Abstract: Patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus are characterized by an acceleration thrombopoiesis, an increased platelet turnover and a decreased platelet survival time which affect platelet count, that cause the increasing of proportion of large and reactive platelets, and hence more thrombogenic. People with diabetes have a two- to fourfold increase in the risk of dying from the complications of cardiovascular disease. Aspirin therapy is recommended for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in most people with diabetes. This study was an descriptive analytic method with cross sectional study design. The subjects in this study involve 112 people, 56 people treated with aspirin, and the 56 others were not who signed in endocrine metabolic department of RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D Kandou Manado. Data were taken from medical record. The Mann-Whitney test showed that there was no significant difference between the platelet count in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus treated with aspirin and patients who were not. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between the platelet count in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitustreated with aspirin and patients who were not. Key word:Aspirin, Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus, Platelet Count  Abstrak: Pada pasien diabetes melitus tipe-2 terjadi percepatan trombopoiesis, peningkatan pergantian trombosit dan penurunan waktu hidup trombosit yang mempengaruhi jumlah trombosit, yang menyebabkan terjadinya peningkatan ukuran trombosit yang lebih besar dan reaktif, sehingga bersifat trombogenik.

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a degenerative disease which has increased from year to year. Type 2 diabetes has the highest number of cases. There is a change in platelet count in type 2 diabetes. The change in platelet count can lead to vascular complications in DM. This was a descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional design by using the medical record data of type 2 diabetic patients in the outpatient department of Prof. DR. R. D. Kandou Hospital, Manado. Subjects who met the inclusion criteria were 72 patients; 36 patients with vascular complications and 36 patients without vascular complications. Data were analyzed by using the Mann-Whitney test to determine the ratio of the platelet count in patient with type 2 diabetes patient with and without vascular complication, with α = 0.05. The Mann-Whitney test showed that there was no significant difference in platelet count among patients with type 2 diabetes, with and without vascular complication (P = 0.051). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the platelet count of type 2 diabetes patients with and without vascular complication.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease of global health importance. It is a metabolic disorder caused by increased levels of blood glucose over a prolonged period of time. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is usually associated with obesity and insulin resistance. Several studies have also revealed that diabetes mellitus hampers pulmonary functions. This study was aimed at estimating the spirometric indices in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study of T2DM patients and apparently healthy control attending the medical outpatient clinic in a tertiary institution in south western Nigeria. Results: A total of 146 participants with 73 patients with T2DM and 73 control groups. There were no significant differences in the age, body mass index, and gender distribution of the diabetics and control. However, patients with diabetes had higher SBP (133.2±20.17 mmHg vs 111.6±6.5 mmHg p<0.0001), and DBP (78.4±11.8mmHg vs 73.7±6.3 mmHg, p=0.003) when compared to the control. The mean FEV (1.98±0.5 vs 2.09±1.2, p=0.033), FVC (2.35±0.6 vs 2.53±1.3, p=0.045) and FEV/FVC ratio (83.61±7.2 vs 81.14±10.7, p=0.029) were significantly lower in diabetic patients when compared to matched controls. There was no significant difference in the PEF and FEF of both groups. Conclusion: Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients had significant decrease in their spirometric indices, hence pulmonary function should be included in the periodic comprehensive diabetic check for holistic management.

To analyze the correlation between functional health literacy (FHL) and self-efficacy (SE) in people with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Cross-sectional study was conducted among September and October 2019, with 196 people with type 2 diabetes. Data were collected using the Functional Literacy in Health instrument (B-TOFHLA) and the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DMSES). Bivariate analysis was used to verify the relationship among the constructs. Most diabetics showed an average B-TOFHLA score of 74.75, considered adequate, and self-efficacy of 4.07, high. The association between SE and FHL in the bivariate analysis found no statistical significance ( p > .05), in the same sense as the B-TOFHLA score and the DMSES domains ( p > .05). Constructs were not related to each other in terms of skills arising from judgments and decisions with motivational confidence by the investigated audience.

ABSTRACT Objective: to investigate the association between resilience and sociodemographic variables and the health of people with chronic kidney disease and / or type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: a cross-sectional observational study performed with 603 people with chronic kidney disease and / or type 2 diabetes mellitus. A tool to collect socio-demographic and health data and the Resilience Scale developed by Connor and Davidson were applied. A descriptive and multivariate analysis was performed. Results: the study participants had on average 61 years old (SD= 13.2), with a stable union (52.24%), religion (96.7%), retired (49.09%), with primary education (65%) and income up to three minimum wages. Participants with kidney disease showed less resilience than people with diabetes. Conclusion: the type of chronic illness, disease duration, body mass index and religious beliefs influenced the resilience of the study participants.
