Purpose The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of conscientiousness and extraversion personality traits on project success. The relationship is mediated by affective professional commitment, whilst the relationship between personality traits and project success is moderated by organizational project management maturity. Design/methodology/approach The deductive approach is used to achieve the objectives of this study. Data were collected through a purposive sampling technique from 250 respondents with the help of questionnaires from information technology sectors. The structural equation modelling (SEM) in partial least squares-SEM and SPSS is used to analyse the data and to examine the hypothesis. Findings The outcomes demonstrate the partial mediating impact of affective professional commitment between the relationship of conscientiousness and extraversion personalities with project success. Additionally, it proves the moderating effects of project management maturity between the relationship of conscientiousness and extraversion personalities with project success. Practical implications This study reflects that employee personality appears to be a reliable indicator of how an employee is faithful to his profession. This faithfulness or duty decides the employee’s execution in terms of offering a successful project. Thus, achieving employee commitment needs to be done by completing the project successfully by the organizations in the presence of project management maturity systems. Originality/value It is the first study of its kind to provide experimental proof of the impact of a manager’s personality traits on project success in the presence of affective professional commitment (mediator) and organizational project management maturity (moderator).

The purpose of this study is to examine whether subordinate attribution style on leader emotional (positive and negative) display moderates the relationship between subordinate achievement motivation/personal need for structure(PNS) and performance. 75 employees in the sales department of a pharmaceutical company participated in the survey. Results showed that subordinates using person-attribution style on leader negative emotional display performed better than those using performance-attribution style, though they had the same high level of explicit achievement motivation and PNS. That is, the moderating role of subordinate attributional style on leader negative emotional display was verified. On the contrary, subordinate attributional style on leader positive emotional display did not moderate the relationship between subordinate explicit achievement motivation/PNS and performance. Theoretical and practical implications, limitations, and future research are discussed.

This study examines the mediating effect of teacher empowerment on the relationship between teachers’ participation in decision making and their professional commitment. The data were collected through quantitative questionnaires from a sample of 983 teachers in 25 junior high schools and 27 high schools in Israel. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that teacher empowerment mediated the effect of teachers’ participation in decision making (technical domain) on teacher commitment, thus demonstrating the critical role of empowerment in enhancing teacher commitment. The teachers’ sense of empowerment is also related to their desire to be leaders. Implications are drawn regarding the important role that principals and other school administrators need to play in enhancing the teachers’ sense of empowerment.

Banking transactions in Indonesia have experienced very rapid development in line with the need for financing in the real sector. However, along with this rapid development, fraud is still a classic problem in the banking sector. The research aimed to empirically prove the effect of professional commitment, moral courage, idealism, and altruistic values on the intention to do whistleblowing. In addition, the research also investigated whether the locus of control was a variable that moderated the relationship. A quantitative research method using questionnaire instruments was used for data collection. The population was all employees of banks operating in Surabaya. The research sample included the employees of national private banks operating in Surabaya. The data analysis technique was the path analysis test with the WarpPLS program. The results show that professional commitment, moral courage, and idealism have a significant effect on the intention to do whistleblowing. Meanwhile, altruistic values do not affect the intention to do whistleblowing. The results also indicate that locus of control is a moderating variable that strengthens the relationship of professional commitment, moral courage, and idealism in affecting the intention to do whistleblowing. Professional commitment, moral courage, and idealism have become strong awareness for bank employees to participate in eradicating corruption, white-collar crime, and all forms of fraud in the organizational environment.

Many studies have dwelled on various issues related to the concept of commitment. One particular issue concerns the relationship between organisational commitment and professional commitment. Between these foci of commitments, the issue has been whether both are compatible or in conflict with each other. The nature of the relationship between these variables is worth noting as it may have impact on the behaviour of individuals in organisations, and hence, the formulation and practice of human resource policies in these organisations. This paper reports the findings of a study conducted to investigate this issue of compatibility or conflict between the variables. The unit of analysis were academicians employed in a private research institution in Malaysia. The result of the mail survey revealed the existence of a commitment dilemma within the sample. No significant correlations were recorded between professional commitment and the various dimensions of organisational commitment. Additionally, professional commitment and organisational commitment correlated significantly with intent to stay in the profession and intent to stay with the organisation, respectively. Directions for further research were also discussed.

Much attention is paid to the importance of the relationship between patients and physicians and the ethical issues that have been considered from different perspectives. Moreover, different models have been developed to establish such a relationship. In one of the most advanced methods, Emanuel EJ categorized 4 paternalistic -informative-interpretive models that have been agreed upon by many medical professionals. Each model has its characteristics and in the relationship between a patient and a practitioner, and to some extent, the professional commitment values (professionalism). In other words, the observance of the values of professionalism in each of these models has been based on the definitions of these principles; each is of particular importance, and individual attention has been paid to these values in different models. The present work aimed to evaluate each communication model according to the values of medical resource planning. Analyzing and adapting these models in terms of professional ethics could finally lead to analyzing the comparative approaches to professional commitment values.

The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical framework to investigate the relationship between work motivation, organisational commitment and professional commitment in temporary organisations. Through a review of theory, we contend that work motivation has two major patterns — internal motivation (which includes intrinsic, need-based and self-deterministic theories), and external motivation (which includes cognitive or process-based theories of motivation) through which it has been investigated. We also hold the nature of employee commitment to be of three types — affective, continuance and normative. This commitment may be towards either the organisation or the profession. A literature review revealed that the characteristics of the temporary organisation — specifically tenure and task — regulate the relationship between work motivation, organisational commitment and professional commitment. Testable propositions are presented
