Peculiarities of functioning of the plum (Prunus domestica L.) perspective cultivars and forms trees leaves photosynthetic apparatus

The influence of the photosynthetic apparatus on the formation of the economic and biological traits of the plum 13 cultivars and 10 elite forms of different ripening terms was evaluated at the L.P. Symyrenko Research Station of Pomology and in the Laboratory of the Plant Physiology and Microbiology of the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. Those cvs and forms were bred inland and abroad. The morphological physiological indicators – the leaf blade surface, specific leaf surface density, content of water as well as of the chlorophylls a and b were used in order to analyze the leaf apparatus organization. The close correlation was revealed of pigments amount variability and above mentioned chlorophylls ratio, on the one hand, and negative correlation (r = -0,85) between chlorophyll b content and ratio of the both mentioned chlorophylls, on the other hand. That confirms the high adaptive capacity and regulatory possibilities of the plum trees leaves chloroplasts pigment systems concerning the light regime changes in the crown. The researches have shown that the correlation between the water content and leaf surface (r = 0,35) is not significant. Thus, leaves with the more intensive metabolism are characterized with somewhat strained water homeostasis. During the investigations years in the group of the early ripening the varieties Oda and Herman distinguish themselves for the highest yield (13,68 t/ha and 14,03 t/ha respectively), among middle-ripening the cultivars Cacakska Najbolia (17,57 t/ha), Yantarna Mliivska (17,40 t/ha), Zamanchyva (15,89 t/ha) and the hybrid form № 12516 (15,66 t/ha), late-ripening cv Bluefree (16,35 t/ha) and the hybrid № 8124 (Prestige – 16,18 t/ha) under the similar cultivation conditions.

The authors present the results of researching the functioning of the leaf apparatus of the plum promise cultivars and elite forms bred at the L.P. Symyrenko Research Station of Pomology that was carried out for the purpose of determining their potential adaptability and productivity. The plants functional state was studied by means of the portable fluorimetr ‘Floratest’ establishing the inductive changes of the leaves chlorophyll fluorescence. The analysis of the green pigments in them was conducted in spirit extracts applying the spectrophotometric method. The considerable negative correlation was revealed (r = -0,71) between the a/b chlorophylls correlation and pigments summary content (in mg/g of the humid substance), on the one hand, and the chlorophyll b and chlorophylls a/b correlation (r = -0,85), on the other hand. That proves the high regulatory capacity and adaptive ability (at the level of the chlorophylls certain forms synthesis) of the leaves chloroplasts pigment systems of all the investigated crop cultivars and elite forms to the changes of the light regime in the tree crown. Concerning the parameters which characterize the plants potential photosynthetic effectivity and productivity the variety Oda has been recognized the most productive one among early ripening, Cacakska Najbolja, Zamanchivaya and Yantarna Mliivs’ka among middle-ripening, Stanley, Bluefree and forms 8124 and 8143 among late-ripening. The form 9996 had the lowest photosynthetic processes efficiency as for all the parameters. The rather high adaptability has been detected of the leaf apparatus of the trees of all the cultivars and forms to the changes of the enlightenment conditions as regards the indicators of the chlorophylls Fpl 1 and Fpl 2 fluorescence induction and green pigments content in the leaves. According to the plateau Kpl coefficient the viral infection was not revealed.

The effect of different growth light intensities (60 W·m-2, 6 W·m-2) on the performance of the photosynthetic apparatus of mustard plants (Sinapis alba L.) was studied. A distinct decrease in photosystem II content per chlorophyll under low-light conditions compared to high-light conditions was found. For P-680 as well as for Oᴀ and Oв protein the molar ratio between high-light and low-light plants was 1.4 whereas the respective concentrations per chlorophyll showed some variations for P-680 and Oᴀ on the one and Oв protein on the other hand.In addition to the study of photosystem II components, the concentrations of PQ, Cyt f, and P-700 were measured. The light regime during growth had no effect on the amount of P-700 per chlorophyll but there were large differences with respect to PQ and Cyt f. The molar ratio for Cyt f and PQ between high- and low-light leaves was 2.2 and 1.9, respectively.Two models are proposed, showing the functional organization of the pigment system and the electron transport chain in thylakoids of high-light and low-light leaves of mustard plants.

