Though sex/gender is an important social determinant of health, sex/gender inequalities have not been considered comprehensively in environmental health research thus far. The aim of this systematic review was to clarify whether sex/gender theoretical concepts were addressed in studies on the impact of residential green space on self-rated health and whether effect modification by sex/gender was observed. Three electronic databases were searched to identify epidemiological studies on perceived or objective residential green/blue space and self-rated health. Necessary for study inclusion was mentioning at least one keyword for sex/gender in title or abstract, adult study participants and data on self-rated health and on availability and/or use of green/blue spaces. Decisive for study inclusion was consideration of sex/gender differences in the impact of perceived or objective residential green/blue spaces on self-rated health in the analysis and presentation of results. Seven studies were included. They presented an overall positive impact of green space on self-rated health. No consistent sex/gender differences in the impact of green space on self-rated health were found in these studies. However, all studies used a binary operationalization male/female without further theoretical foundation. Research quality could be enhanced by integrating sex/gender-theoretical concepts into study design and interpretation of results.

The majority of studies that analyze the impact of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial attitudes, intentions, and venture activities report positive influences. However, several scholars have recently cast doubts about research methods and the generalizability of entrepreneurship education impact studies. In this study, we conducted a systematic literature review of the methods used in entrepreneurship education impact studies. Our results uncover significant methodological deficiencies and question the overwhelmingly positive impact of entrepreneurship education. Based on this evidence, we propose a series of recommendations to improve the reliability and validity of entrepreneurship education impact studies and we outline promising topics which are currently under-researched.

ObjectivesBecause culture reflects leadership, the making of diverse and inclusive medical schools begins with diversity among leaders. The inclusion of women leaders remains elusive, warranting a systematic exploration of scholarship in this area. We ask: (1) What is the extent of women’s leadership in academic medicine? (2) What factors influence women’s leadership? (3) What is the impact of leadership development programmes?DesignSystematic review.Data sourcesA systematic search of six online databases (OvidMEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, the Cochrane Library and ERIC) from the earliest date available to April 2018 was conducted. Bridging searches were conducted from April 2018 until October 2019.Eligibility criteria(1) Peer-reviewed; (2) English; (3) Quantitative studies (prospective and retrospective cohort, cross-sectional and preintervention/postintervention); evaluating (4) The extent of women’s leadership at departmental, college and graduate programme levels; (5) Factors influencing women’s leadership; (6) Leadership development programmes. Quantitative studies that explored women’s leadership in journal editorial boards and professional societies and qualitative study designs were excluded.Data extraction and synthesisTwo reviewers screened retrieved data of abstracts and full-texts for eligibility, assessment and extracted study-level data independently. The included studies were objectively appraised using the Medical Education Research Quality Study Instrument with an inter-rater reliability of (κ=0.93).ResultsOf 4024 records retrieved, 40 studies met the inclusion criteria. The extent of women’s leadership was determined through gender distribution of leadership positions. Women’s leadership emergence was hindered by institutional requirements such as research productivity and educational credentials, while women’s enactment of leadership was hindered by lack of policy implementation. Leadership development programmes had a positive influence on women’s individual enactment of leadership and on medical schools’ cultures.ConclusionsScholarship on women’s leadership inadvertently produced institute-centric rather than women-centric research. More robust contextualised scholarship is needed to provide practical-recommendations; drawing on existing conceptual frameworks and using more rigorous research methods.

Abstract Background Across countries and cultures, depressive disorders are more common among females than among males; however, the magnitude of gender differences varies between populations and may be a result of different country-specific social policies and cultural factors. This systematic review seeks to synthesise evidence from nationally representative, cross-national studies across Europe (EU-28 plus Switzerland and Norway) and to describe the impact of country-specific factors on gender differences in depression. Methods PubMed, Web of Science, PsycInfo, and Embase were searched through March 2019 for peer-reviewed, nationally representative studies that included at least two European countries, used structured assessment for depressive disorders or symptoms, and reported or allowed for the calculation of gender ratios or differences. No restrictions on language or publication date were applied. Risk of bias was assessed using a tool specifically designed for population-based prevalence studies. Results Twenty-one studies were included in this review, ten of which were based on surveys limited to older populations. Despite the use of different analytical approaches, metrics, scales, and cut-off points, depressive disorders were more common among females than among males in all but a few instances, with substantial variation in the magnitude of gender differences between countries and across studies. There is evidence of smaller gender differences in Northern Europe and greater gender gaps in Southern and Eastern Europe, as well as among older populations. Conclusions Despite methodological heterogeneity between studies, there is evidence that gender differences in depression vary substantially across Europe. These differences may be associated with welfare state regimes and appear to be less pronounced in younger cohorts. Further cross-national research on gender disparities in depression between age groups, birth cohorts, and ethnic subpopulations is warranted. Key messages While depressive disorders are more prevalent among females than among males in virtually all of Europe, the magnitude of gender differences varies substantially between countries. There is some evidence that gender differences in depressive disorders are greater in countries with weaker welfare states and lower macro-level gender equality, as well as among older populations.

ABSTRACTBackground: The majority of people in the early and middle stages of dementia are cared for at home by non-paid caregivers, the majority of whom will be family members. Two factors which could have an impact on the quality of care provided to the care-recipient are the caregiver's motivations for providing care and the meaning s/he finds in caregiving. The aim of this review is to explore the potential impact of both meaning and motivation on the wellbeing of caregivers of people with dementia. The review also explores individual differences in motivations to provide care.Methods: This was a systematic review of peer-reviewed empirical studies exploring motivations and meanings in informal caregivers of people with dementia. Four studies were identified which examined the caregiver's motivations to provide care. Six studies were identified which examined the meaning that caregivers found in dementia caregiving.Results: Caregivers' wellbeing could be influenced by the nature of their motivations to care. In addition, cultural norms and caregivers’ kin-relationship to the care-recipient impacted on motivations to provide care. Finding meaning had a positive impact on caregiver wellbeing.Conclusions: The limited evidence currently available indicates that both the caregiver's motivations to provide care and the meaning s/he finds in caregiving can have implications for the caregiver's wellbeing. More research is needed to explore the role of motivations and meaning in dementia caregiving.

