The aim of this study was to explore and construct spatial indicators suitable for green café ambience. The indicators were further empirically verified. A three-round questionnaire survey, based on the Delphi method, was conducted with 15 experts, including university professors (food and beverage services management and interior environmental design), café operators, and personnel from government agencies. Data were collected, and the results on the characteristics of the repeated feedback from the experts were convergent. Thirty-six indicators suitable for the design of green café ambience were extracted, of which 17 were verified by actual cafés as highly operable. The five-sense indicators of sustainable green ambience design obtained in this study can facilitate positive customer experiences and enhance the appeal of maintaining sustainable green trends for cafés. These indicators can also provide references for café operators in business planning and green café ambience design.

Contemporary urbanists and architects are faced with the problem of adapting degraded post-communist neighbourhoods to the current needs of their inhabitants. Most of those housing estates need rehabilitation which is understood as an aspiration for reconstruction of settlement’s range as a human-friendly environment and regain it’s lost values. A CPTED strategy could be very helpful to define guidelines for the rehabilitation. Based on Crime Prevention through Environmental Design strategy the features of space like natural surveillance, space clarity, territoriality, the feeling of responsibility for public space and management can affect it’s quality. These aspects were very useful set of criteria for the author to try to express guidelines for the rehabilitation of the housing estate in Pabianice. Methods used in the research included physical inventory of the neighbourhood and questionnaire survey among the sample of 100 inhabitants of the analysed area. Conclusions from the use of both mentioned methods are well supplementing each other and are pointing the most severe spatil and social problems in the area. This how the environment of the housing estate looks like in the eyes of it’s inhabitants and visitors were crucial while shaping guidelines for rehabilitation

Tioman Island in Malaysia was once voted one of the most beautiful islands in the world. However, this ranking has gradually slipped, due to development and poor environmental management of the island. The authors employ the stakeholder theory in examining the perceptions of four stakeholder groups (tourists, local residents, government agencies, and business operators) on the environmental problems faced on the island and to identify the parties jointly responsible for solving these problems. A total of 15 problems were identified from 46 exploratory interviews conducted prior to the questionnaire survey. A questionnaire was constructed based on the interview data, and 320 questionnaires were collected from the four stakeholder groups. The results provide support that different stakeholder groups identify different problems and they perceived responsibility for solving these problems. The findings also indicated that problems related to limited road access, neglect of local community, limited phone and internet access, and dirty beaches needed immediate attention.

Introduction. One kind of mental work is the work of teachers. The combination of university professors’ labor activity of high social responsibility, social discomfort, low physical activity (PA) in university professors’ training causes high tension and, in some places, overstrain of the systems of regulation of vegetative functions. Aim of the study: the influence of physical activity on the health indices of university professors. Material and methods. Objects of study: professors (teachers) of Surgut State University (RF): of general profile (low physical activity) and sports profile (high PA). Authors applied physiological, questionnaire, statistical methods. Results. The questionnaire survey and showings of pedometer showed that for general teachers PA is much lower than for teachers of sports profile. The low percentage of teachers with a bodyweight index that qualifies for ‘normal’ proved the low PA. Among the reasons for low PA, teachers note a lack of time and high overload. Low PA is detrimental to health outcomes. Low PA affects the resistance of the organism, in particular the incidence. According to a questionnaire survey, 52.1% of general profile teachers reported having problems with the cardiovascular system, while 23.0% of sports profile teachers had the same diseases. General profile teachers in educational activities show a higher level of functional stress of the cardiovascular system. Low PA causes an imbalance of the ergotropic and trophotropic systems in the central nervous system. Simultaneously, sports profile teachers have more activation of the ergotropic system to induce adaptation mechanisms in general profile teachers using hypokinesia to activate the ergotropic system aimed at sanogenesis. Conclusion. Low PA reduces the functional activity of organs and systems, violates the regulatory mechanisms that ensure their relationship, which may affect the organism resistance by various adverse factors.

Abstract This paper presents ‘expert opinions’ on what should be taught in a first-year linear algebra course at university; the aim is to gain a generic picture and general guiding principles for such a course. Drawing on a Delphi method, 14 university professors—called ‘experts’ in this study—addressed the following questions: What should be on a first-year linear algebra undergraduate course for engineering and/or mathematics students? How could such courses be taught? What tools (if any) are essential to these two groups of students? The results of the investigation, these experts’ opinions, mainly concern what should be in a linear algebra course (e.g. problem-solving and applications) and what students should be able to do. The experts also emphasized that certain theoretical aspects (e.g. proofs, abstract structures, definitions and relationships) were more important to mathematics students. There was no real consensus among the experts on teaching methods or the use of digital tools, but this lack of consensus is interesting in itself. The results are discussed in relation to extant research.

The principal function of the SEG Geophysical Activity Committee is to gather and compile statistics on worldwide geophysical activity. Statistics are primarily obtained through the survey questionnaire which is mailed out at the beginning of the year to over 1500 companies, government agencies, and universities engaged in geophysical work. This year the returned questionnaires included information on more than 1400 geophysical surveys. All activity is not reported through the questionnaire survey; other methods are used to estimate missing data. Each member of the committee is responsible for a geographical area or a specific application. Committee members are thoroughly familiar with the area on which they report. Each member provides appropriate corrections to make the quantitative picture one that his knowledge and experience tell him it should be. The statistics reported on the questionnaire are thus augmented with company scouting reports, reports of scouting services, and by comparison with other published surveys.

Abstract Culture shapes our basic sensory experience of the world. This is particularly striking in the study of religion and psychosis, where we and others have shown that cultural context determines both the structure and content of hallucination-like events. The cultural shaping of hallucinations may provide a rich case-study for linking cultural learning with emerging prediction-based models of perception.
