Banks attempt to invest in emerging financial technology (FinTech), such as blockchain, to enhance competitiveness. There is a great deal of literature on the technical and legal aspects of blockchain. However, there is little specific guidance on how banks can apply a holistic model to evaluate the blockchain-based business. This study proposes a hybrid decision model with confidence-weighted fuzzy assessments to address this valuable research topic. Supported by a group of seasoned experts, five major blockchain-based business models are evaluated for a domestic bank in Taiwan. The key findings contribute to understanding the importance of the involved factors and identifying the ideal business strategy for the bank. The result suggests that the most crucial dimension is policies and regulations, not the technical capability of banks.

Banking has always played an important role in the economy because of its effects on individuals as well as on the economy. In the process of renovation and modernization of the country, the system of commercial banks has changed dramatically. Business models and services have become more diversified. Therefore, the performance of commercial banks is always attracting the attention of managers, supervisors, banks and customers. Bank ranking can be viewed as a multi-criteria decision model. This article uses the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method to rank some commercial banks in Vietnam.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the importance and means of making corporate social responsibility (CSR) an integral part of corporate strategy with the help of case studies. Design/methodology/approach – The article explores the transformation of business from being egocentric to socially responsible. With the use of examples it demonstrates how integrating CSR into strategy can create sustainable business models. Findings – Firms need to develop a framework for integrating CSR into their business strategy for long term successful survival. Social implications – Corporates and society are intertwined and mutually dependent. Business cannot survive without society's acquiescence nor succeed without its active support. Originality/value – The article explains the benefits of CSR and how to make it an integral part of business strategy to gain a competitive advantage.

One of the Sharīʿah’s requirements in conducting transactions is realising the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah. The Modern online banking system is very common to everyone, so it is considered as al-ʿUrf or al-ʿādah (common practice or custom) under the Sharīʿah. However, its practice is surrounded with security concerns, ease of use, and trust and cost implications that need observance of some Sharīʿah rulings. This qualitative analytic study uses the framework for the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah to explicate the ideal practice of online banking in service delivery to realize the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah. While Islam places more attention on the essential needs, online banking should as well be intended to provide essential services to customers and remove hardship in financial transactions. Banks should hence desist from causing any harm through the charging of hidden fees, causing more confusion to their clients, and even devising deceptive means that lead to the charging of ribā. Instead, banks should use online services to introduce means that promote the realization of the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah. This paper stresses the importance of financial technology in realising the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah.

The dynamics of the use of digital technology in the industrial revolution era 4.0 has had an impact on the financial sector. One of them is the development of financial technology (fintech) in the form of online loan services. Furthermore, the flagship product from fintech is lending to micro and small entrepreneurs. Likewise, Islamic banks that have a focus on financing to micro and small entrepreneurs must be able to compete with fintech services in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 that is happening at this time. The purpose of this study is to analyze the different mechanisms of micro-financing distribution between Bank Mandiri Syariah and microcredit UangTeman.com. The method used is qualitative, which is to compare the requirements, mechanisms, and margins imposed on the customers and the information obtained through secondary data, namely standard and operational procedures. Based on the results of the study, the requirements and procedures for granting loans to micro and small entrepreneurs at Bank Mandiri Syariah are longer compared to UangTeman.com. While the fines for late payment in installments and interest rates on UangTeman.com are higher than the fines and margins of Bank Mandiri Syariah micro-financing. Therefore to be able to improve products and services for micro and small entrepreneurs, Bank Mandiri Syariah conducts a review of business models and business

<em>Industry 4.0 has brought many changes, in the financial sector there is financial technology. One form of financial technology is crowdfunding. Creative industries are quite high sectors that use crowdfunding as a funding model. This research includes collaboration between crowdfunding and the music industry. In the process of collaboration between the crowdfunding and the music industry, the parties need to conduct a value chain analysis and find out their competitive advantages to maximize fundraising. The consequence of collaboration between the crowdfunding and the music industry is the presence of new business models accompanied by changes in the value chain. This study aims to determine value chain design collaboration between reward-based crowdfunding and the music industry. This research is based on the value network theory, using a qualitative approach with multi-cases study design. This research was conducted by gathering information through interviews with crowdfunding and the music industry. The results show that collaboration leads to changes in value chain design. Crowdfunding has changed the pattern of production in the music industry with its involvement in funding, sales, and distribution. Other forms of crowdfunding and other creative industries require further investigation. This study aims to help practitioners understand how reward-based crowdfunding is changing the music industry.</em>

AbstractTaking into account that the transparency is a quality of communication of sustainability information, as well as the role of digitalisation in ensuring the transparency, we proposed to study the perception of real estate entities related to promoting transparency in the relationship with stakeholders and the integration of information and communication technology in their business models. Applying a qualitative approach, we critically analysed the sustainability reports published by real estate companies from the EU, which represent important non-financial information sources for stakeholders. Transparency is mainly reflected in corporate governance, as real estate entities are increasingly concerned with maintaining open relationships with stakeholders and knowing their expectations to integrate them into the business strategy. We have noticed a broader approach of transparency in REIT entities and in reports that include an assurance statement. New digital technologies serve the purpose of improving transparency, which, although still poorly explored in real estate, offer new solutions to increase the efficiency and productivity of real estate activities. Property technology can improve real estate market transparency and liquidity, bringing lower transaction costs, which should positively impact the value of investment assets.

