This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of Senior High School in SMAN 10 Medan. The objectives of this study is to develop the English reading materials for students of SMAN 10 Medan which represent the characteristics of their sociocultural environment. The research was conducted at SMAN 10 Medan. The research procedures of this study were Research and Development (R & D) that were done through three phases: 1) evaluation and need analysis, 2) materials design, and 3) materials Validation. The instruments used in this research were a documentary sheet, questionnaire sheet, and interview sheet. The data from evaluation and need analysis were analyzed by using descriptive technique and the data from expert judgment results were analyzed using quantitative data analysis. The result of this study was a coursebook of local content-based reading materials which consist of 3 genres: recount genres, descriptive genres, and narrative genres, in which each genre consists of 2 texts complete with the tasks or exercises. Based on the experts� judgment results, the score was 87.06 which belonged to good category based on Dirgeyasa (2011), since the range is (70-89).

This research aimed to develop appropriate English reading materials for grade eleventh students in SMK Farmasi-YPFSU Medan. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design by adapting Borg and Gall’s research theory (2003) through six steps, such as: (1) Gathering data and information, (2) Analyzing data, (3) Designing new materials, (4) Validating new materials by experts, (5) Revising, and (6) Final product. The data of this research were the existing reading materials and the results of need analysis. The sources of the data were the textbook, students and teacher. The class consisted of 30 grade eleventh students. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaire, interview, and documents. The questionnaire was analyzed as quantitative data and the interview result was analyzed as qualitative data. The questionnaire and interview was done to get the students’ need. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which cointain English for pharmacy program. Thus, developing English reading materials were procedure text. The developed procedure texts were related to the pharmacy program. The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4,03 from English Lecturer and 4,57 from English Teacher. It means the developing reading materials categorized as appropriate or relevant for the grade eleventh students in SMK Farmasi-YPFSU Medan.

This research was aimed to develop suitable English reading materials for the eleventh grade students of Maritime Department of SMK Pelayaran Samudera Indonesia. Due to the result of this research was in the form of a product, this research was categorized as Research and Development (R & D) which adapted Borg and Gall (2003) theory with some modifications. The subjects of this research were the eleventh grade students of Maritime Department of SMK Pelayaran Samudera Indonesia. In conducting this research, the procedures were gathering the data and information, conducting the need analysis, designing the first draft of materials, validating by the expert, revising the materials, and producing the final product. The instruments of collecting the data were the combination of two strategies; interview and questionnaires. The interview was analyzed as qualitative data and the questionnaires were analyzed as quantitative data. These data were the needs of students which covered target needs and learning needs. This study deals with the designing of English Speaking Materials By Using Digital Storytelling Project For The Eleventh Grade Students of Senior High School.  The objectives of this study are: (1) to know the English speaking materials needed by grade eleventh students of senior high school, (2) to design appropriate English speaking materials by using digital storytelling project for the eleventh grade students of senior high school. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Medan. The research procedures of this study is Research and Development (R&D) through three phases : 1) evaluation and need analysis, 2) course design, and 3) materials validation. The instruments used were questionnaire, interview and documentation sheet. The data from evaluation and need analysis were analyzed by using descriptive technique and the data from expert judgement results were using quantitative data analysis. The result of this study is a course book of speaking materials by using digital storytelling project which consist of title, objective, introduction, observing, practices and reflection. The materials consist of three units, they are What Is Your Opinion, How May I Help You? and You Are Loved. The objectives of this study are: (1) to know the existing English speaking materials for the students of hospitality study program, (2) to investigate the relevant English speaking materials for the students of hospitality study program, and (3) to develop appropriate English speaking materials through Task – Based Learning for the students of hospitality study program. This research was conducted at SMK Negeri 3 Tebing Tinggi. The research procedures of this study were Research and Development (R & D) through three phrases: 1) evaluation and need analysis, 2) course design, and 3) materials validation. The instruments used in this research were documentation sheet, interview and questionnaire. The data from evaluation and need analysis were analyzed in the descriptive analysis and the data from expert judgment results were using quantitative data analysis. The result of this study was a course book of speaking materials through task – based learning which consist of title, objective, let’s start, language in use, let’s practice, grammar in focus, and language reference. The task – based learning materials consist of three units, they are welcome to Grand Aston Hotel, talking on the phone, and what do they look like. Based on the experts’ judgement result, the score was 86.5 which belongs to good category based on Dirgeyasa (2011), since the range is (70 – 89).

This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of vocational school, Al-WashliyahTeladan Medan, majoring Software Engineering. The objectives of this study were to: 1) find out language skill and materials are needed by the students of Software Engineering, 2) develop the English materials for the majoring in software engineering students at the vocational high school grade XII. This study was conducted by Educational Research and Development R&D (Borg & Gall, 1989). The data of this research were from existing documents and the result of interview with teacher and student. The results of the research conveyed that the existing reading materials were mostly irrelevant because the title and content of the material was not appropriate and was not required for the students majoring in software engineering. The new English reading materials and syllabus were developed based on the students need related to the workplace. The materials and syllabus were developed from the existing materials from teacher. The developing materials were validated by two experts.

