This study investigated social media and the learning of business subjects in some selected secondary schools in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State. The research design for the study was survey of the descriptive type. Five schools were randomly selected from which 100 students were further randomly selected, forming the sample for the study. A self-structured close ended questionnaire containing the bio-data of the respondents and 10 items eliciting responses on the topic was used. The instrument was validated by experts with a reliability coefficient of 0.87. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean and percentage to answer the research questions while inferential statistics of chi-square (X2) and t-test were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant influence of social networking on students’ learning of Business studies and a significant difference in the mean responses of male and female students on the influence of social media. It was concluded that social media has highly contributed towards effective learning of business subjects in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State. Also, gender influences the use of social media. It was recommended among others that there should be adequate provision of social media facilities by the government for all senior schools to cater for the need of the students and enhance effective teaching; students should be allowed to have access to available social media in the schools such as computers and internet so that they will be familiar with the usage in the school system. <em>This paper examined the incidence of truancy among senior secondary school students in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State and suggests ways counselling can be used to curb the problem. Three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study and the design was Ex-post Facto. The sample size was 119 Senior Secondary II students randomly selected from 5 out of the 22 public secondary schools in the local government area. An instrument titled “Incidence of Truancy among Secondary School Students” was used to collect data from the respondents. It had face and content validity through expert judgement and the reliability coefficient was 0.73. The data obtained was analyzed with the Z-test statistics. The results indicated that there is no significant difference between male and female students; urban and rural students and students from high and low socio-economic status homes in their indulgence in truancy. It was recommended that Form Masters/Mistresses should be more objective in taking class attendance and refer truants to guidance counsellors.</em>

The purpose of this study is to investigate the predictive effects of mathematics skills on students’ performance in chemistry. The study adopted the pre-test and post-test control group quasi-experimental design. A sample of 136 students were randomly selected from two Senior Secondary Schools (SSS2) in Akoko - South Local Government Area of Ondo State. One research question and one null hypothesis were used for the study. A Chemistry Achievement Test (CAT) which involved the use of mathematics skills was used and administered. The data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation, percentage mean, t-Test, and One way ANOVA statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The result revealed that significant difference existed between the scores of students exposed to experimental group and that of their counterpart in the control group. One of the recommendations is that the use of collaborative teaching among the mathematics and chemistry teachers in secondary schools should be emphasised by the curriculum planners and the government. This will reduce the under achievement problem in chemistry among the secondary school students.

This study investigated the effect of self-efficacy on self-employment intentions of recent graduates. Using the descriptive survey research design, the study population includes National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Ojo Local Government area of Lagos state. A sample of 130 was selected using the purposive sampling technique. The formulated hypotheses were tested using the simple linear regression and the independent sample t-test. The results showed that there was a statistically significant influence of self-efficacy on self-employment intention of Corps members of Ojo local government, Lagos state. A significant regression coefficient was found F (1.128)=29.72, p<.05), with R2 of .19. This presupposes that19.0% of the variance in self-employment intentions is as a result of the self-efficacy of recent graduates. Also, a statistically significant difference in the self-employment intentions were found between male and female corps members (tcal(128) = 2.11 is greater than ttab=1.98, p < .05). The study therefore recommended, amongst others, that institutions and the government should educate and devise a means by which they can increase the level of graduates and students’ self-efficacy which in turn will help shape their intention towards shaping career options after graduation. Similarly, effective entrepreneurship education and training for students and graduates to enhance their efficacy in performing specific tasks and roles of an entrepreneur will go a long way in boosting their self-employment intention and also aids them towards post graduate job creation ability rather than job seekers

The study examined motivation and regular salary as determinants of agricultural science teachers’ commitment in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. Survey and correlational research designs were adopted. A sample size of 142 subjects was used in this study. This comprised of 96 Agricultural Science teachers in both junior and senior secondary schools in Port Harcourt, 12 Principals, 24 Vice Principals in both junior and senior secondary schools in Port Harcourt, and 10 Supervisors in Port Harcourt. The Teachers’ Motivation Inventory (TMI), Teachers’ Regular Salary Scale (TRESS), and Agricultural Science Teachers’ Commitment Questionnaire (ASTCQ) instruments were used. The instruments were validated by experts in Education and Agricultural Science. The reliability of the instruments was established using the Cronbach Alpha method to obtain indices of 951, .902, and .844 for the TMI, TRESS and ASTCQ instruments, respectively. Data obtained from the 129 copies of the TMI, TRESS, and ASTCQ instruments was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The result revealed that motivation and regular payment of salary jointly contributes to Agricultural Science teachers’ commitment in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State. Furthermore, government ensuring the teachers’ regular promotion, alongside providing teachers’ with incentives like bonuses, class attendance and practical allowances etc., were among the proffered recommendations. This was targeted at increasing Agricultural Science teachers’ level of commitment in secondary schools.

