The article presents the results of studies of carcasses of domestic and wild ducks for the purpose of detection of sarcocystosis. The commodity, organoleptic, physico-chemical, microbiological indicators of the meat of sick and healthy domestic and wild ducks were determined. Researches were carried out in spring and autumn in the farms of six regions of Central Russia, on the territory of which there were large reservoirs (ponds, lakes or swamps). The intensity of the destruction of wild ducks by sarcocystosis was high, of domestic ducks was medium. Sarcocystis one wild duck found in large quantity in the chest muscles and lower in the muscles of the neck, the other two (domestic and wild) affected ducks Sarcocystis was discovered in many skeleton, which muscles. In chest muscles of one wild duck sarcocystis has revealed in large quantity and lower in the muscles of the neck, sarcocystis was discovered in many muscles of skeleton of the other two (domestic and wild) affected ducks. The size of the sarcocystosis was different, but no more than the millet grain. In our opinion, in cases of intense muscle lesions with sarcocistosis, carcasses and poultry organs should be sent for disposal or fed to animals after stripping and boiling for at least 1 hour. At weak injury and the absence of dystrophic processes in the muscles of the carcass, their internal organs are cleaned and sent to the canning industry. It is not allowed to feed infected sarcocistosis raw bird meat to dogs, cats and other carnivores.

The partial substitution of margarine with mature avocado pear pulp in the production of cookies was investigated. Five cookie samples were produced with avocado pear pulp and margarine blends in the ratios 80:20%, 70:30%, 60:40%, 50:50%, and 100% margarine serve as the control, labeled as B, C, D and E and A, respectively while the other ingredients used remain constant. The physico-chemical (proximate compositions, free fatty acids (FFA), iodine value, and peroxide value) and sensory qualities of the cookies were evaluated using standard methods. The results show ranged in moisture (11.13 to 14.60%), crude protein (6.93 to 7.83%), crude fat (16.00 to 18.03%), ash (1.40 to 2.09%), crude fiber (0.29 to 0.62%), carbohydrate (59.70 to 62.79%), FFA (0.35 to 1.01 mg KOH/g), iodine value (75.63 to 81.17 g I2/100 g) and peroxide value (2.96 to 5.27 meq/kg). The partial substitution of margarine with avocado pear pulp produced nutritious cookies with desirable organoleptic qualities. Also, the results demonstrated that cookies had acceptability up to a 30% level of substitution with avocado pear pulp. The findings indicated the feasibility of avocado pear pulp in fat-reduced cookies preparation, this will reduce the pressure in using only margarine in cookies making and diversify the use of avocado pear.

ABSTRACT Four canine coronavirus type II (CCoV-II) strains were identified in the guts and internal organs of pups which had died of acute gastroenteritis. The CCoV-II strains were strictly related to porcine transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) in the N-terminal domain of the spike protein, whereas in the other parts of the genome, a higher genetic relatedness to recent CCoV-II isolates was observed. Experimental infection of dogs with a TGEV-like isolate induced mild gastroenteritis without any systemic involvement. By virus neutralization tests, antigenic differences between reference and TGEV-like CCoVs were found. Our data support the potential recombinant origin of the TGEV-like CCoVs.

Tasting minerality in wine is highly fashionable, but it is unclear what this involves. The present review outlines published work concerning how minerality in wine is perceived and conceptualised by wine professionals and consumers. Studies investigating physico-chemical sources of perceived minerality in wine are reviewed also. Unusually, for a wine sensory descriptor, the term frequently is taken to imply a genesis: the sensation is the taste of minerals in the wine that were transported through the vine from the vineyard rocks and soils. Recent studies exploring tasters’ definitions of minerality in wine support this notion. However, there are reasons why this cannot be. First, minerals in wine are nutrient elements that are related distantly only to vineyard geological minerals. Second, mineral nutrients in wine normally have minuscule concentrations and generally lack flavour. Results of reviewed studies overall demonstrate marked variability in both wine professionals’ and wine consumers’ definitions and sensory-based judgments of minerality in wine, although there is some consensus in terms of the other wine attributes that associate with the term mineral. The main wine composition predictors of perceived minerality involve a complex combination of organic compounds dependent on grape ripeness and/or derived from wine fermentations and redox status.