Aims: This systematic review aims to assess the impact of Balanced Scorecard (BSC) implementation at Health Care Organizations (HCOs) on Health Care Workers' (HCWs') satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and financial performance. Up to now, no previous systematic reviews have performed a comprehensive and rigorous methodological approach to figure out the impact of BSC implementation in HCOs. Methods: This systematic review was prepared according to PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Google Scholar databases, as well as Google search engine, were inspected to find all BSC implementations at HCOs until 20 September 2020. Then the resulted articles were screened to find the implementations which measured the impact of BSC on HCWs' satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and financial performance. Quality assessment was performed using the Standards for Reporting Implementation Studies: (StaRI) checklist. Results: Out of 4031 records, 20 articles were finally included for measuring one or more of the three impact types. 17 measured the impact of BSC on patient satisfaction, 7 on HCWs' satisfaction, and 12 on financial performance. Studies with higher quality had a higher positive impact. Conclusion: This paper offers evidence to HCOs and policymakers on the benefits of implementing BSC. BSC implementations showed a positive impact on patient satisfaction and financial performance in HCOs. However, less impact was found on HCWs' satisfaction, which should be given better consideration in future BSC implementations. High and medium-quality BSC studies were associated with higher positive impacts than low ones. BSC can be utilized as an effective tool to improve HCOs' performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The focus on the bank bailout has been increased since the global financial crisis in 2008 in most countries. However, previous studies often discover the relationship between bailout and corporate governance. In this study, bank bailout literature will be reviewed with the focus on the impact of bailout on bank financial performance and bank risk-taking during the financial crisis. Multi-step strategy is used to collect the data from 2000 to 2016. From the 7 papers were chosen based on the criteria. This systematic review has shown that the bank bailout has a positive impact on financial performance, however, it has a negative impact on bank risk-taking for a longer period.

Abstract   Esophagectomy is a complex procedure with associated high levels of morbidity. Rehabilitation programmes are being developed and increasingly utilised in the perioperative period and comprise a variety of physical, nutritional and psychological interventions. Such strategies may help reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, mitigate sarcopenia, prevent progressive frailty and restore quality of life. This systematic review aimed to identify and analyse studies reporting outcomes of post-esophagectomy rehabilitative interventions. Methods Major reference databases (PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and Google scholar) were interrogated and a systematic search with a pre-defined search strategy was performed up until January 2020. All eligible articles were screened in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Study quality was assessed using the MINORS (Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies) criteria for cohort studies and the Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomised studies. Results Three studies (n = 1 pilot study; n = 1 feasibility study and n = 1 randomised controlled trial) including some 108 patients were included in this narrative review, of whom 64 patients had undergone esophagectomy. Rehabilitative strategies utilised included a combination of physical activities such as walking and low- to moderate-intensity exercises, dietary counselling, psychological support and occupational therapy input. There was wide variation in the outcomes assessed between studies. Postoperative physical activity with exercises consistently demonstrated maximum positive impact upon cardiopulmonary fitness. The median MINORS score for included studies was 9 (8-10) and the risk of bias in the included randomised trial was low. Conclusion There is a paucity of data currently to help determine the impact that rehabilitation may have on clinical outcomes and quality of life following esophagectomy. While improved physical function has been demonstrated, there is a need to determine which interventions patients deem most important and acceptable to help them return to as close to baseline as possible. Additionally, there is a need to further understand the impact rehabilitation may have upon long-term outcomes.

Abstract Background Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for the development of several pathologies besides the cervical cancer and HPV vaccination is a key strategy for primary prevention. The aim of this research was to identify strategies adopted to increase HPV vaccination coverage among the adolescents. Methods A systematic review was carried-out by searching electronic databases (Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of Science) using selected keywords as “papillomavirus vaccine”, “vaccination strategy” and “efficacy”. Articles conducted in high-income countries and evaluating the impact of one or more strategies on vaccination coverage (initiation e/o completion) in adolescents were included. Results Out of 3571 single citations screened, 42 papers (2011-2018) were included. Study size ranged from 50 to 325229 individuals. The major part of the studies was from the United States (n = 35; 83,3%) and conducted with an experimental design (n = 17; 40,5%). The evaluated outcomes included first dose uptake, schedule completion, vaccination timeliness and the number of administered doses. Identified strategies included reminds (9), education activities (9), multicomponent strategies (22) and others (2) and were focused on adolescents/parents and/or healthcare providers. Significant positive results were reported in seven studies (77,8%) evaluating the impact of reminds, four studies (44,4%) on education strategies, and in 12 studies (54,5%) on multicomponent strategies. Offering vaccination in “bundle” or during any medical visit was also reported as significantly effective. Conclusions Increasing the vaccination coverage is essential to achieve HPV-related diseases control. Several types of strategies are available and showed a positive impact on vaccination uptake, in particular those relied on reminds. Nonetheless, the heterogeneity of interventions suggests the importance to adapt such initiatives to the specific context in order to maximize the improvement in vaccination uptake. Key messages Several types of strategies to increase vaccination uptake are available at international level and showed a positive impact among adolescents. These interventions are heterogeneous suggesting the importance of their adaptation to the specific context in order to gain the maximum improvement in vaccination uptake.