This research titled Incidence of Pulmonary Mucormycosis among Poultry Farmers in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State was aimed at determining the number of Poultry Farmers who are infected with pulmonary mucormycosis. Sputum from 100 Poultr y Farmers was investigated by cultivation on Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar containing antibiotics and examined for fungi. Fungal identification was carried out by direct microscopy and colony morphology using the Papanicolau stain, standard mycological stains and reagents. Consent was obtained from the participants and questionnaires were used to obtain their Bio - data. Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version - 25 software was used for Chi - Square and t - test analyses of the research findings. A total of 6 (6.0%) persons were infected with Mucor, other fungi were isolated in 14 (28%) of the farmers. Abnormal squamous epithelial cells were seen in 24 (48%) and inflammatory cells in 11 (22%) of farmers. Mucor was not isolated from the sputum of Pers ons with mean duration in years of poultry farming activities of 2.5 years and 6.5 years while those with 18.5 and 22.5 years had 2 (%) rate of infection each. Infection with mucor in relation to years of poultry farming was statistically significant,  2 (5) = 16.31, p ≤ 0.05. There was however no significant difference in abnormal substances found in the sputum of males (M = 4.61, SD = 2.05) and the sputum obtained from females (M = 4.33, SD = 1.83); t (109) = 0.742, p = 0.460. There is need for farmers t o regularly use face mask to avoid inhalation of dust. Environmental sanitation should be regularly carried out so as to reduce wastes which serve as breeding ground for fungi. There is also the need for Farmers to also engage in routine medical checkups.

The study critically examined the influence self-esteem on students’ academic performance in physics in senior secondary schools in Port-Harcourt Local Government Area. The purpose of the study was to examine the influence of self-esteem on the academic performance of students with respect to gender. Three research questions and one hypothesis were posed to guide the study to find out the relationship between students’ self-esteem and their academic achievement. The instruments used for the study include a standardized questionnaire developed by Rosenberg (1965), titled “Rosenberg self esteem scale”, and Physics Achievement Test (PAT) developed by the researcher. This test comprised 50 multiple choice questions which cover subjects from SSS1 to SSS3. The PAT was subjected to a validation process and the reliability coefficient obtained was 0.88 through Kuder-Richardson 21. The findings of the study showed that 68 percent of the respondents have low self-esteem while 32 percent are high self-esteemed students. The mean difference (10.04) showed that students with low self-esteem performed poorly compared to students with high self-esteem. The hypothesis revealed that there is a strong positive relationship between the two variables under study, that is students’ self-esteem and their academic performance in physics. The study recommended that physics teachers should recognize the level of each of the students’ self-esteem. Teachers should also allocate time to raise the level of students’ self confidence before teaching difficult topics in Physics.

The study examined the influence of parent’s socio-economic status on the academic performance of students in selected public secondary schools in Ado Local government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study used stratified sampling techniques to select two hundred and five (205) students from five (5) public schools. Also, data on students’ academic performance was obtained from students results in four core subjects. Data obtained was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The study revealed that parents attitudes, parents socio-economic status, insufficient parental incomes, and lack of funding by the government are factors influencing students’ academic performance. Based on these findings, certain recommendations are made towards improving students’ academic performance, prominent of these include proper funding of education by government, sensitisation of parents towards their children education, increase in parental salaries in line with the current economic situation as well as the provision of adequate books and facilities in schools to breach the gap between the rich and the poor and the support of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) to eradicate poverty.

This paper examined the use of virtual learning on the academic performance of JS 1 Integrated Science Students in Secondary Schools in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. In discussing this, it examined the concept of virtual learning instruction, Synchronous and Asynchronous e-learning as compared to face-to-face traditional classroom learning and the advantages and disadvantages of virtual learning. Quasi experimental design was adopted. Population for the study comprised all JS 1 students in public secondary schools in Port Harcourt Local Government Area. Sample size of 200 students were selected from 2,910 JS 1 students in all the public secondary schools in Port Harcourt Local Government Area using the multi-stage sampling technique. Instrument for data collection was an objective Integrated Science performance test (OIPT). Two hypotheses were formulated and tested using Factorial Analysis of Variance (ANCOVA). Result of the analysis showed that there is no significant difference in student’s academic performance when virtual learning and expository methods are used in teaching Integrated Science in Junior Secondary class (f1.195 = 1.606, p > .05) and that there is no significant difference between the academic performance of female and male students when virtual learning and expository methods are used in teaching Integrated Science in JS 1 (F1, 195 = 717, p > .05). It was therefore recommended that: Teachers should try to apply the virtual learning instruction in the teaching of Integrated Science as this was found to impact on the students achievement positively and that male and female students should be equally engaged in the learning of Integrated Science where VLS is incorp+orated to eliminate the gender bias in sciences.

The aim of this study is to assess the level of Performance evaluation feedback in governmental secondary schools in Jos North Local Government Area. However, both primary and secondary sources of data collection were employed. The primary sources of data were obtained through administering 210 structured questionnaires to teachers in all 21 governmental secondary schools in Jos North Local Government Area (Nigeria). While the secondary sources of data were obtained from text books, journals and internet sources. The three hypotheses study were tested using Chi-square at 0.5% significance level. On the whole, alternative hypotheses of the study were upheld which states that teachers in governmental secondary schools in Jos North Local Government Area are satisfied with the performance evaluation feedback they got. Secondly, that teachers in governmental secondary schools in Jos North Local Government Area get feedback from performance evaluation and that there are diverse opinions on when performance evaluation should be conducted among teachers in governmental secondary schools in Jos North Local Government Area.
