This study demonstrates the feasibility of a novel casting process called tailored additive casting (TAC). The TAC process involves injecting the melt several times to fabricate a single component, with a few seconds of holding between successive injections. Using TAC, we can successfully produce commercial-grade automotive steering knuckles with a tensile strength of 383 ± 3 MPa and an elongation percentage of 10.7 ± 1.1%, from Al 6061 alloys. To produce steering knuckles with sufficient mechanical strength, the composition of an Al 6061 alloy is optimized with the addition of Zr, Zn, and Cu as minor elements. These minor elements influence the thermal properties of the melt and alloy, such as their thermal stress, strain rate, shrinkage volume, and porosity. Optimal conditions for heat treatment before and after forging further improve the mechanical strength of the steering knuckles produced by TAC followed by forging.

This work studied the effect of tin (1%Sn) addition in brass 60%Cu+40%Zn (commercial grade) by casting process conducted poured melt metals inside a sand mould and heat treatment in cast brass on microstructure and mechanical properties for solving the cracking of nut and bolt. Three conditions of brass sample for experiment viz.- brass 60%Cu + 40%Zn (commercial grade), brass 60%Cu + 39%Zn+1%Sn (as-cast) and brass 60%Cu+39% Zn+1%Sn (precipitation hardening). The microstructure of specimens all condition, it was found that consists of α phase and β phase. Which brass addition 1% Sn, the β phase content in α phase matrix structure more than brass commercial grade. For microstructure of brass produce by precipitation hardening, shape of α phase are slender and long which have slight distributed in β-phase. The mechanicals properties, that is hardness, ultimate tensile strength and compressive strength. It was found that the brass 60%Cu+39% Zn+1%Sn (precipitation hardening), all test mechanical properties it was higher than the all samples condition. This results can be explain incharacterization of microstructure to gives deformation of copper alloy.

The article presents results of a study of phase composition and microstructure of initial material and samples obtained by selective laser melting of titanium-based alloy, as well as samples after heat treatment. The effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of specimens was shown. It was studied mechanical behavior of manufactured specimens before and after heat treatment at room and elevated temperatures as well. The heat treatment allows obtaining sufficient mechanical properties of material at room and elevated temperatures such as increase in ductility of material. The fractography of samples showed that they feature ductile fracture with brittle elements.

Hydrogen zeolite was modified with CeO2 by impregnation - filtration - heat treatment. Hydrogen-zeolite samples before and after modification were characterized by XRD and SEM. The catalytic efficiency of modified hydrogen-zeolite was investigated. Such modification conditions were explored: as the CeO2 percentage, calcination temperature, calcination time, impregnation temperature. The results show that the optimal CeO2 percentage is 0.5%, calcination temperature is 600°C, calcination time is 2h, impregnation temperature is 75°C. The aspirin yield reaches 78.3% under the optimal conditions, compared with that (64.8%) catalyzed by sulfuric acid and that (70.4%) catalyzed by unmodified zeolite. XRD, SEM characterizations show that Ce ions can be doped into the zeolite framework. And the modification makes the zeolite particle size become smaller, which is reduced to 50.5nm from 56.76nm. A high efficient and eco-enviromently catalyst was got by modification.

The liquid forging process has the flexibilities of casting in forming intricate profiles and features while imparting the liquid forged components with superior mechanical strength compared to similar components obtained via casting. Additionally, liquid forging requires significantly lower machine loads compared to solid forming processes. Currently, components that are formed by liquid forging are usually casting alloys of aluminum. This paper investigates the suitability of liquid forging a wrought aluminum alloy Al-6061 and the mechanical properties after forming. The proper handling of the Al-6061 alloy in its molten state is important in minimizing oxidation of its alloying elements. By maintaining the correct alloying composition of Al-6061 after liquid forging, these Al-6061 samples can subsequently undergo a suitable heat treatment process to significantly improve their yield strengths. Results show that the yield strengths of these liquid forged Al-6061 samples can be increased from about 90MPa, when they are in the as-liquid forged state, to about 275MPa after heat treatment. This improved yield strength is comparable to that of Al-6061 samples obtained by solid forming processes. As such, the liquid forging process here has been shown to be capable of forming wrought aluminum alloy components that has the potential for structural applications.

