The incorporation of a ceramic particles like SiC, Al2O3, and TiO2 into aluminum matrices results in Aluminum composite better mechanical and physical properties that make them attractive for various applications such as Aircraft, Helicopter, High-speed automobile, and Submarine. In this study, the erosion properties of the aluminum composite were studied in dry conditions using sand blast-erosion test rig. Impact velocity, standoff distance, particle size, particulate (wt. %), and impingement angle were preferred as control factors. Taguchi method, Grey relational and regression analysis were considered for optimizing the erosion process parameters. L27 orthogonal array was determined for the experimental trials. The most significant factors in the process were identified. Nonlinear regression model has been developed for Grey Relational Grade in relation to the different erosion parameters. An optimization schema is established based on a correlation between analytic and experimental results.

The present research work involves investigating the cylindrical grinding process parameters of Al/SiC metal matrix composites during machining. The effect of grinding process parameters on grinding force, surface roughness and grinding temperature were investigated experimentally using L27 orthogonal array. Grinding process was carried out using different combination of wheel velocity, workpiece velocity, feed rate and depth of cut. The significant grinding process parameters have been determined by using ANOVA. The grey grades identify the optimum level grinding process parameters. From the grey relational grade, low wheel velocity, medium workpiece velocity, medium feed rate and medium depth of cut gives the best results.

This paper presents a new approach for the optimization of the high speed machining (HSM) process with multiple performance characteristics based on the orthogonal array with the grey relational analysis has been studied. Optimal machining parameters can then be determined by the grey relational grade as the performance index. In this study, the machining parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and axial depth of cut are optimized under the multiple performance characteristics including, tool life, surface roughness, and material removal rate(MMR). As shown experimental results, machining performance in the HSM process can be improved effectively through this approach.

This paper investigates the influence of the process parameters like machining voltage, electrolyte concentration, frequency on the over cut and Material Removal Rate (MRR) on drilling of Al- 10% TiC Metal Matrix composites using Electrochemical Micro Machining (EMM) through taguchi methodology and grey relational analysis. Based on the analysis, optimum levels of parameters were determined and the same to validate through the confirmation test. Experimental results are in close agreement with the developed model. The confirmation results reveal that, there is considerable improvement in Material Removal Rate, Overcut. Grey relational grade are improved by 89.5 %, 57.9% and 95.16 % respectively. It is observed that the machining performance can be effectively improved with respect to initial parametric setting.

Regarding analysis of load characteristics of a power grid, there are multiple factors that influence the variation of load characteristics. Among these factors, the influence of different ones on the change of load characteristic is somewhat different, thus the degree of influence of various factors needs to be quantified to distinguish the main and minor factors of load characteristics. Based on this, the grey relational analysis in the grey system theory is employed as the basis of mathematical model in this paper. Firstly, the main factors affecting the load characteristics of a power grid are analysed. Then, the principle of quantitative analysis of the influencing factors by using grey relational grade is introduced. Lastly, the load of Guangzhou power grid is selected as the research object, thereby the main factor of temperature affecting the load characteristics is quantitatively analysed, such that the correlation between temperature and load is established. In this paper, by investigating the influencing factors and the degree of influence of load characteristics, the law of load characteristics changes can be effectively revealed, which is of great significance for power system planning and dispatching operation.

PurposeMetal matrix composites (MMC) has been a section which gives an overview of composite materials and owing to those exceptional physical and mechanical properties, particulate-reinforced aluminum MMCs have gained increasing interest in particular engineering applications. Owing to the toughness and abrasive quality of reinforcement components such as silicon carbide (SiC) and titanium carbide (TiC), such materials are categorized as difficult materials for machining. The work aims to develop the model for evaluating the machinability of the materials via the response surface technique by machining three distinct types of hybrid MMCs.Design/methodology/approachThe combined effects of three machining parameters, namely “cutting speed” (s), “feed rate” (f) and “depth of cut” (d), together with three separate composite materials, were evaluated with the help of three performance characteristics, i.e. material removal rate (MRR), cutting force (CF) and surface roughness (SR). Response surface methodology and analysis of variance (ANOVA) both were initially used for analyzing the machining parameters results.FindingsThe contours were developed to observe the combined process parameters along with their correlations. The process variables were concurrently configured using grey relational analysis (GRA) and the composite desirability methodology. Both the GRA and composite desirability approach obtained similar results.Practical implicationsThe results obtained in the present paper will be helpful for decision-makers in manufacturing industries, who work on metal cutting area especially composites, to select the suitable solution by implementing the Grey Taguchi and modeling techniques.Originality/valueThe originality of this research is to identify the suitability of process parameters combination based on the obtained research results. The optimization of machining parameters in turning of hybrid metal matrix composites is carried out with two different methods such as Grey Taguchi and composite desirability approach.

In this paper, a grey relational analysis method based on Taguchi is proposed to improve the multi-performance characteristics of VMC shoulder milling process parameters in the processing of AA6063 T6. Taking into account four process parameters such as coolant, depth of cut, speed and feed, there are three level of each process parameter in addition to two levels of coolant. 18 experiments were used by L18 orthogonal array using the taguchi method. Multi-performance features like surface roughness and material removal rate are used. Grey Relational Analysis method is used to obtain the Grey Relational Grade, and the multiperformance characteristics of the process are pointed out. Then, the Taguchi response table method and ANOVA are used to analysis data. In order to ensure the validity of the test results, a confirmation test was conducted. The study also shows that this method can effectively improve the multi-function characteristics of shoulder milling process. In his work microstructure and mechanical properties of AA6063 T6before and after shoulder milling have been investigated.

The Grey-Taguchi method was adopted in this study to optimize the injection molding parameters for the MIM green compacts with multiple quality performance. A Grey relational grade obtained from the Grey relational analysis is used as the quality performance in the Taguchi method. Then, the optimum injection molding parameters are determined using the parameter design proposed by the Taguchi method. The result concluded that the mold temperature (D) is very significant, by the fact that the ANOVA shows its contribution to excellent surface appearance as well as strong and dense green compacts is 38.82%.
