Abstract This study intends to find out what is the initial knowledge of the students before they were treated using Frayer Model and Concept Mapping Strategy, ascertain of the significant difference between these two teaching strategies, and to know the responses of the students after they were taught using Frayer Model and Concept Mapping Strategy are the aims of this research. This is a quantitative study with comparative design to know the students’ vocabulary acquisition test. The research instrument of this study is pre-and-post-test. This study was conducted among eleventh grader students at SMAN 1 Parongpong. The results of this study showed that the initial score for both respondents are quite similar with the score for FM group which is 30.50 and for CMS group which is 33.40. It is also known that there is a significant difference in students’ vocabulary acquisition between students who are taught with Frayer Model and those who are taught with Concept Mapping Strategy showed by the result of the mean differences from both groups are 0.000 < 0.05. The questionnaire’s result also supports that both teaching strategies are eligible to be applied in teaching active and passive voice construction with the score for FM class which is 55% and for the CMS class which is 80%, it can be categorized as “Good”. It implies that the implementation of Frayer Model and Concept Mapping Strategy enhances student’s vocabulary acquisition.   Keywords: Language Proficiency, Vocabulary Acquisition, Frayer Model, Concept Mapping Strategy

This study is aimed at finding out the effect of concept mapping strategy on the students’ reading comprehension. The study was done through quasi-experimental design which involved pre-test and post-test procedures. There was a try out before administering the tests. Then,the pre-test was administered before giving treatments and the post-test was administered after the treatments. The data collection techniques were tests. The population consisted of 119 students. A cluster sampling technique was used to take them as samples. The samples were divided into two groups; experimental group and control group. Then, the data were analyzed using t-test and paired sample t-test methods to find out whether there was significant difference between the experimental group taught by using concept mapping strategy as the treatment and the control group taught conventionally. The results of the research shows that the significant probabilities were higher than 0.05 (>0.05) ) in both paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. It meant that there was significant difference on the students’ reading comprehension in the pre-test and in the post-test of the classes. There was also a significant difference on their reading comprehension before and after treatments in the experimental class. The value of eta square was 0.68 for their reading comprehension. In sum up, the the application of concept mapping gives positive effect toward the students’ reading comprehension.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of using digital-based concept mapping as strategy on students’ achievements and attitudes. Data was collected from 58 students enrolled in the course of ”Introduction to Educational Technology” in Instructional and Teaching Technologies Department at Sultan Qaboos University. Two sections out of four sections were selected randomly as the sample of the study. One of the sections was randomly chosen as experimental group (n = 27) and the other was control group (n = 31). Both pre- and post- achievement tests were used. The results of the study revealed that students who were taught with digital-based concept mapping strategy performed better than those who were taught with the conventional method. There was a significant difference between male and female students in the post test scores of the experimental group in favor of females. In addition, no interaction effect for the independent variables was found. The study also showed that students in the experimental group had positive attitude towards using digital-based concept mapping in learning edu- cational technology.

 This study intends to find out what is the initial knowledge of the students before they were treated using Numbered Heads Together (NHT) and Team Games Tournament (TGT), ascertain of the significant difference between these two teaching strategies, and to know the responses of the students after they taught using Numbered Heads Together and Team Games Tournament are the aims of this research. This is a quantitative study with comparative design to know the students' knowledge of active and passive construction test. The research instrument of this study is pre-and-posttest. This study was conducted among seventh-grade students at SMPN 10 Cimahi. The results of this study showed that the initial score for both respondents is quite similar to the score for NHT group is 59.07 and for TGT group is 58.33. It is also known that there is a significant difference in students' knowledge on active and passive voice construction between students who are taught with Numbered Heads Together and those who are taught with Team Games Tournament showed by the result of the mean differences from both groups are 0.005 < 0.05. The questionnaire's result also supports that both teaching strategies are eligible to be applied in teaching active and passive voice construction with the score for NHT class is 64.83% and for the TGT class is 63.34%, it can be categorized as "Good". It implies that the implementation of Numbered Heads Together and Team Games Tournament enhances student's knowledge of active and passive

