Waterway sand and pit sand are the most normally utilized fine aggregates for concrete creation in many parts of the world. Huge scale extraction of these materials presents genuine ecological risk in numerous parts of the nation. Aside from the ecological danger, there still exists the issue of intense lack in many regions. In this way, substitute material in place of river sand for concrete production should be considered. The paper means to examine the compressive and split tensile qualities of concrete produced using quarry residue, sand, and a blend of sand and quarry dust. The experimentation is absolutely research facility based. A total of 60 concrete cubes of size 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm, and 60 cylinders 150 mm in diameter and 300 mm deep, conforming to M50 grade were casted. All the samples were cured and tested with a steady water/concrete proportion of 0.31. Out of the 60 blocks cast, 20 each were made out of natural river sand, quarry dust and an equivalent blend of sand and quarry dust. It was discovered that the compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete produced using the blend of quarry residue and sand was higher than the compressive qualities of concrete produced using 100% sand and 100% quarry dust.

Natural river sand is one of the important constituent materials in concrete production while stone dust is a material obtained from crusher plants which is also sometimes being used either partially or fully in replacement of natural river sand in concrete production. Use of stone dust in concrete not only improves the quality of concrete but also conserve the natural river sand. However, due its scarcity and environmental degradation caused resulting from excessive mining of Natural river sand, there is need to investigate an alternative material of the same quality which can replace river sand in concrete production. In the present study, experiments were carried out to study the gradation of aggregates, workability, compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete made using quarry dust as replacement of fine aggregate at 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%. Grade M15 of concrete was produced with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) for referral concrete while M25 of concrete was prepared for compressive strength and split tensile strength concrete. Workability and Compressive strength were determined at different replacement level of fine aggregate and optimum replacement level was determined based on compressive strength. Results showed that by replacing 50% of fine aggregate with quarry dust, concrete of maximum compressive strength can be produced as compared to all other replacement levels. The effect of quarry dust on compressive strength and split tensile strength was investigated and from the overall result obtained, it was observed that the compressive strength and split tensile strength increased significantly for all the curing ages from 0% to 50% replacement level of quarry dust. Maximum value obtained for 28day compressive and tensile strength were 25N/mm2 and 2.3N/mm2 respectively and this occurred at 50% replacement.

Nowadays development of infrastructures is becoming number one priority in the world, particularly in the developing countries. So there are great demands within the construction industries for river sand as fine aggregate used in the production of concrete. This has created a very difficult situation; the cost of river sand has increased and also there is great fear from environmentalist and ecologist that in the future there may be scarcity of river sand and the environment and the ecology will be distorted. Hence, the need to find materials which are affordable and available to partially or totally replaced river sand in the production of concrete. This work is focused on the use of quarry dust as a total replacement to river sand in the production of concrete, and comparing the results (compressive strength) to that obtained from conversional concrete made with river sand

The lightweight aggregate is an aggregate that weighs less than the usual rock aggregate and the quarry dust is a rock particle used in the concrete for the experimentation. The significant intention of the proposed technique is to frame a mathematical modeling with the aid of the optimization techniques. The mathematical modeling is done by minimizing the cost and time consumed in the case of extension of the real time experiment. The proposed mathematical modeling is utilized to predict four output parameters such as compressive strength (Mpa), split tensile strength (Mpa), flexural strength (Mpa), and deflection (in mm). Here, the modeling is carried out with three different optimization techniques like genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and ant colony optimization (ACO) with 80% of data from experiment utilized for the training and the remaining 20% for the validation. Finally, while testing, the error value is minimized and the performance obtained in the ACO for the parameters such as compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength, and deflection is 91%, 98%, 87%, and 94% of predicted values, respectively, in the mathematical modeling.


