Herbaceous biomass will contribute significantly to meeting renewable energy goals. Harvesting equipment for hay is generally suitable for mowing, raking, and baling grasses such as switchgrass; however, there is a need for field data to better understand machine performance in energy crops. The purpose of this study was to collect field data to estimate baler field capacity, throughput, and speed. Data gathered with a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) unit during baling provided time-motion studies of baler productivity. Six fields were used to compare field capacity, speed, and throughput results from four round balers and one large-square baler. The results show that in-field performance of round balers is significantly affected by yield, but that the relationship can be represented with machinery management concepts, knowledge of maximum throughput, and wrap-eject time. Baler performance will be overestimated if the yield, maximum throughput, and wrap-eject time are not correctly accounted for.

Purpose:A limitation of most rugby league time–motion studies is that researchers have examined the demands of single teams, with no investigations of all teams in an entire competition. This study investigated the activity profiles and technical and tactical performances of successful and less-successful teams throughout an entire rugby league competition.Methods:In total, 185 rugby league players representing 11 teams from a semiprofessional competition participated in this study. Global positioning system analysis was completed across the entire season. Video footage from individual matches was also coded via notational analysis for technical and tactical performance of teams.Results:Trivial to small differences were found among Top 4, Middle 4, and Bottom 4 teams for absolute and relative total distances covered and distances covered at low speeds. Small, nonsignificant differences (P = .054, ES = 0.31) were found between groups for the distance covered sprinting, with Top 4 teams covering greater sprinting distances than Bottom 4 teams. Top 4 teams made more meters in attack and conceded fewer meters in defense than Bottom 4 teams. Bottom 4 teams had a greater percentage of slow play-the-balls in defense than Top 4 teams (74.8% ± 7.3% vs 67.2% ± 8.3%). Middle 4 teams showed the greatest reduction in high-speed running from the first to the second half (–20.4%), while Bottom 4 teams completed 14.3% more high-speed running in the second half than in the first half.Conclusion:These findings demonstrate that a combination of activity profiles and technical and tactical performance are associated with playing success in semiprofessional rugby league players.

Purpose:To analyze the match running profile, distance traveled over successive 15 min of match play, heart rates (HRs), and index of performance efficiency (effindex) of professional soccer players with a global positioning system (GPS) and HR in official competition.Methods:Twenty-six professional players were investigated during full matches in competitive club-level matches (N = 223). Time–motion data and HR were collected using GPS and HR technology.Results:The relative total distance was 113 ± 11 m/min, with substantial differences between halves. For all playing positions, a substantial decrease in total distance and distance covered at >13.0 km/h was observed in the second half in comparison with the first. The decrease during the second half in distance covered at >13.0 km/h was substantially higher than in total distance. The average HR recorded was 86.0% maximal HR, and the relationship between external and internal load (effindex) was 1.3, with substantial differences between halves in all playing positions, except strikers for effindex. Wide midfielders reflected substantially the lowest mean HR and highest effindex, whereas center backs showed substantially the lowest effindex of all playing positions.Conclusions:The current study confirmed the decrement in a player’s performance toward the end of a match in all playing positions. Wide midfielders displayed the highest and fittest levels of physical and physiological demands, respectively, whereas center backs had the lowest and least-fit levels of physical and physiological demands, respectively. The position-specific relationship between external and internal load confirms that players with more overall running performance during the full match were the best in effindex.

The acceptance of electronic laboratory information system (LIS) is gradually increasing in developing countries. However, the issue of time effectiveness due to computerization is less clear as there is fewer accessible information. One of the key issues for laboratorians is their indecision with LISs’ would-be effect of time on their work. A polyclinic in Ghana was in the process of implementing electronic LIS. Several of the laboratorians did not have knowledge and skill in computing and there were disagreeing views on the time effectiveness of the LIS after implementation. The management of the polyclinic laboratory was concerned to assess time advantageousness of recording data when using the electronic LIS compared with paper-based LIS. <div><br></div><div>Five randomly selected laboratorians were provided two sheets of paper with tables to document the time they spent for both paper-based and electronic LIS. Data were collected for a total of 230 records,115 electronic LIS and 115 paper-based LIS. The t-test (mean-comparison test) was computed to compare the means of both electronic and paperbased LIS times. </div><div><br></div><div>There was a statistical significant difference in the time spent between electronic and paper-based LIS. The time spent between paper-based and electronic LIS was 0.41 minutes (95% CI 0.15 to 0.66) longer than in electronic LIS. </div><div><br></div><div>LIS can be adopted in polyclinics without having significant negative impact on time spent between electronic and paper-based LIS. More time–motion studies that include laboratorians are however necessary in order to get a more complete picture of time spent between electronic and paper-based LIS. </div>

