The article concerns the condition of automation and robotization of underground mining in Poland. Attention has been focused on the specific character of the mining industry. This limits the possibility of using robotization, and sometimes even the mechanization of certain processes. In recent years, robotic and automated machines and machine system solutions have been developed and applied in Poland. They are autonomous to a various degree, depending on the branch. The type of automation and artificial intelligence depends on the specific use. Some examples presently being used include the MIKRUS automated longwall system and autonomous device(s) for breaking rocks or mining rescue work. In Poland, fully automated plow systems produced by foreign companies are also used. Companies in Poland and international research centers are also actively engaged in the development of underwater and space mining. where robotization is of key importance. Research is also being undertaken by Robotics in Mining, euRobotics and PERASPERA as well as Space Mining Conference.

Copper mining activity is going through big changes due to increasing technological development in the area and the influence of industry 4.0. These changes, produced by technological context and more controls (e.g., environmental controls), are also becoming visible in Chilean mining. New regulations from the Chilean government and changes in the copper mining industry (such as a trend to underground mining) are fostering the search for better results in typical processes such as leaching. This paper describes an experience using artificial intelligence techniques, particularly random forest, to develop predictive models for copper recovery by leaching, using data from an enterprise present in northern Chile for more than 20 years. Two models, one of them with actual operational data and another one with data generated in a controlled environment (piling) are presented. Well-classified values of 98.90% for operational data and 98.72% for pile/piling data were obtained. The methodology devised for the study can be transferred to piling columns or piles with other characteristics, though the operation must focus on copper leaching. It can even be transferred to other leaching processes using another type of mineral, with proper adjustments.

Abstract The paper presents the analysis of the phenomenon of horizontal displacement of surface induced by underground mining exploitation. In the initial part, the basic theories describing horizontal displacement are discussed, followed by three illustrative examples of underground exploitation in varied mining conditions. It is argued that center of gravity (COG) method presented in the paper, hypothesis of Awierszyn and model studies carried out in Strata Mechanics Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences indicate the proportionality between vectors of horizontal displacement and the vector of surface slope. The differences practically relate to the value of proportionality coefficient B, whose estimated values in currently realized design projects for mining industry range between 0.23r to 0.42r for deep exploitations, whereas in the present article the values of 0.33r and 0.47r were obtained for two instances of shallow exploitation. Furthermore, observations on changes of horizontal displacement vectors with face advancement indicated the possibility of existence of COG zones above the mined-out field, which proved the conclusions of hitherto carried out research studies (Tajduś 2013).

With all of the research and investment dedicated to artificial intelligence and other automation technologies, there is a paucity of evaluation methods for how these technologies integrate into effective joint human-machine teams. Current evaluation methods, which largely were designed to measure performance of discrete representative tasks, provide little information about how the system will perform when operating outside the bounds of the evaluation. We are exploring a method of generating Extensibility Plots, which predicts the ability of the human-machine system to respond to classes of challenges at intensities both within and outside of what was tested. In this paper we test and explore the method, using performance data collected from a healthcare setting in which a machine and nurse jointly detect signs of patient decompensation. We explore the validity and usefulness of these curves to predict the graceful extensibility of the system.

The practical experience of solving scientific tasks using artificial intelligence technologies is presented. The authors offered their understanding of the term "artificial intelligence". Describes the development of the dept. №265 of Mathematical Problems of Applied Informatics V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the NAS of Ukraine in the creation of technical systems with elements of AI mainly to work in extreme environments. The purpose of the authors is to provide useful information to develop a strategy for the development of AI in the Ukraine. Some of these studies: monitoring the territory and management of land use technologies using remote sensing technologies from aircraft, spacecraft, unmanned aerial vehicles; monitoring the technical equipment of the underwater environment (technical means of searching for a sunken object of the submarine type for emergency operations are being developed); mine safety control (risk research during mining, creating robotic systems with elements of artificial intelligence for studying the conditions of work in the mine, warning accidents and emergency rescue work). The next direction is the diagnosis and treatment of addictive patients using the principles of therapeutic methods BiofeedBack. Attention is paid to the development of robotic technical systems with AI for servicing cosmic long missions. For this, theoretical studies have been conducted on the creation of a live brain mathematical model for its use in the development of the "artificial brain" of robots. The authors gave a list of tasks that can solve AI in programs for long-term space flights, technologies and systems that should develop in the first place to implement these tasks

The XIV International Research and Practice Conference “Ukrainian School of Mining Engineering” once again has made an important contribution to the mining industry, science and education. In the course of the conference, a wide range of problems was discussed: theoretical aspects of mining; domestic and foreign experience; personnel training in modern realities; problems of mineral deposits development; fundamental concepts of labor safety, etc. Fruitful dialogue and exchange of experience among conference participants contribute to the generation of new ideas, discoveries, technologies that will find their application in the nearest future. The formation of a new generation of scientists and engineers is taking place today, and therefore this representative conference is an important means of creating a new intellectual environment. The conference promotes the establishment of effective contacts between representatives of different scientific schools and directions, and the acquisition of invaluable experience and practice by researchers.