Emphasis on English language proficiency and digital literacy among Malaysian students in schools have been given utmost priority in the Malaysian Education Transformation (2013 – 2025). With the introduction of Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), (Council of Europe, 2001) the emphasize for low proficient students to acquire vocabulary knowledge is crucial for them to move progressively into the next band as stated in the CEFR global scales. Yet, concerns arises as how the implementation of (CEFR) will impact the low proficient students with almost none to limited vocabulary acquisition. This poses an extremely high risk of these students being left far behind as English is a second language to most students. Thus, the aim of this study is to use blended learning to expand the vocabulary acquisition among low proficient students and enable them to move progressively in the CEFR band. The mixed method study employed questionnaires, face to face interviews, pre and post test and observations to collect data from 20 low proficient students aged 14 from a semi urban secondary school. Data collected were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The study found that using blended learning not only enhances low proficient students vocabulary count in CEFR English but it also promotes autonomous learning and understanding of sentence structures. Hence, the use of blended learning proves to be a crucial alternative for low proficient students to enhance their vocabulary knowledge and understanding of sentence structures through digital literacy that is capable of motivating and challenging them to achieve their highest potential.

The study analyzed the effectiveness of Contextualized Differentiated Instruction (CDI) in the teaching of Contemporary Issues, a Social Studies subject in Grade 10 with these of objectives by: (1) Determining its pre-post-test results; (2) Testing its significant mean difference; (3) Analyzing its learning competencies and identifying appropriate strategies; and (4) Formulating an enhanced CDI Model of Contextualized Teaching and Learning (CTL). A one group quasi-experimental design, using pretest-and-posttest, determined the respondents’ performance on Contemporary Issues. A significant difference in the pre-posttest demonstrated an increase of proficiency manifested by an increase in the mean scores and enhanced qualitative equivalents. An above proficiency level revealed in the posttest was attributed by the engagement of the respondents in the learning process using contextual differentiated learning activities. Matching the learning competencies with the three learning domains of Gardner’s multiple intelligences resulted in a substantial utilization of the interactive and prospective teaching strategies, except on the analytic teaching strategies that were found inadequate. Hence, the creation of the COVID-19 Model may juxtapose the essence of an enhanced CDI Model of CTL. The findings have social and practical value to support differentiation of instruction in the 21st century education.

Background: In this study, the effect of recently popular intermittent fasting on weight loss and the role of exercise combined with intermittent fasting on some physiological parameters were investigated. Aim: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of intermittent fasting combined with exercise and intermittent fasting alone on some physiological parameters. Methods: A total of 36 healthy individuals between 20 and 24 years of age, including 18 in the experimental group (exercising) and 18 in the control group (non-exercising), who were assigned by the random selection method, participated in the study. The individuals in the experimental group exercised 36 minutes a day, 5 days a week, along with intermittent fasting for 30 days. On the other hand, the control group did not exercise during this period. Results: When the within-group pre-test and post-test physiological parameter values were compared, a significant difference was found in all values of the experimental group (p<0.05). Similarly, a significant difference was found in the physiological parameter values of the control group (p<0.05) too, with the exception of body mass index and body fluid ratio. A statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of the mean differences between the pre-test and post-test physiological parameter values (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Based on the findings, it could be concluded that intermittent fasting is an effective method for losing weight and reducing body fat and that adding low-intensity exercise to this routine ensures more effective weight reduction. Hence, starving for a certain period of time has a favorable effect on the physiological parameters, and the practice of exercising in addition to dieting further improves these values. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of using the mind mapping strategy on learning vocabulary for Saudi Learners. Fifty female students from the English Language centre at Taibah University in Saudi Arabia were selected to participate in this study. All students were homogenous in terms of their English language proficiency. The students were performing at the intermediate level of the English language. Their level of English language proficiency was determined by the Oxford Placement Test. Participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. Twenty-five students in the experimental group were taught vocabulary using the mind mapping strategy for six weeks. The control group was taught using traditional methods of vocabulary teaching, such as memorising. To test the effectiveness of the mind mapping strategy, two types of tests were applied for both groups: a pre-test and a post-test. At the end of the treatment, the results of the post-test showed a significant improvement in Second language (L2) vocabulary acquisition by Saudi learners in the experimental group. The findings of this study indicate some important implications for L2 learning, such as that mind mapping facilitates vocabulary learning by increasing the knowledge and the acquisition of the meanings of the vocabulary words used. It also helped with the vocabulary learning process by increasing the level of the motivation of Saudi students in learning new words.

