This research was a descriptive research with the main aim to analyze the students’ descriptive text quality in English subject. The components that were analized  analyzed in the descriptive text written  by the students were developing ideas, organizing ideas, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics. These five components were analyzed based on the five categories, they are excellent, good, satisfactory, weak and poor. The participants of this research were 30 students in their second year of MAN 2 Padang. The topic was about  places, in which the students chose the place that they want to describe. The technique used to get the participants of the reserach was cluster random sampling technique. The data of the research were taken by using writing test. In this research it was found that the students faced some difficulties in organizing ideas and developing ideas. Some of the students were unable to develop the ideas well. It was also found in their second writing, there were no improvements on the developing ideas. Furthermore, the students were unable to identify and describe the objects in organizing ideas components. In the grammar components, the students did not find major difficulties because the tense was simple present tense which was expressed only in simple sentences. For the vocabulary component, it was found that few students were unable to use the appropriate words to describe the place and they used some Indonesian words too. For the mechanics component, the students did not find major difficulties in using the appropriate mechanics. Based on the result of the research, the students are suggested to pay attention to the whole components of the descriptive text especially in developing and organizing ideas components. It is suggested to the teacher of MAN 2 Padang to use an effective strategy and give various ways to develops students’ ideas. The teacher should help the students to brainstorm the ideas or make an outline of their writing, to help the students to organize and develop their ideas well.

This research was designed to describe the ability of the second year students to comprehend reading text according to the levels of question at SMAN 1 Sijunjung. To be more specific it aimed at describing students’ ability to comprehend reading text according to the levels of comprehension questions. This research was descriptive research. The population of this research was the second year students at SMAN 1 Sijunjung. The number of members of population was 165 students. The researcher took 80 students as the sample. In selecting sample, the researcher used stratified cluster random sampling technique. The data of this research were the students’ scores on comprehending text according to the levels of question. To take the data, the researcher used reading test. In analyzing the data, there were some steps she used: the first was presentation of raw scores and calculation of Mean and Standard Deviation. The second was classifying the students’ ability into high, moderate, and low ability. The third was determining the percentage of the students who had high, moderate, and low ability. The result of the data analysis showed that the ability of the second year students to comprehend reading text according to the levels of question at SMAN 1 Sijunjung was moderate. It was proved by the fact that 41 students (51.25%) had moderate ability. Specifically, the ability of the students to comprehend reading text at the level of comprehension questions was moderate. . It was proved by the fact that 55 students (68.75%) had moderate ability. Based on the findings above, it was suggested that the teachers give more exercises, beginning from the low levels of question to the high levels of question. It was also suggested to the teachers that they must promote a discussion to answer the questions on the texts being taught.

Picture Word Inductive Model is an inquiry-oriented strategy for teaching writing that uses picture containing familiar objects to fully lead students into inquiring about words, adding words to their writing, and ultimately developing the title, sentences, and paragraphs about their picture. This experimental study aimed to find out the effectiveness of PWIM to teach writing viewed from students’ interest in the eighth grade of MTs. ASWAJA Pontianak. Sampling technique was through cluster random sampling resulting 2 classes which consist of 26 students of each class contributed to the study. Technique of data collection encompassed writing test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using 2x2 Multifactor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s HSD Test. The result revealed that: (1) Picture Word Inductive Model(PWIM) is more effective than Controlled-Writing Strategy (CWS) to teach writing; (2) students having high interest have better writing skill than those having low interest. (3) there is an interaction between teaching strategies and the level of interest on students’ writing skill.

This research represents the descriptive research to describe students’ ability of eleventh grade students at SMAN 14 Pekanbaru in writing hortatory exposition text. The total number of eleventh grade students at SMAN 14 Pekanbaru in academic year 2015/2016 was 210 students that consisted of 7 classes. In this research, the researcher used ‘cluster random sampling technique” to choose the sample, and the total sample of this research amount to 30 students. The data was collected through writing test, where the students were asked to write a hortatory exposition text based on the topics that were provided by researcher of this research. The test was done around 90 minutes for every time of the test. The students’ entire test was scored by two persons as scorers of this research. Those two scores gave scores to the students’ test based on the criteria in the instrumentation of this research. The result showed that the student’ ability in writing hortatory exposition text was categorized “average to good”. It can be proven by the average of students’ writing test score that was 61.65 that cannot achieve the passing grade yet.   Key words: Writing Ability, Hortatory Exposition Text

This research was aimed to find out the correlation between students’ creativity and their writing skill. The kind of this research was simple correlational study (quantitative approach). The population of this research was 77 of the second grade students of MA NW Peseng. The sample of this research was 21 consist of one class. The sample technique that used in this research was cluster random sampling technique by using lottery. The intruments that was used in this research were tests, that were verbal creativity test and writing test. Then the technique that used in analyzing the data was Pearson Product Moment formula. From the research, the r of xy score was higher than r-table (0.829>0.456) in 5% and 1% level of significance. Based on the result of this research, it could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ creativity and their writing skill meant Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and Null hypothesis (H0) was rejected.

