At the moment of writing, in Italy, there is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Its outbreak is leading to severe global socioeconomic disruptions impacting on all economic sectors from tourism, industry and the tertiary sector, up to the operational and opening of public offices, the closure of schools and the organization of families. Measures adopted by the Italian government to deal with the COVID-19 emergency have had direct effects both on people’s daily lives and on the activity of most industrial and commercial production companies. These changes have been unequivocally reflected also on the Italian electricity system, which has shown unprecedented behavior in terms of both energy consumption and volume—and subsequently, in the observed share of renewable and conventional production technologies. The goal of this study is to show the impact on the power industry of all the restrictions and lockdown of the activities in Italy and to discuss the effects of COVID-19 outbreak on the bulk power system and the entire electricity sector. In particular, the consequences on load profiles, electricity consumption and market prices in Italy, including the environmental aspects, are examined.

This research aims to discover and present the impacts of COVID-19 in tourism in the context of Lumbini and its premises. As COVID-19 spread globally, it has created many challenges in health and security, daily lives, the national economy, and the global tourism industry. The COVID-19 outbreak has been considered as the most challenging tragedy that occurred in the world after the 2nd world war. The World Health Organization (WHO) had listed Nepal also as a country with a high-risk zone of COVID-19.The travel restriction and nationwide lock-down implemented by many countries including Nepal have resulted in a stranded traveler’s movement. As the consequences ticket reservation, flight services, transportation, hotel, and restaurants were closed and several job losses were registered in the tourism sector. The negative effects like fear, threat, frustration, and losing the confidence of tourism entrepreneurs appeared. This has brought changes in the tourists’ behavior and their motivation to travel for the next few years. In Lumbini businesses like lodges, hotels, restaurants, and travel offices were also severely affected by the pandemic. Thus, the tourism sector has been facing serious threats due to the prolonged lockdown and closing of tourism activities than the terror of COVID-19 itself.

Meeting climate change goals requires both the decarbonization of the electricity sector and the electrification of much of the rest of the economy. However, the electricity sector is navigating major disruptions that are changing the regulatory and business landscape. This article focuses on the question of whether these changes would help or hinder electrification, taking transportation as an example. Like the electricity sector, transportation is undergoing a deep transformation. We suggest that businesses in both sectors will at some point offer aggregated services, repackaged as subscriptions, and traded on digital platforms. We also argue that data created by these activities would be so valuable that this could be reason alone to move toward this model. This could create synergies between companies that could eventually lead to a rebound effect of electrification, with more vehicle miles traveled and more electricity consumption than before.

Tourism has strongly been considered as an agent of change and widely used as a major tool for achieving the goals of development.  Sinc the prefix, ‘sustainable’ has been added to the term development and subsequently applied to all major economic sectors, the dimensions of development stretched  to a greater extent than before  and desired goals of development have been redefined.  Tourism industry, often regarded as a world’s largest and fastest growing economic sector has also come under the diameters of sustainable  development.  The impact of tourism is not limited to the economic sector only.  This industry has proven to be a strong stimulus for socio-cultural changes too.  These impacts become more apparent in remote and peripheral regions where the, societies are traditional and closed and where  the cultural elements are preserved in authentic form. In this paper, an attempt has been made to examine the nature of tourism development in Ladakh, which is a peripheral  region and explain how socio-cultural changes occur in this region since the introduction of tourism.  Further, assumptions have been made through discussion regarding the future impact and the nature of tourism development in Ladakh.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of the acceptance of national governments’ restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic on the citizens’ safety perceptions of daily life and future plans. In particular, the aim is to examine the relationship among the citizens who belong to Generations Y and Z and who represent the future of tourism markets, as tourists and as host communities, in three important receiving countries, namely, Egypt, Portugal and Turkey. Design/methodology/approach This pilot project gathers data from three important receiving countries located on two continents involving 348 residents from Generations Y and Z. To identify the factors underlying the “acceptance of restrictions and measures” and the “Impacts of the COVID-19 threat on safety perceptions” a factor analysis was carried out. Notably, Pearson's correlation coefficient and a multiple linear regression analysis allowed to analyze the relationships between the two factors and a Kruskal–Wallis test was used to assess the influence of individuals’ country of residence. Findings The results reveal that in general, young generations accepted the measures and restrictions imposed by the respective governments. In addition, the present pandemic has a strong impact on their safety perception in daily lives and future plans to travel. Moreover, results prove that between the three countries there are dissimilarities showing that the countries' situation regarding COVID-19 influences those two dimensions. Research limitations/implications This study adds to the development of studies on the impacts of health risks in tourism activity, specifically on the safety measures adopted and their impacts on local receiving communities. It shows that the current pandemic is severely affecting the daily lives and plans for the future of citizens and tourists, which is in accordance with previous studies. Practical implications The outcome of this study paves the way for policy-makers in the tourism industry because it presents experiences from Generations Y and Z members, future customers and tourist products consumers, but also from receiving communities. Social implications The results of this study bring some light on how local communities, specifically, the younger generations, are facing this pandemic period and on the impact it has on the way they face daily life, future plans and on their level of acceptance of a sector as important as tourism. Originality/value To the knowledge, besides the relevant studies already conducted on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the tourism field, no study has yet been carried out to analyze how residents have reacted and accepted the restrictions and security measures imposed by their national governments and their impact on residents’ feelings and perceptions, daily lives and travel plans. Furthermore, the specific impacts of this crisis will have on the younger generations are yet to be analyzed.

