Results of experimental and analytical researches on restoration of stocks of crayfish of subfamily Astacinae Latreille, 1802 in water body of the Forest zone of the European part of Russia by introduction of larvae of the early stages received in artificial conditions are presented. Researches were conducted in 1995–2020 under programs of Rosrybhoz, Tver’rybhoz, the Russian Academy of agricultural sciences and the Ministry of the Science and Higher education of the Russian Federation. To restore the stocks of crayfish in the Tver Region, larvae of early age stages obtained under artificial conditions were placed in frame devices installed along the shore of the water body, covered with a fine-mesh netting with a small slit left near their bottom. The differences in the environment in the growing pond (fish farm pond) and in the larval introduction pond (Puiga River) were minimal. In devices filled with aquatic vegetation enriched with food organisms, the larvae had the opportunity to adapt to the new environment, find food organisms, and gradually get out through the slit into the water body. A survey of the results of this method of introducing of stocking material, carried out after 1.5–2 months, made it possible to establish the absence of larvae in the devices, and to find in the river backwater downstream a lot of larvae that grew up to the 6th age stage with a body length of 2 and more centimeters. The number of larvae in the backwater was established by calculation based on the results of an approximate calculation of their number per 165 copies/m² of the river bottom inhabited by crustaceans, the settlement area was 15.8 m². The number of found grown-up larvae allowed us to estimate approximately the survival rate of the universal planting material of cancer at least 36%.

Tomato is the most important vegetable crop with an annual increase in its production worldwide. In the Russian Federation, greenhouse industry specializing in the production of tomatoes have been actively developing over the past few years. At the same time, tomato plants affect more than 200 different pests and diseases. Pathogens of viral diseases of plants are an important limiting factor for many branches of crop production, including vegetable growing. In recent years, in European countries, the production of tomatoes in open field and greenhouses has suffered from serious losses caused mainly by viral phytopathogens. The article presents an overview of the three most dangerous viruses, pathogens of tomato diseases – tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) and tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). These viruses have been repeatedly detected in a number of countries on almost all continents and have caused significant economic losses in the countries of their distribution. In view of the very rapid spread and detection of dangerous tomato viruses in a number of countries engaged in the production and further export of tomato seeds and fruits, Rosselkhoznadzor, from July 27, 2020, introduced as a temporary quarantine phytosanitary measure the requirement that these viruses are not present in seeds, planting material and fruits of host plants when they are imported and moved through the territory of the Russian Federation. The results of the phytosanitary risk analyses conducted at the Federal State Budgetary Institution «VNIIKR» in 2020 showed that ToBRFV, PepMV and TSWV meet the criteria of quarantine organisms for the Russian Federation, viruses are able to enter the territory of the country with quarantined products, spread and cause significant damage to the development of agriculture and economic activity of the country.

Objective: to estimate the prevalence in the dynamic of physical inactivity, overweight and obesity, smoking and alcohol abuse in a representative sample of the European part of the Russian Federation. Materials and methods: the population of eight subjects of the European part of Russia was randomized in 2002. The resulting sample was examined by local doctors. The resulting sample included 19,503 respondents who were examined by local doctors in 2002 and 2017. Results: from 2002 to 2017 the prevalence of smoking has decreased from 23,1 to 20,5% (р < 0,001) (47,9 – 42,6% (р < 0,001) among men and 4,8 – 4,5% (р = 0,323 among women)). The smoking index among men has decreased from 18,8 to 17,8 (р = 0,024) and from women increased from 7,7 to 10,6, р < 0,001. The prevalence of alcohol abuse has decreased from 32,2 to 22,3% (р < 0,001) (51,6 – 39,0% (р < 0,001) among men and 17,4 – 10,1% (р < 0,001) among women). Average dose of ethanol, among drinkers has changed from 84,0 ± 94,4 ml to 75,4 ± 75,5 ml (р < 0,001) (120,6 ± 111,9 – 97,7 ± 85,2 (р < 0,001) among men and 44,7 ± 45,3 – 46,0 ± 46,3 (р < 0,001) among women). Percentage of respondents who are overweight or obese has increased from 46,9 to 60,0% (р < 0,001) (41,6 – 58,2% (р < 0,001) among men and 50,9 – 31,3% (р < 0,001) among women). Although the prevalence of inactivity has decreased from 83,2 to 81,0% (р < 0,001) (79,8 – 78,4% р = 0,045 among men and 85,7 – 83,0% (р < 0,001) among women), the proportion of people without physical activity has increased from 71,5 to 74,0% (р < 0,001), because the proportion of people with low physical activity has decreased. Conclusion: the prevalence of bad habits in Russia is decreasing, but the proportion of people who have inactivity, overweight and obesity is increasing. These facts will not significantly reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in Russsia, and require optimization of population prevention programs that will reduce the prevalence of inactivity, overweight and obesity in society.

