This paper describes the study case of the conservation of a new media artwork, Cannula, by Daniel Canogar (2016). This artwork combines and distorts videos downloaded from YouTube in order to create an oil-like live painting. Main new media conservation strategies are first introduced and discussed. Following, “re-creation” is presented as the best option to deal with the conservation of the elements that compose the artwork, such as its hardware –display, computer- and its software –custom made applications that combine and distort videos-. This paper focuses on a key element to the artwork that cannot be conserved by any of the exposed means: the Internet. YouTube is used to provide the videos to be used. If the service is not reachable –the connection is lost or YouTube is no longer available- the artwork will cease to exist as the artists conceived it. Storing in the memory of the computer the contents previously used provide a mean to re-use them if needed. In that case, the artwork will no longer be such –according to the artists, the live connection to the Internet defines the artwork- but a “demonstration”. A self-documentation state defined as “demo”, which, according to the authors, represents the closest possible experience to the original artwork.

The internet and social media have been credited with the potential to reinvigorate democracy by offering new avenues of political participation and communication between citi-zens and politicians. The results of empirical studies, however, call for caution, as many politi-cians refrain from fully exploring the interactive potential of new media. This case study focus-es on the web presence of Korean parliamentarians, using basic statistical analyses to explore the use of ICT as a means of political communication. It finds that Korean parliamentarians are less active online, treating ICT mainly as another channel for information distribution. It is thus concluded that ICT is not revolutionizing politics but reinforcing existing patterns of communi-cation that leave a gap between citizens and representatives. This paper was previously submit-ted to CeDem Asia 2016. The literature review and the methodology section have been expand-ed, and additional statistical data as well as further findings on Twitter were added.

The articulation of Islam with the new media, and the Internet in particular,has attracted the interest of many researchers. The Internet’s openness anddemocratic potential may infuse Islamic discourses with a new dynamic or,alternatively, offer a new lease of life to such valued traditions as shura (consultation)and ijtihad (independent thinking). Islam Dot Com belongs to theline of thought that seeks to discover how the Internet has been associatedwith Islam and the extent to which it may be thought to contribute to itsdemocratization by providing a truly public sphere in which interested peoplecan participate. On the other hand, the authors are cognizant of the limitationsof the concept of “public sphere” when applied to Islamic contexts.Part of the book’s remit, therefore, is to examine how the Internet relates to shura, ijtihad, and ijma` (consensus). At the same time, it seeks to relatethese theoretical arguments to an empirical case study consisting of a textualanalysis of three Islamic websites: www.islamonline.net, www.amrkhaled.net, and www.islamway.com. <p><em>Abstract</em></p><p><em>This paper explain how diversity expression of dakwah in new media. Today, media makes many preachers and mad’u use new media facilities, including internet media where content to Islam is packaged in stories of everyday life and given with funny things. this strategy attracts many interested people on both sides of the preacher and the mad'u themselves. Da'wah is the one of the activities aimed at inviting others in kindness, reminiscent of the end of the day, while new media is a tool used to invite others to better paths. In other developments the question arises regarding human imagination about God and the path of understanding spirituality experiencing setbacks or impoverishment in the digital age. Will the path of God's search for this generation of media cause visitors to the place of worship to recede, the preaching of the Scriptures is not heard, and the spirit of the religious community was down. Is the “new media gedia generation” aware or not “deify” “virtual God”. This research uses a case study on the response of preachers and people related to the expression of diversity in using new media, so that how to interpret the message in the social media content Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube which is a unity of the internet world.</em></p><p><em>Keywords: Religion, new media, dan da’wah</em></p><p><br />Abstrak</p><p>Tulisan ini berupaya menjelaskan bagaimana dakwah dengan ekspresi keberagaman pada media baru saat ini. Dewasa ini media membuat banyak pendakwah maupun mad’u memanfaatkan fasilitas media baru, diantaranya media internet dimana konten-konten ke Islaman yang dikemas dengan santai dalam cerita kehidupan sehari-hari serta dibumbuhi hal-hal lucu. Strategi ini banyak menjaring peminat pada kedua sisi baik pendakwah maupun para mad’u itu sendiri. Dakwah adalah salah satu kegiatan yang bertujuan mengajak orang lain dalam kebaikan, mengingatkan terhadap hari akhir, sedangkan media baru adalah alat yang digunakan untuk mengajak orang lain kejalan yang lebih baik. Pada perkembangan lain muncul pertanyaan terkait imajinasi manusia tentang Tuhan dan jalan pemahaman spritualitas mengalami kemunduran atau pemiskinan di era digital. Apakah jalan pencarian Tuhan generasi media ini akan menyebabkan pengunjung tempat ibadah surut, pemberitaan Kitab Suci tidak didengar, dan spirit komunitas keagamaan tatap muka meredup. Apakah “generasi media baru” ini sadar atau tidak mulai : “menuhankan” “Tuhan-tuhan virtual”. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi kasus terhadap respon pendakwah dan umat terkait ekspresi keberagaman didalam menggunakan media baru, sehingga bagaimana memaknai pesan dakwah yang terkandung didalam konten-konten media sosial Instagram, facebook, twitter maupun youtube yang merupakan satu kesatuan dunia internet.</p><p>Kata kunci: Agama, media baru, dan dakwah.</p>