In the early 1960s, Portugal saw a rise in scientific research on architecture and urbanism at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil; LNEC), fundamental to support the Government in establishing a national program for housing, which continued until the fall of the Dictatorship in 1974. Lacking tradition in scientific studies in architecture and urbanism, a group of young architects with knowledge of references from international researchers and research centers gathered encouragement and opportunities to develop their own research works and methodologies and, later, to question the application of such scientific methods. This article aims to identify and discuss the strategies and methodologies explored to develop these seminal researches, retrieving and reappraising LNEC’s archived documents and oral testimonials from former researchers. We aim at exposing the foundations of Portuguese scientific research on architecture and urbanism and its contributions to an international audience.

In the last decade, artificial intelligence (AI) has undergone many important developments in China and has risen to the level of national strategy, which is closely related to the areas of research and policy promotion. The interactive relationship between the hotspots of China’s international AI research and its national-level policy keywords is the basis for further clarification and reference in academics and political circles. There has been very little research on the interaction between academic research and policy making. Understanding the relationship between the content of academic research and the content emphasized by actual operational policy will help scholars to better apply research to practice, and help decision-makers to manage effectively. Based on 3577 English publications about AI published by Chinese scholars in 2009–2018, and 262 Chinese national-level policy documents published during this period, this study carried out scientometric analysis and quantitative analysis of policy documents through the knowledge maps of AI international research hotspots in China and the co-occurrence maps of Chinese policy keywords, and conducted a comparative analysis that divided China’s AI development into three stages: the initial exploration stage, the steady rising stage, and the rapid development stage. The studies showed that in the initial exploration stage (2009–2012), research hotspots and policy keywords had a certain alienation relationship; in the steady rising stage (2013–2015), research hotspots focused more on cutting-edge technologies and policy keywords focused more on macro-guidance, and the relationship began to become close; and in the rapid development stage (2016–2018), the research hotspots and policy keywords became closely integrated, and they were mutually infiltrated and complementary, thus realizing organic integration and close connection. Through comparative analysis between international research hotspots and national-level policy keywords on AI in China from 2009 to 2018, the development of AI in China was revealed to some extent, along with the interaction between academics and politics in the past ten years, which is of great significance for the sustainable development and effective governance of China’s artificial intelligence.

The intensive development and application of artificial intelligence technologies in organizing interaction with clients is accompanied by such difficulties as: the client’s unwillingness to communicate with the robot, distrust, fear, negative experience of the clients. Such problems can be solved by adhering to ethical principles of using artificial intelligence. In scientific and practical research on this topic, there are many general recommendations that are difficult to apply in practice, or, on the contrary, that describe the methods for solving a highly specialized technical or management problem. The purpose of this article is to determine the ethical principles and methods, the observance and implementation of which would increase confidence in artificial intelligence systems among client of a particular organization. As a result of the analysis and synthesis of the scientific and practical investigations, as well as the empirical experience of Russian and foreign companies, the main areas of application of artificial intelligence technologies affecting the customer experience were identified. The ethical principles recommended to be followed by business have been formulated and systematized. The main methods have been also identified to enable implementation of these principles in practice, and so to reduce the negative effects of customer interaction with artificial intelligence and increase their confidence in the company.

Through the case analysis of Carnegie Mellon University in the field of artificial intelligence in America. the similarities and differences of the above university in artificial intelligence talent cultivation were obtained from four dimensions: length of learning and degree, enrollment requirements, staff force construction and the offered curriculum. The conclusion could support the suggestions and advice for domestic policymakers and decision makers as follows: to promulgate the document of artificial intelligence talent cultivation pertinently as the guideline; to promote the new institutes construction of artificial intelligence and update the research centers of artificial intelligence; to improve the supporting incentive mechanisms such as scholarships, competitions and academic conference grants for the students in the direction of artificial intelligence.
