaptively oriented management system of industrial enterprises on the basis of innovating, an algorithm for assessing their adaptive potential has been formed, which will be the grounds for producing effective managerial decisions on their development. The proposed algorithm of the scientific-practical approach to assessing the adaptive potential of industrial enterprises consists of the following stages: preparatory (research, projecting, adjustment); analytical (assessment of the dynamics of adaptive potential of industrial enterprises); pragmatic (defining development prospects).

Paper is devoted to interrelation research between investments in technology of the fourth industrial revolution, patterns of innovative behavior and productivity of the Russian industrial companies. Research is conducted on the basis of data of 576 industrial companies (874 respondents).At the first investigation phase it is confirmed that technologies of the industry have the greatest impact on increase of productivity and transformation of industrial production 4.0: robotics, Internet of things, additive production, big data and analytics, cybersecurity. Besides, effects of introduction of technologies of the fourth industrial revolution are defined: financial, valuable, operational, innovative and technological development.At the second investigation phase the interrelation analysis between investments is carried out to technologies of the industry 4.0, patterns of innovative behavior and productivity of the industrial companies with use of the modified CDM model. The received empirical results have shown that investments of the industrial companies in technology of the fourth industrial revolution increase productivity with elasticity 0,28 for high-tech industries; 0,21 – for the middle-technology, and 0,14 – for low-technology.Investments in innovative activity have elasticity range from 0,04 (for low volumes of investments in new technologies) to 0,17 (at the high volumes of investments); the relations between investments in an innovation and growth of productivity aren't linear and have stable positive relation only after a certain critical mass of investments in new technologies is reached. Considerable influence on interrelation of investments in innovations and productivity is rendered by the characteristic of branch in which the company works: the firms working in high-tech industries, not only put in new technologies, innovative activity more, but also have more high efficiency caused by scientific researches and development; the companies of low-technology branches have negative elasticity of investments in innovations and productivity that is connected with influence of effect of unprofitability of investments into innovations (appropriability effect), that is the additional profit on investment isn't essential.

Growing consumerism and population worldwide raises concerns about society’s sustainability aspirations. This has led to calls for concerted efforts to shift from the linear economy to a circular economy (CE), which are gaining momentum globally. CE approaches lead to a zero-waste scenario of economic growth and sustainable development. These approaches are based on semi-scientific and empirical concepts with technologies enabling 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and 6Rs (reuse, recycle, redesign, remanufacture, reduce, recover). Studies estimate that the transition to a CE would save the world in excess of a trillion dollars annually while creating new jobs, business opportunities and economic growth. The emerging industrial revolution will enhance the symbiotic pursuit of new technologies and CE to transform extant production systems and business models for sustainability. This article examines the trends, availability and readiness of fourth industrial revolution (4IR or industry 4.0) technologies (for example, Internet of Things [IoT], artificial intelligence [AI] and nanotechnology) to support and promote CE transitions within the higher education institutional context. Furthermore, it elucidates the role of universities as living laboratories for experimenting the utility of industry 4.0 technologies in driving the shift towards CE futures. The article concludes that universities should play a pivotal role in engendering CE transitions.

Industry 4.0 is the essence of the fourth Industrial revolution and is happening right now in manufacturing by using cyber-physical systems (CPS) to reach high levels of automation. Industry 4.0 is especially beneficial in highly developed countries in terms of competitive advantage, but causes unemployment because of high levels of automation. The aim of this paper is to find out if the impact of adopting Industry 4.0 on the labor markets of Iran and Japan would be the same, and to make analysis to find out whether this change is possible for Iran and Japan with their current infrastructures, economy, and policies. With the present situation of Iran in science, technology, and economy, it will be years before Iran could, or better say should, implement Industry 4.0. Japan is able to adopt Industry 4.0 much earlier than Iran and with less challenges ahead; this does not mean that the Japanese labor market would not be affected by this change but it means that those effects would not cause as many difficulties as they would for Iran.

The paper analyzes the role of Industry 4.0 in the process of overcoming the global economy from the crisis situation associated with the total Covid-19 pandemic. The aspect of economic profitability of using the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution to improve world economic development in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic was also identified. The author identified the positive and negative consequences of the involvement of technology Industry 4.0, on the basis of which a number of recommendations for small and medium-sized businesses were formed in order to quickly overcome the negative effects of the crisis. Based on the work, the author formulated a number of trends and prospects for global economic development, taking into account the current conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Radical changes resulting from the Fourth Industrial Revolution strongly affect industrialized European countries. In particular, due to the new technologies that are characteristic of Industry 4.0, it will be essential for companies to make the necessary changes and achieve competitiveness through the implementation of these technologies. In order for companies to be able to make radical changes and innovations, they need to secure all the supporting areas in their organization. This research paper is focused on comparison of companies from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Switzerland in the context of readiness for Industry 4.0. This research was part of a research project, while data were collected in the period of 2015–2016. We have analysed companies from selected countries based on 7 areas which are closely interconnected with the business transformation and technology transformation coming from Industry 4.0. The main analysed questions focused on areas such as employee education and training, organizational culture, strategy, or organizational processes, that will be most affected by radical changes in the environment. Research has highlighted the differences between countries as a result of long-standing cultural differences, but at the same time identified the unified influence of the ongoing global debate on the need for technological innovation. With Slovak and Czech companies being below stronger innovators in the maturity of education systems, we strongly advise considering partnering in education which can bring valuable information to businesses that want to take on the wave of innovation.
