The aim of this study was to investigate the sensory aroma profiles of white wines of the indigenous Greek grape varieties Assyrtiko, Malagousia, Moschofilero, and Roditis. Twenty-three panelists evaluated 17 wines of the aforementioned varieties using the frequency of attribute citation method. Three indices were calculated to assess panel performance in terms of reproducibility. Correspondence analysis and cluster analysis were employed to investigate the sensory space of the wines. Samples of the Roditis variety were characterized mainly by Banana and Vanilla odors; Assyrtiko samples had Earthy, Mushroom, and Nutty odors, as well as Lemon and Honey for some of the samples. Malagousia wines were described as having Lemon, Grapefruit, and Citrus blossom character, and they shared some descriptors with Assyrtiko wines, such as Mushroom and Earthy, and some with Moschofilero samples, i.e., floral and citrus notes. All Moschofilero wines exhibited a floral odor profile: specifically, Rose, Jasmine, or more Citrus blossom-like. Moreover, some Moschofilero samples also revealed a Grapefruit, Lemon, and/or Earthy character, while others expressed Honey notes. In conclusion, despite common characteristics found within varieties, some samples of different varieties exhibited overlapping profiles, and in some cases, samples of the same variety were quite different from each other.

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to analyse Italian high school and university students’ attitudes towards physics using the Semiotic Cultural Psychological Theory (SCPT). In the SCPT framework, attitudes represent how individuals interpret their experience through the mediation of generalized meaning with which they are identified. A view-of-physics questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect data with 1603 high school and university students. Data were analysed through multiple correspondence analysis and cluster analysis. We identified four generalized meanings of physics: (a) interesting and important for society; (b) a quite interesting, but badly taught subject at school and not completely useful for society; (c) difficult to study and irrelevant for society; and (d) a fascinating and protective niche from society. The identified generalized meanings are significantly correlated to the choice to study physics at undergraduate level and to the choice of attending physics-related activities in high school. Implications for research are discussed.

Stylometric tests were run to assess whether, in Matthew, Q material differs in style from that of M. Correspondence Analysis was used on larger samples. Then counts of the five most frequent words in smaller samples were tested using three further methods: GLM, Discriminant Analysis and Cluster Analysis. These tests assigned about 80% of the samples to the expected source. This result permits a cautious preference for the Two Source Theory against the theory upheld by Farrer, Goulder and Goodacre.

AbstractA novel patient cluster in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) may be identified in Japan. We performed multiple correspondence and cluster analysis regarding 427 clinically diagnosed AAV patients excluding eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. Model 1 included the ANCA phenotype, items of the Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score, and interstitial lung disease; model 2 included serum creatinine (s-Cr) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels with model 1 components. In seven clusters determined in model 1, the ANCA-negative (n = 8) and proteinase 3-ANCA-positive (n = 41) groups emerged as two distinct clusters. The other five myeloperoxidase-ANCA-positive clusters were characterized by ear, nose, and throat (ENT) (n = 47); cutaneous (n = 36); renal (n = 256), non-renal (n = 33); and both ENT and cutaneous symptoms (n = 6). Four clusters in model 2 were characterized by myeloperoxidase-ANCA negativity (n = 42), without s-Cr elevation (< 1.3 mg/dL) (n = 157), s-Cr elevation (≥ 1.3 mg/dL) with high CRP (> 10 mg/dL) (n = 71), or s-Cr elevation (≥ 1.3 mg/dL) without high CRP (≤ 10 mg/dL) (n = 157). Overall, renal, and relapse-free survival rates were significantly different across the four clusters in model 2. ENT, cutaneous, and renal symptoms may be useful in characterization of Japanese AAV patients with myeloperoxidase-ANCA. The combination of s-Cr and CRP levels may be predictive of prognosis.

This article presents results of the author’s PhD thesis based on religious beliefs and practices, and attitudes of towards marriage, life, and sexuality. The sample included 500 undergraduate students from public universities of Lisbon. Applying multiple correspondence analysis and cluster analysis to these beliefs, practices, and attitudes, three clusters or types of religiosity were produced: nuclear Catholics, intermediate Catholics, and non-Catholics. These clusters were characterised in terms of religious socialisation, as well as of non-Catholic beliefs and practices, and aspects of life. When crossed with these last items, the clusters were renamed respectively: socio-centred orthodox, ambitious heterodox, activist and hedonist non-believers.

Abstract The aim of the present paper is to investigate an objective microbiological analysis of the wine by identification of some parameters such as total amount of germs and yeastswhich are contained in the quality wines from Getic Piedmont namely: Bolovanu, Corcova, Drăgășani, Sâmburești, Segarcea, Ștefănești.The Getic Piedmont is a relict geomorphological relief unit with significant variations from the flat, low lands fragmented by moderately rough with strong fragmentation. We have selected by grouping the wines in grape varieties, white wines (Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling) and red wines (Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot noir) which were tested by microbiological tests. The opinion that the bacteria level should be acceptable in red wines and the yeasts level in white wines were supported by literature. The presence of these micro-organisms have clear influence in wine validity, in principle they are not detectable in a biologically pure wine.

In order to investigate the genetic diversity present in the pea germplasm stored in the Albanian genebank, we analyzed 28 local pea genotypes of Albanian origins for 23 quantitative morphological traits, as well as 14 retrotransposon-based insertion polymorphism (RBIP) molecular markers. The study of morphological characters carried out during three growing seasons (2010, 2011 and 2012) had the objective of characterization of traits useful in breeding programs. RBIP marker analysis revealed the genetic similarity in range from 0.06 to 0.45. ANOVA, principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis was used to visualize the association among different traits. Most of the quantitative morphological traits showed significant differences. PCA and cluster analysis (Ward&rsquo;s method) carried out for morphological traits divided the local pea genotypes into three clusters. Finally, the study identified the agronomicaly important traits which will facilitate the maintenance and agronomic evaluation of the collections.