Small button ingots of Ti2AlNb alloys with different contents of Mo, V and Zr were melted by vacuum non-consumable arc furnace. Due to the rapid cooling rate during melting process, only β grains without precipitation were observed in most of the button ingots and no regular phenomenon was found. However, when the samples were heated to β phase region and then furnace cooled to room temperate, different morphologies and quantities of primary α phase and second O phase formed from the β grains of different samples. It is suggested that the morphology of α phase was changed from lamellar to quadrilateral with increasing V and the lath O increased with increasing Zr. Besides, the residual β/B2 phase increased with increasing Mo and V. The EDS results showed that Al and Zr were enriched in α phase whereas Nb, Mo and V were enriched in β/B2 phase. The micro-hardness of these samples before and after heat treatment was detected and the micro-hardness increased with increasing Zr and decreasing Mo and V.

Nickel-Boron autocatalytic coatings are widely used in several industries to improve mechanical properties of materials such as hardness and wear resistance. Tribological properties were evaluated in Ni-B autocatalytic coatings deposited on AISI/SAE 1018 carbon steel before and after a heat treatment at 450 °C for one hour. Tribological tests were carried out by dry sliding, using a load of 5 N and a sliding speed of 0.012 m/s, in a homemade ball-on-disk tribometer, which followed ASTM G99 standard. According to the tribological evaluation, the heat treatments applied to Ni-B coatings improved their tribological performance. This research corroborates that by applying an adequate heat treatment, hardness and wear resistance of Ni-B coatings can be improved significantly.

Bulky sample was made by using TIG wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology, in which Ф1.6 mm filler wire of in-situ TiB2/Al-Si composites was selected as deposition metal, following by T6 heat treatment. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the bulky sample before and after heat treatment were analyzed. Experimental results showed that the texture of the original samples parallel to the weld direction and perpendicular to the weld direction was similar consisting of columnar dendrites and equiaxed crystals. After T6 heat treatment, the hardness of the sample was increased to 115.85 HV from 62.83 HV, the yield strength of the sample was 273.33 MPa, the average tensile strength was 347.33 MPa, and the average elongation after fracture was 7.96%. Although pore defects existed in the fracture, yet the fracture of the sample was ductile fracture.

Effects of annealing treatment on microstructure and the compressive properties of hot-worked Ti-45Al-8Nb-(W, B, Y) alloy were investigated. Microstructure of the extrusion plus multi-step forging pancake before and after heat treatment was analyzed by SEM and TEM, respectively. The annealing was conducted by holding samples at 1100°C for 2hrs, and followed by air cooling and furnace cooling. The mechanical properties were measured by Instron test machine. The microstructure evolution during compressive deformation was analyzed by TEM. The results showed that after the annealing the microstructure change could not be observed under SEM but can be observed under TEM. Many dislocation clusters were removed by heat treatment. The heat treated samples had similar compression behaviors with the pancake. TEM investigation showed that the numerous twin intersections occured in γ matrix during compression. The twin spaces tended to decrease as the deformation and the intersection increasing.

This work deals with the examination of the mechanical properties of Aluminium (LM6) reinforced with iron oxide (Fe2O3). Stir casting process is used to formulate the composite sampling by varying iron oxide in 5% and 10% by weight. Three different heat treatment process of hardening, annealing and normalizing is carried out on samples of aluminium (LM6), aluminium (LM6) + 5% Fe2O3 and aluminium (LM6) + 10% Fe2O3. Composite specimens are tested to analyze the mechanical properties such as hardness, yield stress, tensile strength and elongation. Present reinforcement specks enabled the alloy to preserve higher hardness during the heat treatment. Results have shown substantial improvements in properties of the specimens with various compositions of reinforcement.

The article presents the results of selective laser melting of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. It was studied phase composition and microstructure of the initial powder material, the specimens manufactured by Selective Laser Melting and also the specimens after heat treatment. The effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of the specimens was shown. It was studied the mechanical behavior of the manufactured specimens before and after heat treatment at room and elevated temperatures as well. After heat treatment tests showed that the specimens have decent mechanical properties both at room and elevated temperatures.
