At the moment, macroalgae blooms in sea waters, the rotting of which causes greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to the formation of a negative ecological and economic situation in coastal zones, which has become a serious problem. Fuel production through hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of macroalgae and marine debris is a promising solution to this ecological problem. The article provides an overview of studies on producing fuel from macroalgae and an assessment of the possibility of their joint recovery with marine debris. The optimal process conditions and their technological efficiency were evaluated. The article shows the feasibility of using heterogeneous catalysis and co-solvent to increase the yield of bio-oil and improve its quality. An assessment of the possibility of joint processing of waste macroalgae and marine debris showed the inexpediency of this direction. The high degree of drift macroalgae contamination also raises the question of the appropriateness of the preliminary extraction of other valuable components for nutrition use, such as fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and their derivatives.

The Bioconductor Gateway on the F1000Research platform is a channel for peer-reviewed and citable publication of end-to-end data analysis workflows rooted in the Bioconductor ecosystem. In addition to the largely static journal publication, it is hoped that authors will also deposit their workflows as executable documents on Bioconductor, where the benefits of regular code testing and easy updating can be realized. Ideally these two endpoints would be met from a single source document. However, so far this has not been easy, due to lack of a technical solution that meets both the requirements of the F1000Research article submission format and the executable documents on Bioconductor. Submission to the platform requires a LaTeX file, which many authors traditionally have produced by writing an Rnw document for Sweave or knitr. On the other hand, to produce the HTML rendering of the document hosted by Bioconductor, the most straightforward starting point is the R Markdown format. Tools such as pandoc enable conversion between many formats, but typically a high degree of manual intervention used to be required to satisfactorily handle aspects such as floating figures, cross-references, literature references, and author affiliations. The BiocWorkflowTools package aims to solve this problem by enabling authors to work with R Markdown right up until the moment they wish to submit to the platform.

The Network-on-chip (NoC) paradigm has been proposed as a promising solution to enable the handling of a high degree of integration in multi-/many-core architectures. Despite their advantages, wired NoC infrastructures are facing several performance issues regarding multi-hop long-distance communications. RF-NoC is an attractive solution offering high performance and multicast/broadcast capabilities. However, managing RF links is a critical aspect that relies on both application-dependent and architectural parameters. This paper proposes a design space exploration framework for OFDMA-based RF-NoC architecture, which takes advantage of both real application benchmarks simulated using Sniper and RF-NoC architecture modeled using Noxim. We adopted the proposed framework to finely configure a routing algorithm, working with real traffic, achieving up to 45% of delay reduction, compared to a wired NoC setup in similar conditions.

Molecular orientation has a strong influence on polymeric composite materials’ mechanical properties. In this paper we describe the use of polarized micro-Raman spectroscopy as a powerful tool to map out the molecular orientation of a uniaxially oriented polypropylene- (PP-) based composite material. Initial samples exhibited a high degree of surface fibrillation upon cutting. Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize the degree of orientation in the skin and guide the development of the posttreatment process to optimize the skin relaxation while maintaining the high degree of orientation in the rest of the board. The PP oriented polymer composite (OPC) was oriented through an extrusion process and its surface was then treated to achieve relaxation. Micro-Raman analysis at the surface region demonstrated the surface orientation relaxation, and the results provide an effective way to correlate the extent of relaxation and process conditions. Larger scale orientation mapping was also carried out over the entire cross-section (12.7 cm × 2.54 cm). The results agree well with prior expectation of the molecular orientation based on the extrusion and subsequent quenching process. The methodologies described here can be readily applied to other polymeric systems.


The flow of fluid associated with the impact of water drops of radius R at a speed V onto unyielding dry metal surfaces of known roughness R a is described. Spatial dimensions of the deforming drop are normalized by transformations of the kind x ' — x/R , and time scales are normalized according to t ' = tV/R , to permit comparison of events where or differ. It is shown that the primary influence of the surface roughness parameter R a is the determination of the condition for the ejection of secondary droplets by the excitation of an instability in the developing watersheet; provided R a ≪ R , it is possible to evaluate the condition to a high degree of accuracy, and for R a = 0.84 μm it is found to be α4/3 RV 1.69 > 7.4, where α is the eccentricity of the drop at the moment of impact. Deceleration of the drop apex does not commence until > 0.6, contrary to the prediction of Engel (1955) but in good agreement with that of Savic & Boult (1957). Close examination of the very early stages of impact suggests strongly that the so-called watersheet originates at a moment t ' — 0.01 after first contact, regardless of the absolute values of R, V or R a ; the initial normalized watersheet velocity is of order 5. Where there is ejected material, its normalized velocity at the moment of ejection is of the order of 20 % greater than that of the watersheet substrate. Simple calculations also suggest that initial fluid velocities greater than 10 are required immediately before the initiation of the watersheet ( t '< 0.01). Impacts at speeds considerably greater than the appropriate terminal fall speed in air show no deviations in character from those investigated at much lower speeds. A simple subsidiary experiment also suggests that greater impact velocities are required to produce splashing on inclined targets.

Background: We aim at presenting a clinical case of a 37-year-old patient, who has been a nun for several years and at the moment can no longer adapt to the environment in which she lives and to the requirements of everyday life. The perspective of this analysis is both a psychiatric one, explaining the diagnosis of Axis II of Histrionic Immature Personality Disorder, but also the overlap with dissociative conversion disorder, and explanatory from a psychodynamic perspective, by addressing the regression issues and the presence of the Oedipus Complex. Histrionic Immature Personality Disorder and its overlap with Dissociative/Conversion Disorder are conditions with negative effects in terms of adaptation to the social environment and assuming professional responsibilities. Also, the particularities in the sphere of immaturity make it difficult to relate to those around. Method: Hospitalization, psychiatric interview, psychodynamic interview, psychological tests - CAQ Personality Questionnaire and the Szondi Test, psychodynamic interpretations. Results: The results highlight aspects of an immature premorbid personality, characterized by a high degree of sensitivity. Currently, the patient's ego is fragile and cannot adapt to the emotional meanings in the environment in which she lives, which leads to functional crises and manifestations such as dissociative fugue. Conclusions: Dissociative manifestations are associated with immaturity and reduced ability to adapt to professional requirements. On a personal level, the same immaturity leads to the denial of one's sexuality and projection.

The changes in the Brazilian rural environment became evidente especially after 1960, as a reflex of a governmente policy of incentive to agriculture and also as a consequence of attitudes taken from the moment of space occupation by man. The transformations will bemirrored not only in the space and production, but also in man's living conditions who in habits and works in such a space. Taking into account such transformations at the nacional level, studies were carried out in the Moji Mirim and Moji Guaçu counties emphasizing the degree of occurred a mechanization in agriculture in them and the problems found for the rural deveIopment to take place. It was verified that, in the analyzed space, the high degree of mechanization was not conducive to the desired rural development.

Magnetic neutron scattering is very closely connected to the fundamental magnetic quantities of magnetisation and susceptibility. This is because, to a very high degree of approximation which becomes exact at long neutron wavelengths, the interaction of the neutron magnetic dipole moment is with the local magnetic induction in the magnetic material. The strength of neutron scattering for the investigation of magnetic materials lies in this and the facility of the technique to probe Fourier components of the moment and the susceptibility with wavelengths down to atomic distances, as well as to probe susceptibility fluctuation time scales the same as those that are thermally excited. This paper provides a concise account of the formal connection between neutron scattering cross sections and more familiar bulk magnetic parameters.
