The new technologies in sport can help to reproduce a real game context. Therefore, we aim to characterize the experience of volleyball coaches immerged in a 3D volleyball game to see if the device could be a credible tool in a coaching training program. Seventeen volleyball coaches were immerged into three sequences of a 3D volleyball game with Oculus Rift headset before completing a perceptions’ questionnaire composed by 33 items concerning users’ experience factors and 3 open-ended questions. The results show positive scores for the immersion (M = 6.49, SD = 2.84), positive emotions (M = 5.24, SD = 2.69), judgment (M = 7.70, SD = 1.82) and flow (M = 5.83, SD = 2.75) even if this last result has to be taken carefully. The answers to the open-ended questions confirm those data. Despite some limitations, the link between the results and some important notions of the behaviour change as the intrinsic motivation, the self-determination theory and the learning outcomes seems to emphasize the benefits of an implementation of the device into a coaching training program. Nevertheless, this use has to be limited to the training of observations of the environment rather than the intervention training because of the lack of control on the environment and interaction allows by the 3D device.

The working group of the research consists of 297 referees who attended the 2018 Referee-Trainer Visa Seminars of the Gymnastics Federation held in Antalya between 20-23 December 2018. Leisure Attitude Scale: LAS, developed by Ragheb and Beard in 1982 and adapted into Turkish by Akgül and Gürbüz, was used in the study. The data obtained in the study, frequency,% distribution, mean and standard deviation (Std. Deviation) were measured, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests were used in normality analysis, Kruskal Wallis-H, Mann Whitney U, Chi-square and Fisher Exact tests were used in comparison of the groups. In this study, which examines the attitudes of gymnastics trainers towards leisure activities; It was examined whether there was a difference in terms of gender, age and coaching level and a significant difference was found according to the variables of age and coaching level (P <0.05). There is a significant difference in the cognitive dimension from the sub-dimensions of attitude towards leisure activities according to age. There is a significant difference in affective dimension from the sub-dimensions of attitude towards leisure activities according to the category of coaching level (P <0.05). In addition, gymnastics trainers' attitudes towards leisure activities did not differ according to gender (P> 0.05). In coaching training seminars, various departments should be organized in order to make efficient use of leisure time, it is recommended to support concepts such as leisure attitude and related life quality, leisure time satisfaction, leisure physical activity restrictions, and coping with leisure time obstacles by carrying out different studies. Community sports play an important role in maintaining sporting participation across all ages, from childhood to adulthood. Maintaining participation for females, however, can be a challenge. Injuries can negatively impact sporting participation, both in the short and long term. Thus, reducing the risk of injuries in community sports is essential. While there are developed injury prevention programs available, the uptake of such programs in community sports can be limited. Here, we outline how a female community sport in Ireland, namely, the Camogie Association, has developed and implemented an evidence-based strategy to improve the uptake of an injury prevention program nationally across all ages of their membership. We use the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation and Maintenance) sports setting matrix as a guiding tool for evaluating this strategy. Varying settings and levels were targeted in this six-step implementation sequence, including the national sporting organisation, regional sporting organisations, alongside the individual coaches and players. The main outcomes of the strategy were that the Camogie Association formally adopted the developed injury prevention program (the Camogie Injury Prevention Program) and the adapted age appropriate programs from 8 years of age and upward. The Camogie Association also embedded this program within their coaching training course. The developed education workshop successfully improved coaches’ attitudes and perceived ability to implement the Camogie Injury Prevention Program. The majority (72.5%) of coaches, 4 weeks after conducting the workshop, had implemented the program, and 95% felt the program could be maintained over multiple seasons. This program may provide guidance to similar national or regional sporting bodies that want to embed injury prevention programs within their respective governing body and maximise the implementation of an injury prevention program by their coaches and players.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate how university students' basic psychological needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness) determine whether coaching or training is more supportive for them.Design/methodology/approachReal-life coaching (N1 = 110) and training (N2 = 176) processes with students as clients were examined, measuring the students' needs before the coaching/training, their need fulfilment after the coaching/training and their satisfaction and goal attainment/intrinsic motivation after the coaching/training.FindingsThe results show that university students with a higher autonomy need had this need fulfilled to a greater extent through coaching, while university students with a higher competence need had this need fulfilled to a greater extent through training.Research limitations/implicationsThe research focused on university students and was conducted at German-speaking universities, so it is unclear to what extent the findings are transferable to other contexts. In addition, future research is needed to further compare other personal development tools, such as mentoring or consulting.Practical implicationsThe results depict the relevance of the most appropriate personal development tool (coaching or training) depending on students' needs. Furthermore, coaches should be autonomy-supportive, while trainers should be competence-supportive.Originality/valueSupporting students with the most appropriate personal development tool is essential for the effectiveness of this tool. Thus, the personal development tool used should reflect students' needs: students with a high autonomy need should receive coaching, while students with a high competence need should receive training.