This research was aimed to develop appropriate, interesting and attractive speaking media in teaching descriptive text for seventh grade students of MTsS UMMI Lubuk Pakam. Due to the result in the form of product, this study was categorized as Research and Development (R & D) study which adapted from Borg and Gall (1989) theory with some modifications. The subject of this study was the seventh grade students of MTsS UMMI Lubuk Pakam. In conducting this research, the procedures were gathering the data and information, conducting the need analysis, designing the first draft of media, revising the media, and producing the final product as the meme comic. The instruments of collecting data were the combination of two strategies; interview and questionnaires. The interview result was analyzed as qualitative data and the questionnaires analyzed as quantitative data. These data were needs of students covering target needs and learning needs. This study developed speaking media which only focused on descriptive text taught in the odd semester. This research was primarily conducted to prove that the application of Personal Photograph media could improve the writing skill of the twelfth grade students of SMA Swasta Pelita Nusantara Lawe Sigala-gala in the academic year of 2020/2021 and to describe their responses towards the application of Personal Photograph media in the processes of learning writing skill. Each cycle consisted of four meetings. The quantitative data analysis showed that the students mean score increased continually from 57,31 with 9% passing Minimum Mastery Criteria in pre-test, 71,81 with 36% Minimum Mastery Criteria in formative-test, 83,31 with 82% Minimum Mastery Criteriain post-test. The qualitative data analysis showed that the students’ responses after being taught through the application of Personal Photograph media are very good. The result is most of the students gave good responses to the Personal Photograph media which was used in learning teaching process. It is suggested that teachers use Personal Photograph media as an alternative in writing descriptive texts to the students in Senior High School in order to improve their students’ writing skill, particularly in writing descriptive texts.

Research purpose to: (1) determine the level of need for the critical reading module of exposition text with reflective learning in grade VIII of junior high school; (2) produce a critical reading module for exposition text with reflective learning in grade VIII of junior high school that students can use to learn; (3) test the feasibility of the critical reading module of exposition text with reflective learning in grade VIII of junior high school. This research is a research and development designed with R2D2 (Recursive, Reflective Design and Development Model). The data in this study are qualitative and quantitative data from expert and practitioner tests. Qualitative data are sourced from comments, criticisms, and suggestions from expert and practitioner ratings of the module. Quantitative data is sourced from expert and practitioner assessments of module components. The data analysis technique of this research is qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis. This research and development resulted in the product of the Critical Text Exposition Reading Module with a ReflectiveApproach in Grade VIII of Junior High School which was assessed by experts and practitioners. The results of expert and practitioner assessments of the module indicate that the assessment in the category is very feasible. The critical reading module of exposition text with a reflective approach was declared very feasible to improve critical reading skills as well as providing knowledge about exposition text to students of grade VIII junior high school.

The Objective of this research were: (1) To develop ERM to meet the needs of second grade of dressmaking students at SMKN 10 Medan, (2) To Design ERM which is suitable to the needs of second grade of dressmaking students at SMKN 10 Medan. The subjects were the eleventh year students of dressmaking department at SMKN 10 Medan. The study was a Research and Development (R & D) study which is adapted from Borg and Gall (1983). This research were conducted by six phases, they are, Gathering information and data, Analyzing data, Designing new reading materials, Validating new reading materials, Revising new reading materials, Revised-developing reading materials. The Instruments for collecting the data were 30 questionarries need analysis and interview students, teacher and practitioner. The results from the data were the students need authentic material which related and appropriate to their need in order they can understand English well. The developed materials were validated by two experts, one is a lecture and the other is a teacher. The validator scored 4 creteria. The research findings showed that the developed materials were appropriate to be implemented. The average score of validation was 4,72 (lecture score) and 4,75 (teacher score). Based on the results of the study, conclusion and suggestions are directed to the teachers and institution who are teaching in SMKN 10 Medan generally to create and to develop the materials based on students need.

This research was primarily conducted to prove that the application of Dictogloss technique could enhance the vocabulary mastery of the eleventh grade students of SMA Deli Murni Bandar Baru Bonaventura Class in the Academic Year of 2020/2021 and to describe their responses towards the application of Dictogloss technique in the process of learning vocabulary mastery. This research is Classroom Action Research which was perfomed in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four meetings. The quantitative data analysis showed that the students mean score increased continually from 44,16 in pre-test, 59,17 in formative test, and 70,83 in post-test. And the percentage of the students who passed the mastery minimum criteria from pre-test to post-test is 60,39%. The qualitative data analysis showed that the students responses after being taught by using Dictogloss technique. It can be seen from observation sheets and field notes; they felt more enthusiastic and motivated to learn vocabulary mastery after Dictogloss technique was applied. The questionnaire data also showed that students are agree with the application of using Dictogloss technique and found it effective in teaching vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that English teachers using Dictogloss technique as an alternative media in teaching vocabulary to the students in Senior High School in order to enhance their students’ vocabulary mastery.
