Students' lack of Arabic language skills might be caused by some factors, such as the models and strategies used by teachers, the students’ excitement in learning and their character. This study aimed to research on the epistemology of Arabic learning based on ICT. It was designed to find the Arabic learning model based on ICT. It assumed that integrating various fields of study with ICT, including Arabic language learning, is essential to be developed in this digital era. However, there are obstacles experienced by several schools, especially the teachers, they do not have a specific format for using ICT to integrate both scientific subjects. Descriptive qualitative research was used in this research. The data collection was done through observation, interviewing the teachers and one hundred X grade students, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using the Miles and Huberman technique. The results showed that the design of the ICT-based in Arabic learning model development is “al-hasub al-ittishalî”, this is an innovative Arabic learning model based on ICT. In this model, the materials and other learning tools are designed in a computer program. As stated by E. L. Criswell, computers provide opportunities for students to participate and respond to the student’s activities actively. This model contributes in making the teaching and learning process more effective. With this model, the teacher is expectedly able to become a learning motivator and a mediator to explain some materials to the students. Besides, the use of ICT is a must considering the digital era.

This research aims to describe the use of code switching in English language learning, in terms of the form of code switching, the kind of code switching, the aim of code switching, the function of code switching and the causal factors of code switching. This study belongs to qualitative research. The subjects of this research were the English teacher and students. Meanwhile, the data were utterances of English teacher and students that contained code switching. The data were collected through observation, recording, note-taking and interview. Classroom activities, particularly in the teaching of English language, were recorded on video tapes and field notes. The data analysis revealed several findings. First, both teacher and students used word form of code switching, phrase form of code switching and sentence form of code switching when they were in the classroom. Second, the English teacher and the student used intern and extern code switching, temporary code switching, situational and metaphorical code switching. Third, the aim of using code switching done by the teacher and students were compensating for language limitation, to explain the material and strategy in teaching learning process. Fourth, the functions of code switching for teachers and student were as clarification, emphasis, repetition, translation, checking for understanding, tool for communication, developing vocabulary and tolerance. Fifth, the factors that caused code switching were to fulfil a need, to express or declare solidarity, to respect the listener and to be more informative.

Digitization and the globalization of English have made it possible to incorporate different forms of digital technology into the infrastructure of English language programs. However, there are no clear criteria in the existing literature to identify and evaluate appropriate language-learning technology tools. To fill the gap, this project proposed empirically supported guidelines in a rubric called the ULTIA Rubric to facilitate and accelerate the process of identifying and evaluating technology-supported language-learning tools. The ULTIA Rubric has its basis in the major components of the five concepts of universal design for learning (UDL), learning science (LS), technology acceptance model (TAM), intelligent tutoring system (ITS), and automatic speech recognition (ASR). The rubric can function as a practical solution for program administrators, instructors, and English language learners (ELLs) who are seeking a reliable roadmap to evaluate language-learning software.

Learning strategies are ways employed by learners to enhance their learning. An active use of language learning strategies helps learners in control of their own learning by developing language skills, increasing confidence, and motivation in learning process. This study aims to investigate the dominant language learning strategies used by science students. It focused on listening, speaking, reading, and writing strategies that was studied using descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were 56 eleventh-grade science students from the senior high boarding school of Darul Ikhsan. The questionnaire developed by Rubin and Thompson (1994) was distributed and the data was analyzed by looking at the highest frequency of students’ choice. The results indicated that the students employed cognitive strategies, metacognitive strategies, affective strategies, compensation strategies, and social strategies. However, the students used dominantly cognitive learning strategies across the four language skills. The findings recommended that students should be trained to use learning strategies properly. In addition, English teachers should consider the learners’ strategies by asking their intentions and use appropriate teaching methods.

Teaching and technology pedagogy should be mastered by a teacher in this digital era. It is an inevitable fact that teachers should realize. To be in line with technology development, teachers are expected to bring any technology-based applications to the classroom.  Many education institutions from Kindergarten to Higher Education around the world equip their teachers with technology-based training. In particular, Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) has been mushrooming in English Language Teaching trends. To comply with this demand, Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework has been developed by Koehler & Mishra (2006) to equip student teachers in English Department. Therefore, Technology and Curriculum Design course is designed to tailor Pre-Service English Teachers how to integrate technology in EFL curriculum design. By having blended learning activities, teaching and learning activities are conducted to explore technology applications to design an EFL curriculum. Any class projects are technology-based assignments such as infographic, poster, mind map, questionnaire, presentation, etc. using CANVA, Google applications, presentation applications, lesson plan application (LessonWRITER), quiz application (Quizlet), and interactive book applications (AnyFlip, Flipping Book, FlipSnack), etc.                Keywords: curriculum, EFL, technology

Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) or in another word collaborating computer with the classroom component to enhance language learning has a long history of pedagogical development since 1950 until nowadays which started with the simple program into microcomputers. It covers all learning processes using computers which advance the language skills of the learners. In the language courses, CALL is implemented by using several applications but this essay will solely mention 8 applications out of many. The study cases prove that those implementations offer several great values toward academic life. However, in order to achieve successful implementation, the pre-conditions or requirements of the CALL implementation must be fulfilled. In Indonesia, the advent of some hindrances such as cost, teacher trainings are the main issues to fulfil those requirements. Alternatively, several recommendations are proposed to refute the problems such as schools and local government cooperation, customisation learning technology and peer school teaching. Keywords:  CALL; Language Learning; Elementary and High Schools

The learning model is included in the civilization process of the School. It is as a culture aiming at academic achievement, cultivates attitudes, knowledge and skills of students. The habituation learning model of the pesantren style (Islamic Boarding school) applied by MAS (Islamic Senior High School) Jeumala Amal has successfully increase the school's achievements. Based on the aforementioned data, the researcher needs to do more in-depth research in obtaining detailed information reagarding the model applied so that it is applicable for other schools. This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the English learning model at MAS Jeumala Amal which applies a qualitative ethnographic method. The data obtained were observation, interviews, field notes and document analysis. The Study revealed that the form of English language learning is designed through a careful planning which integrates two proficiencies, namely functional and communication skills; the former are taught through classroom activities while the latter are trained more in pesantren programs. The student learning models in MAS Jeumala Amal adheres to a behavioristic pattern which emphasizes habituation in language skills through  an army method pattern that restrain students based on reward and punishment pattern.
