This article aims to communicate several teaching and learning activities that were redesigned for biology practical courses for Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s Foundation Science students during the restriction control movement (RMO) due to the Covid-19 outbreak. When RMO has been started the closure of the university campus resulted in postponed of biology practical face-to-face sessions in the laboratory. The teaching and learning activities have been guided by the Foundation Science Biology Laboratory Manual, however, during the pandemic, the delivery approach was modified using online platforms, including video-based blog or vlog, pre-recorded video, using real-time video conferencing i.e. Google Meet, Webex, scheduled online discussions via mobile apps i.e Whatsapp, Telegram, and greater utilization of Universiti Malaysia Sabah online learning platform, SmartV3UMS. The purpose of these redesigned methodologies that are presented in this paper was mainly focusing on delivering the established practical courses’ contents to achieve the intended learning outcomes. A total of 353 students registered for these practical courses. They were divided into 16 groups, with 22 or 23 students per group. All these interventions have facilitated students to sustain their access to Foundation in Science study despite the physical engagement limitation and have opened a pathway to a new normal of science education.

Making material available through learning management systems is standard practice in most universities, but this is generally seen as an adjunct to the ‘real’ teaching, that takes place in face-to-face classes. Lecture attendance is poor, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to engage students, both in the material being taught and campus life. This paper describes the redevelopment of a large course in scientific practice and communication that is compulsory for all science students studying at our Melbourne and Malaysian campuses, or by distance education. Working with an educational designer, a blended learning methodology was developed, converting the environment provided by the learning management system into a teaching space, rather than a filing system. To ensure focus, topics are clustered into themes with a ‘question of the week’, a pre-class stimulus and follow up activities. The content of the course did not change, but by restructuring the delivery using educationally relevant design techniques, the content was contextualised resulting in an integrated learning experience. Students are more engaged intellectually, and lecture attendance has improved. The approach we describe here is a simple and effective approach to bringing this university’s teaching and learning into the 21st century.

Technology has significantly brought changes in all aspects of human life, thechanges that occur require everyone to change from old habits to new habits thatare not used to be done. Changes in general in face-to-face classes began to shift tovirtual classes. Even the elements of education have undergone many changes bothparents, students and teachers. They experience new teaching patterns and ways ofteaching. Learning places are transformed and can be done at home, public places, and so on. Time and place are no longer a barrier to teaching and learning activitiesbecause they can be done online. Online learning is carried out by utilizing existingtechnology through media that uses the internet to carry out teaching and learningprocesses such as cellphones and laptops. This media will support the teaching andlearning process through available applications such as whatsApp, googleclassroom and so on. Learning brings many challenges and obstacles faced byparents in particular. Of course this is a challenge in itself for parents in monitoringchildren's learning activities, especially in the application of technology as alearning medium for children.

In this case study, the introductory course in an international masters program in medical education (MMedEd) called “Scholarship of Medical Education” is described. Some of the background to why the MMedEd was started and the underlying ideas and principles of the program are provided. The individual course, which consists of 10 weeks part time study on-line with an introductory face to face meeting, is described in terms of the intentions and pedagogical principles underlying the design, the teaching and learning activities, and how the students were supported to achieve the intended learning activities, as well as the challenges and concerns that arose throughout and after the course. Finally, some solutions to these problems are discussed.

Growing use of information technology and communication (ICT) tools in language courses with communication at their core has brought opportunities as well as challenges in the predominantly conventional face-to-face context of the classroom. When the French programme in the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages at The Chinese University of Hong Kong started to integrate an e-learning platform into all language courses, students as well as teachers showed reservations and even disbelief. However, it was unexpected to observe such an interdependent relationship between new technologies and the conventional teaching approach. In this paper, the broad implications of the e-adoption applied to learning French as a foreign language are investigated to highlight students’ learning habits and learning process. The strategies used to make technology act as a facilitator across cultures, and various ways to savoir-faire diffusion are also discussed. The study shows how new technologies modify in-class teaching, while the traditional face-to-face teaching and learning approach can influence choices in the use of different web tools that lead to blended models of education.

This study aims to examine the effect of teaching program activities to see the effectiveness of student learning at SD Negeri 1 Membalong. During the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching and learning activities were shifted to face-to-face learning. Students learn by using various features provided on the internet. For approximately 1 year studying at home, over time now several schools have implemented a new normal and have carried out face-to-face learning activities, one of which is at SD Negeri 1 Membalong while still paying attention to health protocols. Campus teaching program activities are one of the activities that help teachers in teaching and learning activities, administration and introduction of technology. This campus teaching activity is a program designed by Nadiem Makarim which involves students going directly to schools located in 3T areas (frontier, outermost, remote). This activity has a positive impact on students and schools involved in this activity. The purpose of this article is to see how influential this teaching activity program is, then examine how effectively students study at SD Negeri 1 Membalong during the pandemic. The Appreciation of Ethics and Civilization (PEdP) is a compulsory university course introduced in 2020 for the Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) in replacement of Ethnic Relations. As a new compulsory university course, among its objectives is to ensure the students appreciate the ethics and civilization that appears in the multi-ethnic society of Malaysia. Accordingly, High Impact Education Practices (HEPs) have been practiced in Teaching and Learning activities to improve the students’ critical and analytical thinking in dealing with challenges both at present and in the future. This paper presents a discussion on the effectiveness of online teaching and learning of PEdP in accordance with the new norm. To do so, a study was conducted among the undergraduate students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The matters examined include the objectives, curriculum, and methods of teaching and learning. The study shows that the fundamental aims and objectives of this course were achieved despite being thought entirely online but it is expected that both goals and objectives can be highly achieved vita the application of traditional teaching and learning method of face to face teaching and learning activities.
