Expert system is a computer program which is designed for modelling the ability of problem solving as it is an expert (human expert). The expert system method used is the forward chaining method which is the inference method that is doing logical reasoning from the problem to its solution. The aim of this research is to design and develop an expert system that is able to identify the severe malnutrition on children from the age of 0 - 5 years old. The knowledge is derived from the question askedto a nutrition expert. The data are taken from the questions asked to the user and when all of the questions has been answered, then the goal will be appeared which shows the nutrition status. This system application will enable the user to diagnose the nutrition/disease that affects children and get the solution. This system can be used by any kind of user due to the easy access. This system is also put the important information about the severe malnutrition and the recent news of children’s health so it will add more knowledge for the parents about the importance of severe malnutrition’s prevention.

Since the idea of “artificial intelligence with knowledge” had been introduced, so many thoughts, theories, and ideas in various fields of engineering, science, geology, social study, economics, and management methods have been proposed. Those things have been started as an extension of modern engineering control theories and practices. Firstly, expert system by using IF-Then rules came up to at a production spot in manufacturing, and then agent system method by using intelligent software programs for design, planning, scheduling, production, and management in manufacturing. And then after, the idea of “Knowledge” burst into the artificial intelligence field as a real aid for getting any purpose to be accomplished by having augmented the past key knowledge in terms of management (controlling). However, those augmented knowledge methods used to have usages only in a limited small area. In addition to this, lots of works have to be done before making the systems work for a target problem solving. And what is worse, lots of parts of systems have to be customized for a new application. This chapter introduces a new direction and a method in “Knowledge” by inaugurating the brand new idea of “Dynamics in Knowledge,” which will behave more flexibly and intelligently in real usages.

Knowledge acquisition is the first step in building an expert system. However, it is very difficult to find out the problem-solving approaches from a human expert completely and correctly. Here we implemented the Think-aloud experiment with an expert in architecture. By coding and analyzing the designing process, other researchers could proceed our research and find out the cognitive models corresponded to the approaches and strategies of how experts solved the problems encountered during the normal designing process.

This study aims to design and implement an expert system application to provide minimum computer hardware and operating system requirements, which are capable of running games with certain graphical settings. Backward chaining inference method is used to conclude the output, which the requirements are based on user’s input. The application is made using PHP general-purpose server-side scripting language and MySQL database. By using this application, a user can consult as well as to an expert to know the computer specifications capable of running a game with preferred graphical settings and to estimate the cost to build that computer. This application can also help sellers of computer parts to set price on the custom-built computers, to create category or sales package, as well as to provide information for potential buyers.

There were 12 disease data obtained from the agriculture and horticulture department of Deli Serdang, namely earthworms, thrips pests, leaf caterpillars, armyworms, aphids, root namhodes, purple spots, powdery mildew, stem neck rot, anthracnose, fusarium wilt, rot. poor, dead shoots (phytopthora porri foister) and there are 30 Symptoms of disease in onion plants An expert system is a computer program that provides expert advice (decisions, recommendations or problem solving) as if people had been consulted. The backward chaining method is the opposite of forward chaining which starts with a hypothesis (an object) and asks for information to convince or ignore. Backward chaining inference engines are often called Object-Driven/Goal-Driven. In this study, a web-based expert system was designed using the backward chaining method which aims to detect the type of disease in shallot plants by paying attention to the symptoms experienced in shallot plants. By using the backward chaining method, the value of disease certainty in shallot plants will be obtained from the expert system designed. The test results concluded that the design of an expert system for diagnosing diseases in shallots using the backward chaining method was as expected.

Skin cancer is an abnormal growth of human skin that can damage skin cells. By knowing the symptoms of skin cancer as early as posssible, it is helpful in preventing the spread of cancer cells and treatment. There are many factors that cause skin cancer, but in general the cause is exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun.  Therefore, an expert system application is required to detect skin cancer.  By using backward chining and probalility methode; which data is in form of someone’s risk factor and clinical sympthoms, then the application will provide temporary diagnosis.  This application is built in an android platfrom because in its development android is more used than other platforms. The accuracy obtained from this application is 96.67%.

</p><p><em><br /></em></p><p><em>Expert systems are systems that adopt human knowledge into computers designed to model the ability to resolve problems like an expert.
