In the wake of the acceleration of China’s industrialization and rapid economic growth, environmental pollution has also attracted great attention. The technological innovation of heavily polluting enterprises is conducive to reducing pollution emissions and promoting environmental health. The financial investment tendency and behavior of real enterprises have a significant impact on the technological innovation decision-making of enterprises. A panel model is used in this paper in order to empirically test the impact of financialization of Chinese heavily polluting enterprises on technological innovation based on the data of Listed Companies in Chinese heavily polluting industries from 2008 to 2019. The + results show that the financialization of heavily polluting enterprises has a significant crowding out effect on technological innovation. After introducing arbitrage motivation as the regulating variable, further research finds that arbitrage motivation weakens the inhibitory effect of enterprise financialization on technological innovation, that is, the stronger the arbitrage motivation, the smaller the negative effect of financialization on enterprise technological innovation, which weakens this crowding out effect. Finally, the listed enterprises in heavily polluting industries are divided into state-owned enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises according to their corporate attributes. Compared with state-owned enterprises, the financialization of non-state-owned enterprises has a greater squeeze out of technological innovation; and arbitrage motivation has a more significant regulatory effect on the impact of enterprise financialization on technological innovation.

Based on the provincial panel data from 2003 to 2015, this paper empirically investigates the impact of technological innovation on environmental pollution, and explores the moderating role of Internet development in this impact. It is found that technological innovation has a significant inhibitory effect on regional environmental pollution. The development level of the Internet has a significant regulating effect on the process of technological innovation affecting environmental pollution, which is manifested in that the improvement of the Internet development level can further enhance the inhibiting effect of technological innovation on environmental pollution and promote regional energy conservation and emission reduction. Based on the above analysis, this paper puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.

With the increasingly prominent problems of global resource consumption and environmental pollution, industrial green transformation has become one of the requirements of China’s industrial development in the new era. However, there is a lack of research on the impact of technological innovation and technology introduction on the industrial green transformation of resource-based cities. To bridge this gap, this study uses the panel data of 115 resource-based cities in China from 2003 to 2016, and uses the dynamic panel generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation method to study the impact of technological innovation and technology introduction on industrial green transformation of resource-based cities. The results show that technology introduction has a negative effect on the industrial green transformation of resource-based cities, while technological innovation can have a positive effect. Meanwhile, technology introduction has imparted a greater role to technological innovation in promoting this transformation. In addition, the interactive effects between technological innovation and technology introduction have obvious heterogeneity on the industrial green transformation of different types of resource-based cities. Therefore, resource-based cities should continue to increase investment in scientific research, to constantly improve and consolidate their technological innovation ability, optimize foreign investment strategy in technology introduction, and strengthen the digestion and absorption of imported technology, while increasing technological innovation and personnel training.

Abstract The employment effect of enterprises embedded in global value chains has important theoretical value, but existing research has ignored the impact of cross-border pollution transfer on employment under the division of labor system within the value chain. This study constructs a global environmental value chain (GEVC) analysis framework to combine economic and environmental issues and establishes a theoretical model to discuss the impact of the degree of enterprise embeddedness in the GEVC on employment. Using 2000–2006 data from the China Industry Business Performance and China Customs databases, the study finds that an increase in the degree of enterprise embeddedness has a significant inhibitory effect on employment, especially for female laborers, lower-skilled laborers, state-owned enterprises, private enterprises, and enterprises in the eastern region. The research also shows that the cost increase effect enhances the negative effect of increased GEVC embeddedness on employment, while the innovation promotion effect and the foreign direct investment effect serve to mitigate the negative effect. The results provide a reference for developing countries seeking to effectively protect people's livelihood and employment while achieving a leap in the division of labor along the green value chain.

Academic stress can have a negative effect on a student's cognitive, emotional and behavioural well-being. Furthermore, academic stress could also cause a decline in student’s academic performance. Therefore, it is necessary for the student to be able to cope and relieve stress. Religious coping strategies are one of the effective ways in overcoming academic stress. This study was aimed to explore and understand students' experiences of religious coping methods when facing academic stress. A qualitative method by using interview was used. A total of five respondents from the public universities were involved. The data from interviews were analysed by using thematic analysis from five respondents. This study discovered three specific religious coping behaviour that was employed to cope with academic stress; 1) worship in the heart, 2) worship verbally and, 3) worship by action. It has also identified three themes on the impact of religious coping on 1) cognitive, 2) emotional and 3) behaviour. From this study, it can be concluded that specific religious coping behavior which had been used by the students is helpful for them in coping with academic stress. The knowledge and awareness of the internal and external stressors also can help the students to identify the best solution and coping mechanism to manage the stress. These coping behaviours also help the students to have a better understanding of how religious coping can affect students in terms of cognitive, emotion and behavior.