The epidemic rise in the incidence of West Nile fever (WNF) in the season of 2018 was observed in the countries of the European Union (EU) and bordering states and exceeded the values of all previously recorded epidemic rises of 2010–2012. An increase in the incidence rate was registered in the USA and Canada, however, it did not exceed the indicators of epidemic rises of 2007–2012. In the territory of the Russian Federation, the WNF epidemiological process became more intense mainly in the territory of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts. In general, in Russia, the incidence rates were 2 times lower than the average annual rates, but significantly exceeded those of 2017. The epidemic process had a number of peculiarities in the seasonality, the structure of morbidity and the clinical manifestation of WNF. Genotyping of the isolated WNV RNA fragments from clinical and biological material showed that I, II and IV West Nile virus genotypes were circulating in the European part of Russia. Forecast of epidemic situation development in 2019 reveals further increase in the incidence and does not exclude the possibility of a significant localincrease of WNF incidence in certain regions of Russia.

The purpose of the study is to revise relevés of synanthropic communities dominated by Melilotus albus and M. officinalis from forest, forest-steppe and steppe zones of the European part of Russia and Belarus and to reveal the variation in their floristic composition in this territory. In the present paper, 66 relevés from 2004 to 2016 are analyzed. As a result of the study, the association Melilotetum albo–officinalis was identified. It includes three subassociations that reflect different ecological conditions and some geographical distribution features of communities. Subass. typicum includes the most typical communities. It has two variants. Communities of var. typica often contain few species due to the strong dominance of Melilotus albus and M. officinalis. Var. Ambrosia artemisiifolia includes early successional phytocoenoses affected by regular disturbances. The mesophytic communities which are rich in mesophilous meadow and ruderal species are assigned to the subass. tussilaginetosum farfarae. They tend to spread in the northwestern part of the study area located in the forest zone. Subass. сarduetosum acanthoidis includes xeromesophytic communities. Its coenoflora contains highly constant species of the order Onopordetalia acanthi and a high proportion of subcontinental and continental species. They are widespread in the eastern part of the study area, in steppe and forest-steppe zones. Еnvironmental differences between habitats of the described communities are shown using targeted ecological indicator values. The highest variability between syntaxa was identified in the levels of moisture in soils and substrates, temperature, continentality and hemeroby.

This chapter surveys cultural developments in the European part of the Russian Federation. Geographically this landscape varies from coniferous forests in the north, to steppe and semi-desert in the south, the Urals forming a natural eastern border to Europe. Chronologically the chapter covers the period from 900/800 BC through to the Great Migration of the third/fourth centuries AD. Although the pace of technological advance varied in different regions, the transition to iron was everywhere accompanied by the formation of new cultural and social types. Three principal cultural spheres existed: (1) the nomadic world, which greatly influenced Iron Age cultural and social developments elsewhere; (2) the forest cultures of the upper and middle Volga, Oka, and Dvina rivers; and (3) the world of Cis-Ural forest zone. Their major technological, economic, social, political, and ideological components are analysed, together with internal and interregional interactions and movements.
