The Effect of Herringbone Technique on Students’ Reading Comprehension through Narrative Text at MTs PAB 1 Helvetia, Medan   Rizky Vita Losi Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi [email protected]   Abstract This research dealt with Herringbone technique which was proposed by Deegan (2006). The aim of this research was to know whether Herringbone technique was effective to be applied on students’ reading comprehension through narrative text. The sample of this research was grade VIII-E students which consisted of 31 students at MTs PAB 1 Helvetia, Medan. The data of this research was students’ reading comprehension score on pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed by using Paired Sample T-Test formula which was calculated by SPSS 2.2. From the data analysis, it was found that the T-Test value was higher than the T-Table value (10,085 > 2,042). It showed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It also showed that there was a significance effect after applying Herringbone technique on students’ reading comprehension through narrative text at MTs PAB 1 Helvetia, Medan.   Keywords:  herringbone technique, students’ reading comprehension, paired sample t-test formula

This research is to know is there is significant effect in reading comprehension achievement in X grade at SMK Walisongo 1 Gempol, being taught by suggestopedia method. This research uses quantitative research. The research’s object is X AK-2 of SMK Walisongo 1 Gempol has 28 students. The researcher divides the main activity into pre-test, treatment and post-test. Based on the SPSS 23 Program calculation from mean result of pre-test 70.1 and the result mean of post-test is 83.5. The students’ score is increasing after being given by the treatment. The result of the calculation of this research showed that (sig 2-tailed = 0.002) which is less from (<) 0.05 and significance 5%. It mean that the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. From the result of the data analysis above, the use suggestopedia method gives significant effect in students’ reading comprehension achievement This article investigates major points of the speech verbs. On this case, different meaning of verbs was analyzed from Russian into English.  Therefore, analyses of the theory with methodology were described to make better diffusion. To conclude with both outcomes and shortcomings were outlined to get further analyses as the whole.

This study was intended to analyze whether Information has significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension. The method of this research was quantitative approach and applied pre-experimental design by using pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was whole of the first-grade students of SMKS DARUL QUR’AN BENGKEL which was consisted of one class with the total number of populations was 29 students in X TKJ Group Class as population sample. The class was treated by using Students Information Search. The instrument used in this research was reading test, in form of multiple choices test which was consisted of 25 items. The data was analyzed using t-test. The result of the data analysis indicated that Information Search has significant effect towards students’ reading comprehension. The result of statistical computation confirmed that the result of sig. two-tailed is differ from the value significant level (0.000 ≠ 0.05). the researcher also found the result of t-table was 2.061 lower then t-test 12.679. This result indicated that Alternative Hypothesis was accepted and Null Hypothesis was rejected, therefore it can be concluded that there is significant effect of Information Search towards students’ reading comprehension.

English Environment Programs is one of method In Improving Speaking Ability At Polytechnic of National Informatics. This research aims at finding out wheather or not the use of English environment Programs improve the speaking ability. This research used Quasy experimental method with two group pre-test and post-test design. The result of the data analysis showed that the degree of freedom (df) was 43 (n1 + n2 – 2) where n1 = 30 and n2 = 15 so 30 + 15 – 2 = 43), the level of significant (α) = 0.05, the t-test value of students’ speaking ability= 3.765, and the t-table value = 2.021. The t-test value is greater than the t-table value (3.765 > 2.021), this showed that there is a significant difference of improvement between the Control group and Experimental Group. It means that the Alternative Hypothesis (H1) is accepted while the Null Hypothesis (H0) rejected. Based on the result above, the researcher concluded that the using of English Environment Programs can improve the speaking ability of the second year students of Polytechnic of National InformaticsKeywords: English Environment, Speaking, Effectiveness

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of phonics approach in teaching reading for the seventh graders of SMP Negeri 1 Aikmel, East Lombok, and to what extent it is effective. This research was designed as  pre-experimental with read aloud test as the instrument to collect data. The sample of this research consisted of 36 students of SMP Negeri 1 Aikmel. The sample was taken through purposive sampling. In collecting the data, a pre-test and a post-test were given to the students. SPSS 17 for Windows and paired-sample t-test were applied to analyze the collected data. After, calculating the data, it could be known that there was a significant difference in the mean scores between pre-test and post-test, t(df=35) = 23.314 at p = 0.001, meaning that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In a nutshell, phonics approach was significantly effective in teaching reading for the seventh graders of SMP Negeri 1 Aikmel.

This research used quantitative with true experimental design. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was an effect of using storyboard technique on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Krakatau Steel Cilegon.  The population of this research were 72 students. The instrument were pre-test and post-test. The treatment used Storyboard technique was administrated for the experimental group. The result of independent t-test computation result of post-test score showed that t count more than the t table (6.274 1.994). It can be concluded that Ho (null hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Based on the data analysis above, there was an effect using storyboard technique on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Krakatau Steel Cilegon

This study aims at finding out whether Running Dictation Method is effective in teaching listening skill at the sixth semester of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. This study is pre-experimental design which consists of pre-test, treatment and post-test. The population of this study is the sixth semester of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The technique used to select the sample is simple random sampling. The data analyzes using significant t-test (paired sample t-test). The result of the study shows that the value of mean score of pre-test (66.13) is lower than the mean score of post-test (75.90). it means that the use of Running Dictation is effective in teaching listening. The result of paired sample t-test shows that the value of sig. (2-tailed) is lower than alpha (α) (0.00<0.05), It means that Null Hypothesis  (H0)  is  rejected  and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefore Running Dictation Method is significantly effective in teaching listening at the sixth semester of Cokroaminoto Palopo university.

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective to apply the Inquiry Based Learning Approach in teaching reading comprehension for the tenth grade students. In this research, the researcher proposed two hypotheses. They were null hypothesis (Ho) and alternative hypothesis (Ha). The method applied was pre-experimental with one group pre-test posttest design. The object of this research consisted of 20 students. The data were collected by means of test consisting 20 items of multiple choices. The data obtained were analyzed through three techniques: 1) Individual Score, 2) Conversion of Individual Score Based on Minimum Mastery Criteria, and 3) Matched t-test. The results of this research shows that  the students’ mean  score in the pre-test was 60.13 and those in the  post-test was 75.25. The result of matched t-test was 5.25, which was higher than t-table value (1.725) of 20 with 95% significant level for one tailed-test. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that it was significantly effective in teaching reading to the tenth grade students by applying Based Learning Approach.
