This article analyses the use of social networks as a public relations strategy within the framework of a crisis communication strategy deployed following a terrorist attack. More specifically, the Twitter account of the Police of Catalonia (@mossos) is analysed in view of the attacks that took place in Barcelona and Cambrils in August 2017. Methodologically, content analysis of the Catalan police’s Twitter account is performed through the collection and subsequent analysis of messages issued in the 10-day period following the first attack. Additionally, and as a result of this research, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight experts in crisis communication, with the aim of determining, within the framework of this case study, the functions and uses of social networks in the context of crises caused by terrorist attacks. The results show how, in a context of crisis communication, the messages posted by the Mossos d’Esquadra’s Twitter account transcend mere service information to become an asset of public relations, engagement and constant interaction and mutual collaboration and dialogue between the Catalan police and the population that it administers. As a whole, this has an impact on the improvement of the image and reputation of the Catalan police among its fellow citizens.

Abstract: Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of infected females of mosquitoes of the genus Aedes aegypti that occurs in tropical and subtropical climates throughout the planet, especially during the rainy season. The northeast of Argentina is the area most affected by cases of dengue, given a combination of high temperatures and humidity. The province of Corrientes, also, due to its geographical situation, has a high level of vulnerability to the presence of the virus-carrying mosquito. This article shows the results of content analysis of the official Twitter account @saludcorrientes, from January 1 to April 30, 2016 in regards to the phenomenon. The study takes into account that, in the digital era, social networks are a key instrument to inform the population about any health emergency. The article deals with the study of the concept REFUGEE/FLÜCHTLING in the discourse of the new media of Germany in 2015 – the year which was characterized by the highest level of asylum seekers in the country. Based on the results of the content analysis, the positional narratives and thematic groups of lexical markers representing the official position and the position of the civil society (in the social media content) have been defined. The discourse-analysis proved that in the German infosphere there is a “battle of narratives” between the official media which put into action a systemic government policy of friendly treatment of refugees – «Willkommenskultur», and social networks which also manifest an unfavourable attitude towards asylum seekers – from critical to totally negative. It has been established that the concept REFUGEE/FLÜCHTLING has a discourse-forming function in both official and unofficial media in Germany where it has negative connotations, thereby revealing the «battle of narratives» and the «battle of discourses». It has been concluded that there is a single government communication strategy in the issue of refugees and a corresponding system of organization of official new media communications which broadcast the government’s position with a focus on conceptual worldviews of different target audiences of the country. The study was carried out using the Big Data technology, which contributed to obtaining of valid results.

This research applies a social network perspective to the issue of cyber aggression, or cyberbullying, on the social media platform Twitter. Cyber aggression is particularly problematic because of its potential for anonymity, and the ease with which so many others can join the harassment of victims. Utilizing a comparative case study methodology, the authors examined thousands of Tweets to explore the use of denigrating slurs and insults contained in public tweets that target an individual's gender, race, or sexual orientation. Findings indicate cyber aggression on Twitter to be extensive and often extremely offensive, with the potential for serious, deleterious consequences for its victims. The study examined a sample of 84 aggressive networks on Twitter and visualize several social networks of communication patterns that emanate from an initial, aggressive tweet. The authors identify six social roles that users can assume in the network, noting differences in these roles by demographic category. Serious ethical concerns pertain to this technological, social problem.

As online learning opportunities continue to grow it is important to continually consider instructor practices. Using case study methodology this study conceptualizes instructor presence, the intersection of social and teaching presence as defined within the Community of Inquiry literature, and is based in the implementation phase of online courses which is important to note since instructors often teach courses they did not design or develop. The investigation of the instructor presence behaviors of 12 online instructors and the emerging profiles of instructor presence provide a gateway to strategies for online instructors and offer a window into the ways instructional presence elements work together while providing insights into how to make the best use of online instructor time. In practical terms, the profiling method provides a useful way for practitioners to improve their own experiences.
