A bio-radar system is presented for vital signs acquisition, using textile antennas manufactured with a continuous substrate that integrates the ground plane. Textile antennas were selected to be used in the RF (Radio Frequency) front-end, rather than those made of conventional materials, to further integrate the system in a car seat cover and thus streamline the industrial manufacturing process. The development of the novel substrate material is described in detail, as well as its characterization process. Then, the antenna design considerations are presented. The experiments to validate the textile antennas operation by acquiring the respiratory signal of six subjects with different body structures while seated in a car seat are presented. In conclusion, it was possible to prove that bio-radar systems can operate with textile-based antennas, providing accurate results of the extraction of vital signs.

A tree shaped fractal antenna with U shaped slot and W-shaped slot has been designed and analyzed in this article by using ANSYS elec-tromagnetic desktop 17. The proposed antenna is analyzed taking FR4 substrate is taken as the substrate material. The proposed antenna exhibits multiband characteristics (2.75-3.17GHz, 4.1-4.8GHz, 5.1-5.3GHz and 5.4-6.3GHz, 7.21-12.8GHz) in the Ultra-wide band region. The path that is radiating by superposition of the rectangular patches and multiple-band operating frequency is obtained by increasing the U-shapes slots and w-shaped slot on the patch. The improvement in the impedance characteristics between the adjacent frequencies is achieved by using defected ground structure (DGS) on the ground plane as to cover the region of UWB application (3.1-10.6GHz). The proposed antenna works in the applications like Wi-Max, Weather forecasting RADAR systems and WLAN.

Background: Patch antennas are composed of the substrate material with patch and ground plane on the both sides of the substrate. The dimensions and performance characteristics of the antenna are highly influenced by the choice of the appropriate substrate depending upon the value of their dielectric constant. Generally, low index substrate materials are used to design the patch antenna but there are also some of the applications, which require the implementation of patch antenna design on high index substrate like silicon and gallium arsenide. Objective: The objective of this article is to review the design of antennas developed on high index substrate and the problems associated with the use of these materials as substrate. Also, main challenges and solutions have been discussed to improve the performance characteristics while using the high index substrates. Method: The review article has divided into various sections including the solution of the problems associated with the high index substrates in the form of micro-machining process. Along with this, types of micro machining and their applications have discussed in detail. Results: This review article investigates the various patch antennas designed with micro-machining technology and also discusses the impact of micro-machining process on the performance parameters of the patch antennas designed on high index substrates. Conclusion: By using the micro-machining process, the performance of patch antenna improves drastically but fabrication and tolerances at such minute structures is very tedious task for the antenna designers.

Abstract A compact circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna is presented for modern communication systems. The prospective antenna consists of a microstrip-line inset-fed rectangular patch and a defected ground plane. A rotated rectangular slot and a modified electric-inductive-capacitive (m-ELC) resonator are introduced in the patch and the ground plane to achieve multiband behaviour. A corner of the radiating patch is truncated and an arrow-shaped stub is introduced for generating circular polarization. The physical area of the substrate is 0.26λ0 × 0.22λ0, and the radiator size is 0.16λ0 × 0.14λ0, where λ0 is the free-space wavelength estimated at the lowest frequency. The measured (S11≤-10 dB) bandwidths of the antenna are 80 MHz (3.58%) at 2.23 GHz, 75 MHz (2.64%) at 2.84 GHz, 80 MHz (2.50%) at 3.19 GHz, and 70 MHz (1.82%) at 3.83 GHz. The measured 3-dB axial ratio bandwidths are 40 MHz (1.41%), 100 MHz (3.12%), and 60 MHz (1.57%) at 2.84, 3.20 and 3.82 GHz, respectively. The proposed planar antenna design does not need dual-feed or multi-layered patches for achieving multiple CP bands. It offers easy integration with the printed circuits of the communication systems.

A spectrum-sensing algorithm is used to detect the available and the occupied frequency bands. The wideband antenna design approach is used for a microstrip fed monopole antenna that can be used for various wireless technologies such as GSM, UMTS, LTE, and WiFi operating at different frequencies from 1.25 to 3 GHz. The antenna is constructed from two copper layers of rectangular radiator and a partial ground plane. These layers are printed on an RO4003 substrate with dimensions 60 x 80 mm2. The antenna is experimentally fabricated to verify the simulation predictions and good matching between simulated and measured results is achieved. The wide-band antenna is tested by connecting it to the receiver of the Blade-RF Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform. A matlab script is then used to control the SDR board and to perform Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio Applications.

Abstract A novel design of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed antenna array with circular polarization (CP) and a high front-to-back ratio is described. The proposed CP array is achieved by using a compact CPW–slotline transition network etched in the ground plane. The measured results show that this kind of feeding method can improve the impedance bandwidth, as well as the axial ratio bandwidth of the CP antenna array and provide adequate gain. The proposed array can achieve a 6.08% impedance bandwidth and a 4.10% CP bandwidth. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed.

Purpose: We introduce the novel treatment technique, scalene injection, and study its clinical efficacy for diagnosis, treatment, and pain control for patients with thoracic outlet syndrome. Methods: Between November 2001 and October 2018, 266 patients were studied retrospectively. To evaluate the efficacy and sustainability, we checked the numerical rating scale (NRS) for pain relief and neck disability index (NDI) for functional improvements, prior to and 1, 12 weeks after the injection. The safety was evaluated by examining side effects for at least 24 hours from the point of injection. Results: NRS was improved from 7.12 to 3.11 at 1 week, and to 3.05 at 12 weeks (p<0.05). NDI was improved from 15.87 to 6.15 at 1 week, and to 6.19 at 12 weeks (p<0.05). There were two cases of convulsion immediately after the injection and were treated with prompt oxygen supply and sedatives. Transient side effects included two cases of dyspnea and one case of nausea and were resolved within 1 hour after. All five cases showed symptoms of side effects on the day of injection and were resolved within a day. A total of 242 patients (91.0%) experienced immediate declines in NRS and 161 patients experienced persistent declines for more than 12 weeks. However, 24 patients (9.0%) showed no improvement and 20 patients (7.5%) experienced increases in NRS.Conclusion: Scalene injection is also effective as a therapeutic method. However, this study suggests that it must be done with monitoring of vital signs in an operating room for any possible complications and side effects.

The suggested system utilizes an inverted F metal zipper to act as an antenna. Here we have proposed an antenna which is designed using HFSS software in order to assure safety of women. The antenna design is carried out in three layers namely Ground plane, substrate and patch. Copper is used as ground and patch and substrate is made of FR4 material. The feeding point is identified at the bottom of the zipper, nearby one of the teeth. Simulations and measurements are made with HFSS. Changes in the radiations styles and the reflections coefficients happens when there is any disturbance in the teeth. The zipper constantly remains closed. The antenna will function even if the zipper is partially opened or closed. The suggested model remains as reconfigurable, particularly for radiation styles and also possess high gain value. The measured values give proper results based on simulations in terms of matching functionalities and radiation properties for the designed zipper, which acts as a good wireless product for women safety. This antenna design can be used in various applications when it is interfaced with some embedded system devices like GPS in order to find the location of the affected person and the material onto which it is going to be placed can also be made flexible that is, it can be used as Zip in dress material, hand bag, or can also be worn as an ornament.
