Bipolar Disorder (BD) is an illness with high prevalence and a huge social and economic impact. It is recurrent, with a long-term evolution in most cases. Early treatment and continuous monitoring have proven to be very effective in mitigating the causes and consequences of BD. However, no tools are currently available for a massive and semi-automatic BD patient monitoring and control. Taking advantage of recent technological developments in the field of wearables, this paper studies the feasibility of a BD episodes classification analysis while using entropy measures, an approach successfully applied in a myriad of other physiological frameworks. This is a very difficult task, since actigraphy records are highly non-stationary and corrupted with artifacts (no activity). The method devised uses a preprocessing stage to extract epochs of activity, and then applies a quantification measure, Slope Entropy, recently proposed, which outperforms the most common entropy measures used in biomedical time series. The results confirm the feasibility of the approach proposed, since the three states that are involved in BD, depression, mania, and remission, can be significantly distinguished.

Annotation. Introduction. Creation of an efficient property management system is one of the main problems for the enterprise management system. The effectiveness of such a system is directly determined by the quality of information used for management. Among the tasks, which an economic entity faces, a special place is occupied by the classification of objects of accounting. Financial and tax indicators depend on its solution at a particular enterprise. In order to properly organize the economic activity of an enterprise, it is needed to know what funds it has and in what these funds are invested (placed). Therefore, the division of enterprise resources into separate groups is necessary to understand and summarize the accounting information used for financial statements. Purpose. To ensure the usefulness of information on the availability of non-current tangible assets, which is provided to users in the way of classification, the article defines the qualitative characteristics of the classification of non-current tangible assets (relevance, objectivity, reliability, content, comparison) and studies their essence. Results. The research suggests a critical assessment of existing approaches to the criteria for grouping non-current tangible assets in order to define differences between them. This has made it possible to clarify the content of the criteria for recognizing non-current tangible assets as assets of the enterprise (criteria of economic benefit, value reliability, and control). This clarification deepens the understanding of the nature of non-current tangible assets as objects of accounting. Conclusions. The research has investigated the classification of non-current tangible assets from the normative-legal and scientific points of view. It has summarized the criteria applied in accordance with domestic and foreign legislation for the classification of non-current tangible assets. The research has substantiated the importance of improving the existing classification of such assets for accounting purposes. The research has also improved classification of non-current tangible assets according to the following criteria: the ability to bring economic benefits (long-term, immature) and the method of use in the production process (consumed, fruitful), which will significantly improve the structuring of enterprise assets. Keywords: classification; resources; criteria; non-current tangible assets; fixed assets; long-term biological assets.

An exchange with genetic information is one of the key factors driving bacterial evolution. However, the mechanisms for integration of horizontally transferred genes into the regulatory network of a new host remain almost unexplored so far. The present work aimed to investigate this adaptive process, specifically, involvement of the transcription machinery of bacterial cells. Two foreign genes in the genome of Escherichia coli K12 MG1655 were substituted with their copies from the genomes of predicted donors, and a long-term evolution experiment was initiated for both mutant and control cultures. After 2000 (for the sfmA gene) and 4000 (for the ydhZ gene) generations, modified and native genomic regions were amplified and used for population sequencing. Spontaneous mutations were analyzed, and it was found that substitutions of G/C- to A/T-pairs occurred more frequently in the modified regions as compared to non-modified, whereas A/T → G/C substitutions occurred more rarely. That means that the host genome responds to integration of foreign genetic material with an adaptive reaction aimed to enrich the modified region with A/T-pairs. In the course of long-term evolution, it may result either in “silencing” of an unfavourable gene with a specific suppressor of foreign genes, H-NS, or in creation of a promoter acceptable for adequate expression as a part of promoter island.

Despite the progress in otosurgery, the efficient treatment of patients with the cochlear form of otosclerosis (according to the classification of N.A. Preobrazhensky, 1962) remains an important task. The authors have developed and implemented an advanced stapedoplasty method, providing the improvement of hearing in this category of patients. and described the methods of differential diagnostics for selection of patients according to the developed method. The article describes in details the early and long-term functional results of surgical treatment of 60 patients with cochlear and mixed II forms of otosclerosis, divided into the main and control groups. The main group is represented by 30 patients who underwent a cartilage-on-vein stapedoplasty according to the improved method. The control group included 30 patients, in which 18 people underwent a cartilage-on-vein stapedoplasty according to the method developed by Lenin Prize winner V. F. Nikitina, and 12 people who underwent V. T. Palchun’s piston stapedoplasty. The results demonstrate a statistically significant improvement of bone conduction in the main group in average by 15–20 dB throughout the entire tone scale (except for high frequencies in some patients) and the complete closure of the bone-air interval with subsequent preservation of the results. Based on the obtained data, the authors present the expediency and perspectivity of implementation of the advanced stapedoplasty method.

AbstractIn recent years, rheumatic fever has been declining in the industrialized countries, and has became a rare disease. In developing areas, nonetheless, the sequels of its cardiac involvement have important implications from the stance of public health, and this disease is still the main cause of heart disease in children and young adults. From a historical perspective, the long-term prevention and the control of socioeconomic problems have been proven to be effective, and it is these measures which have contributed to the decline of the disease in developed countries. But, due to its present high prevalence around the world, and the potential for his resurgence, this disease remains an unsolved problem. Furthermore, the complete understanding of its pathophysiology remains a challenge. In this presentation, we will discuss our experience with epidemiological, clinical and prophylatic aspects of this enigmatic disease, and the strategies we have developed to study and control heumatic fever in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