Under the restricted measures due to the global pandemic Covid-19, like all other services, financial services had difficulties in performing their financial activities. These difficulties are stronger at countries where financial services are denied for a long time. Financial services denial is an issue that has affected not only Albania but small Balkan countries as well. The reasons for this denial are many, but among them we can distinguish the lack of credit experience, as one of the common reasons to be excluded in these countries from the development of the financial sector. Currently, one of the reasons for the financial denial is the emergency created by Covid-19, where physical distancing and other measures taken by governments to restrict movement and services make financial service impossible. Thus, one of the most effective ways to perform financial services remotely is financial technology. Financial technology refers to the possibilities of financial innovation through technology that can result in new business models, applications, processes, or products with an effectiveness related to financial markets and institutions and the provision of financial services. This paper aims to present the challenges of the legal framework and regulatory institutions, to provide recommendations for its improvement, to enable the development of financial technology in the financial market in Albania. The paper address issues such as the Bank of Albania's consideration on the Directive (EU) 2015/2366 On Payment Services (PSD II). What benefits or challenges would its implementation bring? How is the financial industry projected after the implementation of PSD II? What are the biggest job challenges with payment institutions that have not been to the market before or that bring technology innovations? The paper addresses the issue of money laundering through online digital transactions as well.

E-business is far more about strategy than technology (Raisinghani & Schkade, 2001). An effective e-business strategy is concerned with e-business multidimensional characteristics associated with different levels, parties, elements, and growth pattern features (Bakry & Bakry, 2001). In the process, the strategy must incorporate the effects of the instant and global Internet communication mechanism on the company’s business management architecture. The global reach and interconnectivity of the Internet have spawned new models of e-business strategy and radically transformed existing ones (Pant & Ravichandran, 2001). Indeed, what distinguishes many of the dot-coms is not their new technical power, but the radical new business models (Hamel, 2000). Aided by such innovative e-business models, managers will be able to identify the major decision factors involved in their business strategies and generate strategies that would improve their overall performance and profitability. In the current context, four essential perspectives are identified to be associated with an e-business strategy: financial, customer, internal processes, and learning and growth. These four perspectives were first introduced in early 1990s as the balanced scorecard concept (BSC) (Kaplan & Norton, 1992). Because the BSC methodology explicitly focuses on links among business decisions and outcomes, it is intended to guide strategy development, implementation, and provide reliable feedback for management control and performance evaluation. This BSC rationale is thereby appealing to managers who face new challenges in the current turbulent e-business climate. The real challenge is to determine how the BSC can be successfully applied in the context of e-business’s constantly changing environment of interdependencies (Hasan & Tibbits, 2000). E-business introduces new business objectives and strategies and the old measures of success may no longer apply. It is anticipated that the departure from the original BSC for a strategic e-business management framework would be more radical than the existing BSC adaptations (e.g., Martinson’s balanced IS scorecard; Martinsons, Davison, & Tse, 1999).

The rapid development of technology and information systems continues to give birth to various innovations, especially those related to financial technology to meet the various needs of the community, including access to financial services and processing of financial transactions. Financial technology (FinTech) is the implementation and utilization of technology to improve financial and banking services. The development of financial technology in Indonesia itself is growing rapidly, along with the development of existing technology. FinTech is developed by utilizing the latest software, internet, and computing technologies. Based on this, this study examines the development of innovation and policies for the fintech business model in the e-business ecosystem in Indonesia. This research is a qualitative research with data collection methods through focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. This chapter recommends that the government develop and make policies for fintech business model innovation in the e-business ecosystem in Indonesia.

The digitalisation of global financial technology and marketing is central for the success of many banking organisations across the globe. Digital disruption is a change that occurs when new emerging digital technologies and business models affect the value proposition of existing goods and services for low end demanding customers or for new market customers. Digital banking or online or virtual banking is leading to the digitization of all the traditional banking activities, products, process, or services. It is needless to state that mere adaptation of digital media to comply with trends does not guarantee success. The digital trends in the banking industry has seen banks focusing on digitalization core processes, increasing awareness, financial inclusions, and undertaking sustainable practices. FinTech (i.e., financial technology) is competing with traditional financial methods in the delivery of financial services and reaching the unbanked segment of society, particularly in developing countries. There is a strong need to understand drivers and trends in the FinTech industry.