The purpose of the article is to scientifically substantiate the necessity to develop hotel industry as a factor in the competitiveness of Ukraine’s travel industry and to suggest approaches to assessing the impact made by hotel industry on the development of the travel industry. To achieve this goal, a number of general and special research methods have been used, namely: analysis and synthesis; abstract and logical method; comparison; hierarchy analysis method; entropy; mathematical modelling in Economics using correlation and regression analysis; integrated approach. The article substantiates the need to develop tourism infrastructure, including the hotel complex, which is determined by the importance of tourism as one of the most promising areas of economic development in Ukraine, in general, and its individual regions, in particular. It has been determined that, in addition to tourist attractions, it is worth paying attention to providing tourist infrastructure with accommodation. To give scientific background proving the impact of hotel complex development on travel industry development and to assess this impact, a correlation analysis of the factors of travel industry development in a region has been carried out. The analysis results have been used as a ground for assessing the impact of hotels and other accommodation on tourism revenues. It has been found out that tourism industry today is an important factor in the social and economic development of various countries and regions, a source of stable and dynamic increase in budget revenues and a factor in activating the entire network of national economy sectors, as it has a multiplier effect on other economic sectors. Therefore, it is important for Ukraine to unite the efforts of tourism employees and researchers from different fields in order to create a framework for further development of the country’s tourism infrastructure. Comprehensive research in this area can become the subject of further research.

The European Union has set itself ambitious emission-reduction targets—becoming carbon neutral by 2050. The member states’ energy systems are increasingly switching to renewable and decentralized configurations, in line with the EU guidelines. This is accompanied by the support for “prosumers”—entities that both consume and generate renewable energy. In parallel, a number of prosumer support schemes are emerging as a result of the search for optimal development paths. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the power market, causing huge anomalies mainly in demand and billing. The objective of the study was to assess the impact of the proposed changes in the prosumer schemes on the level of benefits prosumers obtained, including the performance of sensitivity analyses reflected in different levels and stability of electricity consumption resulting from extreme situations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Numerical computer simulations for five predefined prosumer support schemes were carried out in the R-project environment. The basic conclusion is that the prosumer benefits most from participating in the applicable discount mechanism, in which the unused energy is fed into a network storage, from which the prosumer can take 70% or 80% of the stored volume. The research also allows us to conclude that in Poland the COVID-19 pandemic has had a very significant impact on the level and profile of energy demand due to the introduction of restrictions on selected areas and economic sectors. The reduced demand is particularly visible in services (−58%), tourism and sport (−39%), and education (−19%). The analysis is an important contribution to the search for an optimal model of prosumer market development in Europe.

In the XX century, tourism has become one of those economic sectors that are developing at an accelerated pace. According to the World Trade Organization, in 2022 the revenue from international tourist travel will be 1.9 billion, which is 4 times higher than in 2015. Statistical indicators of the impact of tourism on the economy of foreign countries demonstrate the importance of developing the tourism industry in the global economy and Ukraine particularly. However, it should be noted that despite the coronavirus pandemic, the global tourism industry by the end of 2020 may be short of $210,000,000,000 in revenues. This is the data of a study published by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The development of innovative ways to overcome the crisis created by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry is seen by us as a more detailed study of the organization of tourism services in the planning system of tourism enterprises. The above-mentioned aspect demonstrates the relevance of the topic and indicates the need for a detailed study of this issue. The study of theoretical and methodical aspects concerning the process of organization of tourist services in the planning of tourist enterprises has been carried out in the article. In particular it is noted that tourism occupies a special place in the system of branches of national economy and sphere of services. The concept of “tourist service” is analyzed and its key components are outlined. It is established that the formation of tourist services is significantly influenced by different components of the tourism industry. The definition of the notion of “tourism industry component” is given and the categorical factors that is forming tourist services are highlighted. The interdependence of economic relations and the sequence of technological operations on the basis of which the process of planning of tourist enterprise activity has to be realized have been determined. It has been specified that all subsystems of a tourist enterprise should correspond in their quantitative and qualitative composition to the needs of a certain territory in providing the necessary assortment and volume of tourist services. It is noticed that in the process of organization and realization of tourist services considerable attention should be paid to the quality criterion.
