The rapid development of online car-hailing services (OCSs) has a huge impact on traditional taxi service (TTS) and is triggering a revolution in the taxi industry. Due to the differences in age, monthly income level, etc., travelers’ using frequencies of taxi service are different. It is necessary for online car-hailing platforms and traditional taxi companies to know the choice behavior of different types of passengers to enhance competitiveness. Based on the survey data of taxi passengers in Nanjing, China, the passengers are characterized by using frequency per week as infrequent passengers, moderately frequent passengers, and frequent passengers. The group characteristics and the differences among groups are analyzed. Further, three binary logit models are applied to analyze the taxi service choice behavior of different groups. The model results show the significant factors vary among three types of passengers. The result indicates that the impacts of safety level improvement, comfort level improvement and travel cost reduction for OCS on passengers’ choice behavior are higher than that of safety level decreasing, comfort level decreasing, and travel cost increasing. Moderately frequent passengers are more sensitive to comfort level than travel cost. The conclusions contribute to both the OCS and TTS business strategies. The results also provide insights into taxi industry management for governments.

In some cities, the zoning operation in taxi service leads to the difference in load ratio and empty return rate in their limited zones. Therefore, some negative phenomena appear such as the instability of drivers’ income and drivers negotiate the price without taximeter. In order to keep a balance between enhancing the drivers’ profit and protecting the passengers’ interests, establishing a differential pricing model based on the characteristics of taxi service in different zones. The operation areas, trip intensity and trip distribution have been taken into consideration about different taxi service zones in the model.

As the parcel delivery service is booming in China, the competition among express companies intensifies. This paper employed multinomial logit model (MNL) and latent class model (LCM) to investigate customers’ express service choice behavior, using data from a SP survey. The attributes and attribute levels that matter most to express customers are identified. Meanwhile, the customers are divided into two segments (penny pincher segment and high-end segment) characterized by their taste heterogeneity. The results indicate that the LCM performs statistically better than MNL in our sample. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the taste heterogeneity, especially for further academic and policy research in freight choice behavior.

In recent years, there has been rapid development in bicycle-sharing systems (BSS) in China. Moreover, such schemes are considered promising solutions to the first/last mile problem. This study investigates the mode choice behaviors of travelers for first/last mile trips before and after the introduction of bicycle-sharing systems. Travel choice models for first/last mile trips are determined using a multinomial logit model. It also analyzes the differences in choice behavior between the young and other age groups. The findings show that shared bicycles become the preferred mode, while travelers preferred walking before bicycle-sharing systems were implemented. Gender, bicycle availability, and travel frequency were the most significant factors before the implementation of bicycle-sharing systems. However, after implementation, access distance dramatically affects mode choices for first/last mile trips. When shared bicycles are available, the mode choices of middle-aged group depend mainly on gender and access distance. All factors are not significant for the young and aged groups. More than 80% of public transport travelers take walking and shared bicycles as feeder modes. The proposed models and findings contribute to a better understanding of travelers’ choice behaviors and to the development of solutions for the first/last mile problem.

<p>In Tunisia, date-palm cultivation and production are of clear strategic importance in terms of economic, social and environmental development. However, the globalization of markets has had a huge impact on the traditional concept of the comparative advantage enjoyed by Tunisia in date exports, highlighting the necessary determinants for competitiveness in the international scenario. In fact, an analysis of the competitive advantage of the Tunisian date industry in the Mediterranean area and Iran over the last 20 years shows that Tunisia is still the main supplier of dates to the EU. The Deglet-Nour variety, in particular, puts Tunisia ahead of traditional competitors such as Algeria and Iran, with average of competitiveness indices as BIS 6405.99, DI 17.38, CMS 41.04 and TBI 99.50 are more stable than those countries during the studied period. But it is currently facing new competitors like Israel and re-exporting countries like France. New business strategies (conditioning, new non-chemical treatments, packing, opening new markets, new distribution channels) would be positive responses to tackle current market limitations, the emergence of new producers and restrictive EU policies.</p>

The article presents data about the history of phlebology development in the period from XV to XX centuries – the key time of the establishment of medicine, the most important discoveries and breakthroughs. In the Middle ages the development of surgery, particularly in Europe, slowed considerably, due to the dominance of the Church and the introduction of various restrictions. However, the stagnation of the Middle ages gave way to the flowering of the Renaissance – a time of rapid development of art, science and technology. Gradually surgery were included in University education, and this marked the beginning of further improvement. XVII-XVIII centuries can be considered the time of completion of the empirical approach in surgery. In this period the development of phlebology has had a huge impact discoveries in physiology, histology, pathological anatomy and clinical medicine. A crucial period in medicine began XIX-XX centuries – asepsis and antisepsis, general and local anaesthesia, techniques of blood transfusion etc. was opened. The development of phlebology in this period was influenced by such scholars as Jerome Fabrizi, Ambroise Paré, Max Schede, Alexei Trojans, Friedrich Trendelenburg, Georg, Perthes, Albert Narath, William Wayne Babcock, Otto Wilhelm Madelung, Emil Theodor Kocher, etc. The article describes their contribution to the history of phlebology.