Abstract Internet media have an influence on many tourism-related issues. This article presents the results of research into the role of tourism-themed portals in the trips taken by Polish university students between 2010 and 2012. The research sought to answer the following questions: whether tourism-related internet media have an influence on the students’ behaviour before, during the trip and when they arrive at their destination; how often they are used by the respondents during their trips; and whether Polish students actively participate in internet media by voicing their opinions. As it appears, internet media serve as one of the “travel companions” for young people. They are used when preparing the trip, the vast majority “take them” with them and check them during the trip, while almost half of them check them on vacation, e.g. to share their experience over the internet.

The rising adoption of the Internet in India has contributed to the growth of digital news media organisations. Unlike the traditional advertiser-subsidised business model based on audience commodification, some of these new media firms rely on technology to offer news as a public service under an ad-less business model. Using a case study of Newslaundry, this article critically analyses whether interactive online technologies can help create media organisations untainted by the economic rationalities of capitalism. Following a mixed methodology approach that utilises data from 25 interviews with the Newslaundry team and mainstream journalists as well as a variety of text materials, the study finds that news loses its public good character due to Newslaundry’s efforts to make profits. The analysis suggests that the interactive nature of the Internet does not automatically lead to democratic participation.

Inuit in the Eastern Arctic of Canada reclaimed their homeland on 1 April 1999 when the newest territory in Canada, Nunavut, was created. Inuit are using new media technologies to preserve and promote their language, traditional knowledge, and ways of being. In this chapter, the reader is offered an exploration of the challenges northerners face in the digital era, including affordable, reliable access to the Internet. However, the author shows how the resilience that characterizes Inuit culture extends to their innovative adoption of new media technologies. The author offers insight into one web development project, a partnered initiative with Inuit, which enables Inuit youth to learn from their Elders, and for users around the world to learn from Inuit via an interactive online adventure. The case study of The Nanisiniq Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, or IQ Adventure, provides an interesting example of how harnessing the power of new media can support Indigenous peoples’ decolonization efforts.

78 Fordham Law Review 2799 (2010)The Internet is a semicommons. Private property in servers and network links coexists with a shared communications platform. This distinctive combination both explains the Internet's enormous success and illustrates some of its recurring problems.Building on Henry Smith's theory of the semicommons in the medieval open-field system, this essay explains how the dynamic interplay between private and common uses on the Internet enables it to facilitate worldwide sharing and collaboration without collapsing under the strain of misuse. It shows that key technical features of the Internet, such as its layering of protocols and the Web's division into distinct "sites," respond to the characteristic threats of strategic behavior in a semicommons. An extended case study of the Usenet distributed messaging system shows that not all semicommons on the Internet succeed; the continued success of the Internet depends on our ability to create strong online communities that can manage and defend the infrastructure on which they rely. Private and common both have essential roles to play in that task, a lesson recognized in David Post's and Jonathan Zittrain's recent books on the Internet.

Abstract The growth of the Internet over the past four years provides the failure analyst with a new media for communicating his results. The new digital media offers significant advantages over analog publication of results. Digital production, distribution and storage of failure analysis results reduces copying costs and paper storage, and enhances the ability to search through old analyses. When published digitally, results reach the customer within minutes of finishing the report. Furthermore, images on the computer screen can be of significantly higher quality than images reproduced on paper. The advantages of the digital medium come at a price, however. Research has shown that employees can become less productive when replacing their analog methodologies with digital methodologies. Today's feature-filled software encourages "futzing," one cause of the productivity reduction. In addition, the quality of the images and ability to search the text can be compromised if the software or the analyst does not understand this digital medium. This paper describes a system that offers complete digital production, distribution and storage of failure analysis reports on the Internet. By design, this system reduces the futzing factor, enhances the ability to search the reports, and optimizes images for display on computer monitors. Because photographic images are so important to failure analysis, some digital image optimization theory is reviewed.