The question of the relation between Uterine Disease and Insanity is one which, though at different times it has attracted much attention, is yet very far from being thoroughly elucidated. On the one hand the subject is mixed up with so-called “Hysterical Insanity,” and on the other with “Amenorrhœal Insanity,” concerning the former of which it may be said that but little evidence has been advanced to prove its dependence upon distinct physical disease in the internal organs of reproduction; and, as regards the latter, it needs but little observation in an asylum to show that in the majority of cases in which Amenorrhœa is associated with insanity, the suppression of the menses is merely a symptom, and in no sense the cause of the disease.

In recent times, ecohydrology and hydroecology are making a mark on theenvironmental agenda, as evidenced by the proliferation of these terms in theacademic literature. There is an increasing recognition that groundwater is essentialto many ecological communities. Surface ecological processes (such asevapotranspiration) significantly impact hydrological responses and relatedhydrochemical function. Thus, the relation of groundwater hydrology to patternsand processes in ecology is a ‘two-way street’ where understanding the feedback ofone to the other serves as a powerful lens through which to evaluate and explainthe functioning of natural ecosystems. Influxes of groundwater to lakes, rivers, andwetlands can change whole-system physico-chemical properties such astemperature and salinity, while also providing more subtle influences onmicroenvironments and their ecological processes. The recognition of thesignificance and power of this tandem has not always been followed with effectiveinterdisciplinary science. The ecological, hydrological, and physico-chemical linksbetween groundwater, surface water and associated ecosystems are seldom fullyunderstood even though true characterization and wise management will require amultidisciplinary approach. This means biologists need to understand theimportance of magnitude and timing of groundwater flows for their system, whichrequires the skills of hydrogeologists to achieve. Hydrogeologists, in turn, mustunderstand how and why groundwater influences ecological processes so that theirexpertise is brought to bear at a scale commensurate to the ecological researchquestion. In this paper therefore, an overview of general concepts, research effortsand future perspectives are presented. More importantly, the paper asserts that it isnot simply the integration of hydrology and ecology that will determine the futureprospects for ecohydrology/hydroecology, but the way in which this integrativescience is conducted.

This study was undertaken to prepare Heat Killed Candida albicans Antigen (HK-CA) and to investigate it's effect on elicitation of Delayed-type Hypersensitivity (DTH) and protection from virulent Candida challenged in mice, and described the major effect of Nocardia on the immunogenicity of this Ag.Four groups of 6 males Swiss mice for each group were immunized intraperitonialy(I.p)for 10 days at 5 doses(one day intervals) with 1x108 HK-CA plus Nocardia cell sap as adjuvant(CFA),the second group immunized with HK-CA plus Freund incomplete adjuvant, the third group immunized with HK-CA only and the fourth group treated with normal saline. Another group of 6 animals was immunized intranasally(I.n)with HK-CA only with the same doses as previously. Two weeks following the last application of Ag,50% of animals(3 for each group) were challenged intravenously(I.v)with 106 viable C.albicans to assess the protection rate.and the other 50% of mice were used to evaluate the development of DTH response in each immunization methods.Greatly percentage survival was observed when mice immunized with HK-CA plus CFA,which challenged with 106 live C. albicans in comparison with other groups. And also all animals of the 1st group developed highly significant DTH response which was supporyed by marked infiltration and aggregation of lymphocyte in some internal organs that indicate it's intensive involvement in immune response, while in the other groups, mononuclear cells infiltration were present with moderate to less intensive. Clearly,HK-CA in conjunction with Nocardia cell sap as adjuvant afforded significant levels of protection,Furthermore, the noval approach of I.n immunization could used for the development of an effective vaccine