The paper considers a way to represent the relationship between indicators in the form of copulas. Copulas are popular mathematical tools. This is due to the fact that, on the one hand, the marginal distributions of indicators are divided in the copulas, and on the other hand, the structure of the relationship between these marginal distributions is divided, which makes it  possible to very effectively study the connections that arise in real  populations. Special attention in the work is paid to extremal dependence coefficients - important numerical characteristics of the connection in conditions of extreme small or extremely large values of indicators. It is shown that even under conditions of close correlation between the indices for a two-dimensional Gaussian distribution, the lower and upper coefficients of the extreme dependence take zero values. This indicates the impossibility of predicting the values of one indicator when fixing too small or too large values of another indicator. This work shows that the relationship between the number of COVID-19 coronavirus infections per 100,000 people and the number of deaths from COVID-19 coronavirus infection per 100,000 people in the regions of the Russian Federation can be represented in the form of a Gaussian copula.

Abstract Recent developments in Translation Studies and translation practice have not only led to a profusion of approaches, but also to the development of new text forms and translation modes. Media Accessibility, particularly audio description (AD) and subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (SDH), is an example of such a ‘new’ mode. SDH has been evolving quickly in recent decades and new developments such as interlingual SDH and live subtitling with speech recognition bring it closer to established forms of translation and interpreting. On the one hand, interlingual SDH reintroduces Jakobson’s (1959) ‘translation proper’ while the use of speech recognition has led to the creation of a hybrid form that has affinities with both subtitling and interpreting. Audio description, for its part, cannot even be fitted into Jakobson’s ‘intersemiotic translation’ model since it involves translation from images into words. Research into AD is especially interesting since it rallies methods from adjacent disciplines, much in the same way that Holmes ([1972] 1988) described TS when it was a fledgling discipline. In 2008, Braun set out a research agenda for AD and the wealth of topics and research approaches dealt with in her article illustrate the immense complexity of this field and the work still to be done. Although AD and SDH research have developed at different paces and are concerned with different topics, converging trends do appear. Particularly the role of technology and the concept of multimodality seem to be key issues. This article aims to give an overview of current research trends in both these areas. It illustrates the possibilities of technology-driven research – particularly popular in SDH and live-subtitling research – while at the same time underlining the value of individual, human-driven approaches, which are still the main ‘modus operandi’ in the younger discipline of AD where much basic research is still required.

The following observations are founded upon the records of 301 autopsies performed by myself at Rainhill Asylum. They are concerned principally with certain abnormal and morbid manifestations which occur within the crania of the insane. Of these the chief are, on the one hand, indications of subevolution, as shown by macroscopic structural defects of the cerebral hemispheres, such as deficiency of weight or of convolutional complexity, and on the other, evidence of dissolution as exhibited by wasting of the cerebral hemispheres. The relationship existing between these abnormal and morbid manifestations and certain other intracranial appearances is also discussed. No attempt, however, has been made—for reasons which will afterwards be given—at any close correlation between these abnormal and morbid manifestations and the mental states recorded during life. The observations, therefore, are of a pathological rather than a clinical nature.

Epitheliogenesis imperfecta (EI) has been diagnosed in calves on a north Queensland beef cattle research station. There are five Bos indicus cross, inter se mated breed groups on the station: 1/2 Brahman, 3/4 Brahman, 1/2 Sahiwal, 3/4 Sahiwal and High Grade Sahiwal. The disease was confined to the three Sahiwal breed groups and caused calf losses over seven years from 1978 of 0.2%, 3.4% and 1.0% in the 1/2, 3/4 and High Grade groups respectively. The Sahiwal breed was identified as the origin of the gene responsible for the disease. The source of the gene within the Sahiwal breed was investigated, and several ancestors were identified as almost certainly being heterozygotes. Analyses of relationships of affected and non-affected calves to the 10 Sahiwals that were originally imported into Australia identified the one that was most likely the source of the El gene.

Abstract Key message Brachypodium distachyonis a good model for studying chloropla st movements in the crop plants, wheat, rye and barley. The movements are activated only by blue light, similar to Arabidopsis. Abstract Chloroplast translocations are ubiquitous in photosynthetic organisms. On the one hand, they serve to optimize energy capture under limiting light, on the other hand, they minimize potential photodamage to the photosynthetic apparatus in excess light. In higher plants chloroplast movements are mediated by phototropins (phots), blue light receptors that also control other light acclimation responses. So far, Arabidopsis thaliana has been the main model for studying the mechanism of blue light signaling to chloroplast translocations in terrestrial plants. Here, we propose Brachypodium distachyon as a model in research into chloroplast movements in C3 cereals. Brachypodium chloroplasts respond to light in a similar way to those in Arabidopsis. The amino acid sequence of Brachypodium PHOT1 is 79.3% identical, and that of PHOT2 is 73.6% identical to the sequence of the corresponding phototropin in Arabidopsis. Both phototropin1 and 2 are expressed in Brachypodium, as shown using quantitative real-time PCR. Intriguingly, the light-expression pattern of BradiPHOT1 and BradiPHOT2 is the opposite of that for Arabidopsis phototropins, suggesting potential unique light signaling in C3 grasses. To investigate if Brachypodium is a good model for studying grass chloroplast movements we analyzed these movements in the leaves of three C3 crop grasses, namely wheat, rye and barley. Similarly to Brachypodium, chloroplasts only respond to blue light in all these species.