The present Investigation is aimed at utilizing low cost material Dolomite powder and waste material Quarry dust as partial replacement of cement and sand in concrete. This experimental investigation is carried out in three stages. In 1st stage M25 grade of concrete is produced by replacing cement by 0%, 6%, 12% and 18% of Dolomite Powder. In 2nd Stage concrete is produced by keeping the optimum 12% of dolomite powder as constant and sand is replaced by quarry dust in the percentage of 0%, 25%, 35% and 45%. In 3rd stage the optimum percentage of Dolomite Powder and Quarry Dust (DP+QD) Concrete are used to determine the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of concrete and to check the flexural behavior of RCC beams. It is found that the concrete made of low cost material dolomite powder and waste material quarry dust increases the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of concrete when compared to that of normal concrete. It also concluded that the first crack load and ultimate load of dolomite powder and quarry dust reinforced concrete beams increases when compared with normal reinforced concrete beams. From study it is concluded that the low cost material Dolomite powder & Quarry dust can be used in construction works which results in construction cost. By using natural resources the environment is protected.

The wide variety of industrial and domestic applications of plastic products has fuelled a global trend in their use. The vast amount of plastic items that are discarded after use, on the other hand, pollutes the environment. In light of this, the current study  investigated the use of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) as substitute for natural sand in concrete production. Locally sourced river sand was replaced with industrially ground waste PET in proportions of 4 to 20% at a step of 4% by the weight of natural sand whereas other concrete constituents (cement, granite, water-cement ratio and superplasticizer) were kept constant. A Grade M40 concrete with a mix proportion of 1:1:2:0.35 (cement: sand: granite: water-to-cement ratio) was used for all concrete mixes.  Concrete without PET represents the control. Fresh (Slump) and hardened (compressive, split tensile and flexural) properties of the produced concrete were assessed using standard testing methods. The results showed that the slump of concrete decreased by 1.8% and 12.5% with an increase in PET content from 0 to 20%. The 28-day compressive strength of concrete containing PET was lower than the control. However, concrete with 4% PET compared considerably well with control with the compressive strength value exceeding the target strength of 40 N/mm2 while concretes containing PET beyond 4% had compressive strength below the target strength. The split tensile strength of concrete containing 4% PET was higher than that of the control but exhibited lower flexural strength than the control at the age of 28 days. It was concluded that the reuse of PET as a substitute for natural sand as an alternative waste disposal solution for eco-friendly concrete development and attainment of a pollution-free environment is viable.

The use of crushed quarry dust as a partial replacement of river sand in concrete production was investigated in this study. This is expedient as quarry dust can be available at some locations with insufficient river sand for construction purposes. The use of quarry dust is also in concrete is also a measure necessary for improvement of concrete strength. River sand was replaced with quarry dust for different mix designs of concrete for 0% to 25% replacement levels with 5% intervals. The physical properties of river sand and quarry dust were tested and reported and the workability as well as compressive strengths of the concrete mixtures were also tested. It was observed that the slump values increased with increase in percentage replacement of sand with quarry dust. The compressive strength of cubes at 28 day curing for control mixture of 1:3:6 at 0% partial replacement of river sand with quarry dust was 12.6N/mm2 but compressive strengths of 21.5 N/mm2 and 26.0 N/mm2 were gotten for 1:2:4 concrete and 1:1.5:3 concrete respectively. As the quarry dust content increased to 25%, the 28day compressive strength increased to 13.58 N/mm2 and 21.57 N/mm2 for the 1:3:6 and 1:2:4 mixes respectively. Compressive strength values decreased to a value of 25.72N/mm2 for the 1:1.5:3 concrete mix. The maximum compressive strength values were reached at 20% quarry dust content at the age of 28 days for the three concrete grades investigated. The increase in compressive strength with inclusion of quarry dust was attributed to the higher specific gravity of quarry dust above river sand. The compressive strength of quarry dust concrete continued to increase with age for all the percentages of quarry dust contents. Quarry dust was recommended as a suitable partial replacement for river bed sand in concrete production.