Exposure to food environments has mainly been limited to counting food outlets near participants’ homes. This study considers food environment exposures in time and space using global positioning systems (GPS) records and fast food restaurants (FFRs) as the environment of interest. Data came from 412 participants (median participant age of 45) in the Seattle Obesity Study II who completed a survey, wore GPS receivers, and filled out travel logs for seven days. FFR locations were obtained from Public Health Seattle King County and geocoded. Exposure was conceptualized as contact between stressors (FFRs) and receptors (participants’ mobility records from GPS data) using four proximities: 21 m, 100 m, 500 m, and ½ mile. Measures included count of proximal FFRs, time duration in proximity to ≥1 FFR, and time duration in proximity to FFRs weighted by FFR counts. Self-reported exposures (FFR visits) were excluded from these measures. Logistic regressions tested associations between one or more reported FFR visits and the three exposure measures at the four proximities. Time spent in proximity to an FFR was associated with significantly higher odds of FFR visits at all proximities. Weighted duration also showed positive associations with FFR visits at 21-m and 100-m proximities. FFR counts were not associated with FFR visits. Duration of exposure helps measure the relationship between the food environment, mobility patterns, and health behaviors. The stronger associations between exposure and outcome found at closer proximities (<100 m) need further research.

Underpinned by Social Exchange Theory (SET) this study examines the relationship between social resources and employee engagement using the Ubuntu construct as a mediating variable. Employee engagement conceptualized as a positive work-related mind-set has demonstrated positive association with both supervisor support and colleague support. The study uses data collected from employees in organizations in Botswana (n = 438) to assess the relationship between social resources and employee engagement using Ubuntu as a mediating variable. Using mediation analysis, findings suggest that high levels of Ubuntu enhance the strength of the relationship among supervisor support, colleague support and employee engagement. These findings open significant potential for future studies identifying the cultural peculiarities as well as managerial implications of management concepts such as employee engagement in non-western settings and underlining the importance of the Ubuntu concept in managing staff in a sub-Saharan Africa country.

It has been recognized that CORSIM (and its constituent program, NETSIM) is one of the most widely used and effective computer programs for the simulation of traffic behavior on urban transportation networks. Its popularity is due in large part to the high level of detail incorporated into its modeling routines. However, the car-following models, used for the simulation of driver behavior in the program, have not been formally calibrated or validated. Since the model has performed well in a wide range of applications for so many years, it has always been assumed to have an implied validity. This study evaluated the NETSIM car-following models by comparing their results with field data. Car-following field data were collected using a new data collection system that incorporates new Global Positioning System and geographic information system technologies to improve the accuracy, ease, speed, and cost-effectiveness of car-following data collection activities. First, vehicle position and speed characteristics were collected under field conditions. Then simulated speeds and distances were based on identical lead vehicle actions using NETSIM car-following equations. Comparisons of simulated and field data were completed using both graphical and statistical methods. Although some differences were evident in the graphical comparisons, the graphs overall indicated a reasonable match between the field and simulated vehicle movements. Three statistical tests, including a goodness-of-fit test, appear to support these subjective conclusions. However, it was also found that definitive statistical conclusions were difficult to draw since no single test was able to compare the sets of speed and distance information on a truly impartial basis.

Engineering characterization which are useful for "temperate" zone soils usually fail to predict the field performance of bauxitic soils, because the index tests upon which the characterization are based are not always reproducible for bauxitic soils. Fifteen (15) bauxitic soil of undisturbed and disturbed samples from 3 distinct sites in Kuantan, all derived from basalt parent rock but representing various stages of weathering were subjected to engineering and mineralogic tests. Values for cohesion and friction angles are evaluated. Soils from Semambu has the highest moisture content of 33.27%, the cohesion value is however lower compared to Bukit Goh which has moisture content of 21.74%. Study are further done to discover the relationship with cohesion and friction angles. Thus, by measuring the cohesion and friction angle can evaluate the performance of bauxite shear strength.

