Objective - This research aims to; 1) study the competitive advantage and firm performance of the geminated parboiled rice community enterprise group, 2) investigate the differences in competitive advantage and firm performance when classified by organizational factors, 3) study the difference in the influence of competitive advantage on firm performance, and 4) determine proposals to enhance competitive advantage. Methodology/Technique - This research uses mixed research methods. The quantitative method was used to study the influence of competitive advantage on firm performance of community enterprises, and a qualitative method was used to determine proposals to enhance competitive advantage. In Step 1, a quantitative research method was used to identify the population which includes management groups of 36 geminated parboiled rice community enterprises consisting of a chairperson, a vice-chairperson and a supervisor of 208 people, and 137 samples. Proportional sampling and simple random sampling were used in this process. Data was collected using questionnaires. The statistics used for data analysis was frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, F-test (one way ANOVA), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression analysis. In step 2, data was collected from in-depth interviews with key informants, using a purposive sampling method. Data analysis from the interviews using the information obtained from the interview into categories and using content analysis to determine proposals. Findings - The research results found that competitive advantage and firm performance was high. The hypothesis testing results show that only the age of the community enterprise has an effect on the image of the community enterprise with the statistical significance of 0.05. All 3 independent variables composed of cost leadership, differentiation, and market focus had an influence on firm performance, by standardized coefficients (β) was .398, .426, .654 respectively. Novelty - The proposals from this research include the establishment of newly geminated parboiled rice community enterprises to accelerate the creation of the organization image to be known and accepted by consumers. Further, community enterprises should focus on developing a competitive advantage that comes from a market focus strategy. This will have a positive impact on firm performance. At present, the production of Khao Hang is produced in large quantities, and it is in demand from both domestic and international markets. It is also one of the famous products of Sakon Nakhon Province. Therefore, a group of Khao Hang community enterprise was established in Sakon Nakhon Province, by receiving support from the government agencies to promote the community's income and preserve local wisdom. Currently, there are 36 groups of Khao Hang Community enterprise, and a total of 920 farmers are members of the group (Sakon Nakhon Province Office, 2020). In the aspect of business operations of the Khao Hang community enterprise had various problems such as; insufficient production, insufficient inventory management due to produce process depends on the purchase order only. There is no advance production, because it is believed that it causes Khao Hang to lose taste. In addition, some rice paddy is stored for production but not enough for market demand, non-standard production processes include cleanliness in the production process. Financial and accounting, there is no clear account separation between groups and there is no clear revenue and cost analysis. Marketing aspect; the packaging is not unique, the color and package design is not beautiful. As for the website, there is still no website for publicizing the product. Regarding human resource management, it was found that community enterprise groups have a shortage of labor. Because Khao Hang has not yet reached the new generation. The problems presented that affect the competitiveness and firm performance of the geminated parboiled rice (Khao Hang) community enterprise group in Sakon Nakhon province. From the above reasons, it is the source of this research in order to find ways to enhance the competitive advantage and firm performance for the geminated parboiled rice (Khao Hang) community enterprise of Sakon Nakhon province. PurposeThe study aims to understand how big data analytics capabilities of tech startups help them gain competitive advantage and improve their firm performance. The study is performed for two countries: India and China. A comparative analysis is also discussed in the study.Design/methodology/approachThe study collected responses from tech startups from both India and China. A total of 502 responses were collected with 269 from India and 233 from China. The results were analyzed using Warp PLS 6.0 after testing for common method bias, endogeneity and reliability of data. The study tested five primary hypotheses and also tested the effect of two control variables: country of origin of startup and age of the startup.FindingsWe found that big data analytics capabilities have a positive and significant impact on the firm performance and competitive advantage of tech startups. While organizational culture proved to have a positive impact as a moderator, innovation was found to have non-significant effect. The results also found to have non-significant effect of age of the firm while its country of origin does play an important role in defining its success.Originality/valueThe study offer key insights for the tech startups operating in two countries which are geographically neighbors but differ in the tech expertise from each other. Moreover, the study offers key insights on how does the origin of the country contributes significantly to explaining the success and competitiveness of the firm.

Big data (BD) capabilities have now grabbed the attention of strategic management researchers because of their significant role in firm’s performance and success. Nonetheless, very little empirical evidence has so far been put forward about the contribution of BD capabilities towards a firm performance and Competitive Advantage (CA). This research examines the impact of Big Data Technological Capabilities (BDTC) and Big Data Personal Capabilities (BDPC) on firms’ performance with a mediating role of CA among the firms operating in the world’s top emerging economy such as China. Data were collected through structured questionnaires using a sample size of 312 firms. The hypotheses were tested in AMOS.21 using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results indicate that BDTC and BDPC have significant positive impact on firm performance and CA and there is also significant positive relationship between CA and firm performance. The study highlights that CA partially mediates the relationship between BDTC and firm performance as well as between BDPC and firm performance. Hence, BD-oriented firms achieve CA which in turn leads to superior performance in dynamic markets. This study discussed implications for managerial practices.

Abstract. This study proposes and justifies a Bayesian approach to modeling wavelet coefficients and finding statistically significant features in wavelet power spectra. The approach utilizes ideas elaborated in scale-space smoothing methods and wavelet data analysis. We treat each scale of the discrete wavelet decomposition as a sequence of independent random variables and then apply Bayes' rule for constructing the posterior distribution of the smoothed wavelet coefficients. Samples drawn from the posterior are subsequently used for finding the estimate of the true wavelet spectrum at each scale. The method offers two different significance testing procedures for wavelet spectra. A traditional approach assesses the statistical significance against a red noise background. The second procedure tests for homoscedasticity of the wavelet power assessing whether the spectrum derivative significantly differs from zero at each particular point of the spectrum. Case studies with simulated data and climatic time-series prove the method to be a potentially useful tool in data analysis.

Abstract Introduction Post-operative intra-abdominal adhesions remain the leading cause of small bowel obstruction (SBO) representing one of the main diagnoses warranting emergency laparotomies. The National Audit in Small Bowel Obstruction advocates the use of water-soluble contrast agents (WSCA) as initial management of SBO. We aim to assess the role and outcomes of WSCA and its rate in successfully managing SBO non-operatively. Method We conducted a 2-year retrospective analysis including all patients admitted with adhesive SBO. Outcomes of patients who received WSCA were compared to those who hadn’t. Results 118 patients were included, 27(23%) of which required immediate surgery while 91(77%) were initially managed conservatively. From the latter group, 53(58.2%) received WSCA whilst 38(41.8%) didn’t. Of the group that received WSCA, 36(39.5%) were successfully managed non-operatively, compared to 26(28.5%) that didn’t, this however lacked statistical significance. LOS didn’t differ between these two groups (5 days vs. 5.5 days, p = 0.805). 32% of the patients required eventual surgical intervention needing longer LOS regardless of receiving WSCA (6.6 days vs. 13.6 days p < 0.001). Conclusions Adhesive SBO can be managed conservatively in up to two-thirds of patients. WSCA usage has a positive impact but needs further assessment in larger studies.