This research entitled “Investigating The Effect of Drama as Teaching Technique on Grade Eight Students’ Vocabulary Acquisition at MTs Assyairiyah Attahiriyah Jakarta” principally aims to investigate whether or not drama technique significantly affects students’ vocabulary acquisition. The research samples were taken using cluster random sampling, with the total number of samples being 60 students. The location of this research was MTs Assyairiyah Attahiriyah Jakarta. The research methodology adopted was quasi-experiment method, with the research design being post test only control group design. To collect the data, the students were given the objective test, numbering 30 items. The research data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The findings indicated that there was significant difference of post-test score between the students who received drama technique and students who did not receive drama technique. It can be seen from the data analysis using ANOVA that showed Fobserved (90.988) is higher than the critical value of Ftable (at the significant level of 0.05 and df = 1/84), namely 3.96. it means that drama technique has significant effect on students’ vocabulary acquisition.

Background: Fostering meaningful and self-directed learning among medical graduates is essential to mold them into competent physicians. Concept mapping is one such educational tool facilitating meaningful learning by organizing and integrating information. In our study it was used as a learning tool for problem analysis in Physiology. Material and Methods: Students of the first MBBS Professional year were divided into groups of fifteen; a group facilitator was allotted to each group. After initial practice, students constructed concept maps in Problem based learning (PBL) sessions on case based scenarios; each group finalized a map and then designed charts based on these maps. Student’s analytical ability was determined through differences in score between MCQ based pretest and post test. Charts were evaluated and perception of students regarding effectiveness of concept maps designing was taken. Results:  One hundred and thirty two students completed the study. There was a   statistically significant difference in the pre and post test scores. The items in the Concept maps charts evaluation sheet were ranked as good or excellent in 75% of Charts except the item on horizontal interlinking and cross linking hierarchy which was ranked as satisfactory in 63% of Charts.  Students considered activity of collection of information, discussions, designing, active involvement and teamwork as useful. Conclusions: Self designed Concept maps can be a novel   approach for problem analysis in Physiology. Summary:  Concept maps are useful for summarizing information; integrating mapping in PBL can improve critical thinking ability of students and renew interest in a basic science subject like Physiology. <p style="text-align: justify;">The performance in biology at the secondary level has not been as good as expected. This has been a matter of concern. Thus, there has been a continuous focus on exploring newer innovative learner-centered and friendly instructional strategies to enhance understanding and retention in biology. This study, therefore, determined the effects of Concept Mapping (CM) and Cooperative Mastery Learning (CML) on fostering retention in photosynthesis among secondary schools in Nyamagabe district, Rwanda. A pre-test and post-test non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. Data were obtained from 151 students taught with CM, 144 students taught with CML, and 154 students taught with Conventional Teaching Methods (CTM). The Photosynthesis Retention Test (KR-21= 0.82) was used for data collection. The data were mainly analyze d using mean and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that the CM and CML treatment groups outperformed the CTM group in retention in photosynthesis. There was a statistically significant difference in favor of the CM between the two experimental groups. The male and female students taught using CM retained equally in photosynthesis while gender difference was revealed in the mean retention scores of the students exposed to the CML, with females retained significantly higher than males. The study concluded that the CM and CML strategies were more effective than CTM. It was suggested, among other things, that teachers should be encouraged to apply CM and CML strategies when teaching biology.</p>