<p>Penelitian yang berjudul “Makna Simbolik <em>Tor-torsombah </em>Dalam Upacara Adat Kematian <em>Sayur Matua </em>Pada Masyarakat Suku Batak Simalungun” merupakan bentuk pertunjukan tari yang terkait dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua</em>. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali makna simbolik <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua, </em>bagaimana hubungan antara <em>Tor-tor Sombah Sombah </em>dengan upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua </em>pada masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun, serta bentuk pertunjukan <em>Tor-tor Sombah Sombah </em>dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua. </em>Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini diungkapkan dengan mendeskripsikan bentuk dari <em>Tor-tor Sombah Tor-tor Sombah </em>yang dilihat dari elemen-elemen koreografi dengan dibantu oleh notasi laban dan dianalisis dengan memakai teori dari Laban yaitu <em>effort </em>dan <em>shape</em>. Selain itu juga dalam penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna simbolis <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>yang dilihat dari dua bagian yaitu aspek dalam dan aspek luar dengan konsep dari Allegra Fuller Synder. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnokoreologi. Teknik pengumpulan data lapangan menggunakan model dari Kurath dengan metode etnografi tari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa <em>Tor-tor Sombah Tor-tor Sombah </em>dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua </em>bagi masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun dilaksanakan sebagai penyampaian rasa hormat anak kepada orang tua yang sudah meninggal. <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>dalam kehidupan masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun saling berkaitan dan merupakan bagian dari adat yang digerakkan secara simbolis pada upacara adat<em>. Tor-tor Sombah </em>memiliki makna dan simbol dalam unsur sajian yang ditampilkan yaitu: dalam gerak tangan, iringan musik, busana, tata rias, properti, dan <em>umpasa</em>. Gerakan pada tangan yang terdapat dalam <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>mempunyai tiga</p><p>bentuk, yaitu :<em>sombah</em>, <em>mangalo-alo</em>, <em>mamasu-masu. </em>Selain menunjukkan bahwa <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>memiliki makna simbolik, berkaitan juga sebagai media komunikasi, dan melalui gerak yang disajikan terjadi interaksi antar peserta upacara. <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>menjadi bagian dari kebudayaan yang berfungsi untuk menjaga serta mempertahankan kelangsungan sistem sosialnya pada masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Kata kunci: </strong><em>or-tor Sombah, </em>Upacara Adat Kematian <em>Sayur Matua </em>Batak Simalungun, Koreografi, Makna Simbolik.</p><p> </p><p><strong><em>ABSTRACT</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><em>The study entitled “Makna Simbolik Tor-tor Sombah Dalam Upacara Adat Kematian Sayur Matua Pada Masyarakat Suku Batak Simalungun” is a form of dance performance concerning the traditional ceremony of Sayur Matua death. This study aims to explore the symbolic meaning of Tor-tor Sombah in Sayur Matua death ceremony, how the relationship between Tor-tor Sombah and the traditional ceremony of Sayur Matua death in Batak Simalungun tribe, as well as the form of Tor-tor Sombah performance at the ceremony of Sayur Matua death. The problems in this study are expressed by describing the form of Tor-tor Sombah Tor-tor Sombah which is seen from the choreographic elements through Laban notation and is analyzed by using Laban theories, namely </em>effort <em>and </em>shape<em>. In addition, this study also aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of Tor-tor Sombah based on the inner and outer aspects with the concept of Allegra Fuller Synder. The data is collected by using qualitative method with an ethnochoreological approach. The Field data collection uses models from</em></p><p><em>Kurath through dance ethnographic methods. The results of the study show that Tor-tor Sombah in Sayur Matua death ceremony in Batak Simalungun tribe represents the delivery of children’s respect towards their deceased parents. The Tor- tor Sombah is interrelated with the life of Batak Simalungun tribe and is part of the custom that is symbolically presented in traditional ceremonies. Tor-tor Sombah has meanings and symbols in the elements of presentation, namely: hand gestures, musical accompaniment, costume, make-up, property, and </em>umpasa<em>. There are three forms of hand gestures in the Tor-tor Sombah, namely: sombah, mangalo alo, mamasu-masu. Besides the symbolic meaning contained in Tor-tor Sombah, it also represents a medium of communication. The presented movement causes an interaction among the participants of the ceremony. The Tor-tor Sombah is part of a culture that serves to maintain the continuity of its social system in Batak Simalungun tribe.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><strong><em>Keywords: </em></strong><em>Tor-tor Sombah, Traditional Ceremony of Sayur Matua Death of Batak Simalungun, Choreography, Symbolic Meanings.</em></p>