The aim of this study is to choose and estimate the effect of foreign investments in engine for economic growth and hence poverty reduction in the developing countries. The study concluded that there is a weak effect of non-moral of foreign investments on decreasing unemployment in the developing countries, regardless of the existence or absence of development. In addition, the study concluded with a negative effect for the total local production on unemployment and poverty. Finally, we concluded that this may be a result of profit repatriation of foreign firms, crowding out of domestic investment because of FDI or low level of human capital in the country.Consequently, the study recommended to despite how desirable the inflow of FDI is to developing countries, care should be taken when attracting foreign investments and they should be directed to the productive sectors of the economy. Also government should create a competitive environment so as to maximize the benefits of FDI because by exposing foreign investors to an even playing field with indigenous investors.

Based on the perspective of regional differences and decentralization, this article investigated the impact of environmental regulations on Taiwanese investment in mainland China from theoretical and empirical perspectives, and analyzed whether local governments are competing to lower environmental standards to attract Taiwanese investment so as to maintain their comparative advantages. This paper constructed a theoretical model through a two-stage game model. With the panel data of each province in Mainland China from 2006 to 2016, the theoretical propositions were empirically tested through the system GMM estimation method. The results show that the environmental regulation policies adopted by the local governments in the mainland have a significant inhibitory effect on the investment volume of Taiwan-funded enterprises, and the interaction between environmental regulations and local tax burden levels also has a negative effect on Taiwanese investment. Local governments have the motive to reduce environmental regulations to attract investment.

Using a panel of 31 Chinese provinces from 2000 to 2016, we investigated the impact of population ageing and financial deepening on economic growth. Based on the dynamic panel system GMM estimators, the empirical results address that both population ageing and financial deepening have a significantly positive impact on economic growth, while the interactions between them have a significantly negative effect on economic growth. From the perspective of total marginal effect, we also find that population ageing does contribute to economic growth but only when financial deepening is less than a threshold level; however, on the whole, financial deepening has an inhibitory effect on economic growth which increases with population ageing.

This study uses data from a sample of 31,948 European innovating firms to examine the impact that knowledge-related barriers to technological innovation have on the link between the level of such innovation and firm performance, and, to investigate the role of “exploitative” and “explorative” organisational strategies in moderating such impact. Exploitative strategies are measured by the level of organisational innovations, and exploratory strategies are measured by the level of methods for fostering workplace creativity. Using moderated hierarchical regression, the results reveal a negative effect of the interaction between technological innovation and related knowledge constraints on firm performance. They also reveal that the negative interaction effect becomes positive at high levels of organisational innovations and creativity-fostering methods. The study findings thus indicate the need for managers of technologically innovative firms to implement both exploitative and explorative organisational strategies. Doing so could help minimise the negative effects of knowledge-related barriers to technological innovation, and in turn promote innovation-based competitiveness and business success.

Based on the panel data of 18 heavy polluting industries from 34 industrial industries in my country as samples, empirical analysis of the impact of environmental regulations, energy structure, enterprise scale, corporate competitiveness, and technological innovation on carbon emissions of heavy polluting industries. And by constructing a dynamic GMM model to analyze the lag effect of environmental regulations on carbon emissions. The results show that: environmental regulations have a significant negative effect on carbon emissions, and the previous environmental regulations have a restraining effect on carbon emissions in the current period; energy structure will increase carbon emissions; technological innovation, enterprise scale, corporate competitiveness, etc. affect carbon emissions Has a negatively significant effect.

Whether the new energy vehicle pilot policy (NEVPP) can achieve green innovation and emission reduction is an important exploration for China to achieve green and sustainable development. This research aims to empirically investigate the impact, impact mechanism, and heterogeneity characteristics of the NEVPP on urban green innovation and emission reduction based on panel data from 281 cities in China from 2004 to 2017, using difference-in-differences (DID) methods and fixed effect (FE) models. The results show that the NEVPP significantly reduces the carbon dioxide emissions of the pilot cities but significantly inhibits the green innovation, and the results are robust to the placebo test, propensity score matching DID (PSM-DID) test, instrumental variable (IV) estimation, emissions trading system (ETS), and Carbon-ETS interference test, and change of the dependent variable. In addition, further studies have shown that the NEVPP’s emission reduction effects are mainly achieved by reducing energy consumption, promoting technological innovation, and adjusting industrial structure. Moreover, we found that the NEVPP performed better in the regions where the level of economic development is high, the local government has a good relationship with the market, and the level of non-state economic development is high. In general, our research results show that the NEVPP has achieved innovation and emission reduction policy effects in China, but it is also accompanied by an inhibitory effect on green technological innovation.