An automated method for the determination of factor X has been developed using a procoagulant fraction from Russell’s Viper Venom (RW), which activates FX within 4 minutes at pH 8.6, resulting in a Xa activity that is assayed using the chromogenic substrate S 2222. The amidolytic activity generated by sufficient RW is proportional to the FX level of the plasma and is not influenced by antithrombin III within the time studied. By using polybrene, the influence of heparin (up to 10 U/ml) can be eliminated. The method has been adapted for performance automatically on an Automated Kinetic Enzyme and Substrate analyser (Vitatron), Comparison of FX activities of 30 normals and 41 patients with bleeding disorders revealed a close correlation of this method with the one stage clotting assay using thromboplastin (r=0.93). Values obtained in a group of 83 patients on oral anticoagulant therapy showed good correlation (r=0.87) but tended to be about 8% higher compared to the one stage method. No significant differences were found when RW was used in the clotting assay (r-0.91). The values obtained by the amidolytic assay correlated well with thrombotest (r=0.87).

Nanotechnology is seen as one of the key technologies in the twenty-first century, which promises to improve traditional agricultural practices and offer sustainable development by improving management and conservation tactics by reducing agricultural resources costs. The creation and implementation of new environmentally friendly and technological nano preparation designed to increase the efficiency of plant nutrient use from mineral fertilizers and soil - is one of the ways to increase crop yields and the quality of agricultural products. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of pre-sowing seed treatment and fertilizing of sowings by nano preparation Avatar (micro fertilizer of carboxylates of natural acids), Iodis-concentrate (immunomodulator – a stimulator of growth processes), and Super Micro Plus (nanochelate fertilizer), and leaf apparatus formation of soybean Khorol variety. Field research was conducted in 2016–2020 in a stationary experiment at the NULES of Ukraine «Agronomic Research Station» in 10-field crop rotation and also in laboratory «Demonstration collection field of crops» of the Plant Science Department. As a result of the conducted researches, was established that the use of nano preparation Avatar, Iodis-concentrate, and Super Micro Plus for seed treatment and fertilizing intensified leaf surface formation and symbiotic apparatus activity of soybean plants. The obtained results confirm that the application of the complex of nano fertilizers Jodis-concentrate, Avatar, and nano-chelate fertilizer Super Micro Plus in the soybean fertilization helped to increase the yield, which indicates their unconditional effectiveness. The highest efficiency of nano fertilizers was shown by inoculation and seed treatment by Avatar with co-fertilizing Avatar +nano-chelate fertilizer Super Micro Plus, providing formation of 52.4 thousand m2/ha of leaf surface area of soybean variety Khorol, 69.7 pcs/plant tubers on the root system, 785 mg/plant of their weight and yield at the level of 2.79 t/ha.

The aim of the article is to analyze the attempts to conceptualize post-Soviet regime changes that have been undertaken over the past thirty years. For convenience, all concepts are grouped around three main approaches. The first one examines regime transformations in the former USSR from the point of view of a possible transition to democracy (transition paradigm); the second approach emphasizes the continuity between the post-Soviet political regimes and previous ones, overlooking fundamental differences between them; the third approach assumes that the post-Soviet transition did take place, however, it was “autocracyto-autocracy transition” (from one-party communist dictatorship to hybrid regimes or consolidated personalistic autocracies). The author considers regime change as transformation of some basic formal and informal rules of the game that determine the functioning of a given political system (from the way of making key decisions and allocating resources to the main channels for recruiting to the elite). As a result, the author proves that the third approach is the most relevant for understanding post-Soviet politics. Inter alia, its advantage is that it allows us to fit post-Soviet studies into the wider field of comparative political science: the analysis of post-Soviet politics, on the one hand, can significantly enrich our ideas about “how dictatorships work” at large, on the other hand, empirical knowledge about autocracies outside post-Soviet Eurasia and theories built on this basis will help us to understand the nature of authoritarianism in Russia’s “near abroad”.