The aim of this research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective to use film as a media in teaching writing for tertiary level students. This study used preexperimental method which was focused on writing skill at the eleventh grade students of Senior High School Tugumulyo. The writer formulated two hypotheses; they were null hypothesis (Ho) and the alternative hypothesis (Ha). There were 352 students from nine classes as the population of this study. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The result was XI IA.2 class which consisted of 37 students. In this case, the writer collected the data by using writing test. Based on the findings, the result showed that tobtained was 6.38 where ttable was 1.697. It showed that tobtained was higher than ttable (tobtained more than ttable). Finally, the writer concludes that it was significantly effective to use film as  media in teaching writing at the eleventh grade students of Senior High School Tugumulyo. <p class="BodyArtikel">This study aims to uncover what extent of the students’ expectation of English as a medium of instruction (EMI) used by the English teacher in teaching English at senior high schools in Palangka Raya, Indonesia. A survey research method was applied. The survey was conducted at the four schools: MAN Model, MA Muslimat NU, SMAN 4, and SMKN 2 in Palangka Raya. To collect the data, the study employs the questionnaire with 10 items given to 134 students of the second grade taken from one class of each of the schools. It was used the cluster random sampling technique to take the samples. The items were designed for evaluating the factual, behavioral, and attitudinal condition of EMI in the English classroom. As a result of the study, it is shown that most of the students agree of EMI dominantly applied by the English teacher in the teaching of English subject. By implementing EMI in this classroom, it can increase students’ English ability with appropriate English standard, motivate them to learn English, improve their confidence to speak English, help them to comprehend English textbook or article, and assist them to understand the international culture.</p>

This study aims at investigating the presence of correlation between comprehension of language elements and attitude towards Indonesian language with scientific paper writing competence. This research was conducted on the students of MIPA-FKIP UNS from July to November 2015 by employing survey method as a tool of correlational study. The population included all students of PMIPA-FKIP UNS attending Indonesian language course and the research samples were 70 students, gathered using cluster random sampling technique. The research data were collected with composition test of scientific paper writing, test of comprehension of language elements and questionnaires on attitude towards Indonesian language. Afterwards, the data were statistically analyzed using simple and multiple regression analyses and correlation analysis. The researchresults indicate that 1) there is a positive and significant correlation between comprehension of language elements and scientific paper writing competence; 2) there is a positive and significant correlation between attitude towards Indonesian language and scientific paper writing competence; and 3) there is a positive and significant correlation between comprehension of language el ements and attitude towards Indonesian language along with scientific paper writing competence.

This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The population is all students of class VIII even semester of SMP Negeri 5 Bandar Lampung totaling 187 students. Sampling technique a. The technique used in this study is the cluster random sampling technique. Because the population is more than 100 people, the authors determine the sample in this study is 16% or as many as 30 students. This study aims to: (1) determine the percentage of students' abilities in solving spatial problems, (2) find out the causes of students' difficulties in solving spatial problems, (3) find out how to overcome students' difficulties in solving spatial problems. . Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded: (1) students who are able to solve spatial problems are 62.99% and those who have difficulty are 37.01%, (2) the causes of students experiencing difficulties in solving spatial problems are (1) students do not understand the concept of building space in applying it to a problem, (2) students are not careful in working on every question that exists. As for how to overcome student difficulties, namely: (1) increasing students' ability to understand the concept of building space by giving emphasis when delivering material (2) more evaluation in the form of practice questions at the end of each learning activity, (3) giving homework for finalize the material that has been presented.

This research aims to find out   (1). Variety of English that the students use most  in Cokroaminoto University of Palopo (2). The students’ perceptions toward American and British English. It is a descriptive research. The population of this research is the seventh students of Cokroaminoto Palopo which consists of three parallel classes. The total population is 120 students. Cluster random sampling technique is used to determine the sample. This research took one class as sample. The result of this research shows the students use American English variety in vocabulary even though they think that they mix both varieties of English and they have ever exposed both of varieties, the students prefer American English in teaching learning process as they think that it easy to be pronounced and understood and it is frequently used by them. Other result shows that the students mostly notice the differences between American and British English on pronunciation. But minority of the students still  think that British English is cool, more formal, general variety of English and they like it.

This research is motivated by the many children of oil palm farmers who continue the efforts of their parents to cultivate oil palm, this is allegedly because of the way parents educate children as oil palm farmers. This study aims to describe children's responses to the way parents educate children as oil palm farmers which consists of three types of ways to educate children: (a) exemplary, (b) habituation, (c) advice, (d) attention, and (e) punishment. This research includes quantative descriptive research. The population in this study were children of oil palm farmers totaling 120 people with a sample of 60 people using cluster random sampling technique. Data collection techniques used are questionnaires or questionnaires, while data analysis uses a percentage formula. The results showed that children's responses to the way parents educate children as oil palm farmers in Nagari Lunang Selatan, Lunang Subdistrict, South Coastal District which included (a) exemplary aspects were categorized very well, (b) habituation aspects were categorized very well, (c) advice aspects categorized very well, (d) aspects of attention are categorized very well, and (e) aspects of punishment are categorized very well.