Abstract Development in Indonesia is increasing day by day. This has resulted in the construction sector from year to year experiencing a lot of progress both in terms of planning/design and in terms of updating the construction methods used. Tana Toraja regency is precise in Saluputti districts. the Maulu river is a source of a lot of coarse and fine aggregates that can be used as a material for mixing concrete. Because this area is the meeting point between the largest rivers. especially in Tana Toraja. Therefore. in this study. coarse and fine aggregates from Tana Toraja. Saluputti district are used as research objects with fly ash as an additional ingredient. The research objective was to determine the effect of fly ash substitution on compressive strength and split tensile in concrete with Tana Toraja aggregate and to determine the characteristics of the concrete produced using the aggregate from Tana Toraja with fly ash substitution. The research method is a sample testing method. in which 72 samples were tested consisting of 36 samples of compressive strength and 36 samples of split tensile strength. The test was carried out at the Concrete Structure and Material Laboratory. Department of Civil Engineering. Universitas Kristen Indonesia Paulus – Makassar South Sulawesi. The results showed that the use of fly ash as a partial substitute for cement would reduce the strength of concrete compared to concrete without the use of fly ash. The greater the level of fly ash given. the strength of the concrete will be reduced by using the aggregate from Tana Toraja district.

Concrete is the most widely used composite construction material. Fine aggregate plays a very important role for imparting better properties to concrete in its fresh and hardened state. Generally, river sand was used as fine aggregate for construction. Due to the continuous mining of sand from riverbed led to the depletion of river sand and it became a scarce material. Also, sand mining from river bed caused a lot of environmental issues. As a substitute to river sand, Robo sand has been used. In this present experimental study a comparative study has been carried out to check the usability of Robo sand in place of natural sand. This study involves determination of some major properties of concrete like compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural tensile strength and durability in acidic medium made of both the sands. Based on proposed studies, quality of Robo sand is equivalent to natural sand in many respects, such as cleanliness, grading, strength, angularity, specific gravity. Conclusion have been arrived that Robo sand produced from VSI (vertical shaft impact or) is a suitable and viable substitute to river sand and could be effectively used in making concrete which provides adequate strength and durability for the concrete. In the design of concrete structures, concrete is taken into account by taking its compressive strength value. The compressive strength of the concrete made of Robo sand is observed to be very nearer to the strength of the concrete made of natural sand in the present investigation, there by 100% replacement is reasonable.

In recent years, concrete in the construction industry has rapidly increased worldwide, including developing countries like India. The raw materials required to produce such a quantity require huge depletion of natural resources. On the other hand, disposal of paper waste, fly ash, and plastic waste is one of the biggest problems faced by many countries, including India, the amount of waste collected and recycled is less compared to disposal quantity. The use of these wastes in concrete reduces the disposal of waste in nature. In this experiment work, the use of these wastes in the concrete has been studied. Preliminary tests like specific gravity, fineness modulus, and water absorption have been carried out on the materials. Various mix designs are prepared by partial replacement of cement with fly ash and paper pulp, and sand is completely replaced with the quarry dust, and coarse aggregate is replaced with shredded plastic waste to create sustainable concrete. A comparative study on the properties like slump cone, the weight of the cubes, compressive strength and split tensile strength, and feasibility of such concrete has been carried out. Results indicated that the weight of cubes started to decrease with the addition of waste. Compressive strength and split tensile strength show that the strength started to fall with the addition of plastic. The cost of concrete decreased with the addition of waste. 5 % of plastic waste in concrete and 3 % of paper pulp, and 5 % of fly ash is considered the optimal replacement percentage.


In the present era, concrete is one of the extensively used construction materials. Enormous efforts are made to improve the tensile strength of concrete due to its weakness in tension. In this paper, an attempt is made to enhance the tensile strength of concrete by introducing jute fiber in concrete. Waste from the crushing plants is used as a replacement of fine aggregates to achieve good compressive strength and jute fiber is added to enhance tensile strength. The length of the jute fiber used is 25mm and the percentage taken was 0.25%, 0.5% and 0.75% of the volume of concrete. Stone quarry dust is replaced as 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% of the weight of fine aggregates. The compressive test split tensile test and the flexural test is performed at 7, 14 and 28 days by casting cubes, cylinders, and beams for the respective tests. Experimental test under a controlled environment revealed that stone quarry dust raised 13% compressive strength at 28 days and jute fiber raised 21.15% tensile strength at 28 days. Further investigation is carried out by introducing both stone quarry dust and jute fiber into the concrete and optimal results are discussed. Final test exposed that amalgamation of jute fiber and stone quarry dust imposed a positive impact on compressive, split tensile and flexural strength of concrete
